Hello Therese, we're back for our annual holiday extravaganza. This year we're movie-clubbing Todd Haynes' very luscious and very gay Carol (2015), starring Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, and Sarah Paulson. We discuss the erotic imagery of merely a glove, lesbian sex scenes through the lens of a gay man, and the joy in watching flat male characters (what even IS Jake Lacy's character's name?). All that Carol talk for you plus our reactions to the Golden Globe nominations, our dream casting of Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Emma Stone as Pearl Bailey and Carol Channing in a future film, and some Muppet talk. And then…we give you a solid ten minutes on our theory that gay men hate all gay male things while lesbians are much more accepting, our trip down memory lane to remember “lesbian kiss episodes” during November sweeps, the legacy of Roseanne, and Natalie Zea hunting down Kimberly Pierce for the Boys Don't Cry short she starred in!  Anyway, happy holidays! Do you think Linda Perry and Sara Gilbert watched Carol together? This week Val and Rachel discuss two radio workplace sitcoms from different eras: Newsradio and WKRP in Cincinnati.  NewsRadio is an American sitcom television series that aired on NBC from March 21, 1995 to May 4, 1999, focusing on the work lives of the staff of a New York City AM news radio station. It had an ensemble cast featuring Dave Foley, Stephen Root, Andy Dick, Maura Tierney, Vicki Lewis, Joe Rogan, Khandi Alexander, Jon Lovitz, and Phil Hartman in his final regular role before his death in 1998. WKRP in Cincinnati is an American sitcom television series that features the misadventures of the staff of a struggling fictional radio station in Cincinnati, Ohio. The show was created by Hugh Wilson and was based upon his experiences working in advertising sales at Top 40 radio station WQXI in Atlanta. Many of the characters and even some of the stories (including that of the Season 1 episode "Turkeys Away") are based on people and events at WQXI. Wilson once told The Cincinnati Enquirer that he selected WKRP as the call sign to stand for C-R-A-P.   Hot Topics include: 1.) Gardening & landscaping updates 2.) Time slot shenanigans 3.) Contemporary criticism of Newsradio 4.) The final haunted season after Phil Hartman's death 5.) The kookiest co-workers we've ever had 6.) Bailey and Jennifer: The Ginger and Mary Ann of the 70s 7.) This week at The Tape Store we talk about Roland Emmerich's "Godzilla" (1998). Brooke celebrates this film, and Toby does his best, since this film really throws out the rich and beloved mythology of one of film history's most celebrated monsters. This begs the question of whether or not this film is an actual Godzilla film (Toby says no). We open with a discussion about why mythology is so important to both Godzilla as a character and to the overarching narrative of any Godzilla film. We then get into the 1998 film, where we praise the performances of Matthew Broderick as Dr. Nick Tatopoulos, Jean Reno as the mysterious Phillipe Roache, Hank Azaria as Victor "Animal" Palotti, as well as Vicki Lewis's portrayal of unsung heroine Dr. Elsie Chapman. Other topics include the film's struggle to decide whether to be sympathetic to Godzilla or not, and the problem of Audrey Timmonds (Maria Pitillo).

Join Nathan, Brendan and returning guest Mariah Lirette as they rip apart the 90s American remake of Godzilla. Many things are discussed including the unforgiveable act committed by the film's love interest, the awful CGI in the Madison Square Garden scene, Hank Azaria's Italian character, Mayor Ebert, the French Secret Service not enjoying America and much more.   The guys also drop a hint for next week's movie and it's "going to be... fantastic." Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 65th episode of "VideoFuzzy," reporting the progress I've made in cataloging nearly 2,900 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Burying Bones," I open with my thoughts on protests, division and privilege in the wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. I add a correction from my comments on "Superstore" last time. I then feature the fourth season installment of "Bones," titled "The Skull in the Sculpture" featuring Vicki Lewis of "NewsRadio" as a gallery owner. In Cross Connections, I track Caroline Julian, Whoopi Goldberg, Rich Sommer, Jewel Staite, David Boreanaz and Golden Thread Alan Tudyk. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I talk about "The West Wing," "Mad Men" and a "The Daily Show" list from 2008, "John Kerry Ruins Your Favorite Jokes." In VideoFuzzy at the Movies, I watch "The Disaster Artist," "Joker," "Knives Out" and the FX documentary presentation "A.K.A. Jane Roe." In my Direct-to-DVD Collection, I chat "Motherland: Fort Salem," "Council of Dads" and "Harley Quinn," closing with "Dispatches from Elsewhere."

Episode #135: Newsradio - "Bitch Session" Release Date: January 29, 2019 Patrick and Kat can't believe it has taken them this long to discuss Newsradio, but they are finally there. Newsradio was the critically acclaimed NBC sitcom that invaded the airwaves in the mid-to-late nineties, but never quite made the same impact that Seinfeld, Friends, and Will & Grace made on the general public. Anyway, the series was a vehicle for Dave Foley, but it was the fun ensemble, which included Joe Rogan, Phil Hartman, Vicki Lewis, Stephen Root and Khandi Alexander that added fuel to the fun. Plus, we discuss coming up with fun nicknames for co-workers, Teri Hatcher's dwindling popularity and people not knowing who she is, confusing actors with other actors, and the quest for a Kathy Ireland cardboard cutout.
