Chrissy and Andrea go way back to the early days of calling out Trump's ties to Russia when doing so earned us hit pieces, smears, and even being called CIA agents or Russian spies, depending on who was yelling. In this episode, we dig into everything: Russia's anti-gay propaganda laws (and why Trump proudly ignored the global boycott to host Miss Universe there in 2013), the dismantling of American public education, and why Christian nationalism is not just a domestic threat; it's a global movement. Chrissy breaks down how the Christian Right has long operated its own post-truth disinformation ecosystem and how the fear of hell was used as an emotional bludgeon to control kids like her, until her queer awakening in Russia at age 33. Jamison Coppola, Government Relations Director for American Association of Christian Schools, and host Dr. Matt Davis unite in this informative episode of OnMission to probe a topic of obvious mutual concern—religious liberty, especially as it relates to Christian education and traditionally-held Christian principles. They explain the implausibility of legislators and staff predicting all ramifications of proposed bills, especially with unknown modifications in the amendment process, and why this necessitates vigilant advocates. Using the proposed school choice bill, they illustrate how advocates can assure explicit language in a bill to protect interests. They discuss public policy, fluctuations in administrations, the vanishing of “common ground,” and the unfettered rapid rise of animosity across the “ideological spectrum” that collides with age-old Christian values and labels them “radical.” They conclude with an encouraging look at the “massive shift” toward homeschooling and growing options for private education.

Full Text of ReadingsMonday of the Fifth Week of Lent Lectionary: 251The Saint of the day is Saint John Baptist de La SalleSaint John Baptist de La Salle's Story Complete dedication to what he saw as God's will for him dominated the life of John Baptist de La Salle. In 1950, Pope Pius XII named him patron of schoolteachers for his efforts in upgrading school instruction. As a young 17th-century Frenchman, John had everything going for him: scholarly bent, good looks, noble family background, money, refined upbringing. At the early age of 11, he received the tonsure and started preparation for the priesthood, to which he was ordained at 27. He seemed assured then of a life of dignified ease and a high position in the Church. But God had other plans for John, which were gradually revealed to him in the next several years. During a chance meeting with Monsieur Adrien Nyel, he became interested in the creation of schools for poor boys in Rheims, where he was stationed. Though the work was extremely distasteful to him at first, he became more involved in working with the deprived youths. Once convinced that this was his divinely appointed mission, John threw himself wholeheartedly into the work, left home and family, abandoned his position as canon at Rheims, gave away his fortune, and reduced himself to the level of the poor to whom he devoted his entire life. The remainder of his life was closely entwined with the community of religious men he founded, the Brothers of the Christian School (also called Christian Brothers or De La Salle Brothers). This community grew rapidly and was successful in educating boys of poor families, using methods designed by John. It prepared teachers in the first training college for teachers and also set up homes and schools for young delinquents of wealthy families. The motivating element in all these endeavors was the desire to become a good Christian. Yet even in his success, John did not escape experiencing many trials: heart-rending disappointment and defections among his disciples, bitter opposition from the secular schoolmasters who resented his new and fruitful methods, and persistent opposition from the Jansenists of his time, whose moral rigidity and pessimism about the human condition John resisted vehemently all his life. Afflicted with asthma and rheumatism in his last years, he died on Good Friday at age 68, and was canonized in 1900. Reflection Complete dedication to one's calling by God, whatever it may be, is a rare quality. Jesus asks us to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30b, emphasis added). Paul gives similar advice: “Whatever you do, do from the heart…” (Colossians 3:23). In 2019, two pastors from my church approached me with a request: would I be willing to create a foundation or endowment to raise money for the Christian school our church operates? Without hesitation, I said yes. Both of my children had attended the school, and it had a profound impact on our family. There may be new concerning legal precedents forcing Christian Schools to include woke gender ideology. John-Henry Westen speaks with Jack Fonseca from Campaign Life Coalition about the case of Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) trustee Michael Del Grande. Del Grande has faced significant backlash since 2019 for opposing the inclusion of gender identity and gender expression in the school board's code of conduct, a move mandated by the Ontario Minister of Education.Del Grande attempted to challenge this policy by facetiously proposing the inclusion of other behaviours considered sinful by the Catholic Church, such as bestiality and polygamy, to highlight the absurdity of the changes. This led to an intense backlash, with media campaigns accusing him of promoting hate and legal action within the board to remove him. Despite initially being found not guilty of misconduct, a second, controversial vote reversed the decision, leading to sanctions against him.Del Grande took legal action, challenging the decision in Ontario courts, but has faced setbacks due to what Fonseca describes as judicial bias. He has since appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada, with Campaign Life Coalition crowdfunding his legal fees.
