Mike Joens put his faith in Jesus Christ while in the Marines. He went on to become a successful animator and has now created a series for children. (click for more)It was a dramatic turn in his life in 1972 when Mike Joens became a Christian while serving in Naples, Italy. For the next several years, he worked for studios such as Hanna Barbera, Filmation, Warner Brothers and Marvel Productions. He worked as an animator, storyboard artist, character designer and writer, honing his skills on every level, while learning the nuts and bolts of cartoon production. Mike's dream all along was to create an animated series for children that would teach God's Word. That happened with the production of Theo Presents, available on DVD here.Next Week:  Quentin SchultzeSend your support for FIRST PERSON to the Far East Broadcasting Company:FEBC National Processing Center Far East Broadcasting CompanyP.O. Send us a Text Message. My family and I are currently on a road trip to northern Kentucky to visit the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter, both of which are owned and operated by Answers in Genesis, the ministry founded and led by Ken Ham, which boldly proclaims the authority of God's Word and the gospel. We have been conducting interviews with Ken and several others during the visit that we are going to air next week on the program. In fact, later in today's program, we are going to air a portion of one interview with Bryan Osborne, an author and popular speaker for Answers in Genesis that we did on site at the Ark Encounter following his presentation on the global flood detailed in Genesis 6-9.Before we get to that, we are going to air an interview our longer-time listeners may remember from back in 2016 with Michael Joens, an animator and creator of Theo, a 15-episode series dedicated to teaching children God's Word and the gospel.Joens is a highly credentialed animator, having worked for studios such as Hanna Barbera, Filmation, Warner Brothers and Marvel Productions.Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.“What are “these words” that are to be on our hearts and taught diligently to our children?  Biblical doctrines—truths about God and how we are to live and worship Him.But how?  How can we teach biblical truths or doctrines to children? One excellent way is through an animated cartoon series called Theo.  Our guest this weekend on The Christian Worldview is Michael Joens, the creator and director of Theo, a 15-episode animated cartoon series that we highly recommend and are offering to listeners. The production and teaching of biblical doctrines in Theo is of the highest quality and we encourage you to preview and order the series for your children and grandchildren.  You will enjoy and learn too!--------------------------Related LinksTHEO - Volume 1, "God's Love" for a donation of any amount.THEO - Full 5-DVD Set for a donation of $50 or moreCreation Museum and Ark Encounter

Stresses positive role models, teaching children cooperation and staying out of trouble. Kid 'n Play is a 1990 animated cartoon series based on the real-life hip hop duo Kid 'n Play. It ran for one season on NBC from September 8 to December 8, 1990. On the show, Kid 'n Play were portrayed as teenagers, along with their friend Jazzy, their producer Hurbie and their DJ Wiz, but their recording careers remained the same as in real life, as did their character traits. Production was by Marvel Productions and Saban Entertainment. The real Kid 'n Play appeared in live-action wraparounds of the cartoons, but voice actors took over for the animated versions of the duo. The show stressed positive role models, teaching children how to get along with each other and stay out of trouble. Akin to the House Party films, Play was the less responsible member of the duo, cooking up get rich quick schemes, while Kid, the more responsible member, would usually be made to clean up messes. Oftentimes the issue would be resolved by the characters' girlfriends, or sometimes by an elderly jazz musician who wore a blue beret and was aptly named "Old Blue". Also along the crew is Kid's Mohawk pet dog Hairy. The lessons ranged from serious to lighter fare. One of the "less serious" episodes dealt with Kid's father under the impression hip hop is bad and Kid not having the means to put it in a positive light. Old Blue offers to help by sending Kid on a trip back in time to the era of jazz and 1920s speakeasies to help better understand its roots. Barbie and Little Women director Greta Gerwig has signed on to direct at least two Chronicles of Narnia movies for Netflix. The streaming giant signed an agreement with the C.S. Lewis Company in 2018 to develop the beloved series into movies and shows. Over 1,000 high profile actors signed a letter committing to strike if negotiations fall through between the screen actors guild and studios and streamers. This looming strike threatens to deepen the rift in Hollywood between studios and talent and would grind the entire industry to a halt more so than the writers strike already has. Though many Marvel Productions have been halted or pushed back, that hasn't stopped the future of the Cinematic Universe continuing to take form. Speaking as a guest in the JW3 Speaker Series, star Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed that he will return as Doctor Strange to film scenes for an upcoming Marvel film that is set to start filming "next year:" Additionally,  industry scoopers are reporting rumors that Margot Robbie has turned down the role of Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four film and the role has now been offered to Vanessa Kirby. The latest - and perhaps last - Indiana Jones movie, Dial of Destiny, didn't quite hit its benchmarks at the box office, bringing in $60 million domestically and $130 million globally in its first weekend July movies are projected to heat up the Box Office, with the Barbie movie pre-sales already outperforming The Little Mermaid. And Oppenheimer is projecting a conservative $50 million opening Evan Peters has closed a deal to star in the upcoming movie Tron: Ares, the third installment of the franchise. During an interview with Inverse, Anthony Mackie revealed that he contacted Marvel Studios several times and even wrote letters in the early 2010s about playing Black Panther in an early Marvel film. An executive for Mattel Films spoke to the New Yorker about upcoming films, including an 'A24-type surrealistic" Barney film with Daniel Kaluuya saying, “We're leaning into the Millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids. It's really a play for adults. Not that it's R-rated, but it'll focus on some of the trials and tribulations of being 30-something, growing up with Barney—just the level of disenchantment within the generation.”

