Ephesians 4King James Version 4 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. 17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil. 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
This is episode 200 - we have reached the double century milestone on our winding journey through the past. When I began the series in 2021 after some years of planning, I had no idea what would happen. Diving into the shark tank that is history podcasting took a great deal of forethought. One person's history is another persons' propaganda after all, social engineers rewrite the past to suit their own agenda's and this series has been based on our people's stories first. Endeavouring to let the folks of the south talk for themselves, which of course, can threaten folks' world view about their origins, or their personal narrative. It is rife with risk. So it's with some relief to report that the response has been overwhelmingly positive. This series is now the third most shared podcast in South Africa — a stunning revelation given that I am doing this solo. There is no marketing team, no financier, no patron, just me and you the listener. Thanks to Francois at iono.fm for the growth in advertising, nothing for mahala I guess. Speaking of filthy lucre, I have a PayPal account for donations which can be found on desmondlatham.blog. The funds go towards the series audio hosting fees. The third video episode is about to land on YouTube, so things are happening. With that craven bit of begging, let us continue for we are going to spend this episode meeting Cape Governor, Sir George Grey. He is probably the most influential Englishman in both New Zealand and South Africa's history, playing a key role in the annexation of Maori land, he spent time as a Governor of Australia. Very much an administrator of his time, he believed in educating the masses, and put his money where his mouth was, founding Grey's College in Bloemfontein in 1855, then Grey's High School in Gbeberha a year later. In between, all manner of shenanigans were recorded. But wait. As we hear about Sir George, I'll introduce his amaxhosa alter ego, Manhlakaza, aka Wilhelm Goliath, who was the first amaXhosa Anglican in South Africa. Manhlakaza's relationship with the Archdeacon of Grahamstown, Nathanial James Merriman, was going to change the whole course of South Africa's history. Don't take my word for it, this is the view of many who know much more than me about these things, particularly the fantastic historian Jeff Peires. Here were two people, opposites. Grey and Goliath. Their tale is tantamount to the gears of history turning like a great, soot-streaked clockwork, steam-punk cogs groaning under the weight of human ambition and magical ether, while the past, a fog of coal-smoke and brass, hisses and sputters, propelling the unwieldy engine unsteadily into the unknown. The allegorical story this episode contains metaphors and illustrations of an era. Grey believed white and black people were essentially the same, it was only culture and backward rituals that separated the races. Grey wrote regularly about how aborigines and later amaXhosa “…are as apt and intelligent as any other race of men I am acquainted with…” “They are subject to the same affections, appetites and passions as other men…” Simply put, he thought that the Aborigines, the Maoris, the First People's of Canada, the Khoekhoe, the Nguni and Tswana speaking south Africans, all wanted to become Englishmen but couldn't because they were trapped by the barbarous customs and rituals enforced by their older generation. At the same time, the colonial in him believed that no Aborigine, or Maori or African culture, was worth the grand heights of English culture. Still, that didn't stop him personally conducting a major contribution study of the Maori language and folklore. That study is regarded one of the most important research into early Maori ways — a contradiction considering that he didn't hold the Maori ways in high regard. What a strange character.

Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... The apostle Peter tells us to be diligent to keep ourselves in peace, without spot, and blameless. (2 Peter 3:14) Trouble will happen. We will be misunderstood (often while trying to help another person). Devils are rampant in the end time because they know their time is short. (Rev. 12:12)

Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... Ephesians 4 (Paul says) 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 11 And HE gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into HIM in all things, which is the head, even Christ:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. The 5 ministries of Jesus Christ: apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher Jesus, from heaven, puts individuals into the ministries of apostle, prophet, evangelists, pastors and teachers for the New Testament church. And when Jesus calls a minister to the church, Jesus also teaches that minister and prepares that minister to serve in the church in the ministry to which he is called.
