On this week's episode of The Reporter's Notebook Podcast, we're talking to New Mexico Senator Bill Soules, a Democrat from Las Cruces. We'll be talking about how he has approached this year's 60-day session of the New Mexico Legislature. We'll take a look at many of the big-ticket items lawmakers are discussing as lawmakers set about crafting an historically large budget. We'll talk to Sen. Soules about many of the state's most pressing issues — education, public safety, early childhood development, bail reform, water conservation and energy, just to name a few. Soules, who has served in the Senate since 2013, is a retired educator and currently serves as chair of the Senate Education Committee and is a member of the Senate Conservation Committee. We also talk about Soules' bill to make the smell of “green chile roasting in the fall” the official state aroma — a bill Soules sponsored, with expert testimony from some Las Cruces elementary students. Senate Bill 188 passed the Senate on a 31-4 vote on Saturday, Feb. 25. It now must make it through a couple of committees in the House and a full House vote in order to reach the governor's desk. If passed, New Mexico would become the first state in the nation to have an official state aroma. This week, we're grateful to have Senator Soules joining us.
This episode's guest is not a school leader, but as President of Corwin Publishing, Mike Soules knows a thing or two about staying buoyant in troubled waters. Like leaders everywhere, he was tasked with steadying the company during Covid and its aftermath. He discusses what he learned about leadership during times of crisis, holding true to your values even when external pressures are high and spearheading innovative approaches to common challenges. He also shares an exciting new development that underscores Corwin's commitment to using high quality research to support educators' professional development needs.

As characters go, Montie Soules has had a highly interesting career before taking over the helm of the American Shorthorn Association which this year celebrates its 150 years. Along with Dr Bob, who has written a great book on the subject, we take a look at the success of the modern breed on both sides of the Atlantic before the celebrations are wrapped up at Louisville livestock show shortly. With wise words like ‘ we've done everything in this country to try and ruin the Shorthorn cow, but I'm telling ya, it can't be done!' Montie certainly makes for an entertaining listen.

Emma makes her triumphant return to MR! She is joined by Matthew Soules, associate professor of architecture at the University of British Columbia, to discuss his recent book Icebergs, Zombies, and the Ultra-Thin: Architecture and Capitalism in the Twenty-First Century. First, Emma walks updates us on her week in quarantine, before diving into the GOP's ongoing fight to release the affidavit for the raid on Mar-a-Lago as Dan Crenshaw pleads with Jake Tapper that Donald Trump was actually super nice and cooperative with the DOJ. Then Emma is joined by Matthew Soules as he gets right into what makes the 21st Century brand of capitalism different from that of the 1900s, that difference being neoliberalism's mode of finance capitalism becoming hegemonic in the world of wealth accumulation. Expanding on this, Matthew walks through the social role of architecture and how that changed with neoliberalism's hyper-financialization, going from primarily practical structures of shelter with some cultural and wealth signifiers to becoming largely a unit of investment capital and speculation thus practically a financial asset, not a shelter. Next, Soule and Vigeland take on the role of the financialization of architecture in the 2008 financial crisis, central in the creation of Irish ghost estates, Spanish housing vacancies, and the housing crises in the South West United States. This brings Matthew to the integral and identifiable features of finance capitalism's architecture, first looking at how it creates spaces of crisis, with housing – acting as assets – more tied to the rise and fall of the economy as representations of wealth speculation, and therefore not focused on actually housing people, but rather creating MORE investments for MORE speculation, resulting in spaces across the globe becoming grounds for huge construction projects with simultaneous mass vacancies – and their antithesis of mass-populated slums across urban spaces. After a brief discussion on the more practical effects of this shift in architecture – from the crippling of public spaces to the mass construction of condominiums that actively seek to distance themselves from the locales they look down upon, Matthew and Emma parse through the specifics of how these elites employ housing as a form of speculative wealth storage, with the “great wall of money” (aka elite wealth) building up in the wake of the 1980s, infecting the sector of real estate and physically mutating how it manifests itself over the next four decades, seeing the construction of “iceberg,” ultra-thin, and other standardized but architecturally “unique” (aka utilizing iconography) to create a facade of liquidity, detached from the ground below them, able to change with the economy. To wrap up, Emma and Matthew look at the development of Property Technology (such as Zillow and AirBnB) in bolstering these systems, providing direct evaluations of liquid assets AND a way to ensure passive income from these investments, bolstering the constant housing crises prevalent in today's capitalism. And in the Fun Half: Emma talks with Kory from Indianapolis on fundamentalist Christianity infiltrating the US courts, Matt dives into the conservative exterminationist perspective versus the liberal “cultural