[School of Everything Else 2023] As the new movie approaches, Sharon and I journey back to one of our favourite childhood animated shows. Beginning in 1983, this was a joint collaboration between Toei Animation in Japan, Marvel Productions in America and DND Entertainment.  It was an attempt to string a loose narrative together of a bunch of teenagers transported to a mythical realm full of D&D scenarios, and being given roles in an adventuring party. It was made at a time when everything was episodic and self-contained, performances were insanely earnest and we all learned valuable morals about not judging by appearances.  But ultimately, what kept us coming back was a strange sick sort of desperation to see the kids get back home at last... That they never did lends this show a melancholy yet hopeful tone which captured our young hearts. Many thanks to our enthusiastic guest, who is younger than us, but caught the show in reruns in the early 2000s. Guest: Nama Chibitty @namathenerd

PLOT SYNOPSIS & DISCUSSION MIKEY - Hank, Bobby, Eric, Presto, Diana, Sheila, and Uni. Dungeons & Dragons is an American animated television series based on TSR's Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. A co-production of Marvel Productions and TSR, the show originally ran from 1983 through 1985 for three seasons on CBS for a total of twenty-seven episodes. The Japanese company Toei Animation did the animation for the series. The show focused on a group of six friends who are transported into the titular realm and followed their adventures as they tried to find a way home with the help of their guide the Dungeon Master. A final unproduced episode would have served as both a conclusion to the story as well as a re-imagining of the show had the series been picked up for a fourth season; however, the show was canceled before the episode was made. The script has since been published online and was performed as an audio drama as a special feature for the BCI Eclipse DVD edition of the series. Watch “The Dragon's Graveyard” on YouTube. Watch “Requiem”, the final unreleased episode. In July 1997, Loesch was appointed vice chair of Fox Kids Worldwide, to be in charge of the Fox Kids Network, Saban Entertainment and International Family Entertainment, acquired by News Corporation earlier in the year. Loesch was given the responsibility of developing long-term strategy and opportunities for Fox Kids Worldwide. Prior to the new appointment, Loesch was responsible not just for the Fox Network--which was the highest-rated children's programming block in broadcasting--but also for the Fox Kids Club, the Fox magazines for kids and the weekly radio program, Fox Kids Countdown. She began her career in TV at ABC in 1971, working her way up through a succession of program-related positions until 1974, when she bolted to NBC to supervise the Saturday morning line-up of children's programming. Loesch left NBC to join Hanna-Barbera as vice president of children's programming in 1979 where she took hold of a property called "The Smurfs," that would become the hottest kids ticket of the early 80s and put NBC in the Saturday morning driver's seat. In 1984, she accepted the position of president and CEO of Marvel Productions, where she was responsible for the execution of such programs as "Jim Henson's Muppet Babies," "Dungeons and Dragons," "GI Joe" and "Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock" and shared in four Emmy awards for her efforts. It was a surprise to few in the animation and kids programming world when Loesch was named by Fox to create a network for the ages 2-12 demographic in 1990. She developed the Fox Network as a service for the affiliates providing both weekday and Saturday morning programming. Among the efforts was the "Batman" animated franchise. Loesch has also expanded the Fox Network to Latin America and Australia. Following the merger of Fox Kids Network with Saban in November 1997, Loesch resigned her post. In February 1998, it was announced that she had accepted the position of president of the newly created Jim Henson TV Group, with responsibilities to head worldwide TV operations and with the mandate to create a new general entertainment cable channel. Soon after the network relaunch under the name Hallmark Channel, Loesch resigned because she "achieved all of my goals, and now I'm exhausted" and she hoped to spend more time with her family. From: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/x-men-animated-series-story-90s-cartoon-hit-1052263/ TV executive Margaret Loesch had long championed the idea that there was TV gold to be made with Marvel, and she'd spent years pitching shows to the networks. Loesch was particularly taken with the X-Men, the ragtag team of mutants led by Prof. Charles Xavier, who taught them to deal with their mutant powers, all the while protecting a public who feared and even hated them. She oversaw a failed pilot, 1989's Pryde of the X-Men, (featuring, of all things, a Wolverine with an Australian accent) and vowed not to make the same mistakes again. When Loesch started her role as Fox Kids CEO in 1990, she convinced Fox head Jamie Kellner to let her greenlight an X-Men show, staking her career on its success. She brought in Haim Saban of Saban Entertainment and production company Graz for the show.                                   