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.20 But ye have not so learned Christ;21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:27 Neither give place to the devil.28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. -Ephesians 4:1-32Welcome and Blessings!Thank you for tuning in to the reading and discussion of the Holy Scriptures!Stay tuned every week, Tuesdays and Thursdays 12 P.M EST. Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... The Saints are those persons who are born again having the Spirit of God dwelling in them. The apostle Paul says: I Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? Every person who is born again of the Spirit of God is a "saint". The born again church are the saints. Ephesians 4:3-5 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, 2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: 3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: 7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. 8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; 9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, 11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: 12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. 13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. 14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

“Rallying Around UNITY ,Contending Together For The Faith” ~~ Philippians 1:27-2:4 (07/01/21) Phil. 1:27 Only let your conversation/conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,(NKJV) “Only” connects this all inclusive exhortation that Paul begins this portion of scripture with, with the previous verses (vs. 23-26) where we saw he was ‘between a rock & a hard place' about whether he should remain with them or go to be with Jesus in Heaven…He knew they needed His ministry & whether his salvation or deliverance meant being phys. Free from house arrest or not he was now confident that he would be able to continue his ministry to them & that that was what he was to do. OPENESS of heart by the Philippians was needed as Paul now begins to address basic spiritual needs of the church; rubber meets the road principals are now provided throughout the rest of this letter to correct certain things in their lives & provide for what they may be lacking “Conversation/Conduct” KJV uses conversation, which in that day had a different meaning than currently ( an interchange or discourse between people)…a better rendering is manner of life, behavior ,conduct……………HOWEVER THERE IS MOREJ “POLITEUO” (Grk)( Poly –too-i-mi) this is the word from where we get our word politics, it referred to the public duties devolving on a person as a member of a body of people Acts 23:1 I have lived (politeuo) =conducted myself as a worthy citizen of heaven before God until this day FURTHER meaning….Manage the state (steward) , administrate civil affairs, here it speaks of citizenship …that is “Live as the citizens of heaven would exuding heavenly attributes” The use of Politeuo…is a kind of play on words as Philippi was a Roman colony & being a good citizen of Rome was imperative , so Paul uses this to show our relationship relationship to being good citizens of heaven The use of this specialized word here COLORS the rest of the Epistle…giving it a Heavenly atmosphere,,,,we are heavenly people, with a heavenly destiny, & a heavenly origin…with a responsibility of living here on earth as being of the heavenly realm in the midst of ungodly people & surroundings. 3:20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 3:12 All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God—the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name. Only let your conversation/conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ….The construction of the Greek language conveys STEPPING up To ONES spiritual RESPONSIBILITY as ‘Heavenly Citizens'… being responsible to exhort OURSELVES to live this way daily!= Maturity!:-) Only let your conversation/conduct Be Worthy of The Gospel—KJV says Be as It Becometh the Gospel Becometh …literally to have the weight of(weighing as much as) another thing. It means of like value or worth as much **SAINTS are to see to it that their manner of life weighs as much as the gospel they profess to believe or their words will not have weight** WORD STUDY: Eph. 4:22-24 You took off[a] your former way of life, the old self[b] that is corrupted by deceitful desires; 23 you are being renewed[c] in the spirit of your minds; 24 you put on[d] the new self, the one created according to God's likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.(HCSB) “Conversation” anastrophē ‘manner or way of Life'(conduct) ITim. 4:12, Heb. 13:5-7, Jn. 3:13, I Peter 1:15-18 **I Peter 3:1,2, II Peter 2:7,3:11 “That You STAND FAST” Be Firm & Upright in holding ones ground Implication: there is an enemy(s) we must confront, When you become a Christian you enter a ‘Spiritual Battle' (Eph. 6:12)..Here Paul begins to address the attack on Unity that was coming against the Philippian church “One Spirit”…This speaks of the Unity of the Spirit which the Body of Christ is to be fused & blended in…of course produced in our spirits by the influence of God's Holy Spirit “Mind”….trs. of Grk. Word ‘Soul'…our reasons, our will, emotions…this is where EXERTION takes place as we are influenced by God (not the World) “Striving” (synathleō)is the trs. Of a Grk. Word used in an Athletic contest…our words ‘athlete' & athletic come from this word….the GREEK language conveys a Powerful picture of an Athletic team WORKING TOGETHER in Perfect coordination to Win a competition/game.(Lk. 13:24,Ro. 15:30) Paul here is exhorting the Phil. To work together in perfect co-ordination like a team of Greek Athletes toward a common Goal/ Prize…………………LOL!! Paul must have been a ‘Sports Fan'! he is always using athletic metaphors to expound upon the Christian life….