I'm Speaking...with Elizabeth West

Hello…thanks for listening! What is an Empath? As I'm doing more research on this question, I'm noticing that one of the few differences between a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and an Empath is that Empath's can absorb others' energy. So, if you think of being at your house chillin' and then getting a phone call from a friend that is 'griping' about their day...we would all of a sudden feel very stressed like 'we' were feeling this same emotion even though we are not (it's only because a person is telling us about how 'they' feel!) We (empaths) are so much like sponges since we absorb everyone else's emotions and energy. Other than this fact, there are many similarities between HSP's and Empath's. This is why Introverts and in addition HSP's and Empath's need to recharge as much as possible and to 'protect' and conserve our energy! Dr. Orloff has been called the “godmother of the empath movement.” Copy and pasted from Dr. Judith Orloff's website from this link --> drjudithorloff.com/quizzes/are-you-an-empath-20-question-self-assessment-test/ "Are you an empath?  Have you ever been told that you're “too sensitive” or need to toughen up?  Do you feel exhausted and anxious after being in crowds or around certain people?  Do you have a sensitivity to light, sound, and smells?  Or perhaps it takes you longer to wind down after a long day at work?  If you answered, “yes” to these questions you may be an empath." Enjoy! Elizabeth ----------------- This will be the 'Summer of Self-Awareness' / SoSA for my podcast listeners (those who are interested in this that is!), and I'll be ending the Summer with a series of interviews and an Audio (Podcast) Summit in the Fall (with several speakers and experts) titled "Work How YOU Are". Because we're all individuals and what works best for one of us doesn't mean that it will work best for all of us. Can I get an Amen? I got the idea for this Audio (Podcast) Summit after purchasing many, many courses and digital products just to find out in the end and many several dollars later that the most of these programs did *not work for me. ....Because I am an introvert, and a highly sensitive person and an empath, a Manifesting-Generator in Human Design and most recently, that I have an ADHD brain (!) One speaker will talk about 'Shiny Object' and why it's not a "bad" thing, One speaker will talk about Human Design, And another on Myers-Briggs, and many more! Join my email list! https://www.westelizabeth.com/vip-list-signup Show Notes and Mentions: Dr. Judith Orloff's book: The Empath's Survival Guide https://www.introvertdear.com (podcast too w/the same name -- so good!!!) https://www.psychcentral.com/blog/life-goals/2020/01/empath-highly-sensitive#Empaths-and-HSPs:-Differences Are you a Highly Sensitive Person (self-test) per Dr. Elaine Aron's website. She coined the term highly sensitive person back in the 90's! https://www.hsperson.com Why any of this matters? It makes a difference in how we recharge, in how much we need to recharge and for our general well-being and overall Mental Health. And if you're an HSP in addition (test above) -- you'll need to recharge even more. Sex is one of the ways we stay attracted to each other in a marriage. Dr. Corey Allan found in a study that the higher your level of religious dogma, the less sexually satisfied you are because of the shame and guilt associated with it. This early discovery led him to be a voice that helps couples discuss and frame conversations around sex and marriage. He believes if you can't talk about what you want to do or about sex with the person you wish to have it with, you're not ready to have it yet.Dr. Allan joins Kimberly Beam Holmes to discuss how you can walk beside your child, helping them create their own informed decision about sex based on your family's morality. They talk about the effects of porn on a relationship, the introduction of sex robots, and how social media and tech have led to a digitized life to protect oneself from rejection in this week's episode of It Starts With Attraction.PIES Takeaways:Ask yourself "Would I want to have sex with me?"Great sex is about being your full self and staying yourself throughout.Communication is key!Mentions:Dr. Allan's site - https://smrnation.com/Naked Marriage book - https://amzn.to/3G9mpVmSubscribe to the Sexy Marriage Radio podcast: https://smrnation.com/subscribe/

Making the choice to go to couples counseling can feel like a very big step. It involves admitting things are not perfect in your relationship which often brings up feelings of failure, blame, and shame. For those who are unfamiliar with the therapeutic process, questions and concerns about couples counseling can limit a couple from seeking assistance. Some may wonder how talking to a complete stranger will help them or if talking about problems in your relationship will only make things worse. While these are common concerns, statistics from the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy report a much more positive story; 97% of couples reported getting the help they needed after attending couples counseling. To help you unpack the uncertainty of couples counseling, I have brought in seasoned marriage and family therapist Dr. Kimberly VanBuren. Key Takeaways•Couples need to let go of the need to be “right” and become more focused on having the right outcome. •Relationship dysfunction bleeds into other areas of your life (work, kids, friends). Start the process by talking to your partner about wanting things to be better. •Statics show that 97% couples who go to counseling feel that the process helped their relationship.Mentions: Dr. Kimberly VanBuren https://balancingactlms.com/about/Drop The BS Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/dropthebspodcast/Psychology Today: https://www.psychologytoday.com/usEAP www.neelyeap.com

