In this episode I detail my production workflow for my new show, Fractal Bitcoin. I publish daily episodes both as video and audio-only. Fractal Bitcoin covers Bitcoin news and other Bitcoin topics. Overview my current audio equipment setup: RE20 microphone — https://products.electrovoice.com/na/en/re20/ sE Electronics DM1 Dynamite Active Inline Preamp — https://seelectronics.com/products/dm1/ Neve Portico II Channel Strip — https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/rupert-neve-designs-portico-ii-channel Sound Devices MixPre-6 Gen.1 — https://www.sounddevices.com/product/mixpre-6/ Overview my production workflow: Gather posts and news stories from Nostr, X and a few other industry websites. (Takes me around 2 hours) Order all the posts and stories for the shownotes. Create a title for the episode. Create a 16x9 thumbnail for the episode using ChatGPT which uses DALL-E 3 to generate images. — https://chatgpt.com/ Restart my computer. Arrange all the browser tabs. Open OBS Studio and do a short test recording. (My audio levels, video camera and lighting stay the same everyday) I record my episode as if it's LIVE to a .mov file at 1920x1080, 60 frames per second, video bitrate at 16,000 kbps, and audio bitrate at 2304 kbps. (My average video is about 15 min. long, which ends up being around a 2Gb .mov file) First I produce the video: Process the audio in iZotope RX: Make it a mono file, usually Silence any lipsmacks and noises (can't delete anything because the audio has to line up with the video) Level it to -16.5 LUFS mono or -13.5 LUFS stereo (for video) Save it as a 32-bit .wav file Bring the raw video and processed audio into Screenflow. Usually I don't need to make any edits but sometimes I do. — https://www.telestream.net/screenflow/overview.htm Render the video as a .mp4 file at 1920x1080, 60 frames per second, video bitrate at 16,000 kbps, and audio bitrate at 256 kbps and audio sample rate at 48kHz. (The resulting file size ends up being the same as the raw video recording — about 2Gb for a 15 min. long file) Upload and publish the video to YouTube, Rumble, Bitchute, TikTok, and Flare.pub (a Nostr platform to which I upload a smaller 960x540 version) I promote my YouTube video on Nostr, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and a few other platforms. I also post the Youtube link to my Locals community that I'm growing. I also use Opus Clip to create 5 shorts from each of my daily videos. I post all 5 to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok and LinkedIn. — https://www.opus.pro/ Then I produce the audio-only podcast: I edit the audio a bit: Remove any isolated umms and flubs Reduce the length of any dead air, if there is any, in order to speed up the pacing slightly. Level it to -18.5 LUFS mono or -15.5 LUFS stereo (for audio-only podcast) Save it as a 32-bit .wav file as well as an .mp3 file (96 kbps mono or 192 kbps stereo). Tag the .mp3 using ID3 Editor. — http://www.pa-software.com/id3editor/ Upload .mp3 to Captivate along with shownotes and publish. — https://www.captivate.fm/ For my website I use Podpage which automatically brings in each podcast episode from Captivate as a blog post. I'm able to quickly optimize the post, add the YouTube video, and add images, etc. — https://www.podpage.com/ FRACTAL BITCOIN LINKS: YouTube — https://www.youtube.com/@fractalbitcoin Rumble — https://rumble.com/c/c-5471042 Twitter — https://twitter.com/fractalBitcoin Nostr — https://nostr.com/npub1jz42cy8qxw6dres86sn0cr42hww24pnjqssa4k9wxqvzm5l0mvqsq2f5ku Instagram — https://www.instagram.com/fractalbitcoin/ A GREAT BITCOIN RESOURCE: BOOK — The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous — https://saifedean.com/tbs OTHER NOTES: The start date for the next PES semester is JUNE 4, 2024! Today we're joined by Mike Rugnetta, a sound explorer of many forms. We get into music, podcasting, and a bit of sonic philosophy. Mike teaches us about field recorders, specifically the Sound Devices MixPre-3, and how they've been a part of his creative output through the years. Expect discussions of the meditative nature of capturing and manipulating sound, the value of a ping pong ball, and why Mike nearly chose a hard drive as his object. Returning all-star guest Max Flight helps