(see…I tim.4:7-10,IITim.2:5,I Cr.9:24-26,Phil. 3:12,13,Heb. 12:1, Eph. 6:12) “Only (since my only reason for remaining on earth is for your progress in the Christian life), see to it that you recognize your responsibility as citizens (of heaven), & put yourselves to the absolute necessity of performing the duties devolving upon you in that position, doing this in a manner which is befitting to the gospel of Christ, in order that whether having come & having seen you, or whether being absent I am hearing the things concerning you ,namely, that you are standing firm in one spirit, holding your ground, with one soul contending (as a team of athletes would ) in perfect co-operation with one another for the faith of the gospel.” ~Philippians 1:27 The New Testament Expanded Translation ~ Kenneth S. Wuest “Terrified” used by the grks. To describe the terror of a startled horse …”Adversaries” here Paul is referring to the pagan idolators in Philippi who would oppose the Saints “Evident Token” a law term that denotes proof which is obtained by an appeal to facts,,,which were “that of God.” Connecting ‘striving together' (vs. 27) this evident token is A possible allusion to A Gladiators contest in the Ampitheater …The Christian Gladiator Knows GOD is the director of the contest & Has given Him a sure/evident token of deliverance The idea verse 28 conveys is the Saints in Philippi have not allowed themselves to be scared by antagonism from the pagan community & thus this was clear evidence to convince the pagans that they (the pagans)were on the road to hell & the Saints were clearly saved I Peter 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. I Peter 3:12-17 because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are open to their request. But the face of the Lord is against those who do what is evil.[a]13 And who will harm[b] you if you are deeply committed to what is good?[c]14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear or be disturbed,[d]15 but honor[e] the Messiah[f] as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason[g] for the hope that is in you. 16 However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear,[h][i]so that when you are accused,[j] those who denounce your Christian life[k] will be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will,[l] than for doing evil. “FOR”….connects the thought from previous vs. (28) on not being in fear because…… “For unto you it is given” the ‘IT' has been graciously given to you just like the free gift of salvation given to you , this IT also means ‘on behalf of, in the place of' ‘IT' – “It has been graciously given the saints to suffer not only for the sake of BUT in THE PLACE of Christ” POINT: suffering from Pagans/the enemy may cause terror, HOWEVER when viewed in God's light, it was really a gift of God's Grace and NOT evil “Conflict” (Agon) –agony ….again a picture or word used to describe an athletic contest. Paul again was using this metaphor to describe our Christian Life…we are God's athletes to whom he has given an opportunity to show the stuff we are made of conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me….Paul uses this picture to describe his own Untiring work for the Gospel of Christ WORD STUDY: ** Suffering for the Gospel IS Scriptural** II Tim. 3:12 10 But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, and endurance, 11 along with the persecutions and sufferings that came to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all. 12 In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.(HCSB) 3:10 10 My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death Acts 5:41,9:16,II Cor.1:7,Romans 8:17,36, I Peter 2:20,4:16,5:10, Matt. 5:11, Heb. 11:25 Phil. 2:1,2 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, (2) fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. The exhortation that Paul had given in 1:27 is kind of a ‘Hope-So' for the Phil. To be standing fast in One Spirit w/ a single Mind , striving together as a TEAM for Faith in the Gospel is further elaborated on now..verse 2 here basically repeats the same hope/exhortation AN EXHORTATION TO UNITY as shown by FOUR FACTS in 2:1 “If” could be since or in view of the fact …(is FACT & yet conditional) 1)“CONSOLATION” …we could say consolation IS a Certain Thing/attribute (Grk.) GRK. (PARAKLESIS..Par-auk-leeseis, It's ROOT= paraklētos ,'Comforter' ) Is a calling near, summons, (esp. for help) THE CONTEXT ALWAYS DETERMINES Meaning) a calling near, summons, (esp. for help) importation, supplication, entreaty exhortation, admonition, encouragement consolation, comfort, solace; that which affords comfort or refreshment thus of the Messianic salvation (so the Rabbis call the Messiah the consoler, the comforter) persuasive discourse, stirring address instructive, admonitory, conciliatory, powerful hortatory discourse In view of the FACT that The PHIL. Were under ATTACK to become DISUNIFIED CONSOLATION Here meant EXHORTATION…POINT: Christ's Life should be an exhortation ,admonition, & encouragement for the Phil. To live in a state of HARMONY with each other, to be likeminded. 2)“COMFORT” literally is a word which comes to the side of one to stimulate or comfort Him/Her…it speaks of persuasive address…”Of Love (AGAPE)” Agape…produces the action (compelling) of COMFORT , loving persuasion & encouragement ..HERE coming through the ‘Instrument' of the Apostle urging them to Live in UNITY 3)“Fellowship Of The Spirit” A koinōnia , a sharing & joint participation in GODLY Things together as Saints & also Including God's Spirit …Paul implores since all of them participate In common activities & interests of the HS. there should be a NATURAL flow of UNITY in their midst….so again be Like-Minded PROBLEM: Not all were living Spirit-Filled & Controlled Lives..(Remember the song ‘One Bad apple?…J) 4)“Bowels & Mercies” Or…Tenderheartedness & Compassionate Yearnings These deep emotions & graces of love should dispel differences & bickering among the Phil., Estrangements should be healed 2 FULFILL…”…. Literally “complete or FILL FULL', BE Likeminded…literally THINK THE SAME THING!....this Like-mindedness is shown by 3 elements mentioned in this verse a)Having the same love b) being in HEART agreement (soul to soul agreement…literal) c) thinking the ONE THING TRS. (WUEST) “ Fill Full my joy by thinking the same thing , having the same love, being in Heart agreement, thinking the ONE Thing” WORD STUDY: Unity/Oneness …Think ‘Phalanax' Romans 15:6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ACTS 4:32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. Eph. 4:1-7 Therefore I, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, accepting[a] one another in love, 3 diligently keeping the unity of the Spirit with the peace that binds us. