Renaissance is a band with a rich history unique to themselves as progressive rock pioneers who rose from the ashes of the seminal UK rock band, The Yardbirds. The band has toured throughout the world and has performed at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Chorale Society. Renaissance had a top ten hit in the UK with their song “Northern Lights” that still demands airplay to this day. It is no surprise that Pearl Jam was under intense pressure to follow up their debut album "Ten" with another success.  What may be surprising is that the band's second studio album, Vs. (pronounced "versus") did indeed live up to the success for their debut.  Vs. started at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart, sold almost a million copies in its first five days, and in its first week outperformed all other albums in the top 10 combined.Pearl Jam did a number of things differently with this album.  First, they recorded the songs one at a time, setting up the band in a similar way to their live concerts, and mixing each song as they went.  Second, the songs created were more raw and powerful than those on their first album.  Front man Eddie Vedder even began sleeping in his truck and in the sauna at the recording studio to keep up the intensity.  Finally, the band deliberately did NOT make videos for any of the songs on this album, preferring to let the listeners visualize the songs rather than have that creativity removed by the presence of a video.This album also marks a change in the approach the band took to its tours, avoiding the press and focusing directly on the fans.  In addition to refusing to make videos, they dramatically scaled down television appearances, and capped the prices of their tickets to make their concerts more accessible to fans.Guest contributor Joe Davis brings us this outstanding album.   GoMany interpret this first single and lead-off track from the album to be about child abuse, though Eddie Vedder hinted that it was about his truck breaking down on him! AnimalThe opening lyrics "one, two, three, four, five against one" reflect the originally planned title of the album (Five Against One), and the idea that the five members of the band are up against the machine of the music industry.  The album would eventually be called "Vs." instead.Glorified G  Joe picked this song for the first two lines:  "Got a gun, fact I got two.  That's OK, man, 'cause I love God."  The lyrics come from an argument that Eddie Vedder had with drummer Dave Abbruzzese when Dave brought a gun he bought to rehearsal one day.  Dave was from Texas, where guns were more common, while Vedder hated guns.Rearviewmirror  Eddie Vedder wrote this song about his stepfather, whom he hated.  It was about leaving him behind without a second thought. This is a fast-paced song, and Joe recommends it for your running playlist. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme from the BBC television special "Mr. Blobby"The television Christmas special was on the charts in the UK in November 1993.  It was panned by critics and almost everyone else as it can be found as the WORST theme song ever...yet it topped the UK charts.   STAFF PICKS:Everybody Hurts by R.E.M.Brian begins the staff picks with a slower and positive song from the album “Automatic for the People.”  This track is an anti-suicide song, encouraging people to hold on when things go wrong, because everybody hurts sometimes.Into Your Arms by The LemonheadsRob brings us a hit off the album “Come On, Feel The Lemonheads.”  The band was originally from Boston, with Evan Dando on lead vocals and guitar, Ben Deily on vocals and guitar, and Jesse Peretz on bass.  This album was a follow-up to their hugely successful album ”It's a Shame About Ray.”Carry On by AngraBruce rocks out with a song off the Brazilian heavy metal band's debut album “Angels Cry.”  It encourages you to...well...carry on.  “So carry on, there' a meaning to life which someday we may find.  And carry on, it's time to forget the remains from the past, to carry on.”The Man Who Sold the World by Nirvana Joe finishes off the staff picks with Nirvana's MTV Unplugged  cover of the David Bowie song.  The song lyrics are about a man who is surprised to meet a personality of himself that he thought he had left behind years ago. COMEDY TRACK:Bohemian Polka by Weird Al YankovicWeird Al stays surprisingly faithful to the original lyrics, but with a polka twist on the music.