me cover 17 ways to re-evaluate your podcast this summer, and we also discuss Max's latest podcast production workflow, equipment, software and more. Max has been producing aviation podcasts since 2008: Airplane Geeks (now over 700 episodes!) The UAV Digest (looking at unmanned aircraft or drones) Check out his main site — http://thirtythousandfeet.com/ He was previously on episodes 20 and 39 of this show Check out his equipment, software, services and more below... We discuss these 17 ways in which you can re-evaluate and improve your show this summer: Update your goals Change the format Start using chapters Personal focus on eliminating verbal crutches. (A short duration of intense focus will provide years of good results) Change and/or add equipment Sell old equipment Treat yourself to that mic you've always wanted Sound absorption and diffusers Add a new segment Cover new yet pertinent subject matter topics Publish in video format as well Publish better shownotes Revamp your marketing Evaluate the shows overall effectiveness Hire a VA Bring on a cohost Decide to end your show??? Perhaps decide you want to become a professional podcast engineer/producer and earn a great living producing podcasts for clients - from home?! And here's a lot more detail on Max's production: Big changes since PES 20 and PES 39 mostly involve a simplification of the signal path: Skype and cohost multi-enders replaced by Riverside.fm Behringer mixer (still going strong since 2009!) replaced with MixPre The MixPre handles all mic pre-amplification Sound clips and pre-recorded segments played through Riverside, replacing an iOS soundboard Backup recording is handled by the MixPre Current equipment: Sound Devices MixPre-6 Also use a MixPre-3 Gen 2 for field recordings Zoom H5 for field recordings, too Heil PR40 Sennheiser MD46 interview mic Dell XPS 16 and MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2018 model, 2.9GHz i9 32 GB laptops Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones Yamaha HS5 monitors Software: Riverside.fm (was Skype then Squadcast) Hindenburg Journalist Pro Audacity (yep!) iZotope RX 8 Advanced ID3 Editor for tagging Services: Media hosting: Blubrry and Libsyn Website hosting: Bluehost and SiteGround Notes from Max: I'm retired and traveling more which makes weekly podcast production a bit more difficult. Biggest current problem: At the home studio I mix/master with my Yamaha monitors, which I love. I can't master properly with the Audio Technica headphones when traveling. Other Notes: If you ever have questions please reach out! You can sign up to receive Daily Goody's in your email a few times per week or a weekly roundup. Sign up here. Anna Khromova is a production sound mixer and boom op based out of New York City. Anna uses a Sound Devices 833 mixer/recorder and a Sound Devices MixPre-6 as a backup and audio interface. For wireless, she uses Lectrosonics 411a receivers and 400 series transmitters as well as Lectrosonics SSM transmitters. Anna has a K-Tek Stingray Junior sound bag and harness. She likes using Sanken COS-11D lavalier mics, Sennheiser MKH-416 shotgun mics and a Sennheiser MKH-50. Anna also likes Tentacle Sync timecode boxes. Follow her on Instagram @annasoundny. Each episode we talk with location sound mixers, boom ops and other industry pros about the various aspects of recording sound on-location for feature and independent films, TV commercials, interviews, anytime where dialog from actors is recorded. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or just starting out, this podcast is packed with great stories and lessons about recording on-location.
Welcome back. It's been a while. Since we last saw each other I bought a new recorder: a Sound Devices MixPre 6 II. It's a joy to use. Some of the sounds recorded in this episode were captured with this new recorder and some with my old Zoom H5. I've recorded a lot of smaller things over the summer and early fall, but these are some of my favorites.I'm in the process of judging interest in the raw WAV files for recordings published on Phonogrifter. If this is something that would interest you, please let me know at brett@buddin.org. I'm happy to share. If enough people ask about them, I'll work on publishing them somewhere.

