Ronald Stevenson (1928–2015) is best remembered for his huge output of music for the piano, an instrument he played with a rare understanding of tonal color. It was thus entirely within character that he responded enthusiastically to the opportunity to explore the musical possibilities of the accordion, most impressively in a ‘Dance Poem' of some scale. Stevenson was also an inveterate transcriber, producing hundreds of piano versions of pieces written for other forces. Neil Sutcliffe here returns the compliment, transcribing one of Stevenson's own piano works and five of his songs for accordion, pulling the classical world and Scottish traditional music a little closer together.TracksThe Harlot's House: Dance Poem after Oscar Wilde (1988) (32:59) Recitation: The Harlot's House (1:58) I. In this week's episode of the AIPT Movies podcast, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss the totally accurate retelling of “Weird Al” Yankovic's rise to fame, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story! How does it compare with other music biopics? If this were a parody (which it clearly isn't), does it harken back to classics like Airplane! and The Naked Gun? Can we trust Madonna? Listen now to find out!In addition to the Weird: The Al Yankovic Story discussion, Alex saw the “two people stuck on a 2,000 foot tower” thriller, Fall, and Matt and Alex both saw Don't Worry Darling. More interestingly, in the process of talking about the movie, they accidentally convince Tim to watch it himself. You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @alexharriscomix. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can't be found on social media because he doesn't exist. This week's chapter is a pretty good example of the straight line getting wiggly in both the TCD sense, and also my life in general. A river quickly becoming a delta. I'll try to explain: Dan S. has a little bit of time on his hands at the same point that he discovers the podcast. He finds his way to the guestbook page of my website, and leaves me a question. As a consequence, Ant finds the question and thinks it will provide the perfect foundation for an episode or two. And so, with a clear-cut brief, in no time at all we're recalling Mick MacNeil's Accordian, Raine Shine, Jim the Canadian busker, George Jackson Jr, Ant's old work-colleague, Andy Gillespie, (Mick and Andy both of Simple Minds fame), John Martin, Tears for Fears, The Portastudio and Jan, the manager at the Moles Club, Bath, letting me in for free. So you see my life is all about the pebble, and then the ripples. But sometimes the thud ...as a threesome of flesh slaps to a climax against my hotel wall. Yee ha!! :o/ There was a mouse in the cat food y'know... h

Can you remember your last normal night out? For me it was March 7, 2020. We saw @spiderstacy & @rockyoriodan of @poguesofficial on their Mid-Atlantic @poguetrylive tour, backed by the @lostbayouramble. Four days later the world shut down and we've been couped up ever since. What was it like to be on tour on those last days? In this episode of For Songs, I chat with Louis Michot, lead singer and fiddler player of @lostbayouramble and @michotsmelody makers, about what happened on those last frantic nights on tour, and then his love and passion for #cajunmusic. We dig into four traditional Cajun songs, including one that blends traditional Cajun and Irish sounds, and three live tracks from the Michot Melody Makers' July 2020 release, Cosmic Cajuns from Saturn. Sit back, grab a drink, and listen to Louis walk you back in time. www.lostbayouramblers.com www.michotsmelodymakers.bandcamp.com http://nouveauelectricrecords.com/

Liz Taylor-McMullen earned her bachelor’s in music education and a master’s in music performance before working for two years as a band director. She’d had to learn quite a few different instruments to teach band. “I was studying to be a band director, and when you do that, you learn how to play all of the band instruments to a certain level of proficiency, because you had to be able to get sixth graders started.” As the band director, a lot of people in a state like Arkansas are often the only music director for an entire school district at times and can be responsible for up to sixty students. “You have to be able to wear a lot of hats,” Liz said. “That’s why I can play a lot of instruments. Because I learned how to learn.” She spent four years more as a choir director before moving into administration at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). “I think I just always knew that I wanted to be a music teacher from the time I was a little girl,” Liz shared. “It just seemed like the natural thing to do. It never really crossed my mind to have another job. And I got the job and I did the job. And once I got to the point where I felt comfortable and knew what I was doing … It was three things. It was the red tape, it was dealing with parents who didn’t appreciate what I was doing and couldn’t see that I was trying really hard, and just feeling like I wasn’t making much of a difference. It wore me down.” Find Lieder Vox Duo on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Lieder-Vox-Duo-102621477815115/ Read the rest: https://hewandweld.com/news/ Sustaining Craft is a passion project of Hew & Weld Writing. This week Colter and Peter hopped on a call with writer, musician, lover of good dogs and fellow southerner, Sean Dietrich of Sean of the South. We talked about the SEC Championship Game, growing up in the south, storytelling, American music history and much more. From Sean's website, https://seandietrich.com:As a child, I liked to write. I filled up notebooks with tales of the high-seas, shameless vixens, and steamy scenarios combining both of the aforementioned. My fifth grade teacher found one of my notebooks and scanned through it. She told me I wrote with too many commas, and encouraged me to pursue a career in construction work. That, old, woman, never, liked, me.Years later, I learned my teacher had left the school. She took a job at the Piggly Wiggly as a cashier. I went to visit the old girl, to show her the man I'd grown into. She seemed genuinely glad to see me. And I was just as glad to find her wearing that red apron for a living. After visiting for a few minutes, I realized something I'd never noticed before. Beneath her hardshell exterior was a regular lady, working from nine to five for pennies. She was doing the best she could with her life. Just like me.Before I left, she asked me what kind of work I did.At the time, I worked in construction.
I still only know the one song. Also we are approached by a Russian hacker!!!!! spooky!!!!