genocide” one, Ron Johnson proclaims that he HARDLY had anything to do with 1/6, and Andy Barr complains to Chuck Todd about the “politicization of the finance of oil,” – you know, that one massive profiteering scheme that's driving inflation. Kenny from Berkeley touches on the PMC and academic exploitation, Bolsonairo loses his temper, and Ben Shaprio salivates at the thought of licking billionaire boots. Plus, your calls and IMs! (feat. Joey Dosik)⦁ Eddie 9V, Little Black Flies⦁ Eddie 9V, Reach Into Your Heart⦁ Clay Melton, Say That You Love Me (Live)⦁ Bette Smith, I'm a Sinner⦁ Shemekia Copeland, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Hit 'Em Back⦁ The Black Keys, Coal Black Mattie⦁ Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, 662⦁ Donna Herula, I Got No Way Home⦁ Bob Corritore & Friends, Whatcha Gonna Do (feat. “Architecture is not the result of finance capitalism but rather is finance capitalism” / “Just as architecture has helped produce finance capitalism, finance capitalism has helped produce architecture.” Those two passages appear early in Matthew Soules's new book, titled Icebergs, Zombies, and the Ultra Thin, which serves as an indictment of how finance capitalism changes not only architectural forms, but the very nature of our cities and societies. The impetus for this book arose from the 2008 global financial crisis, which revealed, among other things, the damage done by unchecked housing speculation. Yet in the ensuing years, says Soules, the use of architecture as an investment tool has only accelerated heightening inequality and contributed to worldwide financial instability. We rarely consider architecture to be an important factor in contemporary economic and political debates, yet Soules – an associate professor of architecture at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver – demonstrates how unoccupied ultra-thin pencil towers rising in our cities, or cavernous "iceberg" homes burrowing many stories below street level, function as wealth storage for the superrich, while communities around the globe are blighted by zombie and ghost urbanism, marked by unoccupied neighborhoods and abandoned housing developments, issues on which the discipline of architecture is largely mute.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Cincinnati intercepted a large shipment of cereal that was headed to a private residence in Hong Kong from South America. The shipment had forty-four pounds of cocaine-coated corn flakes, the agency said, noting that its street value could be upwards of $2.82 million dollars. Coolidge, Arizona, police arrested 19-year-old Brandon Soules, who claimed he had been kidnapped by two masked men. He says the men knocked him unconscious and drove him around in a vehicle before leaving him by a water tower. Police were able to determine that Soules staged his own kidnapping in order to get out of work at The Tire Factory that day. (He was fired.) See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On today’s episode of Hard Factor… - [4:50] Will gets us started with a jet setting tour across the United States with all the political and big news updates from the weekend with stops in California, New York, Texas, and Florida amongst others. He then puts on the outback hat and sneaks in a down unda story from Australia where the entire country has been Zucked on Facebook. - [14:29] With the domestic updates covered earlier Mark takes us on a Euro-Trip where a French mayor is getting rid of meat in schools and a German political party is trying to get rid of beating meat by banning masturbation amongst the male youth because “its making them less masculine.” - [19:38] Wes has one last stop in the Euro Trip where in Edinburgh UK two strangers James McKenzie and Bethany Ryan got into an argument. McKenzie threatened Ryan who turns out is a YOB who ended up biting his tongue off. McKenzie then spit out the dangling tongue only to see a seagull swoop in and swallow it. - [25:29] 19-year-old Brandon Soules was found in Coolidge, AZ near a water tower with his hands bound behind his back and a bandana stuffed in his mouth. Soules told police he was kidnapped by two masked men. A quick review of security footage revealed the real culprit who then explained why he did it and it’s something else. -[30:20] Two former NYC educators in the Bronx are suing the school district and New York City Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza for claiming they were discriminated against and forced out of their careers for not partaking in a Wakanda Forever salute with their colleagues. - [39:40] The Clever Cartel segment is born and it involves ingenious ways that drug smugglers are using to get drugs into the US. First up, a little green worm stuffed animal purchased from the El Mirage thrift store for a little girl in phoenix, was not stuffed with cotton, but rather with something that resembled oxycontin, good old Fentanyl, 5,000 pills. In Cincinnati the US Customs and Border Patrol seized 44 lbs of cocaine that was smuggled into the US through corn flakes frosted with cocaine instead of sugar. The criminals probably would have gotten away with it, if they had used a Frosted Flakes box instead of the unfrosted Corn Flakes. These stories and more.. Brought to you by Manscaped.com. Today, educational leaders and schools are barraged with suggestions and directives to do “this” and “that” to improve student performance and outcomes. But the problem is that we don’t really have agreement on what we mean by “performance” and “outcomes.” This special series seeks to turn up the volume on that much needed discussion. Someone who is uniquely qualified to give us a broad perspective on this topic is Mike Soules, President of Corwin.

