Send us a textIn this episode, we chatted with Katie Bogner, teacher and catechist (and blogger from LookToHimAndBeRadiant.com). Covering topics related to her experience teaching in both public and Catholic school as well as working parish catechetical ministry, we discussed school choice, obstacles and challenges she sees her middle schoolers facing, and ways that families can vibrantly live their Catholic faith together, especially through the lens of the liturgical year.We also talked about Katie's brand new book, All about Lent & Holy Week: Sharing the Seasons of Repentance & Salvation with Children.Katie wrote the book alongside illustrator and designer Shari Van Vranken, whom you might know as the talented "Saint Lady" behind CatholicPaperGoods.com. All about Lent is like a handbook for families for the whole Lenten Season. It highlights the many treasures of prayer and tradition of this holy season, making it easy to share truth and beauty (but in perfect bite sized pieces and kid friendly language). Even though we might think of Lent as being a season that is difficult to share with children, it really is a perfect invitation for Catholics of all ages to pray and fast and give together. Life can change in a flash, focus on what gives you meaning! We are all producers of our own story. Jonathan Bogner went from selling Hollywood films to a heart transplant, a man whose resilience and reinvention offer powerful lessons on embracing life's fragility. Jonathan's journey will take us from the bustling floor of his pre-to-post-production office, housing a team of 30, through a heart-wrenching battle with English and intonation after a stroke, to the heights of E television, where he and his son's show idea comes to life, revealing years of reality show success. In a tale that seems scripted for the silver screen, Jonathan shares his life-altering experience of heart failure, the rush to the hospital with pulmonary edema, and the miraculous gift of a heart transplant, complete with its complex emotional and physical aftermath. Dealing with a donor's preexisting condition, significant weight loss, and muscle atrophy, he is supported by his wife, who transitions from a legal career to becoming his full-time caregiver. Amidst these personal trials, Jonathan's perspective on life takes a profound turn. He meditates on the daily impact of living with a new heart and the importance of mentorship and imparting wisdom to future generations. He emphasizes the power of support, the significance of a loving upbringing, and the essential nature of building a global community of kindness, even in a world that's often in turmoil. As Jonathan recounts the heartwarming stories from his Hollywood career, finding emotional fulfillment in family and sports movies, and producing a deeply affecting show about addicts and animals, we hear echoes of the show's theme - love, family, and meaningful living. We'll examine the delicate balance between work and home life, the categorization of friendships, and the ongoing personal evolution one must undertake. Crucial to his story is the maintenance of health through regular exercise, the avoidance of substance abuse, and cherishing each moment of life itself. Jonathan also shares his future aspirations, such as his desire to positively shape his community by eyeing a park commissioner role. So, grab your headphones and prepare to be inspired by Jonathan's wit, wisdom, and undying positivity. It's time to discover how the power of a good family, strong friendships, and a tenacious spirit can redefine the fabric of life. In this inspiring episode, Jonathan Bogner, a successful independent film producer turned entrepreneur and motivational speaker, shares his struggle with life-changing health conditions which ultimately lead him down a road to Reinvention. Even after undergoing a heart transplant, Jonathan has been living proof that optimism and hope along with a well-defined set of objectives are the key elements of his formula to success. According to Jonathan everything starts from the little, thus very fundamental steps like stopping a moment to breathe and focus. Taking a walk and rewarding your body and mind is crucial to finding clarity in everyday life. These little steps are the secret to the road to success, even in the most traumatic situations that he personally had to face and overcome. Being able to curate his life by categorizing his priorities and predetermined set of objectives is what makes him excited about a new rising day each and every morning. Some powerful takeaways from today's episode: Focusing only on the present and future without looking back at the past is a powerful way to fully live and appreciate each and every moment of your life. The road to victory starts from shifting your mind from negative thoughts to optimistic, hopeful and positive ones. The only person that can change anything in your life is You. So, self-motivation and self-management is the key. Stopping for a while to acknowledge and reward yourself for the progress that you have made is another form of self-care. You are in the driver's seat of your own life and have full control to direct it to the best path possible. Knowing your values and being connected with yourself are the first steps of Reinventing your life. In this episode, I am joined by Jonathan Bogner, executive producer of reality TV & movies, and entrepreneur with multiple businesses. In 2007, life was great for Jonathan, living in Beverly Hills with his wife and children, living his dream job producing movies and had just sold a movie at a major film festival. Life was to change drastically in a moment, forever. Jonathan suffered heart failure, two massive strokes and lost the ability to speak. He survived but unable to talk or write, he lost his business and had a defibrillator implanted in his chest just to keep his heart beating. Jonathan rebuilt his life, becoming a producer of reality TV shows until his defibrillator fired twice within seconds, and he was rushed to Cedars Sinai hospital and told he would not be discharged until a heart became available for a transplant. Four weeks later and after enduring a nine-hour operation, Jonathan had his new (used) heart from a female donor, however just when he thought his problems were over, there was much more to come. Join us, and hear Jonathan's story, how it has impacted his mental health and how he has learned to take each day as it comes. He talks about his rehabilitation and how he has adapted his life to his own philosophy around exercise, healthy eating, but most importantly, maintaining his sense of humor.