Follow on Twitter: Dallas Taylor, Twenty Thousand Hertz, Defacto Sound. We discussed SO MUCH in this episode including: His studio has acoustic panels and lots of foam, etc. Shure SM7b microphone Yellowtec boom arm Argosy console desk Sound Devices MixPre-6 He has writers on staff Uses Rev.com for transcription Sound design starts with the script Table reads with his team He's very cognizant of emotional dynamics of episodes Start episodes with a small thing that arouses curiosity Every 15-30 seconds he tries to have some kind of sonic change to keep the listeners attention Early in his career he worked on foley for films Tweak sounds during editing? Yes! Tons. His sound designer Soren uses Pro Tools with lots of plugins, etc. iZotope software Has many sound FX libraries and music beds, etc Sound Toys plugins Limiters Compressors EQ’s Final MP3 files are between 160-320 kbps! Megaphone for hosting - dynamic ad insertion, etc. He sells his own ads Thanks for sharing so much with us, Dallas!

In 1987, Singapore's first Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew conceptualized a freshwater dam to be built across the Marina Channel. 21 years later, on 31st October 2008, Singapore's 15th reservoir was opened. The 350m long dam serves 3 purposes - water storage, flood control, and recreation. It took a year and a half before the seawater was naturally replaced by rainwater. African Treetops at Jurong BirdPark is an aviary that recreates a rainforest canopy housing a lot of rather noisy birds from Africa. Parrots are legendary mimics, but like any performer, they need an audience to really perform. I came by early in the morning, before 9 am, one of the first visitors to the park, and strolling around Parrot Paradise, the macaws, cockatoos, and parrots were still warming up. At full squawk, parrots can hit 155 decibels (louder than a rock concert!) so early morning is probably the best time to drop by and say hello. Autobuska stanica, Kragujevac recorded by Danilo Crnogrorac."The atmosphere was recorded on Friday morning at Autobuska stanica Kragujevac (main bus station). Friday is usually the busiest day of the week in Kragujevac, students are going home for the weekend, people travel for a short 3-day holiday, especially now in March for skiing. But, today is a day before the partial lockdown. On Saturday and Sunday only food stores, gas stations and pharmacies will work. Everything else will be closed - restaurants, mountain resorts, cinemas, shopping malls, schools... "People have to stay at home. It will be a rainy weekend so no one travels for a nature trip neither. Only two buses were at the station, both with engines running on idle, which could be heard on recording. Few people are waiting for their buses, it is very quiet and scary. 10 years ago when I was studying in another city and traveling back home on Fridays for the weekend the situation was so much different. Endless lines of people waiting for their buses, noise, engine loudness, crowd talking. This atmosphere was recorded with Shure VP88 microphone and Sound Devices MixPre 6 II recorded, 32 bit 192 kHz."Part of the StayHomeSounds project to map and reimagine the sounds of the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Anti-racism marches mobilise thousands across Switzerland. 10,000 marched In financial hub Zurich. Demonstrators there also donned black clothes and carried banners that read “white silence is violence.” Police initially tried to dissuade them from marching on account of public health restrictions in place to counter the coronavirus pandemic. The march could finally go through on condition that it stayed peaceful. Notes on my production for this episode: Recording: I used a Heil PR30 microphone and my mouth was about 1-2" from the foam windscreen. The mic was plugged directly into a Sound Devices MixPre-6 and recorded using Audio Hijack. Post-Production: First I had to de-plosive the raw recording because it had huge plosives on it due to my close proximity, even though I had a windscreen on the mic. Then for mixing I mostly used the Celestial plugin from Acustica (which is Free until February 14, 2020) as well as a bit of Fabfilter Pro-G gate and Vocal Rider from Waves. My thoughts on the final sound of my voice: Please note I limited myself to the Celestial plugin in this episode (except for the couple others listed above) so I could try it out in