Contractor Success Map with Randal DeHart | Contractor Bookkeeping And Accounting Services
This Podcast Is Episode Number 0335, And It Will Be About The Scientific Remodeling System Today's Guest Article Is From David Hawke and Randall Soules A real remodeling system designed to generate more wealth with less work. I know it sounds like a cliché, and possibly even far fetched, but in this podcast episode, you’ll hear how this system came to exist and what gives its users the path to more wealth with less work. That said, success is not a guarantee. It does take work, but if you have the desire, the Scientific Remodeling System will give you the systems and processes needed to not only thrive as a remodeler but also have the money and freedom to enjoy a personal life with friends and family. Remodeling contractors are a rare breed. Typically they are tradespeople who make the jump into a business owner. They are very tied to the outcome of each project and love the feeling of giving life to the space they’re working with. It’s as much an art as it is business. And that is why it’s difficult to implement systems. The passion put into each project takes up most of the time available, and any time left over must be allocated to employee issues and the multitude of other tasks required to stay legal and operational. While most will agree, systems and processes would definitely help alleviate the daily issues remodelers face, from employees, subcontractors, and even clients. However, taking the time to create the processes needed would take away the remaining few hours left for family, friends, and sleep. It’s a difficult choice. Enter the Scientific Remodeling System, built and refined over a 34-year remodeling career selling to high-income clients. Randall Soules (creator of the Scientific Remodeling System), decided early on he wanted the freedom to spend quality time with his wife and children, and he wanted to be financially free enough to do things like taking a three-week vacation in Hawaii. His business ran the spectrum of remodeling, from commercial projects with employees and crew to building custom homes and eventually into a 100% subcontract labor force, specializing in high-end home design-build remodeling projects. Now, he’s handing his years of experience and all of his systems to remodelers who want more. From: Selling by establishing yourself as the contractor the client wants to work with Seamlessly handing off the job to production Production efficiencies The cashflow payment system The profitable warranty system Contractor marketing And much more… If you have an interest in running a more profitable remodeling business, and to have more time to enjoy your private life, Randall Soules is offering a free demo of the entire Scientific Remodeling System. (Or you can also copy and paste this on your web browser: https://scientificremodelingsystem.com/schedule-a-30-minute-demo/) We look forward to helping you advance your business and improve your life! About The Authors: David Hawke is leading service-based companies through the digital selling process. He's a Building Brand Authority, Author, Speaker and can be found on LinkedIn. Randall Soules is one of 6 children of missionary parents to Brazil. He had no experience with carpentry until the age of 23, after three years of trying his hand at Mechanical Engineering at the University of Virginia. He has always enjoyed working with his hands, and M.E. didn’t cut for him. He started as a laborer and worked his way through the carpentry apprenticeship program, winning the City and State Apprenticeship Contest, and going on the National Contest in Las Vegas. He started his own company, Soules Construction in 1978, doing anything he could to feed his wife and two boys. He quickly made a name for himself in the city of Chattanooga. In 1985 he merged with another company and started Ardis and Soules, Inc. It was in this company, running at times five crews, that he created simple, effective systems to navigate the complex field of remodeling. His company moved into high-end design-build remodeling, becoming the go-to company in the city. He retired at the age of 60 and now spends his time podcasting, writing, and creating content for his membership site, the Scientific Remodeling System.

This episode is all about the candy and pretty much no brain. Look, we never said we'd have balance. Today we're talking about Jesse Williams' break-up and rumored relationship with Minka Kelly. We also discuss Serena Williams' pregnant win and the racist backlash she's receiving. We cover The Bachelor's Chris Soules and his recent hit-and-run, and how it might stem from his time on reality TV. Plus, Sarah talks about the time she met Caitlyn Jenner. Finally, we lament the untimely passing of Erin Moran, and the stupid ass comments from Scott Baio. It's a juicy, gossip-filled Candy session.
Police found empty alcohol containers in Chris Soules’s truck after the “Bachelor” star rear-ended a tractor, killing a farmer, last week. Defense lawyers argue a fleeing the scene of an accident charge should be dropped because Soules called 911, gave his name and admitted hitting the tractor and then tried to the dying man medical help before driving home. But since he refused to answer his door when deputies knocked, his blood-alcohol level was never tested. Nancy Grace debates the case with defense lawyer Brian Claypool in this episode.
