A diversidade das cores dos seres humanos. A fotógrafa e artista Angélica Dass registrou rostos de milhares de pessoas pelo mundo no projeto que se chama Humanae. Ela já recebeu vários prêmios pelo seu trabalho. Angélica Dass nasceu no Rio de Janeiro e vive em Madri há 15 anos. Ela participa do PhEST, Festival Internacional de Fotografia e Arte em Monopoli, na região da Apúlia no sul da Itália, onde conversou com a RFI Brasil. “O que eu faço no Humanae são fotos de pessoas no fundo branco. Pego um quadradinho no nariz e busco o correspondente numa paleta de cores chamada Pantone. Na verdade, Pantone é como um idioma de cores. Depois de identificar a cor da pele, pinto o fundo” conta. O seu trabalho mostra uma infinidade de tons de pele, e até pessoas da mesma etnia que não têm a mesma cor. Cada imagem mantém a legenda do sistema Pantone, acompanhada pelo número e letra da variação da cor identificada.  “Nestas fotos o que eu estou tentando provar é que eu aprendi quando pequena, que as pessoas são classificadas como negro ou branco. Isso não é real. O que a gente vê no mundo real é uma paleta de cores gigantesca, desde um chocolate, caramelo, canela, iogurte, mas nunca esse preto e branco. Então por que classificamos os seres humanos desta maneira? O objetivo é propor este tipo de reflexão. Mostrar que a diversidade é um grande valor da espécie que é a raça humana. Em vez de discriminar, a gente tem que celebrar esta diversidade” explica. Mosaico gigante Nesta 6° edição do PhEST, o tema é O Corpo. O Festival reúne 30 exposições de fotos e arte contemporânea em vários pontos da cidadezinha litorânea do Mediterrâneo. Angélica Dass tem uma posição de destaque. A sua obra é um mosaico de rostos impresso em uma tela gigante de 26 metros de comprimento por 5 metros de altura que está exposta individualmente na antiga muralha de Cala Porta Vecchia, diante das águas cristalinas do mar Adriático. “Uma das grandes missões deste trabalho não é só estar na parede como uma peça de museu, como uma exposição. O objetivo é ser uma ferramenta educativa. Paralela a esta exposição no PhEST, faço oficinas em todo o planeta conectando com a juventude, com futuras gerações, para que sejam os líderes de amanhã” comenta. Angélica começou a fotografar os rostos em 2012. A ideia surgiu quando fez retratos do marido espanhol e da família dela, que define como “multicolorida”. “Eu me reconheço como alguém que é afrodescendente, eurodescendente e descendente dos povos originais do Brasil. Quando comecei a fotografar a minha família percebi a diversidade que a gente tem no planeta. ” Até agora ela já fotografou 4.556 pessoas, em 20 países e 36 cidades do planeta. Seu trabalho percorreu diversas mostras pelo mundo. Para citar alguns exemplos, o Humanae foi exposto em 2017 no Fórum Econômico Mundial em Davos, na Suíça. No ano seguinte, no Museu Americano de História Natural em Nova York. Contra o racismo Em cada retrato frontal a pessoa aparece com os ombros nus, dando a impressão que está despida. “Talvez as informações mais importantes que você vai encontrar nas fotos é a falta de informação. Você não sabe quem é o pobre, quem é o rico, quem é o imigrante, qual é a orientação sexual. O objetivo é celebrar o que na verdade a gente tem como grande tesouro da nossa espécie, que é nossa diversidade em todos os aspectos”, ressalta   A mensagem da sua obra gera também um forte impacto no combate ao racismo. “Uma das coisas mais importantes para mim, é tentar usar a arte como uma ferramenta. Se o conceito de raça é uma construção social, acredito que a gente possa desconstruir essa construção através da arte, através da fotografia, através da educação.”     O PhEST A ideia de criar o PhEST – See Beyond the Sea (Veja além do mar) foi do documentarista e diretor de fotografia italiano Giovanni Troilo com a curadoria fotográfica de Arianna Rinaldo. O festival começou em 2016, foi crescendo, e não parou nem no ano passado com a pandemia. O respeito às regras sanitárias é rígido. Para ver as exposições em lugares fechados é obrigatório apresentar o certificado de vacinação ou o teste Covid-19 feito até 48 horas antes.    Algumas obras fazem parte de instalações dentro do Palazzo Palmieri, um edifício barroco no centro histórico. Já na antiga igreja desconsagrada de São Pedro e São Paulo encontra-se o trabalho do artista britânico e franco- marroquino, Phillip Toledano. São autorretratos nos quais ele aparece vestido e maquiado como diferentes personagens imaginando como poderia morrer.  Outras imagens estão expostas ao ar livre, como a Beleza dos Albinos da italiana Paola De Grenet, radicada em Barcelona. Ela fotografou em diferentes países pessoas albinas, muitas delas sofrem deficiências visuais.  O PhEst, que dura até 1° de novembro de 2021, não se limitou a terra firme e “invadiu” o mar. As fotos do artista lituano Tadao Cern estão impressas em horizontal sobre colchões flutuantes ligados no fundo do mar. A obra se transforma em uma brincadeira de verão. O público tem que nadar até a instalação para ver as imagens e se diverte subindo e descendo dos colchões.  Já no fundo do mar estão as esculturas do italiano Erich Turoni, acessível só aos mergulhadores.

