【句子】He says you're one tough cookie. A strong, determined person who is not easily intimidated, discouraged, or defeated.“一个意志坚强的,不会轻易被恐吓、被打败的人”;或者sb. who knows what they want and is not easily influenced by other people“一个知道自己要什么,不会轻易被别人影响的人”;这就很像中文中的“一块硬骨头”这样的说法。口语中我们也可以直接说a tough cookie,意思相同。还可以把末尾的cookie换成customer,也是一样的意思; eg: Our principal was a little lady, but she was one tough cookie!我们的校长曾是个小个子的女士,但她是个非常坚强的人! eg: She had a difficult childhood, but she's a tough cookie. I know she'll be a success.她童年吃过很多苦,但是她是个坚韧不拔的人,我知道她一定会成功的。 eg: He's a tough cookie, but I can handle him.他是一个难对付的家伙/一块难啃的硬骨头,但是我能应付得了。 eg: There was a tough cookie in here this morning who demanded to see the manager.今早这儿来了一个难缠的家伙,要求见经理呢。 eg: A pushover is not how I'd describe her. Behind that sweet smile, there lies a tough cookie.我不会用“好欺负”这样的字眼来形容她。在她那甜美的微笑之后,可是个坚韧不屈的人。 eg: He has a reputation as one tough cookie.他以坚韧不拔而闻名。 【尝试翻译以下句子,并留言在文章留言区】Self-confident, ambitious and positive, Paula is a tough cookie who is bound to do well.
We want to thank everyone who listened to any of our shows and tell everyone we will be back with more episodes in the New Year. We plan on making the episodes shorter, less scripted, and on a semi-regular basis, but the hope is that they seem more like discussions and less like reading. For our first episode in 6 months, we have our most popular guest ever and he is indeed BACK! Santa Claus himself has agreed to come back on our show for the fifth time and we couldn't be happier. Bible Reading: Ezekiel 36:26; Matthew 5:43-48; 1 Timothy 1:12-17Abby slid her lunch tray next to her best friend Everly. "Can you believe these cookies?" she complained, tapping a hard chocolate chip cookie against her front tooth. "A squirrel couldn't eat these!"Everly shrugged. "They're not so bad if you soak them first." She dunked her cookie in a glass of milk and took a bite. "See?""Oh yeah!" Abby said. "You're always full of good ideas.""I wish." Everly's expression soured. "Maybe then I'd know how to get Kenzie to quit pestering me. She's such a bully."Abby glanced across the cafeteria to where Kenzie sat alone. She'd started teasing Abby and her friends after learning they all went to the same church camp each summer. She called them dumb and stuck-up and claimed she'd never be caught dead in church, much less a summer camp for babies."Maybe we should invite her to eat with us," Abby suggested with a nervous nibble of her cookie. She knew it was the right thing to do even though she didn't like Kenzie very much, and the idea of eating lunch with her tied her stomach in knots. "Maybe then she'd get to know us better and we could tell her more about what we believe.""Yeah, I guess," Everly said. "She's asked me questions about my faith before, but I got the feeling she was just trying to pick a fight with me."As Abby thought it over, she had an idea. "Hey, what if Kenzie is like this cookie?"Everly wrinkled her nose. "You want to dunk her in milk? I could go along with that."Abby laughed. "No, I mean, what if Kenzie needs some softening too? Remember how I talked bad about God and the Bible before I knew Jesus loved me?" Everly tightened her lips, recalling some of the things Abby had said. "God had to change my heart," Abby continued. "Let's pray and ask God to soften Kenzie's heart and help us be kind to her." Everly considered her friend. "Okay, let's pray and then go ask Kenzie if she wants to join us for lunch." She dunked her cookie in her milk. "And can we pray for better cookies too?" Abby laughed and nodded. "Softer cookies and softer hearts."–Christa HoganHow About You?Have you met anyone whose heart seemed hardened toward God? It's easy to forget that we all had hard hearts before we experienced Jesus's love and He changed us. God can soften any heart, and He can help you love those who tease you or are mean to you because of your faith. Pray for those who don't know Jesus, and trust Him to help you show them His love.Today's Key Verse:But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Living life with passion and purpose is often birthed out of a challenging experience or life event. Today we chatted with Marie Camacho, the founder of One Tough Cookie, a non-profit organization on mission to support and encourage those going through cancer as well as their caregivers. Marie is a mom of 2 and a Breast Cancer survivor. During her battle, she was so grateful for the love and support she received, but also knows that for many, this can be a lonely and scary time, and that is where Marie's heart shines brightest! Marie wanted to use her pain for purpose so she founded One Tough Cookie in November 2019 and it has been growing ever since! Her organization puts together care packages and delivers them to cancer patients in local hospitals in Connecticut and New Jersey - This year, they plan to expand to New York as well! OTC has delivered over 1000 care packages in the area and sends care packages across the US to those tough cookies that have been nominated on her site. Marie wants patients to know that they never have to feel alone and her organization has a passion for being there and making them feel loved and supported. Want to get involved and make an impact through OTC? They always are looking for monthly sponsors, volunteers, and corporate sponsorship so they can continue serving. You can