This lecture comprehensively surveys the legal aspects of divorce and separation, beginning with the historical shift from fault-based to predominantly no-fault grounds for dissolving a marriage. It examines the various forms of spousal support, including rehabilitative and permanent alimony, and how property is divided using either community property or equitable distribution principles. The lecture further details the calculation and modification of child support obligations, often guided by state-specific income-sharing models. Finally, it addresses the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act's role in ensuring consistent enforcement of support orders across state lines and the circumstances under which existing support orders can be altered due to significant life changes.Key Concepts and Topics:Grounds for Divorce and Separation: Fault-based divorce (historical and current relevance)No-fault divorce (irretrievably broken, irreconcilable differences)Legal separation (purposes, legal implications, conversion to divorce)The Divorce Process: Filing of petition/complaintTemporary orders (spousal and child support)Uncontested vs. contested divorceSettlement agreements and court reviewMediation and alternative dispute resolutionTrial on contested issuesFinal decree of dissolution/divorceSpousal Support (Alimony):Historical context and modern trendsTypes of alimony: permanent/durational, rehabilitative, transitional/bridge-the-gap, reimbursementFactors considered in awarding spousal support (length of marriage, age, health, standard of living, contributions, financial resources)Role of fault in spousal support awardsModifiability and non-modifiability of spousal supportImpact of prenuptial agreements on spousal supportProperty Division: Community property (definition, equal division, separate property, commingling, transmutation)Equitable distribution (definition, fair division based on factors, marital vs. separate property, contributions, commingling, transmutation)Treatment of specific assets (e.g., pensions, retirement accounts)Dissipation of marital assetsChild Support: Duty of both parents to support childrenCalculation guidelines (income shares model, percentage of obligor's income model)Factors included in calculations (income, number of children, custody arrangements)Adjustments for shared custody or high-income earnersConsideration of special needs, daycare, and health insurance expensesNon-modifiability by parental agreement (child's best interest)Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA): Purpose of ensuring consistent enforcement and modification across statesContinuing, exclusive jurisdiction of the initial issuing stateRegistration and enforcement of orders in other statesRules for modification when parties moveModification of Support Orders: Requirement of a substantial change in circumstances (income, custody, needs)Modifiability of spousal vs. child supportImputation of income for intentionally underemployed parents
Russia is using agents of influence, propaganda, vote buying, and the Orthodox Church to retain influence in Moldova. With a presidential election looming, the people of Moldova must decide whether they want to continue the EU-integration course led by President Maia Sandu, or whether to spurn it and pursue a different path, all while Russia tries to seek and invent new ways to remove agency from what it considers “a potential part of Russia.” You can read Maksim Samorukov's recent paper on Moldova here: https://carnegieendowment.org/research/2024/10/moldova-russia-strategy?lang=en¢er=russia-eurasia Host – Alexander GabuevGuests – Paula Erizanu and Maksim SamorukovProduced by Dmitrii KuznetsovMusic by Liam Gordon
Fr. Eric Nicolai preached this meditation as the introduction to a retreat for priests of various dioceses at the Manoir de Beaujeu, near Montreal. It was preached on February 28, 2024. Mark 1:21-28: Today's Gospel about the authority with which Jesus spoke in the synagogue of Capernaum. It was a place of quiet, to read the Word of God, and to pray. Jesus simply spoke. That is the power of his word. Just like with his word he could create the heavens and the earth. No need for special incantations, or long prayers, or formulas. But Jesus said sharply, ‘Be quiet! Come out of him!' And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him. He tells him to be quiet. There is no way the devil could say or speak anything of value. In a certain way he is telling each one of us to be quite too, we need to stay silent, because he has much to tell us. Disk dissipation, giant planet formation and star-formation-rate fluctuations in the past three-million-year history of