¿Cómo hacer un proyecto que sea universal?¿Cómo hacer que se explique a si mismo?¿Cómo hacerlo comprensible sin idiomas y para todas las culturas? Muy poca gente en el mundo del arte es capaz de conseguir esta conexión que Angelica Dass logró con su proyecto Humanae. Este proyecto es mayor que la propia Angelica, mayor que todos nosotros, porque es un proyecto centrado en humanizar, en educar y en derribar cualquier barrera basada en las ideas preconcebidas desde hace siglos. Lo más importante no es la imagen en sí, bellísima desde todo punto de vista, si no la capacidad de generar una conversación entre iguales, o mejor dicho entre diferentes, ya que todos lo somos por igual. Durante estos años, humanae ha cambiado las vidas de mucha gente, sobre todo la de Angelica, ya que le ha permitido reconectar con ese yo de 6/7 años que no comprendía porqué era apartada y deshumanizada. Su video de TED lleva 3 millones de visualizaciones, y es una de las elegidas por la organización como líder de opinión para cambiar el futuro, casi nada. La meta es ambiciosa, pero como dice citando a Tupac Shakur "Yo no voy a cambiar el mundo, pero definitivamente voy a despertar la mente que lo va a hacer" Un lujo tener a Angelica Dass con nosotras!

Ready for a beautiful, meaningful episode? Well, Lizzy Grayson, a mom of little ones, practitioner of NFP and fellow podcast listener delivers a beautiful, little episode for you today! A few weeks back Lizzy emailed me asking if I would consider doing an episode on Humanae Vitae. Sure, I said, if you come on as a guest and share about it! You see, I read Humanae Vitaein college...a million years ago, and Lizzy said something so interesting--she said that this Papal Document had profoundly impacted her and her husband. This surprised me because I have heard LOTS of couples talk about how Theology of the Bodyimpacted their relationship, but Humanae Vitae? Well, after listening to Lizzy I bet you will feel the beauty of the document as well. Humanae Vitaecame out in 1968 and was written by Pope Paul the 6th as a response to the widespread use of contraception. Many Catholics argued that the pill should be okay for Catholics to use, but the Pope clearly stated that since contraception make the marital act no longer unitive and procreative, thus changing this sacramental act, it went against church teaching. We can see now just how prophetic Humanae Vitaehas been. In this short encyclical Pope Paul 6th predicts that widespread use of the pill will lead to increased infidelity, it will be forced on women and women will be respected less. The church, however, remains compassionate for Catholic couples. It acknowledges that not being able to use contraception is a cross to bare. It also encourages us to grow in temperance and charity, which we have a greater opportunity to do when we don't use contraception. It really was a wonderful and powerful conversation with Lizzy. The Bishop continues his overview of the Declaration on Religious Freedom ("Dignitatis Humane") from Vatican II. In this podcast, he talks about the declaration being based on the dignity of the human of person - which means everyone is created in the image of God and God is calling everyone into a relationship with Him. Christian faith is a free act of the will. If you believe in Jesus, then that means you have free will, which is the essence of religious freedom. The call to faith is an internal one; there is an obligation, but it shouldn't be imposed on the outside. Jesus expected His listeners to accept His teachings as truth, since it came from God and directed by the Holy Spirit, but Jesus would not coerce people on the outside, like the Jewish or Roman authorities, to force others to believe.