also donate products or sponsor a “Tough Cookie” right from the website. So be sure to check out all the ways you can get involved on the site: https://www.supportonetoughcookie.com/ And if you are a patient, you can reach out to Marie directly at info@supportonetoughcookie.com. Lana Payne is a firecracker. She'll answer anything. As the new head of UNIFOR Canada's biggest private sector union, she talks about dealing with Doug Ford, allegations of corruption, making nice with other unions and the threat of a general strike. All with a big smile on her face. She's proud of being the first woman in that job and super proud of her union roots in Newfoundland. Maureen is a bit obsessed with Norma Rae. Less so with Jimmy Hoffa. Lana Payne's dad was a union guy in Newfoundland and Labrador who happily paid his dues. His daughter started as a labour reporter , then columnist, and is now the first woman to run UNIFOR, Canada's largest private sector union. With the threat of the notwithstanding clause to shut down a CUPE strike, Payne's UNIFOR promised 100,000 dollars to help fight back. It was a big bet and it worked. This show features open and honest conversations with host, Austin Langley. This week on the podcast we have Jake Tupitza. The show begins with Austin asking about Jake's past injuries and it leads into a discussion about his martial arts father and financial planning mother. Jake explains how he was introduced to playing music, and his experience of recording an album and going on tour. The two talk about the differences between music and comedy, how they both have benefits and flaws as well as what it takes to blend the two art forms. One thing is very clear, Jake Does Not Jam. After a dive into the balance of writing for music and comedy, Jake opens up about his recent "Plateau" and Austin admits to his love for tricking new comics into telling inappropriate jokes on stage. The end of the podcast features an original outro song written and performed by Jake LIVE on the podcast. Guests on the show are encouraged to be genuine, while no subject is off the table. It is a judgment free space to talk about those subjects that aren't normally discussed in everyday life. Guests open up about those stories and personal experiences that maybe they haven't shared before or would like to get off their chest. The goal is to be unrestricted and transparent.

She's owner of the firm LeadQuine. And her LinkedIn headline describes her as: “Truth teller. People-ing Guru. Tough Cookie.” Ellen is also a friend of mine from high school, as we played together in a regional youth orchestra for a few years. In today's episode, Ellen shares her “favorite mistake” story about her time as a community organizer. She attended a meeting and assumed that her experiences growing up in Detroit would be relative to this group near Chicago. She was trying to prove her credentials, but learned that listening was more important than arguing about her bonafides. How did Ellen learn from this experience? Why is she now grateful that this happened? We also talk about questions and topics including: The importance of showing up, listening and asking questions (and not having your own agenda) Apologized… it was accepted… tough love You help people get better at communicating and interacting with others… common assumptions?? Ronan helps organisations understand the coming decade of disruption, and how they can move from burnout to resilience. His talks are rare in that they combine big picture trends with the science of resilience, and are packed with lots of psychological tools to manage stress, anxiety and burnout. Audiences leave with a surprising dose of optimism about the future and confidence in their ability to cope with increasing complexity. His expertise comes from having worked as a scenario planner to the British Foreign Office and strategic lead at RethinkX, the Think Tank analysing technological disruption and its impacts on society. He is also a Client Director at Tough Cookie, which help major companies to improve their mental resilience. In the past year, he has delivered inspiring keynotes to KPMG, McKinsey-Aberkyn, and INSEAD, giving senior leaders the insights they need to respond to this moment of chaos and uncertainty. His talks are inspiring because they come from my own lived experience of being in senior leadership positions. He speaks openly about the stress of being a decision maker in chaotic environments. This includes the severe burnout he faced after leading the political strategy for the global climate movement. Now more than ever, audiences need to understand how to cope with crisis and adversity, and having experienced his own dark night of the soul, he can speak honesty about how to use it as an invitation to grow as a leader. His speaking topics include: Resilience in the Decade of Disruption Challenges and Opportunities in a post-Covid World Technology and Emerging Trends Employee Engagement Mental Resilience Health and Well-Being If you love this podcast: Fuel my podcast and buy me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/Dbyd