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope[b] at your calling— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all7 Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of the Messiah's gift. EPH. 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. “THROUGH” this in the Grk. Shows an compelling Motive “STRIFE” has the idea of being FACTIOUS I Cor. 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? JAMES 3:14-1614 But if ye have bitter envy and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.15 Such wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish16 For where envy and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work. Download Audio Introduction Christian unity is a dangerous subject because, believe it or not, it is one of the ironic things we are divided over. What is the nature of true unity? Why should we care? Are denominations really a form of disobedience? Have we really torn apart the seamless robe of Christ? The Text “A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: That went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: For there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore” (Psalm 133:1-3). Summary of the Text Again, this is another psalm of ascents—one of the psalms that would be sung as pilgrims approached the Temple. Something can be good without being pleasant, but when both good and pleasant come together, it is a true blessing (v. 1). That blessing comes when brethren can dwell together in unity (v. 1). In the economy of Israel, all priests were anointed, but only the high priest was anointed on the head. This unity is like that precious oil that is placed on Aaron's head, runs down to his beard, and from there to the hem of his garments (v. 2). Clearly a large amount of oil was used—even if you follow the ESV reading, which has the oil running down to the collar. In a change of metaphor, we read that Mount Hermon is famous for dew, descending on the mountains of Zion (v. 3). As Zion proper is about 250 miles south of Hermon, we should note the plural mountains, and take Zion as a generic name for Israel. How will this blessing of unity come? It will be the result of a command from Jehovah Himself (v. 3)—that command summoning life forevermore. This dew waters the ground, and makes it truly fruitful. That is the command of God, the blessing of God. This is His purpose and intention. “He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, And fill the face of the world with fruit” (Isaiah 27:6). Two Kinds of Unity As this psalm has praised this particular grace from God in the strongest possible terms, we need to be careful not to distort our understanding of that grace. According to Scripture, there are two kinds of unity that God gives to us. We need to be careful not to muddle them up because if we do, the unfortunate result will be . . . disunity. The first kind is given to all Christians everywhere in the Person of the Holy Spirit. “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). Notice that we already have this unity, which is why we are told to preserve it. We need to be eager in this preservation, laboring at it. The word for unity is the same as that used a few verses down (henotes). The word for bond can mean fetter, or sinew, or that which binds. And the Holy Spirit is the one who ties of the knot of peace. Every Christian has this unity already, and the one charge we have is to pursue a way of life that does not disrupt it. The second kind of unity is institutional unity. Paul is thinking eschatologically, and is looking forward to the time when the bride of Christ, the Church, is without any spot or wrinkle or any such blemish (Eph. 5:27). God will accomplish this through the governmental gifts that He has provided to the Church—apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastor/teachers. “Till we all come in the unity [henotes] of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” (Eph. 4:13). This is the unity of maturity, and we are not supposed to have it yet. And no end of trouble is caused by people who think that we are supposed to have it, and on the basis of this opinion disrupt their fellowship with saints who differ. It is like the old joke about two ministers who were talking, and one said to the other, “Well, we both serve God, I suppose—you in your way, and I in His.” Because we try to seize an institutional unity we are not supposed to enjoy yet, we wind up disrupting the bond of peace that we really do have. Sin as Barrier Sin means we are falling short of a standard that we ought not to be falling short of. Sin means we are not doing what we were instructed to do, and obedience is always something that should be in our hands in the present. Remember that the basic building block of this broader church unity is the family, and the husband and the father is responsible to set the tone for his family. Fathers, you do not have the luxury of being distant, or angry, or sullen, or quiet, or disengaged, or surly. You do not get to flop, or otherwise disrupt a unity that has already been given to you. The household is a wonderful place for learning the basic steps of this particular dance. In fact, there is no better place. And when you learn that wisdom in the home, you will be equipped to navigate the challenges that will arise with regard to extended family, or neighbors, or companions in business, or fellow church members. Immaturity as Barrier Immaturity means that we are right where we are supposed to be. A three-year-old is not in sin being three-years-old. Now if a ten-year-old started acting like a three-year-old this would actually not be immaturity—it would be sin. Remember that God is very easy to please, but very hard to satisfy. When it comes to the unity of the Church today, God is very easy to please, and hard to satisfy. And the reason this is true—the only reason, remember—is because the Father was pleased with Christ. Not only so, but the Father is satisfied in Christ. And Christ is our unity. One Lord, one faith, one baptism (Eph. 4:5).