Jason Vieaux and Julien Labro both play instruments that have had historically complex relationships to classical music. Even today, the classical guitar and the bandoneon are a little unorthodox in that world. Maybe that’s why Jason and Julien – and their instruments – are such an obvious fit together. Without easy paths to follow, they’ve made their own and they’ve subsequently both become uniquely musically versatile. They’re also both brood-y and wear sunglasses at night (one imagines). Learn about the classical guitar and the bandoneon, their histories, their repertoires, and what kind of trailblazing Vieaux and Labro are up to on their new CD, Infusion. If you like what you hear in this episode, go see Jason Vieaux in concert with Da Camera of Houston on December 9th! More details here. Music in this episode: “Escualo” by Astor Piazzolla “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears Tres Danzas Concertantes – I. Allegro by Leo Brouwer Audio production by Todd “Tablature” Hulslander with Dacia Clay doing the Madison and assistance from Mark DiClaudio.

Episode #16: In the second installment of our "Gatekeeper's Roundtable," we speak with Ali Hedrick of The Billions Corporation about some of the new acts that she's working with, and how they've come to her, or vice versa. Christen Green adds to the conversation by telling us about how she ended up working with The Lumineers, among the other notable acts that are a part of Onto Entertainment. We also have Nate Nelson tell us the story about how he ended up at Stones Throw Records via the leaked Madvillain demos, and how his experience there ultimately led him to start Innovative Leisure. Don't think for a second that this is a puff piece chock full of "success stories." We dig in, and ask these folks about who they regret passing on, too! Lots of valuable "what not to do" information in this episode. This week on The League Cast, Jen and Dr. Awesome are hanging out with Matthew Dean from Spoodcast. Michael Lothian is on the other side of the table as he and his bandmate Greg Drummond talk about their rockstar experiences. Matthew does a spot-on Nick Cage impression, Greg conveniently forgets the time a girl offered him a very intrusive sexual favour and bump destroys us all. We were treated with an acoustic performance of 'Walking Man' with our own Michael Lothian on accordian. Support local music by checking out Greg Drummond on iTunes

Album Details Album: The Tinkering Ink Peekaboo Album I used doesn’t seem to be in stock anymore. Hopefully you’ll use something you already have anyway but if you’re looking for a mini with shapes punched out like mine, the closest thing I can find to it is this one, which is on clearance right now. Album Color: By experimenting, I got a lovely mottled yellow on my pages that reminds me of colored Easter eggs. You know how colored eggs never come out smooth and perfect like they do on the cover of magazines?. I love the uneven colored-eggs look on my pages. Here’s how I got it: * Painted 2 layers of Golden’s Gesso. (You could try white acrylic paint if you don’t have gesso). * Sprayed a layer of Lemon Meringue Glimmer Mist and blended it in. * Spritzed some uneven splotches of Lemon Grass Glimmer Mist. I rubbed the Lemon Grass with my blending tool. The foam applicator left a lot of “bubbling” in the mist, I think because of the gesso, and then set the bubbles and splotches with a heat tool. Handmade flowers: I made my large turquoise flower out of Tim Holtz Grunge Board. To color the petals I painted two layers of gesso, then sprayed and dried multiple layers of Patina Glimmer Mist. It turns out that the gesso was not holding the Patina dye color, so it came out light, although very beautifully glimmery. Liz Hicks from Tattered Angels suggested using Making Memories Spotlight acrylic paint on chipboard or grunge board if you want the dye color to show more vibrantly. The tiny paper flowers and the large flower were inspired by the artist, Alisa Burke. The orange paperclipped flower is from Paperclipping Episode #118, which is now archived, but available to our Members.
ahhhh, to have flowers that bloom with rice

Louisiana-based Cajun music has roots in unaccompanied, narrative ballads brought by European settlers. Sung at weddings and funerals as well as informal parties, these ballads told stories of love and death, humor and nostalgia. Cajun songs, traditionally sung in French, fused narrative balladry, Irish and Anglo-American reels and jigs, and Black and Native American folk traditions. The earliest instrument that typified Cajun music was the fiddle. In dance halls and house parties called fais-do-dos, two fiddlers performed together-the lead playing melody, the other playing back-up. The powerful accordion sound soon joined the twin fiddles along with percussion inspired by Creole music. In the 1930s and 1940s, steel guitars, mandolins, and banjos entered the scene, bringing a country-western swing to Cajun music. (This strong country influence differentiates Cajun music from the closely aligned zydeco music.) The Cajun bands of today are incorporating electric guitars and amplified instruments, proving that the Cajun sound is continuing to evolve.
