Harold López-Nussa is already out on the road and is ready to visit the Cedar Cultural Center on Wednesday November 15 for his debut performance at that venue. López-Nussa's new release is his first for Blue Note and it's garnering lots of acclaim for good reason; it's a reflection on his experiences, both joyous and melancholy, of leaving Cuba and moving with his family to France. Harold took some time out of his schedule to chat with Sean from the Afternoon Cruise about the record and about his experiences playing the music out on the road.

This episode of Backstage Jazz features an interview with jazz pianist Harold López-Nussa. Ewe discussed his new album, Timba a la Americana, and his upcoming show at Dazzle on November 18. Cuban-born pianist and composer HAROLD LÓPEZ-NUSSA begins an exciting new chapter of his fascinating career with his Blue Note debut, Timba a la Americana, a vibrant album teeming with joy and pathos that was inspired by the pianist's recent decision to leave his Cuban homeland and begin a new life in France. Produced by Snarky Puppy bandleader Michael League, Timba a la Americana unveils a brand-new sound across ten dynamic original compositions performed by a tight-knit band featuring harmonica virtuoso Grégoire Maret, Luques Curtis on bass, Bárbaro “Machito” Crespo on congas, and Harold's brother Ruy Adrián López-Nussa on drums. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/backstagejazz/message

The Wailing Octopus by Harold L. Goodwin audiobook. Rick and Scotty fly off to the Caribbean, along with Drs. Briotti and Zircon, in search of pirate treasure. They soon become entangled with foreign spies and a hurricane and Steve Ames and the U.S. Navy, and it's a non-stop race to the treasure!
Rip Foster Rides the Gray Planet by Harold L. Goodwin audiobook. "Foster, Lieutenant, R. I. P.," blared the voice horn, and five minutes later Rip Foster was off into space on an assignment more exciting than any he had ever imagined. He could hardly believe his ears. Could a green young Planeteer, just through his training, possibly carry out orders like these? Sunny space, what a trick it would be! From the moment Rip boards the space ship Scorpius there is a thrill a minute. He and his nine daring Planeteers must cope with the merciless hazing of the spacemen commanding the ship, and they must outwit the desperate Connies, who threaten to plunge all of space into war. There are a thousand dangers to be faced in high vacuum—and all of this while carrying out an assignment that will take every reader's breath away.

Gabriel Guerra Bianchini (Havana, 1984), as a visual poet, slips around a powerful sensitivity that leads him to imagine new senses, and whose first virtue is expressed in overlapping the harshness of daily. Reality, according to his creed, deserves to be reinvented. Ok, so this episode is a little late due to an unexpected stay in the hospital But, here we are at last celebrating pastor appreciation month. So, basically, I shoved a microphone in front of several confused pastors and asked them each, "When, as a pastor, do you feel most appreciated?" My prayer is that through this episode you will not only gain a better appreciation for your pastor, but learn how to express that appreciation in a meaningful way.Recommended Resources:For God's Sake, Rest! by James L. Episode 48 An East River Park Sound Walk in New York Playlist East River Park Sound Walk, New York City, June 26, 2021. The sound of a single recording made while circling the park. It is heard simultaneously on three tracks: 1) the unadulterated recording; 2) the recording played through a transducer and an antique gasoline can; and 3) the recording played through a transducer and a one-gallon ceramic preservation crock. Each of the versions has its own character of sound that highlights different frequency bands. Peter Kilham and Alfred L. Hawkes, Side 2 of The Swamp In June (1964 Droll Yankees Inc.). Monophonic LP. Recording by Peter Kilham, narration (side 1) by Alfred L. Hawkes. Recorded on Joe Ranger's swamp, North Pomfret, Vermont. From the liner notes: “On this recording you will hear the sounds of swamp citizens ranging from the buzzing of flies through the pained groaning of pickerel frogs to the mewing of baby beavers in their lodge, and the startling splashes of their parents. Birds provide the melody in the background, while insects add rhythm and continuity. The narrator identifies the sounds, and comments on swamp life on one side of the record. The bizarre swamp chorus is heard alone on the reverse side.” RCOA Stereo Systems Test Record, side 1 (1974 Yorkshire Records). Art Direction, Lucie Leniston; Producer, Harold L.
