Tananarive and Steve were devastated by the death of Candyman star Tony Todd in November of 2024. (He also co-starred in their "Fugue State" story in the Shudder/AMC+ anthology film Horror Noire.) His death inspired them to unearth an interview they did with Todd as a part of their online digital download course The Sunken Place, a history of Black Horror. In this rare interview, Todd talks about his tough childhood, the aunt who raised him, his theater roots...and becoming Candyman. Don't miss it! SERIES 3 EPISODE 50: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: It is now Day Three of Trump's Fugue State Crisis – from Monday night at Oaks, Pennsylvania when Trump abruptly STOPPED the town hall inexplicably and began to slur and behave bizarrely, through his announcement that Kamala Harris is physically disqualified from being president because she has hay fever through his cancelling of a softball interview on CNBC the same day she was to be interviewed on Fox, to the question from the Economic Club of Chicago about whether or not google should be broken up which he answered by talking about voting in Virginia. A survivor of and expert on cults, Matthew Remski, has a different idea. What happened in Pennsylvania "echoes MANY instances of cultic leaders who, exhausted, ill, and at the end of their cognitive rope, outsource their emotional dominance subroutines to canned music they personally find exquisitely sentimental... The leader of the group I was in for 3 years maintained a Trump-campaign-like schedule of daily 2-hour sermons. Over the years he increasingly relied on his DJ to fill the room with emotional overwhelm whenever he gapped out. He was 78 too. He air-conducted the tunes. He had a shrinking repertoire of melted talking points. But because there was never any substance to his schtick, he didn't struggle to remember details that were slipping away. He just turned to the music." B-Block (21:45) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Though The Washington Post noted this alarming change in Trump with real words and realer headlines, some of the key people along the tattered broken remains of some of the key guard-rails, are still sane-washing it. The New York Times: “Trump Bobs His Head To Music for 30 Minutes in Odd Town Hall Detour. After multiple interruptions, Trump cut off questions and seemed to decide that it would be more enjoyable for all concerned – and it appeared, for himself – if he fired up his campaign playlist.” Joseph Kahn, executive editor of the New York Times, has been interviewed at length by Steve Inskeep of National Public Radio. The result is almost as disturbing as Trump playing the hits from that radio station that broadcasts only in his own mind. I'm going to read a lot of it, verbatim, because Joe Kahn is almost as detached from reality as Donald Trump. C-Block (43:45) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Russell Brand will sell you a $240 amulet to protect you from negative forces. Like Russell Brand? The report of a state poll that's 51-50 Trump ("do the math"). And just when you thought it was quieting down, the Olivia Nuzzi/Ryan Lizza/Robert F. Kennedy Jr scandal roars back to life as Lizza answers my ex's lawsuit against him by claiming she told him RFK wanted to "possess and impregnate her." Via FaceTime? That'd be some accomplishment! I'll have the details, if I can stop laughing long enoughSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I get this. It's not deliberate, but it's not deliberate either. There are probably ways to create a more accessible web presence, and to bring the various things I've worked on or been associated with into some kind of useful order. But that seems like quite a lot of work and I'm not wildly into doing lots of extra work. I really enjoy being a bit hidden and just getting on with my work. (For reference see Themis House in the upcoming “Who Is Aldrich Kemp?”, coming to your radios on February 18th, 2022.) That people have to do a bit of digging to find me suits me just fine. It's like a hazing process; the people who get through seem to be more interesting. So now you are here, this is what you might want to know: I am a London-based writer and director working in film, TV, and audio. In the past, I have worked, either as a writer or director or both, on Spooks (MI-5 if you're in the US), Hustle, Hotel Babylon, New Tricks, and Doctor Who. My TV work in the UK pretty much stopped dead in about 2016. This wasn't by design, but I wrote a TV pilot script that got a lot of attention in America and that has been where the majority of my work has been coming from since then. That work has been mostly writing and, because nothing has yet been produced (watch this space), the credits do not yet show up on my IMDb page and I am legally not allowed to talk about any of them. My official “work” website is at juliansimpson.uk. Many people have said they find this unhelpful. Those people might be missing the point. In or around 2019 I co-founded a storytelling/world-building company called Storypunk. That does not yet have a website but it will, soon, and in the meantime, we have made a sci-fi podcast series called TEMPORAL which is out to distributors as I type this (Feb 2022). I have also made a number of audio dramas, including the “Lovecraft Investigations” podcast series, details of most of which are on the Radio and Podcasts page and can be investigated in-depth on the Pleasant Green Universe wiki on TV Tropes and on my Wikipedia page. There isn't a veil of secrecy around what I do, but there is a veil of laziness draped over the promotion of it. If you want to find me, I'm on Twitter (@CartoonGravity), on Instagram (somewhat reluctantly) as @cartoon_gravity, and on e-mail at cartoongravity@hey.com. I also have a portfolio of photographs on Format. I'm repped in the UK by Sean Gascoine at United Agents, and in the US by Jeff Barry at Range Media Partners and Andrew Murphy at Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment. I live in London with my wife and daughter and two quite annoying cats. This site is a kind of