Eat! Feast! [Eph 1:1-23 KJV] (1) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: (2) Grace [be] to you, and peace, from God our Father, and [from] the Lord Jesus Christ. (3) Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly [places] in Christ: (4) According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: (5) Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, (6) To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. (7) In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; (8) Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; (9) Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: (10) That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; [even] in him: (11) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: (12) That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. (13) In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (14) Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. (15) Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, (16) Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; (17) That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: (18) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (19) And what [is] the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, (20) Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places], (21) Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: (22) And hath put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all [things] to the church, (23) Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. [Eph 2:1-22 KJV] (1) And you [hath he quickened], who were dead in trespasses and sins; (2) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (3) Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (4) But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, (5) Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) (6) And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus: (7) That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. (8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast. (10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (11) Wherefore remember, that ye [being] in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; (12) That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: (13) But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. (14) For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us]; (15) Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, [so] making peace; (16) And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: (17) And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. (18) For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. (19) Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; (20) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; (21) In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: (22) In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. [Eph 3:1-21 KJV] (1) For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, (2) If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: (3) How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, (4) Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) (5) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; (6) That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: (7) Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. (8) Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; (9) And to make all [men] see what [is] the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: (10) To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly [places] might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, (11) According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: (12) In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. (13) Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. (14) For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, (15) Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, (16) That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; (17) That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, (18) May be able to comprehend with all saints what [is] the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; (19) And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. (20) Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, (21) Unto him [be] glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. [Eph 4:1-32 KJV] (1) I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, (2) With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; (3) Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (4) [There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (6) One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all. (7) But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. (8) Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (9) (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? (10) He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) (11) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (14) That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (15) But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ: (16) From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. (17) This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, (18) Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: (19) Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. (20) But ye have not so learned Christ; (21) If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: (22) That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; (23) And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; (24) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (25) Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. (26) Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: (27) Neither give place to the devil. (28) Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with [his] hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. (29) Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. (30) And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. (31) Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: (32) And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. [Eph 5:1-33 KJV] (1) Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; (2) And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. (3) But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; (4) Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. (5) For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. (6) Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. (7) Be not ye therefore partakers with them. (8) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now [are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (9) (For the fruit of the Spirit [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) (10) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. (11) And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove [them]. (12) For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. (13) But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. (14) Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. (15) See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, (16) Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (17) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord [is]. (18) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; (19) Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; (20) Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; (21) Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. (22) Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. (23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. (24) Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in every thing. (25) Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (26) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, (27) That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (28) So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. (29) For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: (30) For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. (31) For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. (32) This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. (33) Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife [see] that she reverence [her] husband. [Eph 6:1-24 KJV] (1) Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. (2) Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) (3) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. (4) And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (5) Servants, be obedient to them that are [your] masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; (6) Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; (7) With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: (8) Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free. (9) And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. (10) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. (13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (19) And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, (20) For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (21) But that ye also may know my affairs, [and] how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things: (22) Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and [that] he might comfort your hearts. (23) Peace [be] to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (24) Grace [be] with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

In this weeks episode of the Middle Management Podcast...One key element of leadership to note, are the situational variances. Each person on your team has a different set of needs due to personal work histories, knowledge and expertise.Work situations will also vary, from high-pressure environments, seasonal influences and general organisational change. Endeavouring to utilise a one size fits all approach to leadership will pale in significance to adopting a more flexible and adaptable approach. Taking the situational approach will do wonders for forming ongoing positive team interactions. It was Dr Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard who coined the term ‘situational leadership' back in the 1960s, so full credit given to their work. Hersey and Blanchard advise that an effective leader adapts their management actions according to the level of the subordinate's knowledge, skills and self-confidence, and then use either a more supportive or directive leadership style.Enjoy the episode
Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... The Old Testament and the children of God: Moses selected men from the tribes of Israel and they assisted him in judging the people. There were 600,000 men (plus women and children) in the wilderness so it became too much for Moses to do all the work alone. Moses' father-in-law suggested another plan for Moses in dealing with the people. Exodus 18 8 And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them. 9 And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom HE had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians. 10 And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, WHO hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians. 11 Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly HE (God) was above them. 12 And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.

Missiological Exploration | Missionary Cooperation Plenteous Redemption Podcast Ephesians 4:1-3 (KJV) I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Many of life's endeavors require cooperation. The American mindset once looked to the lone rangers among us as heroic. There was something intrepid about a man with an individualist and nonconformist approach to life. In the modern era, this has taken a turn in an odd direction. American society is infested with millennial rebels leading the charge as social media influencers. They blaze digital trails that surely shame the explorers of old. These models of perpetual immaturity will someday lead our country; a few are now entering into public office of varying levels. Once there, they will apply their social media influencing experience to garner support for socialism, gender confusion, and sexual perversion. With feeble psyches, this generation has been tossed to and fro by every wind of secular doctrine. Their tossings seem endless; somehow, they have entered a cyclone of perpetual madness. But how have the members of society who once looked at rugged individualism handled the outrageous ramblings of millennial maniacs? Well, primarily through inventive appeasement. It appears clear that prior generations have defaulted to waving the white flag; they essentially advertise their propensity for weakness. This amounts to willful neglect over many years, leading to amoral gender neutral creatures who demand not rights but luxuries such as Starbucks coffee, Apple Computers, and free College. This has produced the dreadful ingredients for a perfect storm, a weak society intermingled with nihilistic brats. So what does this have to do with partnerships in missions? A Missionary is undoubtedly that rugged individualist