full. I like the Celestial plugin a lot but I would have liked to do more precise EQ'ing on my voice, and I would have liked to use its compressor a bit more gently and in conjunction with an additional compressor plugin. Also, the tone of my voice through the PR30 is not the best I've ever heard. Announcement: The start date for the next PES will be January 14, 2020 Did you learn anything from this episode? Great conversation with Bryan Entzminger, host of Engaging Missions and podcast engineer/editor. We discuss his podcast production and quite a bit about his preferred DAW which he is quite skilled in using: Hindenburg Journalist Pro. Here is Bryan's Live Demonstration of Hindenburg Journalist Pro, and here's a 90-day free trial of Hindenburg Journalist Pro. Here are Bryan's production details: Electro-Voice RE320 Rolls cough switch Sound Devices MixPre-3 For remote internet calls, I use a second computer (an old Dell) into the line in for the MixPre-3 using a hardware mix-minus in the MixPre I record 2 tracks right onto the SD card in the MixPre. I also run 2 tracks via USB into my MacBook Pro and record into Hindenburg Journalist Pro Voice profiler in Hindenburg can create custom profiles! For editing, I use Hindenburg Journalist Pro along with iZotope RX7 for audio restoration and Ozone 7 for mastering and a variety of Waves and other plugins depending on the need. I mix and edit in multitrack mode, export to WAV fully mastered but not normalized to -16/-19. I then bring that mastered file back into Hindenburg to level using the loudness matching and either convert to MP3 using Hindenburg or RX7. If I use Hindenburg, I'll also apply the id3 tags and upload right to Libsyn from there. Also, Bryan got back to me about the Hindenburg auto-leveling feature that we discussed in the episode: "I did several checks with the auto-level with effects and it appears my original assumption was correct. The auto-level is at the "region" (clip) level upon input - prior to ANY processing within Hindenburg." Thanks for sharing so much great info, Bryan! The Rode Rodecaster Pro has caught the attention of many podcasters, and some have pulled the trigger. Jim Harold (Paranormal podcast) and Jeff Bradury from Teachercast have purchased the unit. I want to thank Rode for shipping me a unit to play with. Their first impression was amazing. Is It Worth the Money? If purchased a four channel mixer a popular mixer is the Behringer Q1202USB is $119 A Mackie Headphone Amplifier is $40 A Jingle pallet can cost you $10 (Backpack Studio on iOs) but you'll need a phone or a tablet A portable recorder at its cheapest is $119 for a Zoom H1N The Aphex processing would cost you $345. Total Price: That would be $120+40+10+120+345 = $635 The Rodecaster Pro clocks in at $599 and you avoid all the cabling all over the place. You don't have to learn about "Gain staging" and if you're using a half decent microphone, you're going to sound great. Spec Sheet PDF Quick Start Guide Jeff Bradbury of Teachercast 9:51 Jeff Bradbury from the Teachercast loves his Rodecaster Pro Jeff had a situation where he needed to interview someone over the phone and it turned out great. Jeff points out that if you're using something external for mix-minus, you might hit a snag He also wishes it came with a Micro SD card. He has worked with it on Skype and Zoom. Jeff is using a Mac If you're a teacher, check out everything Jeff has to offer at www.teachercast.net Jim Harold From the Paranormal Podcast 14:21 Jim Harold has been podcasting since 2005 and produces the Paranormal Podcast, Campfire, Crime Scene along with being the author of many books (all available at www.jimharold.com ) Jim loves the ease of use and enjoys having a noise gate to cut out room noise when he's not talking. He really loves the sound the unit is producing. At the time of the recording, Jim had used it for 4-6 new episodes. Jim has used a Sound Devices Mixpre-3, and a Zoom L12, but really loves the sound he is producing with the Rodecaster. Jim also records a show with his wife called Soulmate Stories and it makes it super easy to pull in people who want to share their stories check it out at http://www.soulmatestoriespodcast.com Jim also hopes in the future there is a way to access recording without having to take the micro SD card out. Jim is also on a Mac. Jim also feels that while he doesn't miss having separate tracks for each