public scrapbook of thoughts, ideas, and random nonsense. Now you know as much about me as I do. Hello Seattle Mariners fans! Last night was surreal. After two weeks of slowly heating up, finally, at long last, Jarred and Julio went back to back driving in big runs for a signature Mariners win. Yes it's just one game, and yes it's just one night, but it was the first night we got to see the kids come together and put the team on their shoulders. It feels like we've been waiting to see what we saw last night since the rebuild began, and it is cathartic, healing even, to bask in the glow of Jarrulio. Anyways…John, Kate and I enter the podcast fugue state to dig into some of the hot starts on the team, namely Matt Brash, JP Crawford and even perhaps one Chris Flexen. We answer Twitter questions about who are the bigger surprises so far and what to make of the 3 man catcher rotation. We talk George Kirby, who he might replace (or not?) and what a potential timeline could be for his arrival to the show. We eat Eugenio Suarez flavored crow and admit, albeit happily, that it does appear the shoulder is healthy and he can still rake. I despair to myself and the pod about Kyle Lewis, who is still very far away, and I encourage the fans to find greener pastures to rest their hopes in for now. Lastly, we assess Kate's deeply controversial definition of a “sandwich”, and the pod barrels into chaos head first. Kate tries to argue that a pot pie is too goopy to qualify as a sandwich but John offers to freehand one to demonstrate its ergonomic viability, make of this what you will. Note: during the Kirby discussion around 20 minutes there is a skip. I edited it down but you will notice the hard shift where Craig dropped the ball. Learn more about your ad choices. Every year I do #31daysofhalloween which usually involves a write-up here on Facebook and on my Letterboxd. But since I make videos every day, I figured why not try and do (brief?) video reviews. Don't know how long it will last. Can I break my record of 61 films from last year? Probably not. As long as it's fun, that's all that matters. Horror Noire Anthology (2021) Shudder Presents together six horror stories called Horror Noire from Black directors and screenwriters in a single film: "Daddy," "Bride Before You," "Brand of Evil," "The Lake," "Sundown" and "Fugue State". See all the Healthcast at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog/ This week our focus in on something other than hormone replacement specifically. This topic is often more related to Counseling and Psychology. But it is real, and it does sometimes show itself in Dr. Maupin's office. It is called a Fugue State. Fugue State is a diagnosis under Dissociative Disorders in the DSM V. These are the diagnostic and statistical manuals of the American Psychiatric Society. These books (there are five revisions), describe the criterion for diagnosing mental and emotional disorders. If you experience traumatic events or excessively stressful events, especially early in childhood, you use a defense mechanism called repression. This does not mean that you forget these events or experiences, it means that you block them from your consciousness in order to appear normal and to function without calling attention to yourself in ways that could jeopardize you. Sometimes when the stress levels are more than your system can handle, you will “lose” some of your awareness. You may forget your name and where you live, and you may forget some event or period of your life. If you leave home and get in your car and drive somewhere and during the drive have a wreck, and wake up in the hospital and do not know who you are or what you were doing and do not remember the drive at all, you suffer from what we call Amnesia. This amnesia can be limited in duration and will go away and you will recover your memory of the event. If the amnesia is caused by severe brain trauma you may not get the memory back. The type of amnesia that may happen and from which you may recover is the type caused by stress and emotional trauma. There are levels of amnesia and dissociation that are recoverable if your stress levels diminish. All of us repress things because of our focus of attention. If you break up with a girlfriend and then automatically and unconsciously dial her number on the phone, that is called repression. However, if you have had severe levels of trauma you are not repressing you are dissociating from reality. This dissociative process can sometimes be beneficial such as when you are doing surgery as a physician, you cannot become preoccupied with your own life problems and concerns. You may hyper-focus in order to do your job. That is a good thing. Sometimes though the dissociation is so complete that you do not know where you are or who you are and do not remember the flow of your life. If you suffer from this type of amnesia, you may also experience a desire or need to travel and move. This desire is called a fugue state. The compulsion requires you to drive a car or catch a train or plane and go somewhere. You may not know where you need to go you are just going. The most extreme form of dissociation is called dissociative identity disorder it used to be called Multiple Personality Disorder. Your core identity would fragment into separate and distinct identities, each of which would have its own name and memories. Each of these disorders can be treated, often with great success. All behaviors are in service of the self. If your self needs to dissociate in order to handle the stress or trauma of your life it will. When you are less stressed, and your life is safer it will often restore your memories and you will be able to function with complete awareness and full memories. The reason we are talking about these disorders this week is that sometimes a physician will encounter a person with these symptoms and cannot find a physical reason for the symptoms. They must then consider the possibility that the person is suffering from a psychological or psychiatric disorder and make an appropriate referral to a counselor, psychologist or Psychiatrist.