Talk therapy and medications are wonderful ways to treat mental health issues. However, there are many other therapeutic avenues that could be beneficial but are often not explored. One such therapeutic approach is the use of Acupuncture. Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a component of traditional Chinese medicine in which thin needles are inserted into the body. Many people swear by Acupuncture's ability to heal physical and emotional trauma. To help us unpack this subject I've brought in trauma-informed licensed acupuncturist Dr. Winnie Wang. Dr. Wang believes that trauma is the root cause of many physical and emotional illnesses, she focuses on releasing trapped emotions in organs and meridians (energy pathways). About Our GuestWinnie Chan Wang is a trauma-informed licensed acupuncturist, Reiki practitioner, shadow worker, and shamanic Tao healer. She is also a professor in Acupuncture at Alhambra Medical University. In her private practice, Winnie honors her clients as divine self-healers, navigating their healing journeys as co-pilots. Winnie combines the medical science of a clinically trained acupuncturist with the spiritual knowledge of a shaman to help her clients process their trauma by channeling source healing energy and guided breathwork. Key TakeawaysYour body keeps the score of mental health "injuries". To deal with your mental health, you have to deal with your physical health.Take the time to listen to your body. Your physical pain could be alerting you to deeper emotional wounds. Physical health problems such as headaches, fatigue, and stomach pain may be indicators of an underlying emotional health problem.Mentions: Dr. Winnie Wang https://mindfulhealingheart.com/Drop The BS Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/dropthebspodcast/Psychology Today: https://www.psychologytoday.com/usNeely Counseling Center: www.neelycounseling.com

It was a real pleasure to do the interview with an awesome guest today on this episode of dHarmic Evolution. We have this gentleman who is a soldier, a troubadour, a singer and a songwriter. He is many things! But most importantly, he is a man who walks with God. Strap up your seatbelts, we're going to hang out today with Scott Edward Jones from Erie, Pennsylvania!   Scott graduated from Pine Crest Bible College in 1991, and has served in many capacities at Erie First assembly of God since 1996. Scott's ministry was born to a faith walk in the Lord Jesus Christ through hardship and happy times. His songs are well crafted, catchy and easy to sing along with. God has been preparing him for this season of ministry since he sang his first “song unto the Lord,” back in 1969. All his songs are rooted in the scripture and are doctrinally sound in the evangelical traditions.    There is a lot of wisdom engrained in Scott. We had a very spirited and valuable conversation and I hope we will take to heart all the lessons and the suggestions that he has been so profound in sharing with us today. Get to know more about this man, hear his songs, his stories, his adventures, all the things that he has been through in his life and be inspired by this amazing man of God, Scott Edward Jones!   More about Scott Edward Jones Visit Scott's website, named “Funky Sunday Party” and don't forget to check him out on his social media pages and music platforms and support his works. See all the available links below! Quotes: 11:26 “Things didn't get better, but I was in the right place with the Lord, and that's where I needed to be. Sometimes you have to be torn down to be built back up properly, that's what he did for me on that deployment.” 20:57 “There's other people out there that have felt unworthy of love. They don't feel that they're good enough, or they've made too many mistakes, or they've just got their own records of their past. I'm here to tell them, you're worthy of love too.” 21:39 “There's an interesting quote, brother James, that said, “God told me to forgive my enemies. So I forgave myself.”” 27:35 “Honestly, my ultimate goal is, I'm singing my songs to an audience of one. My songs are really just, you're getting a little peek into my prayer life. I'm sharing intimate thoughts with my Savior, with God. They're songs of praise, most of them, all of them really, some more than others. But it's an audience of one. Really, my overall goal is that when I stand before God, on my judgement day, he says “Well done, good and faithful servant.” and turn for your rest and turn to the kingdom. So that's where I'm at.”   42:52 “ So to me, it's if I'm speaking the truth, if that makes you not like me, that's the price I have to pay.”   46:22 “We only know in part, we only see in part. If you'll watch that video, I'm carrying a crown. That's my purpose. So I know my purpose, I know why I'm here now. I know my lane, and I'm walking in the confidence of that.”   48:18 “If you feel that God's called you to do something, do more than make a decision, take an action.”   Timestamps:   01:34 Introducing Scott Edward Jones 03:24 Scott tells how he first got acclimated and got into the service. 07:58 How was  Scott's experience when he first got to Afghanistan? 09:40 Scott shared how he met God in his deployment and how it changed his life. 11:41 How his encounter with God gave him a sense of inner calm to deal with his circumstance better 14:10 The reason why there were issues with his unit and how he stood up for justice. 16:34 Listen to “Worthy of Love” by Scott Edward Jones. 19:25 The story behind “Worthy of Love” 22:32 What is a good safe place for Scott to do his dialect therapy and share what's going on?   25:35 The approach in music and the process of creating songs for Scott Edward Jones. 29:29 Does Scott pile his work and come back to it, or just makes it all done until he finishes it? 31:27 Listen to “Signs of Apocalypse” by Scott Edward Jones. 35:38 Scott shares his thoughts watching all the “Signs of Apocalypse” unfold on a day to day basis? 40:17 As a Christian, who's a writer, singer-songwriter, when Scott looks out and sees all the craziness going on, does it affect him? 47:07 Scott's words of wisdom, prayer, and blessing to the audience. 51:28 Listen to “Ride On” by James Kevin O'Connor   Spotify Playlist:   Hey, have you checked out the Spotify playlist yet? She describes regenerative health as the process of renewal and restoration, which is something many of our bodies long for because of how much stress we're exposed to in today's society in the form of malnutrition, lack of connection to nature, sedentary lifestyles, and increased toxin exposure. After enduring a car accident at age 19, Rita was told she'd never resume normal functions again...but by regenerating every aspect of her health, she was able to fully recover and live optimally, reminding us that it's never too late to heal. In this episode, she describes each of the 6 pillars of regenerative health: alkalinity, cellular ATP, organs of elimination, soil health, gut health, and the endocrine system.