X-Men The Animated Series Episodes 6-9 Premiered on “Fox Kids” (Episode Order As Shown On Disney+, Premiere Dates As Shown On Fox) S1E6 “Cold Vengeance” February 6, 1993 S1E7 “Slave Island” Saturday February 13, 1993 S1E8 “The Cure” Saturday February 27, 1993 S1E9 "Come the Apocalypse" Saturday March 6, 1993 Produced By: Will Meugniot Larry Houston             X-Men The Animated Series Main Cast Cedric Smith                                        ...         Professor X / Charles Xavier 117 Credits, best known for X-Men Norm Spencer                                      ...         Cyclops / Scott Summers  31 Credits, best known for X-Men Catherine Disher                                  ...         Jean Grey / Phoenix 122 Credits, best known for X-Men Alison Sealy-Smith                              ...         Storm / Ororo Munroe 72 Credits, best known for X-Men Iona Morris                                          ...         Storm / Ororo Munroe 101 Credits Star Tek TOD (Little Girl) Claudian Grant on Robotech 2xStar Trek: Voyager Lenore Zann                                         ...         Rogue 110 Credits, best known for X-Men Cal Dodd                                              ...         Wolverine / Logan 34 Credits, best known for X-Men Alyson Court                                        ...         Jubilee / Jubilation Lee 100 Credits, best known for X-Men George Buza                                        ...         Beast / Dr. Henry 'Hank' McCoy  163 Credits, best known for X-Men Chris Potter                                         ...         Gambit / Remy LeBeau 58 Credits The Pacifier Heartland  Don Francks                                       ...         Sabretooth / Graydon Creed Sr.  191 Credits Johnny Mnemonic Heavy Metal Brett Halsey                                         ...         Bolivar Trask 154 Credits        Barry Flatman                                      ...         Henry Peter Gyrich (works with Trask) David Hemblen                         ...         Magneto / Erik Magnus Lehnsherr Lawrence Bayne                                   ...         Cable / Nathan Dayspring-Summers 127 Credits Randall Carpenter        (She)                ...         Mystique / Raven Darkholme (voice) 13 Credits          Lally Cadeau                                         ...         Dr. Moira MacTaggert  Stephen Ouimette                                ...         Angel / Warren Worthington III  John Colicos                                        ...         Apocalypse / En Sabah Nur   NEWS [45:29]   UPCOMING MARVEL STUDIOS SLATE OF PROJECTS   Moon Knight will premiere March 30th, 2022 on Disney+ Confirmed During Disney+ Day 12 Nov 20211 Series Synopsis Released: https://www.cbr.com/moon-knight-marvel-synopsis-multiple-personalities/ First Trailer Released: https://www.superherohype.com/tv/510119-marvel-studios-debuts-the-first-trailer-for-moon-knight   Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered on December 17th, 2021. "I'm aware that the third film in most trilogies sucks," he admitted with the caveat, "not always."   Scarlett Johansson Received a Second Massive Payout for Pandemic Release Restructuring https://www.cbr.com/scarlett-johansson-sing-2-streaming-pandemic-payout/ Marvel Cinematic Universe star Scarlett Johansson received a massive second payout as a result of the release restructuring caused by the pandemic.   