Parker Kane—beatboxer and motivational speaker—was facing a deep mental health crisis in college. He wanted to be a professional musician but couldn't seem to find success. Parker slipped into a deep depression. Then, at his lowest point, he got a call from a friend inviting him out for a late-night run to McDonald's. Parker didn't feel up to it and almost said “no.” But that night at McDonald's led to an experience that changed his life and jumpstarted his career. In this episode Parker talks about navigating mental health struggles, the importance of staying open to unexpected opportunities, and how he uses his story has inspire and motivate others. Shodekeh Talifero is a beatboxer, composer, and “breath artist.” Before he hits the Broad Stage this weekend, he's teaching Santa Monica College students about breath and movement. Former LA Mayor Richard Riordan died this week. The businessman-turned-politician led LA after the Rodney King uprisings and through the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

Meet Harry Yeff, a London-born neuro-divergent artist and technologist specializing in voice and the expression of voice across disciplines, contexts, technology, and media. While his research in human and A.I. collaboration started in 2016, Harry has a lifelong obsession with self-improvement and with the evolution of the human voice, and how far he can push his own. With over 100M views on YouTube, his accolades are many and include being a world-renowned beatboxer and a guest lecturer at Harvard University.  In the interview, Harry shares how he collaborates with companies like Bell Labs and trained their A.I. machines with his vocals to then beatbox with his “second self.” We also explore his digital VOICE GEMS project, how he sees art as ceremony for the human spirit, and so many more fascinating insights into his creative process with artificial intelligence. Theologian and monk Thomas Merton once wrote, “The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Pour parler de sa pratique, iel privilégie l'emploi du terme anglais et neutre "beatboxer". Né·e à Porto, Inês de son vrai nom, compose des chansons à la guitare, écrit de la poésie et rappe dès l'enfance. À l'âge de 13 ans, iel découvre le beatbox grâce à Robinho, un candidat de l'émission portugaise La Nouvelle Star. Fasciné·e par sa performance, et la capacité du corps humain à produire des sons, iel se met à regarder un grand nombre de vidéos de beatbox, de rap et de danse hip hop sur internet et apprend les bases du beatboxing de manière autodidacte.  Inês déménage ensuite à Paris, passe son bac et poursuit des études pour devenir psychologue. Mais le beatbox la rattrape et en 2017, iel s'inscrit aux championnats de France in extremis. À l'occasion, Prichia, qui était son pseudo de gameuse en ligne, devient son nom de scène.  En 2020, Prichia remporte le championnat de France de beatbox en catégorie solo et devient une référence dans le milieu.