The Bishop continues his overview of the Declaration on Religious Freedom ("Dignitatis Humane") from Vatican II. In this podcast, he talks about the importance of religious liberty and the family. Every family is a "society" with its own basic rights, and parents have the right to choose the schools and means of education they want their children to have. It's important for parents to take seriously their roles as leaders of their children's religious formation, and parents need to safeguard that freedom as a family in the civil arena. The protection of religious freedom or other human rights is not left to individuals, but is the responsibility of everyone, even those who are not believers. The government needs to make sure that there is equality in terms of everyone exercising true religious freedom, with all rights being tempered for the common good. It's important for the civil authorities to maintain objectivity so that all religious groups and systems of belief are given equal treatment.

Religious liberty derives from us being children of God, who are invited to an encounter with God, a search for God. We must be free to engage in that search, both individually and socially. Religious communities are requirements for man, even though we are invited by God, individually. It’s still one God. If we are all moving toward the same person, we are going to have a common experience, and we are going to want to express that and come together. Public order comes into play when that occurs. Any religious group has to abide by basic laws of society. We should be able to worship, to educate and to establish institutions to organize our lives according to our religious principles. We have an obligation to express our faith to engage people in their quest for the truth. This innate freedom is a gift from God.

The whole point of religious freedom comes from God's invitation to each person to discover Him and to move toward Him. The reason why we uphold religious freedom is an impulse toward the Creator. That impulse needs to be protected. Each person has the right to have the impulse unfold. People often search for truth. People need to give their assent to the truth. Religious liberty comes from God, and is driven by a search for God. Conscience comes about as an inquiry to the truth. Conscience isn’t about convenience, while an inquiry into God is entering into a relationship with God. We are called into relationship with God, but humans are social. There is a need in us to share with others. We have a right to be free to search for God and in developing a conscience and in engaging in a common expression in relationship with God.

He said the Council Fathers declared in the document that people have right to religious freedom. People should be free from coercion so that people should not act against his religious convictions or have religious convictions imposed on them. The right of religious liberty is based on the dignity of the person as revealed by God and by reason itself. The bishops say we have religious freedom because God is calling us into a relationship with Him. Religious freedom allows us to enter the core of who we are and why we are, even if people don’t want to exercise that freedom.

The Bishop continues his overview of the Declaration on Religious Freedom ("Dignitatis Humane") from Vatican II. The search for truth - when it includes religious liberty -- has to include free inquiry, teaching, instruction and dialogue. Religious liberty doesn't include the private expression of one's beliefs, but one that involves being able to express one's belief in God, such as acts of charity. Civil authority is there to protect human rights, not to control them. We can't impose anything on the outside on religious liberty since it comes from the internal "magnet" that is within each of us toward God. Religious groups have the right to tell others about their ideas to the rest of society.

The Bishop gives an overview of the Declaration on Religious Liberty, in terms of its place within the Vatican II Council and in how and why Blessed Pope John XXIII found it important to address. In terms of the declaration, man is becoming conscious of dignity of the human person, and in spiritual aspirations, and the bishops address this, but note that everything needs to be set to the context of the Church’s Magisterium and the Truth of the Catholic Church. In other words, not all religions are equal since the Catholic Church has the Truth.