According to Puck, Johansson was one of several actors who were handed "mid seven-figure checks" by NBC Universal as a buyout of their box office bonuses. NBC Universal had opted to make films available for streaming 17 days after release in theaters as a compromise during the pandemic. The same was given to Johansson's co-stars, Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon. The exact figure is unknown. It's worth noting that Universal's deal with theaters allowed for release on streaming services for films that opened to less than $50 million. Meaning the buyout was arguably unnecessary. ‘Sing 2' and the Art of Franchise Survivalism https://puck.news/sing-2-and-the-art-of-franchise-survivalism/ From Puck.news: “NBC Universal C.E.O. Jeff Shell and film chief Donna Langley decided to keep the theatrical exclusive, then drop the film on premium video on demand 17 days after its release, for a higher-than-normal $25 rental charge. That strategy would potentially kneecap the box office of a film whose 2016 predecessor grossed $634 million worldwide, though films available at home recently have held up O.K. in theaters. I'm told it also meant cutting mid seven-figure checks to the voices of those farm animals—Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson, with smaller payouts for the rest of the main cast—to buy out a big chunk of their box office bonuses.”   DISNEY+   Gugu Mbatha-Raw Confirms Return for ‘Loki' Season 2 ‘Loki' Season 2 Eyeing a Summer Production Start https://www.murphysmultiverse.com/gugu-mbatha-raw-confirms-return-for-loki-season-2/ https://www.murphysmultiverse.com/loki-season-2-eyeing-a-summer-production-start/ Production on the second season of Marvel Studios' Loki series is reported to begin this summer at Pinewood Studios, and it appears one of the first seasons' biggest stars will be there when it happens. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the British actress who played TVA judge and series antagonist Ravonna Renslayer, has confirmed that she will indeed be returning for the show's next batch of episodes. During an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, Mbatha-Raw was asked about her involvement with the future of the Disney+ exclusive. This popular series, based on the Hasbro toys, spawned the recent smash hit feature film, "THE TRANSFORMERS," from Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay. Before he began producing and directing his own films, Paul spent a couple years co-writing six STAR WARS sequel novels (with Hollace Davids) for Lucasfilm and Bantam books, including the award-winning MISSION FROM MOUNT YODA plus THE GLOVE OF DARTH VADER, THE LOST CITY OF THE JEDI, ZORBA THE HUTT'S REVENGE, QUEEN OF THE EMPIRE and PROPHETS OF THE DARK SIDE. The books sold millions of copies and were published in many languages. Introduction! Thanks for the warm and overwhelming support on the return! Chapter 007 Recap Parzival has an epiphany that his home school planet of Ludus is actually the resting place of the Tomb of Horrors. After exploiting away to travel there without zero credits, he manages to find the entrance and makes his way in, ready for the perils that lie ahead. Chapter 0008 Summary With the help of a map from the Tomb of Horrors module, Parzival makes his way through the treacherous tomb avoiding traps and monsters and collecting a heavy amount of gold pieces along the way. He's eventually confronted by Acererak who challenges him to a best 2 out of 3 game of Joust, the classic arcade game. Parzival bests Acererak winning the copper key along with a clue to the first gate but before he's able to leave the Tomb of Horrors, he's stopped short of the entrance by a mysterious figure who making their way inside as well… Chapter 0008 Narrative  Parzival uses his map to navigate through the ToH and avoid most of the traps and monsters Levels up like a few types of classes; monster xp vs GP xp; gp xp converts to OASIS credits He eventually makes his way to the Pillared Throne Room where he sees a throne and Acereak sitting there which is a break from the D&D module The voices inside our heads here - what did you hear when you read the booK? "Not horses," he replied, stepping away from his throne. "Birds." The rules to win a copper key, best two out of three. Of course, Parzival had honed his skills over time and credits Aech as it was his favorite (and former) game used to settle asinine pop culture disputes, but did you ever take issue with just how good Wade/Parzival was at everything? I've seen some of the negative criticism from people who didn't paritcularly like the novel and it's a go-to for a lot of those people. Parzival gets his arse handed to him in match #1; but then asks to play on the other side in order to win games 2 and 3 After the second win, Acererak pounds on the side of the cabinet smashing into pixles and graciously congratulates Parzival before taking the form of Anorak. Anaorak hands him the copper key, and Parzival notice two lines of text etched into the key reading, “What you seek lies hidden in the trash on the deepest level of Daggorath.” He immediately knows exactly what this hints refers to and has a hunch that he needs to travel to Middletown, a re-creation of Halliday's hometown as a boy. There, in Halliday's old home, he would find a "Dungeons of Daggorath" game and somehow that would lead him to the first gate to use the copper key on. All he needed to do now was get out of the Tomb of Horrors and make his way immediately there, but just as he was leaving the tomb, he is confronted by the silhouette of another avatar… The Pop!  