person, it would be nice to offer this option in the future. Dave Jackson's Rodecaster Review First of all, I was blown away by the package that was sent to me from the Rode people. This was my first interaction with this company, and I'm not sure I've experienced such a great first impression. I love that you can configure this in minutes. You simply pair the unit with your phone and you're off and running. I used it on Saturday for a live show using Google Hangouts and also on a Group Coaching call using zoom.us and while Rode says it's not set up for the USB to be "mix minus" it appears to work. I like that you can reset the timer if you make a flub and want to start again without stopping the recording. I love the built-in headphone amplifier (don't miss the 3.5mm on the front if you are flying solo). I have my headphones plugged into one, and my studio monitors into another. I am having a slight playback issue (I'm the only one of the three using a new Windows machine). I also hate the MicroSD Card and would love to drag and drop the files to my computer without having to take the card out. I wish there was a pause button so if something goes wrong you could pause the recording. I also wish there was a pause on the jingle buttons so if you wanted to stop and comment on something and then resume your could. In my tests using the TRRS cable made myself sound better to the caller, but decreased their volume. The blue tooth option made the caller louder, but I sounded "not as good" to the caller (but still usable) While Dave doesn't miss separate tracks (but admittedly he is interviewing podcasters who have decent audio quality) he does wish there was a tad more control over the tone. A Weird Playback Issue on Windows 46:18 I had a weird playback issue that apparently does not go into the recording. It is somewhat like a "buzz" that only I hear (not the people on the call. As I just recently got my unit and started putting it through the paces I am the only person I know having these issues. I have contacted Rode support to see if there is something on my end. I have found that whatever program I'm using if I temporarily switch what I'm using for a microphone it goes away. Microphone Shootout The Rode Procaster vs the Electrovoice RE320 52:54 The Rode Procaster has a very warm sound to it. While I didn't have a pop filter on it, but not talking directly into it I had no popping issues. The RE320 has a nice clear sound and really there is no bad choice here. For me, I've been using the RE320 for years. I enjoy the clarity, and the tone doesn't seem to change much if I get close to the mic. The Rode Procaster is $189. The Electrovoice RE320 is $299. If you are looking for the warmth of a Heil Pr40 without the $327 price tag, you might give it a shot. There is a WS2 Windscreen for the Procaster if you want one. Best Uses Of the Rodecaster Pro If you are doing a podcast where up to four people are in the room, and you want a very short learning curve through the technology, this is the unit for you. You just need to: Do your best not to talk over each other (although channel one can be set as the "top dog" with a ducking feature which turns everyone down) There is no way to tell how much time is left, or how long a jingle will be playing. With this in mind, don't have music you have to "talk up" and then have the music fade in. This would take some practice, or the music you are talking over has to be OBVIOUS when it's time to fade it back in. With the above items, with a little planning ahead you can sound like an old radio pro in minutes. So if you have a co-host(s) and occasionally have a guest who wants to call in via the phone - this is THE solution. How I Managed Live Calls on the Ask the Podcast Coach Last Week Last week I used the Rodcaster Pro to take phone calls on a live streaming program. I used Google Live (formerly Google Hangouts on Air) for my video. I if you just want audio you can use a tool such a mixlr.com to stream your audio to your audience, or spreaker.com which also will stream audio. To create a call queue, I use callinstudio.com. I attached my phone to the Rodecaster Pro via Bluetooth, and called my host number at callinstudio.com and gave out the callinstudio.com phone number for the callers. I monitor the calls via callinstudio.com and can add them to the call, or drop them if needed. They came through and sounded great.

