The authenticity of the final self-portrait by Paul Gauguin, made in 1903 and housed in the Kunstmuseum in Basel, was earlier this year called into question. Now, the museum has completed its promised analysis, and confirmed that the painting is not a fake and is by Gauguin. Ben Luke talks to The Art Newspaper's special correspondent, Martin Bailey, about the saga. In recent years, the late Indian sculptor Mrinalini Mukherjee has come to increasing prominence. Ostern ist der höchste Festtag aller Christinnen und Christen. In der Osternacht führt der Weg aus der Dunkelheit ans Licht und am Ostermorgen begegnen die Jüngerinnen und Jünger Jesu – und mit ihnen auch alle Christgläubigen – zum ersten Mal dem Auferstandenen. Jesus Christus, der für alle Menschen Leid und Tod ertragen und überwunden hat, wendet sich im Garten Maria Magdalena zu und lässt sie die unendliche Freude über das siegreiche Leben verspüren. Wir dürfen mit dieser Freude diesen höchsten Festtag begehen und miteinander feiern. «Wen suchst Du?» fragt Jesus Maria Magdalena im Garten nach seiner Auferstehung am Ostermorgen. In der Predigt geht Pfr. Benedikt Locher dieser Frage nach. Er stellt sie auch den Mitfeierenden des Gottesdienstes und sucht nach Antworten. Die Eucharistiefeier aus der Pfarrkirche St. Franz Xaver in Münchenstein/BL wird musikalisch gestaltet von der Organistin Marjorie Marx und dem Trompeter Huw Morgan. Es erklingen Duette für Orgel und Trompete aus verschiedenen Epochen sowie Gemeindegesänge zu Ostern.

Die Jahre vor 1933 bezeichneten die Nazis, nachdem sie an die Macht gekommen waren, rückblickend gerne als "Kampfzeit“. Diejenigen, die sich in den 1920ern als Aktivisten betätigt haben, werden "alte Kämpfer“ genannt. Denn lange schien der Aufstieg der NSDAP unwahrscheinlich zu sein. Die Partei war nicht mehr als eine Splitterpartei, die mit schrillen Parolen lautstark und krawallbereit auf sich aufmerksam zu machen versuchte. Im Nachhinein betonten führende Funktionäre der Hitler-Partei die Entbehrungen dieser Phase, in der allerdings bereits eine stabile Organisation im Hintergrund vorhanden war. Eines der besten Beispiele für einen Nazi der ersten Stunde, der hinter den Kulissen wirkt, ist Franz Xaver Schwarz. Hitler ernennt ihn 1925 zum Reichsschatzmeister der NSDAP. Schwarz bringt die Parteifinanzen ins Lot und kümmert sich um den Aufbau einer funktionierenden Geschäftsstelle. In dieser Ansprache vom 3. November 1935 blickt Schwarz auf diese Anfänge zurück. Es ist das Richtfest der sogenannten "Parteibauten“ in der Nähe des Münchner Königsplatzes: eine Gelegenheit von hohem Symbolwert für die Nazis.

Als Gründerin der Missionsschwestern vom Heiligsten Herzen Jesu schuf sie Schulen, Krankenhäuser und Waisenhäuser und wurde zur Schutzpatronin der Einwanderung. Unser zweiter Heiliger der Woche, Paul Miki, war als japanischer Jesuit der wohl bekannteste der 26 Märtyrer von Nagasaki. Inspiriert von der Missionsarbeit des heiligen Franz Xaver setzte er sich für die Verbreitung des Christentums ein. Nicht nur in Japan wurde er dadurch zur Legende. In seiner Katechesenreihe über die Leidenschaft der Evangelisierung stellt Papst Franziskus einen weiteren Zeugen der Evangelisation: den spanischen Missionar Franz Xaver. Er ist einer der ersten Gefährten des heiligen Ignatius von Loyola und gilt als Schutzpatron der Weltmission und einer der größten Missionare der Neuzeit.
