Episode 11: Igniting Sexual Desire as a Couple while Living and Working from Home

Body-Led Business

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 18, 2023 28:09

This is the most intimate Body-Led Business podcast episode yet. So many couples have added the dynamic of not only living together but also working from home. And yes, spending more casual time together or showing up in the bedroom while still wearing our CEO hat does affect our sexual polarity. It's the biggest myth of our times that chemistry is doomed to wane away and yet, it will do so if we're not intentional about cultivating our desire. In other words, sexual desire choice in long-term partnership is a choice. And sexual desire is also like a muscle that needs consistent training ;)   In this episode, I share the behind the scenes of our relationship where sacred sexuality is one of our core values and where complacency has no room. I share 7 ways how Kevin and I have been cultivating our polarity while not only living together but also working from home. Spoiler: this does entail engineering lots of space in our relationship to spark that delicious longing! The quality of your intimate life affects all of your life, from your self-worth to business creativity.  In the Body-Led paradigm we're here to live from a place of overflow. Honoring your emotional aliveness, sexuality, and the nervous system are all core elements of living a holistic life – they give the fuel you need to create truly sustainable business success.

You are NOT your business. I don't know about you but personally, I love some good tough love! Let's be real… There's a big difference between being a talented person selling transformational experiences online vs being the CEO of your company. When you lead a soul-led business, it is so easy to identify with your business and let your mood and personal life intertwine with your business.  In order to scale my business, I had to separate my business from myself. If I wanted to create sustainable growth, I knew that it could not be impacted by my daily changes in mood, emotions or personal life. Along the way, I also ended up inventing a new archetype, the Disappearing Coach. It's the coach who goes so full power during launches, then having no energy left to keep showing up afterwards and, as a result of this, disappearing for sometime. To create sustainable success we don't need a vacation from, we need to pace ourselves when launching. The work is to create such consistent inner resources so that we feel naturally replenished and energized during and after program launches. Yes, the body-led business paradigm is such a beautiful antidote to burnout. Finally, I explored the union between somatic work and business strategy and how they go hand in hand. My prayer is that you get to create a business that leaves you not only well-paid, but also well-rested. A business that gives you plenty of space to live your dream life because it is held by robust structures that hold the business for you. Enjoy, my beloved. ༄ Remember to rate and leave a review for this podcast. As a thank you, I'll send you a next level activation to help you source your inner confidence as a CEO. This week on "On This Walk" my walking partners Debra Hess and Matt Hogan will challenge your thinking as we examine the influence embodiment has on our feelings and sense of self-alignment connecting with our bodies and finding inner peace. We go into the concept that embodiment is the key to experiencing genuine vitality, and how letting go of inhibitions and embracing every sensation may free our full potential. Debra and Matt share rituals and advice that might help us feel comfortable expressing our feelings and tapping into our intuition. Listen as we help you overcome your inhibitions and see your feelings as a force for a positive change in your life. In This Episode (13:35) Overcoming the fear to find inner alignment. (16:09) Is embodiment the key to feeling alive? (19:48) Embracing vulnerability and shedding fears (25:15) Unleashing the power of emotions (32:11) Discovering inner guidance and the hallmarks of an embodiment for a lighter life (43:53) What are we really after? (47:48) Unleashing creative solutions through love, and exploring uncertainty (49:43) The path to co-creation and inner wisdom (57:52) The journey of threading versus the journey of evolving (01:05:35) Uncovering the hidden forces behind our emotions Notable Quotes “A big piece of this is restoring the balance that our systems naturally have, but have then lost their way because of all the holding, all the suppressing. And so in that vein, something that's been really useful for me to create safety and create my willingness to move forward and trust this path is having time devoted like a ritual, a container in my morning that I said this time is for me to feel everything that I need to feel and literally put it all on the table and literally have this demarcation point into this container and out of this container.” Matt - (37:40) “There's an infinite amount of possibilities within us. And once you come in and realize that there are resources, there's an inner resource designed by your divinity to help you access and co-create these solutions that are far beyond what your mind could come up with. Your mind has knowledge, experience, and buffers. Your intuitiveness and your wisdom don't feel those risks, and so it presents them as you take that dive in, knowing there's mystery and unknown, and being comfortable with the unknown as this place of possibility.” – Debra (48:38) Our Guests Debra Hess is a sacred midwife who helps others navigate the Narrow Gate of Love. With years of psychotherapy, 500 hours in yoga teacher training, a Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy, and certifications in Laughter Yoga and Yoga Nidra, Debra has honed her skills in guiding individuals toward peace, wholeness, and happiness. Through her own healing journey, Debra has discovered that all of existence flows through us, and she considers it an honor to serve others with the joy that overflows from her own awakening. Matt Hogan is a self-mastery enthusiast and coach who has dedicated his life to living in alignment. From battling depression and attempting suicide to reaching the heights of corporate success and traveling the world, Matt's personal journey has inspired his work in helping prominent entrepreneurs, executives, and change-makers bring their full selves into their work and relationships. Today's One Whole Being Meditation is all about tuning into your inner resources. This is such an empowering practice and I am excited to share it with you. Your inner resources are those beautiful states of joy, peace, love, enthusiasm, inspiration, creativity, freedom, acceptance, courage, well-being and confidence. These are all internal states that are felt and found within. The world can sometimes help you to feel good, but the great news is that you don't have to wait. There is an abundant wellspring of these inner natural resources within all of us. Just as you can choose to tune into a specific frequency on a radio station, so you can choose to tune into one of your inner resources at times of need. Perhaps you've been feeling down and you need to tune into joy. Perhaps you've been feeling stressed and you need to tune into calmness. During this talk and guided practice, I will share with you how to connect with one of your inner resources. Once you learn and embody this practice, it's like winning the lottery. Only more than just winning money, you discover that the source of joy, love and peace are within you. Find a comfortable place to listen. The soundtrack contains crystal sound healing. #MindfulMonday We encounter emotional triggers throughout our day and sometimes we respond to them more skillfully than others. We can adopt a gentle acceptance of our emotional response. Instead of fighting against the trigger, we can recognize it and by doing so minimize it’s hold on us. This gives us space to be more skillful in the conversation, allowing the emotion to pass through us like a rather than fighting it.