He said this is a recent note to investors: "We expect that Apple Car, which will likely be launched in 2023–2025, will be the next star product. The reasons for this are as follows: (1) Potentially huge replacement demands are emerging in the auto sector because it is being redefined by new technologies. (2) Apple’s leading technology advantages (like AR) would redefine cars and differentiate Apple Car from peers’ products (3) Apple’s service will grow significantly by entering the huge car finance market via Apple Car, and (4) Apple can do a better integration of hardware, software, and service than current competitors We may finally know AirPower Mat price https://www.cultofmac.com/569989/we-may-finally-know-airpower-price/ The long-awaited launch of Apple’s AirPower wireless charging pad may coincide with the launch of the 2018 iPhone lineup. Based on a new report out of Asia, Apple engineers are in the debugging phase of the AirPower rollout. The product may not launch on the exact same day as the 2018 iPhones, but a Chinese site claims to know the planned price. And it’s not going to be cheap. Though a previous rumor claimed the price could hit $200, Apple will reportedly charge $149 for the AirPower charging mat, according to Chongdiantou. In Episode 3 of Brand on Broadcasting with Ross Brand, I talk about audio interfaces, what they do and why they are important to the quality of your audio when recording in a computer or streaming to the internet. I also discuss Sound Devices' MixPre-3, an audio interface, mixer and recorder. What makes it unique vs competing products is not only the outstanding quality of its Kashmir preamps, but its ability to serve as both a recorder and audio interface at the same time. We wish a very happy 20th anniversary to the team at Sound Devices, a company with a great reputation for making high-quality audio products. I look forward to checking out more gear from Sound Devices at Podcast Movement in Philadelphia later this month. This review of the MixPre-6 by Daniel J. Lewis is very thorough. Sound Devices actually made an update to fix the issue causing one of Daniel's few criticisms in the otherwise strongly favorable review. Parts of this episode were recorded live on Facebook Live late at night on July 13, 2018 and early in the morning on July 14, 2018.

Full show notes can be seen at www.schoolofpodcasting.com/580 Why Keeping It Simple is a Good idea I do a show every Saturday call Ask the Podcast Coach with Jim Collison from theaverageguy.tv and at one point I decided to connect with Jim over Google hangouts, as well as have a Call In Number for the phone. I had to send a mix to Jim that had myself and the caller (but not Jim) while sending a mix to the caller than had myself and Jim (but not the caller). For those up on the lingo, I had to configure two mix minuses. I needed a mixer with two auxiliary outs. I found the Behringer X1832. It did the job well. I had a ton of extra channels, and effects that I never used. Then we switched and instead of using a phone (using CallinStudio.com) we went to a chat window to take questions. This was simple and free (using chatwing.com) . So now I have a giant mixer taking up half my desk, and I was looking for an alternative. I have a Yamaha MG102c Mixer (which has been replaced by the MG10XU) that would do the job. For whatever reason, I just didn't like it. It seemed like I had to crank everything up to the max. It still had a clean sound, but it seemed like I really had to push everything. I realize this is stupid (cause you should vote with your ears, not your eyes) but I've been hesitant to go back to it. The Other Problem with Recording Levels I use a Zoom H5. A great device with a giant screen. However, due to the way the studio is setup with the majority of the light coming in from Behind the Zoom H5 I cant' really get a clear reading. While there are lights to let me know when things are peaking, I tend to feel those are too sensitive. Then I heard about the Sound Devices MixPre-3. This might solve all my problems. Bad Time for a Product Review I received the Sound Devices MixPre-3 this week. It's horrible timing as I'm getting ready to run off to Podcast Movement, and I'm busy packing, buying Dramamine, recording podcasts and won't have time to do a super deep dive. So here is what I want it to do: Power my Electrovocie RE320 without a ton of his I want to do a mix minus for when I do shows with a co-host via skype