IBM and Intel have recently reported their earnings, revealing significant challenges despite some positive figures. IBM exceeded earnings expectations with a revenue of $14.54 billion, but its net income fell sharply due to the U.S. government's cost-cutting measures, resulting in a loss of $100 million from canceled contracts. Meanwhile, Intel reported a net loss of $8 million, with stagnant revenues and a warning of potential layoffs as the company struggles to adapt to a competitive semiconductor market. Both companies face pressure to innovate and demonstrate value in a rapidly changing landscape. In the fintech sector, Alternative Payments has successfully raised $22 million to enhance automation and accessibility for managed service providers (MSPs). The company aims to address the unique billing challenges faced by MSPs, which often deal with recurring billing and slow payment cycles. With plans for international expansion, Alternative Payments is focused on building a comprehensive financial services platform that can significantly improve processing times for its clients.CyberVerify, a compliance platform developed by MSP Alliance, has announced enhancements to empower MSPs and software-as-a-service companies. The upgraded platform features a new user interface and a scoring model for measuring compliance maturity, along with an API for seamless integrations. These improvements aim to provide ongoing compliance visibility, moving away from traditional yearly audits, but the platform's success will depend on maintaining trust and independence in its scoring mechanisms. The episode also highlights emerging trends in AI, with OpenAI introducing a lightweight version of its ChatGPT tool and a new open-source text-to-speech model from Nary Labs. These developments reflect a shift towards more localized and controllable AI solutions that prioritize user trust. Additionally, Microsoft's Work Trend Index report indicates a growing reliance on digital labor, emphasizing the importance of the human-to-AI agent ratio in organizational success. The episode concludes with a discussion on the simplicity and modularity of technology, as exemplified by Slate Auto's upcoming electric pickup truck, which aims to disrupt the automotive market with its minimalist design. According to Microsoft's most recent Work Trend Index, published in September 2022, more than half of managers (53%) report feeling burned out at work. This statistic is striking, and it is slightly higher than the burnout rates among employees in general. However, it is not surprising given the circumstances. Managers have had to guide their teams through a pandemic and its aftermath, facing challenges that required them to lead with empathy while managing increasing demands with potentially fewer resources—all while receiving little recognition for their efforts. This untenable situation has left many managers struggling. A survey conducted by Forbes and MyPerfectResume involving over 1,200 U.S. workers highlights the scale and impact of burnout: 88% of workers report experiencing burnout, and one in five considers quitting their job on a daily basis. Certified Counselor Jahmaal Marshall specializes in helping corporate executives address burnout at its root, using proven methods to double their time and maximize productivity. For as long as I can remember, I lived to please others and rarely resisted the demands placed on me. This led to chronic procrastination, perfectionism, poor boundaries, and unhealthy coping mechanisms to numb the pain. Burnout became a way of life for me. As a manager, I hesitated to delegate tasks for fear that the results wouldn't meet my expectations. I often operated out of a fear of rejection, which affected all my interactions. As an employee, I second-guessed every interaction and never turned down any project. The constant pressure from all sides became a mental prison, leading me to seek unhealthy outlets and addictions as a means to cope with the pain I was unwilling to confront. However, I learned a lot about my triggers and behavior patterns, and I discovered how to harness them for maximum productivity. Jahmaal Marshall joined me this week to share more insights on this topic. LinkedIn: @JahmaalMarshall Get the Freebie: https://mailchi.mp/83059b50b2e8/3-tips-to-mitgate-burnout-from-the-inside-out