Join Buffalo Women's Soccer's Ashlyn O'Shea, Jasmine Guerber and Laura Bogner as they take over the Call To MACtion podcast!
Jonathan Bogner is a creative producer, entrepreneur, investor, disruptor, and consummate problem solver in his professional life. However, in 2007, Jonathan's whole life changed completely. In his own words: My “prior” life was great. I had a beautiful wife, two teenage sons, a nice home in Beverly Hills, and--- I was living my dream job--- of producing movies. In 2007, when I came back from selling my movie at a major film festival---My life changed in an instant.--- I had heart failure, two massive strokes and aphasia (the inability to speak). I survived ---but my heart had become a ticking time bomb. On this episode of the Modern Day Overthinker podcast, Jonathan and I discussed not only his health issues, but his perspective on life after going through all that he did. From having 2 strokes, learning to speak again, and having a heart transplant, Jonathan has a hell of a story to tell. So much was shared throughout this episode including not being a victim of your circumstances, living in the moment, getting rid of toxic people from your life, and just having a more optimistic, positive perspective on life. One warning I'd like to issue here that suicide was discussed on this episode, and the opinions shared are opinions, and we all view the world differently. Most of us also know that suicide is a very touchy subject. If you are suicidal and need someone to talk to: Please call or text 988 or a loved one who cares about you. Don't let fear or shame get in the way of asking for help! People care! Special shout out to our sponsor "Hidden Gem" vacation rental in Cape Coral, Florida. LoveShackFancy's tenth year in business has been a busy one. This month alone, the fashion brand has launched a product collaboration with Gap and announced an expansion to the beauty category. Its first fragrance will hit Sephora stores on September 6, six days before its New York Fashion Week presentation-slash-party. It's safe to say that LoveShackFancy's feminine, flirty, vintage-inspired look has caught on. And steering its popularity is founder and creative director Rebecca Hessel Cohen. As she describes on this week's episode of the Glossy Podcast, her growth strategy for the brand includes "taking its iconic prints, colors and sensibility, and bringing it to life in different categories, price points and markets." Before Gap, LoveShackFancy's brand collaborators included Target, American Girl, Bogner and Ford Bronco, among others. And, following fragrance, there's no telling what categories the brand will tackle next. "Our customers want [LoveShackFancy] wine, champagne, and even hotels and restaurants," Hessel Cohen said, referencing a recent social media poll by the brand. "So, you never know. It's just all exciting and fun — and sometimes, the more unexpected, the better."

Matilda Bogner's job is to bear witness to unspeakable crimes. As head of the United Nations Human Rights mission in Ukraine, she and her team record accounts of horrific abuses and rights violations in a bid to bring the perpetrators to justice and ease the victims' suffering. “It's a very complicated job, but it is meeting people and finding out their stories. It's giving voices to victims. That's what motivates me.” Russia's invasion of Ukraine has devastated millions of lives. Civilians have been subjected to summary executions, disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and mass rape. In this episode, Matilda Bogner reflects on the scale of these horrors, the mental health impact of documenting them, and on her urgent quest to raise the alarm with the rest of the world.
A few weeks back, Jeff's editor at Craft Beer & Brewing wrote to explain that the magazine was shifting to its original quarterly format. The reason wasn't declining revenues, but efficiencies—it's less expensive and simpler to put out four issues a year than six. That got us thinking: how do magazines work? How has Craft Beer & Brewing survived when so many other magazines folded? How do the internet, social media, and newer delivery systems like podcasting impact print media--should we be thinking in terms of media companies rather than magazines? In today's show, we have Jamie Bogner, Craft Beer & Brewing's publisher, on to give us the low down about how they do it.