or Google hangouts I want to plugin my ipad to play sound effects. First Impressions Of the Mix Pre-3 WOW IS THIS THING SMALL. I have an iPhone 6s, and it might be an inch wider, but it is the size of an iPhone on steroids. VERY COOL. At first, I was worried about the touchscreen display. But the display is super clear, and you can adjust the brightness. I had no problems reading it. I was worried about the touchscreen is small. That didn't seem to be an issue (I'm a guitar player with long fingers and not very fat). I almost didn't need the manual. I plugged in a microphone, hit record and was up and running. Using it as an Interface - WHY AM I DRUNK? I went into Hindenburg Journalist and did a recording. it was nice and clear, but I sounded slightly drunk as my voice was lower (as if the sound had been slowed down). I launched Adobe Audition and got the same issue. Hmmm. As I'm on a PC, I right-clicked on the Speaker in the bottom right-hand corner of my screen and went to the Properties of the Mix Pre-3. I had to set the recording and playback to 2 channel 24 bit, 48K. This solved the issue, and everything sounded fine. How Do I Setup a Mix Minus? I was able to set the input of Channel 2 to USB-1, and I could now hear my Skype caller. I was on Channel 3, and life was good. How do I go about making sure that the sound of the caller does not go back to the caller? I look at the output, and all the output routing is for the stereo out mix. Where do I adjust what goes back to the caller? I looked, and looked, and headed to YouTube. They have a video on the Sound Devices website, but they just said, "Set the input and out to the MixPre-3. My thought was, Yeah, but then what. Finally, I saw a video that explained you can't route what is going back to the USB output, and that you don't need to setup a mix minus, as IT JUST DOES IT. Well, that's cool. I'm definitely stopping by their booth at Podcast Movement and asking some questions about this as (and this is important) I'm not sure I'm 100% right on that. If I wanted to use the Stereo Output jack into another USB device (in my case I use a Griffin imic) than I could get into more advanced setups. What Would I Fix About it? The On/Off switch is placed in a not so great spot, but then again because this thing is so tiny, any place you put the switch it's going to be right on top of something. It seems like having the SD card behind the battery pack is a bad idea. However, when I push a button and turn on file transfer, it was super fast to copy the files from the device to my computer. I originally was somewhat bummed that it doesn't have a "Marker" feature, but using the wingman app (free) I can lookup and see what time the boo-boo happened and make a mental note. Not as cool as a marker (especially if you wanted to pass your audio to someone else), but it's a hack for the lack of marker. While I would almost always be using USB to power the unit, I think charging $40 for an AC power adapter (not included) is BS. If they didn't have the wingman app (which is very cool) trying to rename something would be a joke. I love that I downloaded the app, and it just connected. So the short answer of what would I change? - Not almost nothing. What About the Price? The price for the unit Pre-3 Unit is $699, the Pre-6 is $899, and the price of the adapter (AC) is $40. Sound Devices MixPre-3 Audio Recorder/Mixer and USB Audio Interface Sound Devices MixPre-6 Audio Recorder/Mixer and USB Audio Interface Sound Devices MX-Charge AC Power Supply for MixPre-3 and MixPre-6 Who Should Buy This? Someone who is going to be traveling alot, and wants to create great audio without having to worry (too much) about breaking the unit. The person wouldn't use the built-in microphones of a Zoom H5, and will always be traveling with a mic to record, and headphones to listen. Someone who has a small space, and they don't want their kids messing with a mixer. These units allow you to create presets, so you can fire up the unit press a button and everything is set. Also, it is super easy to plug stuff in. The person who understands that any tweaking of sound (more bass, treble,) will be done later in post production (where a mixer allows you to add it while you record) Fun Things To Check Out Mike Russel's YouTube Channel (AMAZING ADOBE AUDITION TUTORIALS Answer the Public - Interesting keyword/question tool (don't use the visualization view) Zoom H6 Course - Want to get the most out of your H6?