who sets out to preach the gospel in the regions beyond. To be successful in this endeavor, the missionary must forsake all and leave for this foreign land. A land where people talk differently, think differently, eat differently, smell differently, and worship differently. The millennial aptitude for expressing unfounded opinions from a Macbook Air with anti-capitalist stickers on the front will struggle in this setting. An excellent way to cope with the culture shock and the immediate onset of confusion caused by the corrupt bureaucratic processes of a third-world nation is to have an experienced partner in the ministry. No doubt some will complain the idea of missionary cooperation means the loss of that rugged individualism and pioneering spirit of prior missionary generations. You should have thought about that before giving your child an X-box and flooding their minds with television. But regardless of the presence of a pioneering spirit or no, the willingness of a missionary to leave their home country and labor to establish Bible-believing Christianity in a foreign land is admirable. American society and even American Christianity caused the problem of weak young people. We allowed the influx of collectivist ideologies to flood the minds of our children through the internet, television, contemporary music of varying sorts, and through the school systems. The existence of weakness is an unfortunate fact; the question going forward is how do we fix this without allowing the spread of the gospel to suffer? I submit that missionary partnerships are a great way to accomplish this task. But, as in any area of cooperation, partnerships come with ups and downs - pros and cons. What are the limits of collaboration? How do the areas of responsibility get defined? What happens if the two cannot agree on some issue? These ideas will need to be addressed at some point and in some reasonable way. But the pros of starting a ministry under the guidance of an experienced missionary are tremendous. Navigating the visa process alone could require a degree in indigenous corruption. But one may assume they can hire a lawyer, not understanding the role of third-world lawyers in adding to the corruption. They will happily receive your money and leave you just as confused as you were when the process started. And what of cultural norms and taboos? What will happen in this new country of yours if you wave in a friendly American manner? What if you show someone the bottom of your feet? Have you considered what might happen if you extend your left hand for any purpose? Simple details we would never think to be problematic could stir up a large-scale riot. Missionary partnerships are invaluable; the help gained through either short-term or long-term cooperation is worth the time and effort. In this broadcast, missionary Keith Stensaas and I will try and work out some details to consider in this area of missions. Summary: Trust is an essential element of a healthy family. Building a culture of trust is no accident and requires an intentional plan.Building a culture of trust: To maintain the relational integrity necessary to operate as a family, we must choose to trust and be trustworthy.Ephesians 4:2-3With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.I. We can't build trust if we don't choose trust.A. Often there are unexplainable gaps between what we expect people to do and what they actually do.B. Two things make it difficult for me to trust: Who I am, What I see.C. Three commitments we need to make:1. When there is a gap between what I expect and what I experience, I will fill it with trust.2. When I observe someone filling a gap with suspicion, I will come to your defense.3. If what I experience begins to erode my trust, I will come directly to you about it.II. We must decide to be trustworthy.A. Being trustworthy is not the equivalent of being perfect & flawless in character or performance. (Proverbs 14:4)B. To be trustworthy means to be worthy of trust.C. 3 Commitments we need to make.1. I commit to do what I say I will do and when I don't, I will tell you. - The wrong way to handle it: hide it, deny it, ignore it, excuse it, blame it.2. I commit not to over promise and under deliver. But if it looks like that's where things are headed, I will tell you.3. If you confront me about the gaps I have created, I will tell the truth.III. I must recognize the danger of not building trust.Harboring suspicion and mistrust will eventually poison the culture of your home. (John 3:19)A. There are things that grow and multiply in the darkness, and there are things that grow and multiply in the light.B. When you choose not to trust and refuse to confront, your concealed suspicion grows and poisons your attitude. (Galatians 5:9)C. The consequences of confrontation are far less damaging than the consequences of denial. What do I do when another tribe member is not trustworthy? (Proverbs 3:5-6)1. I trust the living God.2. I commit to do what is right.
*Tech note: our sound is more hollow than usual in this episode. Endeavouring to improve for next time!* One of the biggest shifts that we have noticed during these COVID times is the acceptance and understanding that employees have personal lives outside of work. Before COVID, many of us would be mortified if our child or pet made a peep (or even worse, appeared) in the background of a video call; we wouldn’t dream of wearing the same sweatshirt to work three days in a row, and we would feel uncomfortable saying that we had to wrap up a call to attend to a personal matter. And then COVID-19 happened. Suddenly we all seemed to be more understanding of one another’s personal situations, and in fact, the appearance of the pet is often the meeting highlight! That got us thinking about work personas and how much we bring of ourselves to the workplace. Key Takeaways: “Bringing our whole selves to work” is relative! Individuals are going to be more or less open depending on their personalities, their feeling of safety, their cultural backgrounds, self-confidence in their abilities, etc. It’s important to think about what is defined as “professional” and whether or not it needs a rewrite. (Yes, yes it does.) And still, showing up as your whole self can make you look like a jerk! Watch out for the over-share. Don’t make it all about you...intention doesn’t mitigate impact.