Às vésperas de completar 30 anos de fundação, o Angra se encontrava com uma formação muito diferente das que fizeram seus álbuns mais famosos. O guitarrista Kiko Loureiro, que estava na banda desde o Angels Cry, foi para o Megadeth, sendo substituído por Marcelo Barbosa (ex Almah e Khalice). O vocalista Fabio Lione (ex Rhapsody) agora parece que realmente faz parte da banda, já que é o segundo disco que ele grava com o Angra. Também no segundo álbum com a banda, o jovem talento da bateria Bruno Valverde. De veteranos restaram apenas o baixista Felipe Andreoli e o guitarrista Rafael Bittencourt, único membro fundador restante. O grande destaque do Ømni é a música "Black Widow's Web", com participações das cantoras Sandy e Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy). Biografía Desde muy pequeño empezó a mostrar interés por la música. A los diez años empezó a tocar el piano mostrando gran interés por los compositores clásicos antes de interesarse por el heavy metal, dejándose influenciar por los grandes compositores como Beethoven, Chopin y Mozart, para luego adentrarse en el mundo del rock, una vez que se deja llevar por las corrientes lideradas por Iron Maiden, Kate Bush, Manowar, Peter Gabriel, Sagrado Coração da Terra, Rush y Queensrÿche. Tres años después, decide asistir al famoso Rock in Río, y es a partir de ahí que Andre Matos decide dedicar su vida al heavy metal. Trayectoria musical Desde los 14 años se introdujo en la escena musical de Brasil con su actuación como vocalista de Viper, lo que luego lo condujo por distintos grupos, siendo Angra uno de los más i 1985-1991: Viper En 1985 se unió al grupo de heavy metal Viper, grabando dos años más tarde su primer álbum en estudio denominado Soldiers Of Sunrise con un Andre Matos de 16 años que empezaba a abrirse paso en la escena del metal brasileño. En 1987 Viper sacó su segundo álbum de estudio llamado Theatre Of Fate, mostrando a un Andre Matos mucho más maduro vocal y musicalmente que en su placa anterior, dejando claramente estampada, y por primera vez en su carrera sus raíces clásicas, las cuales se manifestarán en sus trabajos posteriores. En 1991 decidió abandonar el grupo para dedicarse a sus estudios superiores de música clásica.4? 1991-1999: Angra En 1991 pasó a formar parte del grupo Angra junto a Rafael Bittencourt y Kiko Loureiro en guitarras, Luis Mariutti en bajo y Marco Antunes en batería, lanzando su primer demo titulado Reaching Horizons, conteniendo un esquema de lo que sería el álbum que le sucedería. En 1993 Angra lanza al mercado el álbum más exitoso de su carrera, Angels Cry. En este álbum Marco Antunes deja la banda, siendo reemplazado por Ricardo Confessori en batería, aunque el disco es grabado en calidad de sesionista por Alex Holzwarth, baterista de la banda Sieges Even; y se une el teclista Leck Filho para interpretar las instrumentaciones compuestas por Matos en los conciertos. Con esta formación Angra seguiría su camino hasta 1999. Angels Cry contó con la participación de artistas como Kai Hansen y Dirk Schlächter de Gamma Ray y Sascha Paeth de Heaven's Gate, siendo uno de los discos más ambiciosos para una banda debutante. A pesar de esto, Angels Cry recibió una gran cantidad de premios por parte de revistas especializadas en el género y lanzó a Angra a la escena del metal mundial, siendo alabado por la crítica especializada en toda la escena mundial. La gira de Angels Cry llevó a Angra a tocar junto a grupos como Black Sabbath, Slayer y Kiss, lo que aumentó aún más su reconocimiento a nivel mundial. En 1994, Andre Matos consigue su diploma en la universidad luego de la composición y dirección de una orquesta sinfónica, mientras que Angra lanza un EP titulado Evil Warning, cuyo contenido consta en su mayoría de remixes de canciones de Angels Cry En 1995 la banda se encierra en un rancho en las afueras de São Paulo para la confección de su nuevo álbum. De las grabaciones hechas en aquella granja sale a la luz un demo tape llamado Eyes Of Christ, que sería la maqueta del que sería el segundo LP de Angra, que finalmente vería la luz en 1996 con el nombre de Holy Land. El álbum vende más de 200 000 copias y llena los conciertos. En el mismo año sacan a la venta el EP Freedom Call, donde aparecen temas de su maqueta remasterizados y alguna que otra curiosidad como el cover de Judas Priest, "Painkiller". Debido al gran éxito de Angra, duplican la duración de la gira pasando por Francia, donde graban un disco en directo llamado Holy Live en 1997. Un año después aparece el EP Lisbon, un aperitivo de lo que será su tercer álbum Fireworks, donde se da un cambio al estilo respecto de sus anteriores álbumes. Fireworks