In this episode, I'm talking to Suzanne Chambers who has a fantastic book that helps men deal with prostate cancer. Filled with tremendous insights and practical advice, this book should be prescribed like medicine.  In this interview, Suzanne shares: How to use your inner resources to better deal with cancer The importance of recognising your own instinctive reactions Becoming the expert on your own illness Separating the dubious advice from the truth 3 types of coping Making big decisions under stress How to deal with intrusive thoughts around cancer Links Facing the Tiger: A Guide for Men with Prostate Cancer and the People Who Love Them Suzanne Chambers Academic Profile Full Transcript Joe:                 Hello, my friends.  This is Joe Bakhmoutski and welcome to Simplify Cancer Podcast.  Today, I'm talking to Suzanne Chambers.  Suzanne is a psychologist who has been helping folks with cancer for many years.  She took all that knowledge and all of that experience and put it into a fantastic book called: Facing the Tiger.  That is specifically aimed at men dealing with prostate cancer, but most of the insights shared in this book is universal.  Suzanne is practical, down to earth, and profound.  I promise you're going to love it.  Suzanne, I know you've done so much more than writing this book, but please tell about yourself, about who you are, what you do and what you're passionate about? Suzanne:         Sure.  My background is that I'm both a registered nurse and a registered psychologist.  I've done many things in my professional history.  I started out as a registered nurse in intensive care.  That was a very dramatic profession.  Then I ended up working for the Cancer Council in Queensland, working with people with cancer in the community and developing community-based support services.  It was really a journey of learning for me that started there. This was back in 1989 I started working with people with prostate cancer.  My best teachers were the ones who had had cancer themselves, who were very generous with sharing their stories with me.  How I got into it, was I would go away and learn what the professions and what the research had to say, come to some conclusions about what might help people, and then I would bring it back to my community of people who had experienced cancer, and share that with them.  I'd say, “What makes sense to you out of this and how would you use this information?” It was a really collaborative process that developed my way of thinking from all of those years ago.  Obviously, that's a couple of decades ago, that informed how I think about coping with cancer and what I say to people with cancer when I'm trying to give assistance to them. Joe:                 That's fantastic, Suzanne, that you talk about it as a learning experience.  When you looked at the research and you tried to bring it into practice and get feedback from real-life people, did you find that in terms of the research out, did it align with how people tried to deal with it in real-life, so to speak? Suzanne:         I think it did.  The way that I look at research is, having cancer is really confusing for most people because it's a shocking experience for most of us.  Trying to make sense of it is really hard because you're stressed and your anxious.  The point of psychological research in this area, I always say, is to help us with a map.  To help us go, ah-ha, that's why I feel this way, that's what this means, that's what driving that, therefore, some ideas for how I can help myself might be this. From my point of view, if anyone is doing psychological-type research with people with cancer, they have to be very focused on being creative in finding solutions for people to help them in a difficult circumstance, manage the best they can.  Most people are doing the best they can, most people do well but sometimes you can get overwhelmed.

When you are insulted, you have the resource of patience. If you start thinking along these lines, soon you will find that you don’t have a single challenge for which you don’t have the resource to cope.” - Epictetus