Microsoft Ireland has released the 2024 Work Trend Index revealing the highest increase in employee movement across organisations in Ireland in three years. Almost a quarter of the workforce (23%) changed organisation in the last 12 months, compared to 19% in 2023, and 14% in 2022. The top three reasons for changing employers included personal well-being or mental health impact, lack of promotions or raises, and a lack of work-life balance. Younger workers are big drivers of employee movement, with more than half of Gen Z workers (53%) and more than a third of millennials (33%) leaving their employer in the last year. This trend is set to continue as 52% of this cohort are considering changing organisations in the next 12 months within their industry. The annual survey, which is now in its third year, was conducted by Amárach Research among almost 700 workers across Ireland in May this year. It provides year-on-year comparisons of the changing trends, experiences, and workplace expectations of workers in Ireland now and into the future. Additional revenue streams This year's Work Trend Index also reveals a new trend - just under half of workers in Ireland are considering opportunities to make extra revenue via a side project or business in the year ahead (42%). This may see even greater competition for employers to retain the interest and exclusivity of workers dedicated to their organisation as workers look for alternate employment solutions and greater autonomy. Bridge required between in-office and at-home experience When asked about ways of working, while hybrid working is now commonplace, it is still not without its challenges - suggesting a need for a bridge between the in-office experience and at-home experience. The results show an increase of 5% year-over-year among those feeling isolated, demotivated, and out of touch due to remote working. This sentiment was highest among Gen Z and younger Millennials, among whom 86% found some aspect of hybrid working a challenge. The future of AI in the workplace As organisations continue to investigate the transformational potential of AI, the research highlights that knowledge workers in Ireland are less concerned about the impact of AI on their roles (19%), compared to the global average (45%). More than two thirds of Irish knowledge workers (65%) would accept training in AI if offered by their organisation, and 34% claim having AI skills is critically important to remain competitive in the jobs market. Additionally, more than a quarter feel that knowing how to use AI will help them get a promotion faster (26%). However, regardless of these acknowledgements by workers in Ireland of the uses and potential value of AI, adoption rates here remain significantly lower than the global average of 75%, standing at just 29%, signifying a distinct lack of access to AI amongst employees despite their openness to the technology. AI usage is being driven by younger workers, with almost half of under 35s saying they are using AI in their roles. The results are consistent with previous research Microsoft Ireland conducted in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin that identified a shadow AI culture emerging with a growing demand from employees who may be bringing their own AI to work, which may not be aligned to company policy with privacy, security, and data protection controls built in. Results of the study suggest a considerable proportion of knowledge workers feel their organisation has been too slow in adopting AI, with a declaration by almost half that their workplace should adopt AI to stay competitive (41%). More than half also believe that management has not taken a sufficient position on AI (53%) pointing to an ask of employees for management to better consider ways in which AI solutions could support them. Commenting on the research findings, Microsoft Ireland Chief Operating Officer, Ronan Geraghty, points to the potential of AI technologies to reshape the employee experienc...

In this MidDay Café hosts Tyrelle Barnes and Michael Gannotti host Principal People Science Manager, Justin Bethke, Microsoft Viva Glint. During the session Justin covers topics such as: • What is Glint and how does it fit into Microsoft Viva?: Justin explained that Glint is a tool to measure and improve employee experience and happiness, and that it was acquired by LinkedIn and then moved to Microsoft as part of Viva, the employee experience platform. • What are the trends and best practices in employee listening and surveying?: Justin shared that the frequency and cadence of surveys should depend on the business outcomes and problems that the organization is trying to solve, and that combining active and passive data (such as from Viva Insights) can provide more insights and actionability. • How to transition and transform to a newer approach of employee listening?: Justin suggested that organizations can start with smaller or more targeted surveys that match their talent or business rhythms, and that they should push the ownership and accountability of the results and actions to the lowest level possible, such as frontline managers. • How to leverage AI to assist in employee listening and action taking?: Justin mentioned that Microsoft Copilot, the AI engine, can help leaders and managers to analyze and interpret the survey data and comments, and to suggest next steps and actions based on the insights. • *(topics pulled from video using Copilot in Teams Meetings asking Copilot to recap the meeting) Microsoft Viva Glint has the potential to help transform an organization and it comes with the Microsoft Viva Suite. Our guest for this episode is Newton Cheng, a father, world class powerlifter, engineer, and Google's Director of Health and Performance. In his work he leads a team with the mission to support the physical, mental, social and spiritual health and wellbeing of Google's global workforce. We went into this conversation looking to compare corporate wellness with tactical human performance, but we came away from it with so much more. This wide ranging conversation covers everything from the importance of mastery practices to making meaningful social connection their primary measure of effectiveness. While Newton works in a space that is very different from the military, it is astonishing how many of the points he made are directly relevant to challenges we face. At times it felt like he had been in some of the same meetings we have. He argues that retention means ensuring talented people flourish in your system, that quantitative data may not be the most important thing when considering health and wellness outcomes, and that vulnerability is a superpower because of the way it enables meaningful social connection. He also spends some time addressing his personal experience with taking mental health leave from work, and if that's something you want to hear more about, he speaks about it frequently in numerous other forums. If you're the kind of listener who wants to follow up on all the interesting references Newton provides, here they are: He recommended the work of Dr. Lauren Whitt, Google's Head of Resilience. He suggested Ken Wilbur's Integral Theory and Paul Gibbons' work on The Science of Successful Organizational Change. He discussed how he was influenced by Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings, a classic book on strategy that is rooted in martial arts but has gained new popularity in the strength training community. He highlighted the value of Charles Vogl's The Art of Community for leaders seeking to build a culture of belonging in any organization. He cited Gallup survey findings that people who have a best friend at work get more done in less time, support a safe workplace with fewer accidents, are more likely to innovate and share ideas, and have more fun while at work. He highlighted Microsoft's Work Trend Index, and especially its emphasis on increasing rates of employee burnout.