Dr. Joan Boney, Jesus Ministries ... People think they witness to God when they tell the name of the church they attend. But when a person does this, he shows he is carnal and he brings division to the body of Christ according to the apostle Paul. I Cor. 3:1-4 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? If we speak of God, we should speak of that which God has done with us or of that which God has said to us. (They don't do that! They speak of their church and love to tell where they go to church. They think they witness to God when really they are promoting their church group.) If we feel we have to identify ourselves, we should just say, "I am a Christian." Ephesians 4:3-6 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Unity allows God's Spirit and our body to be in harmony, set free, for the work in ministry according to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Scripture: Ephesians 4:3 "Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." KJV
Keep the UnityLet’s get rid of that morning fog. This is “Just a Vapor” a quick glimpse into God’s Word. It is Sunday September 13th, 2020. Todays verses are Ephesians 4:2-3, “With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”Love thy neighbor, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You know the Golden Rule. We all have heard these and know them well, but we can’t just let them be cliches. If ever there was an example of long-suffering think of God toward humanity. All that He has been willing to go through and put up with because He loves us and desires a relationship with us. We need that same patience and love, along with a dose of humility, as we struggle through this Christian life with other believers through the power of the Holy Spirit. This is how we keep the unity.
Ephesian 4:1-15 (KJV) 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ
Today we received some wonderful encouragement from God's Word in how to unify and help our lives, our communities and our nations understand God in Truth! Ephesians 4 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Beloved, today's prophetic message is taken from Ephesians chapter 4 verse 1 to 6. I, therefore, servant of the LORD, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Beloved, THE CHURCH IS THE BODY OF CHRIST. EACH MEMBER HAS FUNCTIONS. IT CANNOT BE SAID THEN THAT ONE DOES NOT NEED THE OTHER. BECAUSE IN ORDER FOR THE WHOLE BODY TO FUNCTION PROPERLY ALL MEMBERS HAVE TO COORDINATE AND WORK TOGETHER. Beloved, THE LORD IS CONCERNED ABOUT ALL THE ACRIMONY, NAME CALLING AND STRIFE IN THE CHURCH. Before ending this sermon, let's recap. There is one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all. Brethren, SAINTS, WHEREVER YOU ARE, LET us PRAY FOR UNITY OF THE CHURCH. May God Bless His word in the midst of our heart.
Ephesians 4:1-7 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:1-31 Psalm 133:1 says “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”. That word “unity” means “a unit, union”. It doesn’t mean that we will all be identical in everything we do, it just means that we can embrace diversity without being divided. It means that we embrace the role that God has given me and fulfill that role while being completely comfortable with my brother or sister who have been placed in a completely different role… why? Because we are ultimately A UNIT—WE ARE UNITED AS ONE—heading in the same direction. Paul challenged the church in Ephesus—“…walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”(Ephesians 4:1-3)

Ephesians 4:1-6 Inextricably linked; tied with an inseparable cord is the commandment to Christian love and the exhortation to Christian unity. Try any which way you will to separate these two giants and for all your strivings your efforts shall prove in vain, for one cannot maintain the unity of the faith without love and without the unity to which Christ hath joined us to His spiritual body via the new birth, the commandment to love would be impossible!! This sermon is an exhortation to practical unity!! To simply dote upon the theological truths relating to our spiritual union in Christ and by virtue of this our union with His spiritual body is pie in the sky unless we are going to make a purposeful effort on our behalf to strive to ensure that this spiritual unity is brought into the realm of practical experience “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph. 4:3). This sermon was shared at the CMFI 2017 conference

Because the doctor of Catholic truth ought not only to teach the proficient, but also to instruct beginners (according to the Apostle: As unto little ones in Christ, I gave you milk to drink, not meat -- 1 Corinthians 3:1-2), we purpose in this book to treat of whatever belongs to the Christian religion, in such a way as may tend to the instruction of beginners. We have considered that students in this doctrine have not seldom been hampered by what they have found written by other authors, partly on account of the multiplication of useless questions, articles, and arguments, partly also because those things that are needful for them to know are not taught according to the order of the subject matter, but according as the plan of the book might require, or the occasion of the argument offer, partly, too, because frequent repetition brought weariness and confusion to the minds of readers. Endeavouring to avoid these and other like faults, we shall try, by God's help, to set forth whatever is included in thissacred doctrine as briefly and clearly as the matter itself may allow. Relationships through the word of God! What if we loved the way the word says to love in relationships. What if we forget about all that we know to do in love and pick up the word of God and do it strickly Gods way. Could you do it? Would you do it?