explora diversas corrientes musicales, distanciándose de sus predecesores en cuanto al estilo. En el mismo año aparece el EP Rainy Nights, siendo este el último disco de la banda con Andre, Luis y Ricardo, ya que estos, debido a diferencias con el resto de la banda y la productora, abandonan el grupo al final de la gira. 2000-2005: Shaman Luego de su salida de Angra, formó la banda Shaman junto con sus compañeros Luis Mariutti y Ricardo Confessori. Más tarde se une como guitarrista el hermano de Luis, Hugo Mariutti. Matos también aprovecha este periodo para grabar un proyecto que tenía pendiente con su amigo Sascha Paeth (guitarra de Heaven's Gate), juntos forman el dúo Virgo y graban su primer y único álbum homónimo, un disco de estilo hard rock que explora horizontes nunca antes tocados por Andre. El grupo Shaman saca a la venta su disco Ritual en 2002, y empieza el Ritual World Tour, que durará casi un año y medio. Recorren todo el mundo y graban un disco y un DVD en directo en 2003 llamado Ritualive. A finales de marzo de 2005, lanzan su segundo álbum de estudio titulado Reason donde el piano de Matos acapara gran parte del protagonismo. A pesar de ello, el baterista de la banda Shaman anunció el 10 de octubre la ruptura de la misma en la fansite. 2006-2019: Andre solista Andre Matos inició la grabación de un disco solista con la colaboración de Sascha Paeth y otros artistas de renombre. A mediados de 2006 tuvo el honor de interpretar el papel principal de la opera rock Tommy escrita por The Who, en una serie de presentaciones realizadas en Sao Paulo junto a una orquesta sinfónica. Time to be Free fue el nombre del nuevo lanzamiento de Matos como solista.10? En esta nueva aventura musical del vocalista lo acompañan Luis Mariutti en el bajo, Hugo Mariutti en la guitarra, Fabio Ribeiro (antiguo ex teclista de Angra en vivo), y dos nuevas incorporaciones que tocaron con Matos al inicio de su carrera cuando grabó a los 15 años de edad su primer disco con Viper, su primera banda, en 1987. Ellos son André Hernandes en la guitarra y Eloy Casagrande, un joven baterista de solo 16 años en la batería. Todos estos músicos fueron guiados en su trabajo por dos productores, el habitual Sascha Paeth (Heavens Gate, Virgo, Shaman) y Roy Z (Bruce Dickinson, Halford, Helloween, Judas Priest). Participó además de la grabación la vocalista Amanda Somerville aportando algunas voces femeninas. Mentalize de 2009 y The Turn of the Lights de 2012 fueron sus siguientes producciones discográficas como solista. Fallecimiento El 8 de junio de 2019 fue anunciado el fallecimiento de Matos, aunque inicialmente no se divulgó la causa.4? Ricardo Confessori, compañero de Matos en varios de sus proyectos musicales, confirmó la noticia: «Es con profundo dolor en nuestros corazones que nos despedimos de Andre, esta vez en forma definitiva».4? Más adelante se confirmó que el músico falleció a causa de un paro cardíaco. Time, el tercer tema de Angels Cry el álbum debut de la banda brasileña Angra, grabado en Alemania y lanzado en 1993. In a nameless time, el tema inicial del disco Lingua Mortis, el décimo álbum de la banda alemana Rage, lanzado a mediados de 1996. Es la primera colaboración de la banda con la Orquesta Sinfónica de Praga y consiste principalmente en versiones sinfónicas de su anterior disco, Black in Mind

An amazingly talented songwriter, Crystal Nicole is responsible for creating #1 hit songs and the Grammy Award winning song “Only Girl in the World” by Rihanna.  She’s inked records for several other well known artists including Mariah Carey (“Touch My Body”, “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time”, “Angels Cry”), Beyonce (Scared of Lonely), Monica (Love All Over Me), and Mary J. Blige (25/8).  Among others, she has also worked with Janet Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, and Jennifer Lopez. Born with the gift of writing and song, Crystal Nicole has proven her talent time and time again.  Known for her ability to identify and relate to others, she credits her songwriting skills to being able to narrate and examine others life experiences.  Signed to Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def/EMI in 2007 as a songwriter, she was finally given the big break she had been long awaiting for.  It was there that her career began to take off and she became one of the most sought after songwriters in the music industry. Crystal Nicole is currently signed to Blackground/Interscope as an artist and is hard at work on her own solo project, scheduled to be released later this year. Aside from her music endeavors, Crystal Nicole has made it a priority to give back to her community.