Reference: “My flashlight reached into the darkness ahead, flickering off the damp stone walls. Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends is an American animated television series produced by Marvel Productions, considered to be a crossover series connected to 1981 Spider-Man series. The show stars already-established Marvel Comics characters Spider-Man and Iceman, plus an original character, Firestar. As a trio called the Spider-Friends, they fought against various villains of the Marvel Universe. Originally broadcast on NBC as a Saturday morning cartoon, the series ran first-run original episodes for three seasons, from 1981 to 1983, then aired repeats for an additional two years (from 1984 to 1986). Alongside the 1981 Spider-Man animated series, Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Bobby Drake (Iceman), and Angelica Jones (Firestar) are all college students at Empire State University. After working together to defeat the Beetle and recovering the "Power Booster" he stole from Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man) the trio decide to team-up permanently as the "Spider-Friends". They live together in Peter's aunt's home with her and a pet dog, Ms. Lion (adopted from Firestar), a Lhasa Apso. Together, the superheroes battle various supervillains. Some stories featured team-ups with other characters from the Marvel Universe, including Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Sunfire, and the mid-1970's X-Men. Kathy Garver was born in Long Beach, California Her break-through performance came as one of the young slaves in The Ten Commandments She is most well known for starring as the teenage niece of Uncle Bill Davis, Cissy Davis on Family Affair (1966). The show was nominated for Emmys in various categories during its five year run. Kathy is also very much in demand for her numerous vocal characterizations. She's a stand-out in the very competitive field of voices-overs for cartoons, commercials, toys and audio books. She voiced "Pepper", an automotive whiz, in the Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos (1986) series and "Firestar", a mutant super hero, in the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981) TV series. Time to visit the origin of the space opera as we know it today as we look into the history of Flash Gordon. How did this prolific series get started back in the 1930's? How did this series influence many of our favourite films and characters of today? How does the band Queen connect to this story? Also, Dave Bautista has some comments for Disney in response to James Gunn's firing from future Marvel projects. The first of four feature-length ventures between Marvel Productions and Sunbow Entertainment that centered on toys made by Hasbro, THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE would make for an ambitious way to not only sell toys and entertain fans, but also to set for a new course for the animated TV series, in this bridge between the second and third seasons of the show.  A critical and commercial misfire, the film has gained cult status among Transformers property aficionados and lovers of cultural oddities of the 1980s, not only for its bold story choices, but also for its eclectic voice actors (Orson Welles, Judd Nelson, Eric Idle, Leonard Nimoy, Casey Kasem, Robert Stack, Lionel Stander, John Moschitta Jr, and Scatman Crothers), as well as its driving hair-metal soundtrack.

If you had to summarize this week's episode in a few words, they would definitively be "more than meets the eye". Asian Jon and Average Joe look back on Justice League's second weekend at the box office and cry over what the future of the DC movie universe looks like in light of the news; but is there hope for this franchise? Then we take a trip back to 1986 to then go to 2005 which is the future but is actually the past for us in 2017 to talk about "The Transformers: The Movie". How does the classic animated series translate to the big screen? What were the reasons for deciding to make a major motion picture about these characters? How does it hold up? Does it compare to the live action films? Does Average Joe get to keep his $50? Music and audio from "The Transformers: The Movie" is the property of Vince DiCola, Joe Bacal, Tom Griffith, Nelson Shin, Hasbro, Sunbow Productions, Marvel Productions, and Toei Animation.
