Aaron Bare, the Herozona Foundation co-founder, speaks about how military veterans work well with the HeroZona Foundation. In short, they understand the organization.“The veterans that we work with and have worked with in the past, they understand how the organization works,” says Bare. “They understand how to make decisions. They understand how to move things forward. They understand projects. If everything's in a project in the world that I live in, you take a veteran and you move them into a system that very much has rules. Here's what you need to do to accomplish those goals, and once you accomplish them, then you go to the next stage. Veterans succeed very well on that.”“The David Johnson Show” is the veteran talk show and podcast with a national voice for our American military and veteran subculture. Florida Matters host Robin Sussingham recently moderated a community discussion about veteran entrepreneurs with professionals who've been working on training and educating former soldiers on skills they need, not only to integrate back into society, but to take on the risks and rewards of being an entrepreneur. The panel took place in front of a live audience at USF St. Petersburg, and we also took some questions from the audience. In this podcast, you'll hear about American Freedom Distillery and from one of its founders, former Green Beret Scott Neil. Support for Florida Matters More comes from the National Foundation for Transplants. Right now, hundreds of Tampa residents need an organ transplant they can not afford. Join National Foundation for Transplants, an organization providing financial relief to transplant patients for more than 35 years. Visit transplants.org to learn more.
If you were going to reverse the failure rate of small business, how would you do it? Over recent decades, according to the US Small Business Administration, only 30% of new ventures survive past their tenth birthday. That is a travesty. There are tremendous resources available that could help most companies survive and thrive. Why don't they? In many cases, it's simply a matter of a new entrepreneur's emotion and not having any idea what they don't know. In other words, the new small business owner has plenty of enthusiasm with which to launch the venture, but not enough understanding and knowledge to profitably survive. Veterans are a group that statistically tend to be more successful. What if you could tap into the experiences of veterans from earlier combat generations, like Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm, and teach their post-war learning from the entrepreneurial trenches to new veterans? Then suppose you could document their experiences and bundle them with the best training across America and streamline it's availability? Could you reverse the failure rate? We think so...