Gould's Belt by Mingchao Liu et al. on Tuesday 29 November Although episodic star formation (SF) had been suggested for nearby SF regions, a panoramic view to the latest episodic SF history in the solar neighborhood is still missing. By uniformly constraining the slope $alpha$ of infrared spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of young stellar objects (YSOs) in the 13 largest Gould's Belt (GB) protoclusters surveyed by Spitzer Space Telescope, we have constructed a cluster-averaged histogram of $alpha$ representing YSO evolution lifetime as a function of the $alpha$ value. Complementary to the traditional SED classification scheme (0, I, F, II, III) that is based on different $alpha$ values, a staging scheme (A,B,C,D,E) of SED evolution is advised on the basis of the $alpha$ statistical features that can be better matched to the physical stages of disk dissipation and giant planet formation. This has also allowed us to unravel the fluctuations of star formation rate (SFR) in the past three-million-year (3 Myr) history of these GB protoclusters. Diverse evolutionary patterns such as single peak, double peaks and on-going acceleration of SFR are revealed. The SFR fluctuations are between $20%sim60%$ ($sim40%$ on average) and no dependence on the average SFR or the number of SFR episodes is found. However, spatially close protoclusters tend to share similar SFR fluctuation trends, indicating that the driving force of the fluctuations should be at size scales beyond the typical cluster sizes of several parsec. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.14637v1

Magnetic energy dissipation and gamma-ray emission in energetic pulsars by Hayk Hakobyan et al. on Tuesday 06 September Some of the most energetic pulsars exhibit rotation-modulated gamma-ray emission in the 0.1 to 100 GeV band. The luminosity of this emission is typically 0.1-10% of the pulsar spin-down power (gamma-ray efficiency), implying that a significant fraction of the available electromagnetic energy is dissipated in the magnetosphere and reradiated as high-energy photons. To investigate this phenomenon we model a pulsar magnetosphere using 3D particle-in-cell simulations with strong synchrotron cooling. We particularly focus on the dynamics of the equatorial current sheet where magnetic reconnection and energy dissipation take place. Our simulations demonstrate that a fraction of the spin-down power dissipated in the magnetospheric current sheet is controlled by the rate of magnetic reconnection at microphysical plasma scales and only depends on the pulsar inclination angle. We demonstrate that the maximum energy and the distribution function of accelerated pairs is controlled by the available magnetic energy per particle near the current sheet, the magnetization parameter. The shape and the extent of the plasma distribution is imprinted in the observed synchrotron emission, in particular, in the peak and the cutoff of the observed spectrum. We study how the strength of synchrotron cooling affects the observed variety of spectral shapes. Our conclusions naturally explain why pulsars with higher spin-down power have wider spectral shapes and, as a result, lower gamma-ray efficiency. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2209.02121v1

Bill Handel reflects on the past 6 months for Russia and Ukraine as both are now reshaped. The Mar-a-Lago breach might have damaged our national security. Once plentiful, economic aid has started to fall off at a painful moment. And one big surprise in this faltering economy: laid-off workers are quickly finding new jobs.
Bill Handel takes a look at Russia and Ukraine on the 6-month anniversary of Russia declaring war on the unsuspecting country. Once plentiful, economic aid seems to be dissipating at a very painful moment. And California's water from the Colorado River could be crippled by a big earthquake, and the drought makes fixes all the more vital.
Qu'appelle-t-on liberté ? Dispose-t-on d'un libre arbitre ? Peut-on réellement être libre ? In science, dissipation refers to the dispersion of energy and matter. Have you ever noticed smoke dissipating into the air - it disperses into the air to point where it is not visible anymore. This theory of dissipation also applies to thought. As a thought arises and ceases we can see that when the thought ends, the activity of the memory ends also.In this episode we will be speaking further regarding the topic of Instant Dissipation and how we can develop this ability to find the space and comfort within our minds. It is much easier to operate in the present moment when our mind is empty because only then can we focus on the movement of matter at this moment.