Kim Weiler is, in her own words, a 'motor-city, Detroit girl'. She has a wide range of passions from music to travel, but it was a move to Georgia several years ago that woke up her love for the outdoors. She jumped into hiking and camping, and within a few months of joining Trail Dames, she became a Hike Leader, and then soon a Head Dame for the Georgia Chapter. It wasn't much later that she became a member of the Trail Dames Board of Directors, where she uses her background in corporate, global energy, and management to help grow the organization. She recently was direct offered a guest lead in ON MY BLOCK for Netflix. She has held leading roles in the Disney film ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING and in the feature film, HEAVEN SENT. She got her start as the lead of the short film, DIG, which premiered at Sundance in 2014. Have you ever wondered what happens to a cookie that won't rise while it's baking? Or, have you ever considered why a cookie may crumble after you take it out of the oven, when it has baked too long? In this episode, you will see just how much you have in common with a cookie that stays under intense heat too long. It becomes hard, bitter and often times even stuck to the pan. If a cookie becomes stuck and you try to lift it from the pan, after it becomes hard, there is a good chance the cookie will crumble. As you listen to today's show, you will discover what happens when you gather up the crumbs and when you throw them away. I pray that you will be blessed and encouraged to know that even if you crumble, God made you and created you to be a tough cookie. ~Dr. Lynn --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/drlynn-goebel/support

Today is a very special episode of Change The Subject. We use one of BJ's personal favorite personalities as the catalyst for a protection conversation about women. Hype Williamz is the guest today on Change The Subject. She is often misunderstood for aggressive, assertive, and "over the top"...and even mean if you don't understand how to deal with a woman who is fearless of truth or consequence. But if you knew what she been through, your opinion would most definitely shift. As well as help you understand women like her.Tough Cookie, which is my perspective of her (and today's topic title) deals with the women that we tend to overlook as men. the woman who is naturally tough skinned. The woman who protects everybody, including herself...BY HERSELF. We assume a lot of women's strength, and take for granted that there is still a need there for you to fulfill...even though she appears to be handling things very well. We talked about how she grew up in the Bronx, and how the church steered her in the direction of the streets. Because yes...the church fails to protect our women as well. From there, we adapt to how she developed into the woman she is today. Her everyday existence is a learning lesson. Something as simple as taking the train will teach you life lessons. All of which she discussed here. She tackles the disconnection with men, in terms of strong alpha women. Why it seems that strong women make men feel emasculated or inferior. We talk about how she parents, submit, and dominate in all the spaces of her life. She explains the struggle of knowing when to take off her superhero cape and just be...because being Hype is hard. Lastly, she tells me the unapologetic truth about how we can make women's lives easier, without feeling intimidated or unsure of yourself. You can learn something here. We can learn to love our strong women a lot better. Tune In an tell me what you think.

She is also co-creator at the Anti-Diet Riot Club and an emotional resilience trainer with Tough Cookie. You can find Harri's website online at https://www.harrirose.com/ (https://www.harrirose.com/) Fav quotes from this episode: “I thought by now I would have all my shit together!’ “It’s a bit hard, isn’t it, this adulting stuff” “A lot of the trauma that happens around food happens at home” “We need to give ourselves permission to enjoy this festive tradition of feasting… it’s normal, it’s Christmas!” “Food doesn’t have to be hard” “There’s no perfect diet” “You need a rebel attitude to bust out of diet culture and the unrealistic expectations of what we should be looking like!” “I’m an adult but… time-keeping is hard! I’m perpetually late” In this episode we talk about: The impact that breakups and other major life transitions can have on your long term happiness and becoming a more authentic version of yourself That major decisions don’t have to last a lifetime! Life is long and we are allowed to change. Why there doesn’t seem to be a boundary with family members when it comes to making comments about body image, and why it’s worth making coping plans for the Christmas period when you’re likely to come into contact with people who make these comments. How it’s people’s own projections of body confidence and beauty that causes them to make comments and assumptions about your relationship with food, diet and your body. That the ‘thin ideal’ is just one standard of beauty, but that it controls so much of what we think and do. How the process and journey to making peace with food isn’t easy, but it is possible. “Fat” isn’t a feeling - if you are feeling “Fat”, it could be that you are feeling sad, you are feeling sluggish. It’s important to establish what the underlying feelings are. Plus, we talk about how gentle movement STILL COUNTS when it comes to improving health and wellbeing, and that you don’t need to be “smashing it” in terms of exercise to see and feel the benefits.
