[RE-UPLOAD FROM JUN. 23, 2020]In this episode Andrea Glassmire and Kayleigh Hauri talk with a collaborative research group from Louisiana State University and the LSU Ag Center – Rodrigo Diaz, James Cronin, Laura Meyerson, Tracy Meyerson, Xuelian Meng, John Nyman, Ana Salgado, and Joshua Snook. They are collaborating on a project examining the mechanisms causing the die-off of an important wetland grass system, Phragmites australis, that stabilizes the Louisiana coastline. The Phragmites die-off is a multi-faceted problem, and each collaborator is investigating different aspects of this die-off. The restoration of Phragmites is an applied ecological challenge that will be important for stabilizing the Louisiana coastline, and the only way to accomplish this is using basic research to understand what the mechanisms are.The Phragmites research team includes additional scientists studying the role of plant pathogens, soil microbes, plant volatiles, and Asian parasitoids. Customs now has two remote controlled vessels to help combat drug smuggling around our coastline. Tahi and Rua were launched yesterday and can be at sea for up to 100 days using renewable energy. A recent Government report shows Customs seized 55 kilograms worth of methamphetamine in 2015 - now 90 kilos gets stopped every week. Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Federation Chief Executive Sherelle Kennelly told Ryan Bridge the boats are an important addition. Plastic Pollution along Australian coastlines decreases by 39 per cent, through the overall awareness and action of inhabitants.
Plastic pollution along Australia's coastline has dropped by more than a third over the last decade. That's according to new research from Australia's national science agency CSIRO, published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin. The CSIRO has found a 39 per cent decrease in coastal debris density compared to ten years ago with just over 8000 debris items recorded across almost 2000 surveys.

Distilling Process The process of each bottle is crucial for us. We use the finest grains sourced from Texas farmers to create our whiskey. We start by milling the grains and adding water to make a mash. This mash is then fermented using our specially selected yeast, which converts the sugars into alcohol.Once the fermentation process is complete, our Texas whiskey is distilled twice to ensure maximum purity and quality.