Quais os pensamentos que passaram pela sua cabeça? Os medos? As angústias? As esperanças? The Bronx Zoo unveiled a controversial exhibit in 1906 -- a Congolese man in a cage in the primate house. The display attracted jeering crowds to the park, but for the man himself it was only the latest in a string of indignities. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll review the sad tale of Ota Benga and his life in early 20th-century America. We'll also delve into fugue states and puzzle over a second interstate speeder. Intro: Finnegans Wake contains nine thunderclaps of precisely the same length. In 1928 a British steamer seemed to receive an SOS from a perfectly sound ship. Sources for our feature on Ota Benga: Pamela Newkirk, Spectacle: The Astonishing Life of Ota Benga, 2015. Yesterday's release came together a bit haphazardly, and today's is a bit similar, so I'm breaking my own rules: More than 45 seconds. This is partially because I ran out of time, and partially because I enjoyed this whole impromptu jam, and couldn't figure out where to cut it. The sound generator is called Fugue State. It's an installation piece at Ableton Loop.
Noel's ex suddenly appearing back into his life throws a wrench into his budding relationship with Felicity. Team Noel, eat your heart out.
Ellen and Yvette speak with Imi Groome, who has suffered from Fugue State, a rare and horrible mental health issue. Join the three girls at Bills in West London as they talk relationships, silly moments and googling your own illness.

Brendan Fraser stars alongside Angela Bassett in this small town political drama. An unknown catalyst induces cycles of fugue states which allow one candidate to unwittingly run for mayor against himself.
In which the Science of Sleep and a Scanner Darkly are considered and we crown our favorite psychological thriller of the year. Intro: Ghasper - I Loved You Outro: FKA Twigs - Two Weeks
Anger, greed, lust, intoxication, heartbreak, confusion and the end of the world. Fugue State
Alone Again Or - Love The opening track (and one of only two not written by Arthur Lee) from Love’s opus, “Forever Changes.” The mariachi horns put it over the top. The Fife Piper – The Dynatones A little soul flute courtesy of the Hanna-Barbera record label. Yes, the Flintstones’ Hanna-Barbera. Boys Are Fine – Smith Westerns From Chicago’s own - girls know what boys want and clearly, boys will be boys. Like A Ship – Pastor T.L. Barrett and the Youth For Christ Choir From 1971 - A holy grail of gospel soul from the Southside of Chicago. Son De La Loma – Trio Matamoros A letter put to song from son to mother. The fact that this recording is over sixty years old only makes it more haunting. The Trip - Donovan This hippy, dippy, trippy Donovan tune could be interpreted different ways - drugs or a nightclub in LA called The Trip, depending on how your mind works. Change Of The Guard – Steely Dan Cut 4, side 2 of ‘Can’t Buy A Thrill’ that got lost in a stream of hits from side 1. Fugue State – The Funk Ark Brand new Jazz/Afrobeat from the D.C. based seven-piece ensemble. Who knew the nation’s capitol could be so funky? Baby Don’t Go – Sonny & Cher Follow up to ‘I Got You Babe’ – that Sonny Bono sure knew how to write a pop song. Teenage Kicks - Undertones Northern Irish punk from ‘77. Nobody does punk like the Irish do punk.