What happens when Eric Wolf borrowed money from a friend or family at some point in the marriage to assist in making a down payment on a house? Is that loan a marital debt that they both properties are responsible for paying back? After determining if it was a loan or a gift, Ryan breaks down the different factors that the court looks at to determine whether or not a borrowed amount is a real debt. Some of the factors are: Is there a written agreement?Has interest been charged?Fixed schedule of repayments?Collateral given?Have payments actually been made? Was there a reasonable prospect of repayment?Did the parties conduct themselves as if it was a loan?Statute of limitationsFor further information on gifts to the marital estate, you can also listen to Episode 84 on Economic Fault and Dissipation of Assets and Episode 90 on Gifts to the Marital Estate.Step by Step Colorado Divorce GuideThe initial thought of trying to file for divorce can be overwhelming and emotionally exhausting. Jerri looked at her opponent's intent as he all at once drove straight for a hard tackle after she'd made a less than polite response to his rude comment. Jerri had a couple of older brothers of her own and both were wrestlers so she'd seen it coming. As the much larger boy dropped his level Jerri carefully timed his tackle and fell her full body weight on his advancing head and mid back. Her graceful DISSIPATION to all his speed and power sent him face first into the grass between them. Thunk! By the time her aggressor had shaken off the stunning blow and he'd spat out the grass lodged in his teeth Jerri was on to the next class no worse for the wear. This is what DISSIPATION looks like in self defense. DISSIPATION happens subtly in conversation as well when someone aggressively states an opinion and the receiver chooses to DISSIPATE through humor, silence or changing the subject. Just like in self defense the response is everything. DISSIPATION lessens the energy and allows it to “go to ground.” No energy is added and in fact any effort to increase response is DISSIPATED to zero. Such an effective way to deal with a headlong attack…So powerful! What will you DISSIPATE today? DISSIPATE! When you get to "Stand before the Son of Man" in heaven, here's my advice: Just fall down. Just bow down. Who can stand before His glory, judgment, wrath, redemptive goodness, sovereignty, etc? You get the picture. Just bow down when that moment comes. In the meantime, the passage today tells us what we should be doing in the meantime. Some are cautionary items. Finally, He tells us to be 'in conversation' with Him. Pray. Have the Holy Spirit be doing His job in your heart.Dissipation was one of the cautionary items. It means to have squandered or scattered something that you should have been stewarding. So, at the end, when there was to have been some sort of a faithful offering at the judgement seat of Christ, there was...wait for it...nothing. Yikes, let's not be that guy or gal. Let us not have scattered and wasted the gifts of common grace, or energy, or resources, or giftedness to the church.Let us be ready enough to when we hear the trumpet sound, to "straighten up, raise your head, for your redemption is drawning near". Let us also be ready when we "stand before" Him, to FALL DOWN. Listen and let's get ready together.
In this discussion we will consider DISSIPATION as a Life Defense PRINCIPLE to be used in lessening the effects of an attack in self-defense, and inevitable, daily attacks in Life using Life Defense. First let's look at a self-defense example. In self-defense when one person attacks with a tackle they are charging at the defender, wrapping their arms around their waist or legs, and driving them to the ground. One of the most effective self-defenses against a tackle is to block the charge by placing forearms on either side of the attackers shoulders, while “sprawling” (driving your legs backward out of arms reach). This DISSIPATES the forward charge using body weight, and gravity. The result is either DISSIPATING their charge, or slamming them to the pavement face first. Either way, attack DISSIPATED. In self-defense the attack is fully committed and meant to take someone down as in an assault. In Life Defense daily attacks may come from co-workers, competitors or nowadays even friends in the form of comments made or actions taken that are meant to “take you out” in one form or another. A common battle ground is social media. Recently a “friend” on Facebook made a political comment to a post I had made on Facebook censoring. I said something like, “If Facebook censors us why are we still here?” His response, and others responses to the question began to escalate and each post in turn was more aggressive. My post, meant as a discussion, was now a full out battle and since I wasn't checking into my posts often, when I came back to it my face flushed, my emotions flared, and I began constructing counter attacks in response. However, my the Life Defense training kicked in and I instead began to DISSIPATE the conversation. I asked questions, made simple concise statements of belief and DISSIPATED the situation. Eventually everyone went back to their corners with no one to fight. The opposite of DISSIPATE is to accelerate, or to intensify a situation. Seldom in self-defense, or life, does acceleration or intensification have a positive outcome. DISSIPATION slows responses, deescalates and makes discussion more available. Consider DISSIPATION, and who knows maybe you'll keep more friends and have more constructive discussions on what you care about most. Dear Manna Family, We are living in a time of extraordinary change and uncertainty. Unfortunately, some people are trying to manage their stress and anxiety by misusing drugs or alcohol. King Solomon warned against this behavior when he wrote in Proverbs 20: 1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise. Intoxication comes from the Latin word intoxicare which originally meant ‘to poison.’ Another definition of intoxication is an overpowering exhilaration in the mind or emotions; for example, “he was intoxicated with the thought of his upcoming promotion.” Today, intoxicated almost always means ‘under the influence' of alcohol or drugs. Intoxication is another word for drunkenness. It means that your mind is being affected by an external substance. People lose self control when they are intoxicated. Excessive alcohol first creates mental confusion and reduces inhibitions. People say and do things that they generally wouldn’t do if they were sober. A large percentage of arguments and fights on Friday and Saturday nights involve alcohol. Solomon warns that intoxication is foolish because it destroys your ability to think clearly and act wisely. The Bible does not condemn alcohol, but it does condemn drunkenness. Ephesians 5: 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Whatever fills you is what controls you, and you are responsible for what you let into your life. If you choose to become intoxicated, you have chosen to put yourself under the control of a mind altering substance and the result is dissipation. Dissipation means depletion or excess. Being drunk does not focus your mind, it distracts, confuses and depletes your life and your resources. It does not add to your life, it takes away from your life. Something that dissipates, ultimately disappears. Habitual intoxication damages and ultimately destroys brain cells. The Bible does command us to be filled; not with wine, but with the Holy Spirit. Dwight Moody was planning to have an evangelistic campaign in England. An elderly pastor protested, “Why do we need this ‘Mr. Moody’? He’s uneducated and inexperienced. Who does he think he is anyway? Does he think he has a monopoly on the Holy Spirit?" A younger, wiser pastor rose and responded, “No, but the Holy Spirit has a monopoly on Mr. Moody.” When the Holy Spirit has a monopoly on you, it means that He owns you exclusively. You are filled 100% with the Holy Spirit. At one point in his career Dwight Moody was speaking to a large audience. He held up an empty glass and asked, “How can I get the air out of this glass?” One man shouted, “Suck it out with a pump!” Moody replied, “That would create a vacuum and shatter the glass.” After numerous other suggestions, Moody smiled, picked up a pitcher of water, and filled the glass. “There”, he said, “all the air is now removed.” He then went on to explain that victory in the Christian life is not accomplished by ‘sucking out a sin here and there,’ but by being filled with the Holy Spirit. When you are directed and controlled by the Holy Spirit, there is no room left in your life for sin. As a matter of fact, all victory over sin requires the Holy Spirit’s supernatural intervention. The good news, The Holy Spirit lives in God’s people and empowers them to overcome sin. Solomon tells us not to be under the influence of alcohol. Paul tells us to be under the influence of God the Holy Spirit. Everyday, each of us chooses who or what will influence and fill us. Choose to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Remember, God designed us to ‘do life together!’ Love and prayers, Brad ••• Subscribe to listen regularly. We explain #dissipation and #contribution with respect to #MaritalAssets in the context of #IllinoisDivorce law. If you spend money in a marital estate on extraneous things, it is described as dissipation. If you offer assets from your personal assets into the martial estate, these may be considered for contribution. We discuss plenty of examples and ways the court determines dissipation and contribution. Satsang with Bob Nickel was a great opportunity to be with someone who points to the pure truth of Awakening in a simple and clear way. One of the recent attendees at Bob's satsang wrote, "I was deeply moved by Bob's blissful presence as well as the clear insight he is able to share with everyone into the deeper truths of life and ourselves. I could feel that Bob speaks from his own personal experience, those same truths shared through the ages by many of the great sages." Bob has been freely sharing in the non-dual Advaita tradition since 2004. He experienced his first spiritual epiphany at the age of nineteen, followed later by other special experiences. In recent years it has become clear to Bob that all experiences, which by nature come and go, have nothing whatsoever to do with the Truth that one essentially Is. His satsangs are dedicated solely to making Ramana Maharshi's invitation to Self-Inquiry available to everyone, as a direct and immediate means to Self Knowledge, inviting all to simply abide effortlessly as That which one is, right here and right now. Cancer has returned to Bob's body. When he left for India in late April, 2011, his doctors said he was cancer-free. That has changed. In early September his physicians gave him about six months. Rather than just rest, Bob's desire is to spend his final days sharing Ramana Maharshi's Invitation to Self Inquiry to all who wish to hear it. Bob's website.