Be Real 50 millions de téléchargements. For the newest generation of women embarking on their careers, it's been a rough start. According to Microsoft's 2021 Work Trend Index, 60% of Gen Z workers— between the ages of 18 and 25—said they were either barely surviving or flat-out struggling. Compared to previous generations, Gen Z workers said they were also more likely to struggle finding the balance between work and their personal lives, feeling burnout quicker than most. Through all these challenges, some have learned to cope in a very Gen Z way: via TikTok. Needless to say, Gen-Z is bringing a fresh perspective to the evolving workforce, and there is one corporate millennial who's been paying attention and leading the way. Enter: Today's guest, Corporate Natalie. As a successful content creator who is taking on corporate America by day and becoming a rising TikTok star by night, Natalie is using her platform to shed some comedy on the everyday work anxieties we all seem to be dealing with. After experiencing the utter bleakness of 2020's ‘Work From Home' life, Natalie couldn't help but take to TikTok to poke fun at current state Corporate America. With over 328,000 Followers on Instagram and 316,000 Followers and 12 Million Likes on TikTok, she is now able to make people around the world laugh and bond over the shared hilarity of ‘New Normal' nuances. From Millennials and Gen Zs turning towards the metaverse to a significant cross-section of all workers opting out of conventional work arrangements, Microsoft's Work Trend Index 2022 packs in a fascinating overview of some of the most disruptive workforce dynamics that are already confronting employers or are likely to do so soon. In this episode, we explore three of the key findings from Microsoft's report, including its prediction that the workers huddling around the office watercooler will soon be replaced by their personal avatars hanging out in the metaverse; its conclusion that middle managers are not the principal driver of the Great Resignation as many now think; and its framing of the return to the office debate as a clash of values driven by a simple but powerful fact: we're not the same people that went home to work in early 2020. We all know that the world of work has been turned on its head. A recent survey found that 58% of employees want to spend the most and least time in the office for the same reason: more focused work. This is a key finding of The Work Trend Index survey conducted by Edelman Data & Intelligence. The sample of more than 31 000 full-time employed or self-employed workers across 31 markets earlier this year has also helped inform Microsoft that an employee's flexibility to work wherever they happen to be allows for more innovative thinking and a more productive state of “flow”. Colin Erasmus, Modern Workplace and Security Business Group lead at Microsoft South Africa, joins the TechCentral podcast to talk about these findings and what Microsoft is doing to address the complexities of the required new way of working. Think “people, places and process”, says Erasmus. “The model is simple, the employee engagement is fundamental, and the implications are measured through staff retention and business productivity.” Microsoft is very aware of every organisation's pressure to adapt and will always encourage a “security first” approach while not interrupting business as usual, he says. In the podcast, Erasmus also unpacks some local examples of how Microsoft is solving business transformation requirements and guiding teams to success. Mark Walker, associate vice president for sub-Saharan Africa at International Data Corp, also joins the discussion to expand on the survey results and shares IDC's predictions on hybrid working. Based on multiple research sources coupled with desk research that focuses on enterprises in the Global 2 000 list, IDC expects that by 2023, for example, digital transformation and business volatility will drive 70% of the world's largest organisations to deploy remote or hybrid-first work models, redefining work processes and engaging diverse talent pools. Don't miss the discussion. TechCentral

Our ability to connect anytime, anywhere, has enabled a remarkable transformation to hybrid work. It's also driving us to distraction. As Microsoft's 2021 Work Trend Index showed, about 39 percent of people worldwide describe themselves as exhausted. In this episode of WorkLab's new podcast, Dr. Clare Purvis, senior director of behavioral neuroscience at Headspace, talks to host Elise Hu about meditation as a mechanism against stress—and why employees and companies alike must address mental health. We're on the brink of a disruption as great as last year's sudden shift to remote work: the move to hybrid work — a blended model where some employees return to the workplace and others continue to work from home.
Back to work expectations? Flexibility and a healthy and balanced return are a must. Microsoft's Chief People Officer, Kathleen Hogan and Corporate Vice President Jared Spataro share insights from the company's 2021 Work Trend Index. They reveal ways to incorporate both flexibility and innovation, growth and company culture. Plus, their warning for companies and managers who do not evolve.

Microsoft's new report has timely data around a hot trend these days – hybrid work. This is going to be the way forward as we come out of the pandemic, but with challenges that are distinct from both work from home, and working in the office. Chris and Jon have it covered on Episode 35 of Watch This Space.
Are we ready for Hybrid work? Is this what disruption looks like.FTAWith 2020 behind us, we're on the brink of a disruption as great as last year's sudden shift to remote work: the move to hybrid. Remote work has given employees more flexibility and created job opportunities in new locations. But there are also challenges ahead. Teams have become more siloed and digital exhaustion is a real and unsustainable threat. With over 40 percent of the global workforce considering leaving their employer this year, a thoughtful approach to hybrid work will be critical. To help, the 2021 Work Trend Index outlines findings from a study of over 30,000 people in 31 countries and an analysis of trillions of productivity and labor signals across Microsoft 365 and LinkedIn – plus insights from experts on collaboration, social capital, and space design at work.----------Great study. Lots of questions to be answered. We have to navigate this disruption well.https://ms-worklab.azureedge.net/files/reports/hybridWork/pdf/WTIVisualGuide.pdf
