Favorite quotes of the episode:  “Most people are saying, ‘Once I get to someplace other than right now, I'll be happy.' And that's where our suffering comes from.” “The key to life is the ability to be able to stay centered with all of it.” “Be an observer of your mind.” “Discomfort is nothing more than an inner vibration…and I don't have to make that feeling go away.” “Pain is part of life, suffering is a choice.” Episode Overview In this episode, I talk with Joanna Kleinman from Dethroning Your Inner Critic to discuss how to dethrone our inner critics! She is a licensed psychotherapist, a national workshop leader, and best-selling author with more than 22 years of experience working in private practice with clients both locally and all over the world via zoom.  She created the online transformational program called “Dethroning Your Inner Critic™, and podcast. It is an approach that centers around her groundbreaking M.I.N.D Method, which consists of examining the habitual and conditioned thoughts and beliefs in our minds that have been playing on a repetitive loop for our whole lives and are as transparent as breathing.  She teaches clients to rewire the automatic hardwiring in their minds, not by changing the conditioned thoughts, but by breaking the habit of giving energy and attention to the conditioned thoughts and beliefs.  The M.I.N.D Method is one-of-a-kind and its foundation is guided by the unconventional idea that you don't need a lifetime to learn, master, and then change the processes of the mind.  Most people try to change the external circumstances of their lives in order to think and feel the contentment and satisfaction they desire.  Her methods focus on changing from the inside out.  This is the type of transformation that leads you to ‘waking up' and viewing the world in a different way. [5Q] Mindfulness is the Key to Success

5 Questions Segment Q1. We know that the most successful and happy people have a morning routine, what do you do each morning or evening that sets your day up for success? I’m a night owl, so I rely on an evening routine.  I make a personal and professional list. We are mindful of people’s time and stick to a schedule.  I don’t multitask.  I practice ‘just this and then’ so I bring my full self to each project. I also give myself some time and space in areas where I need it. Q2. What's your definition of Success? For me, mindfulness is the key to success for me. Someone once shared with me there are three versions of life, the almost, the most and the utmost so I’m always striving for the utmost life. Live in the accomplishments vs. surviving the hours. Q3. What's your definition of Happiness? Happiness is helping people find that spark inside of them. Q4. What do you know now that you wish you would have known 10 years ago? For my personal life I would say that I’m the only person who sets the limits on my life. In my business, I would say that emotional decisions make you weak. There’s a certain level that needs to be involved but it can’t govern decision making. Q5. What do you think is the biggest issue facing busy professionals today? You are either making decisions that are building or destroying.   RESOURCES Connect with Jessica at https://jessicamead.com/ or on Instagram @_jessicamead_ Become a Patron and never miss another insight at https://www.patreon.com/BeyondTheStethoscope   Learn Strategies for Overcoming Overwhelm at https://www.pawsconsulting.com/overwhelm   “This program has been approved for 1 hour of continuing education credit for veterinarians and veterinary nurses/technicians in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.” Sign up for a free Strategy Session to overcome overwhelm and get unstuck at https://www.pawsconsulting.com/podcast  Thinking of running for office?  Get your copy of Candidate Survival Guide or Join one of Angela’s Campaign Accelerator Programs at https://www.pawsconsulting.com/candidate Connect with Angela at www.pawsconsulting.com or on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram @DemareeDVM. Jessica is on a mission to help high-achieving women heal the roots of their emotional eating so they can use food as fuel rather than a way to cope, soothe and attempt to escape their busy, stressful life. From over a decade of research and her own personal emotional eating journey, Jessica consciously created her uniquely effective Escape From Emotional Eating® process and programs because Overeaters Anonymous didn't resonate with her, and the 932 hours she spent in therapy never helped her end her fight with food. Jessica knew there needed to be a different kind of support, one that got to the roots of her emotional eating.   Jessica and her work have received awards from the Institute of Psychology of Eating three years in a row. She has appeared in various media outlets such as ABC, CBS, and MindBodyGreen, just to name a few. TOPICS Emotional Eating is the dirty secret of successful women. I set my day up by doing the hardest stuff first. I love to prioritize my day based on intensity, energy, and what’s that big rock that I can knock off the list first.  Q2. What's your definition of Success? Success for me is my drug of choice when it comes to my work, it’s really about making an impact is what makes me happy professionally and not forgetting to be grateful. Ability to pivot quickly and find a new way to make an impact. Q3. What's your definition of Happiness? Friends, Family, Adventure, Home, Food, Fun. Q4. What do you know now that you wish you would have known 10 years ago? To attack fear head-on and spend as much time as possible outside of my comfort zone. As Branson says, "Say yes and then figure out how." I’ve learned to embrace the jitters and reframe them as butterflies of excitement. Attack those fears right away.  Possibility lives outside your comfort zone not inside. It’s fun to grow and expand and continue to evolve. Q5. What do you think is the biggest issue facing busy professionals today? Enjoying the journey is something I don’t see enough of. They are so caught up in the minutia and pain points and we need to enjoy the journey and not forget about our wellbeing. Play hard, enjoy the journey and stay in a place of gratitude. We know that the most successful and happy people have a morning routine, what do you do each morning or evening that sets your day up for success? I got up at 5:30 today and I just take a minute and check in with myself, what is my heart, my gut telling me? Am I Centered, Open, Resilient, and Energized? It’s time for prayer. Then I’ll have coffee, go for a walk, some exercise and listen to some music or with an app. Journaling and remain open to ideas. Q2. What's your definition of Success? Being happy and feeling fulfilled. It may not come naturally as we are often hard on ourselves. We need people around us to see the good stuff and to be in a place of gratitude. Q3. What's your definition of Happiness? Happiness does not depend on circumstances or happenings. You can choose happiness.  Happiness for me is a sense of wellbeing and joy where my heart is light. Q4. What do you know now that you wish you would have known 10 years ago? I was fearless but not very cautious 10 years ago. The naivety caused me some hardships and lost contracts, I would be a little bit savvier and holding a little back and playing my cards right. Learning to say, "Let me think about that." Q5. What do you think is the biggest issue facing busy professionals today? Burnout. The burnout crisis was the pandemic before the pandemic.  RESOURCES Connect with Anne on LinkedIn or Twitter https://www.annearvizu.com/   Affluent Minds, Book by Dr. Anne Arvizu My FICO Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association https://www.biopharmadive.com/news/female-biotech-ceos-bio-efforts-diversity-goals/558604/ Join our email list and never miss another insight at https://www.pawsconsulting.com/shownotes Learn Strategies for Overcoming Overwhelm at https://www.pawsconsulting.com/overwhelm   “This program has been approved for 1 hour of continuing education credit for veterinarians and veterinary nurses/technicians in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.” Sign up for a free Strategy Session to overcome overwhelm and get unstuck at https://www.pawsconsulting.com/podcast  Thinking of running for office?  Get your copy of Candidate Survival Guide or Join one of Angela’s Campaign Accelerator Programs at https://www.pawsconsulting.com/candidate Connect with Angela at www.pawsconsulting.com or on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram @DemareeDVM.
