In this episode of Arteetude, I explore a media-archaeological question that reaches from the age of the printing press into the age of artificial intelligence: what happens when a medium does not simply spread information, but begins to standardise relief?Starting with the indulgence slip, I look at how the Church, through print, was able to reproduce not only doctrine, but also a scalable format of spiritual reassurance — a printed mechanism through which guilt, fear, hope, and authority could be organised, distributed, and monetised. The indulgence slip becomes, in this reading, more than a religious object: it becomes a media form, a repeatable interface between burden and institution.From there, the episode moves into the present, where AI appears not as a new religion, but as another powerful medium of relief. Not salvation from sin, but relief from uncertainty, overload, hesitation, formulation, searching, and decision-making. El Ayuntamiento de Rincón de la Victoria trabaja en un proyecto medioambiental sin precedentes para la zona de El Cantal con el que se creará una zona de protección para muchas especies marinas, a través de ecosistemas saludables y la creación de praderas submarinas. De hecho, ya se cultiva en el propio municipio la especie Cymodocea nodosa, con la que se crearán dichas praderas. Y esto es fruto de un estudio que confirma que es la especie adecuada. Se trata de un hito en Andalucía, logro del resultado del primer año de investigación del proyecto de colaboración que se firmó entre el Ayuntamiento de Rincón de la Victoria, la Cátedra de Ciencias del Litoral de la Universidad de Málaga, e Hidralia. El alcalde de Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado (PP), ha valorado “este hito que permitirá la creación de praderas marinas para la protección y conservación de los diferentes ecosistemas marinos que tenemos en El Cantal. Se trata de un proyecto histórico de investigación científica, innovación y transferencia para la preservación y mejora de nuestra riqueza submarina para nuestro municipio y la provincia”. “Se creará una zona de protección para muchas especies marinas que podrán implantarse en El Cantal creando ecosistemas saludables que serán visitables a través de la práctica del submarinismo”, explica. Salado ha felicitado al equipo del proyecto, dirigido por la Dra. Elena Bañares, y compuesto por siete investigadores de la UMA. Un equipo multidisciplinar formado por botánicos, microbiólogos, mineralogistas, químicos y un matemático del Grupo EDANYA, que son expertos en la modelización de tsunamis. También el alcalde ha querido destacar la importante colaboración con la Universidad de Málaga, “con la que mantenemos una estrecha relación desde hace años, entre otras, con la Cátedra del Litoral de la Costa de Sol de la Universidad de la UMA”. Sobre el proyecto, tanto el director de la cátedra y profesor de la UMA, Francisco Franco, como la investigadora principal, Elena Bañares, han explicado que “en una primera etapa se realizó un estudio submarino buscando en toda la Costa del Sol la especie candidata que permitiera la creación con éxito de una pradera marina en El Cantal. El estudio constató que dicha especie se encuentra en regresión en las costas malagueñas, por lo que se recurrió a una pradera donante de la costa almeriense. Tras solicitar los permisos oportunos de la Junta de Andalucía, se ha podido recoger una muestra, haciéndola crecer con éxito en el invernadero de Torre de Benagalbón con un sistema pionero. El siguiente paso supondrá la implantación de estos individuos en la zona de El Cantal para formar una pradera piloto”. El concejal de Infraestructuras y Playas, Sergio Díaz (PP), ha mostrado su satisfacción “por el logro obtenido que permitirá la construcción de unos sistemas de desarrollo adecuados a estas plantas como paso previo a crear la pradera de fanerógamas marinas en la zona de El Cantal. Este importante trabajo se une al que se viene realizando para la recuperación y protección de la diversidad marina de Rincón de la Victoria”. Por su parte, el consejero delegado de Hidralia, Marcos Martín, ha subrayado “la importancia del apoyo y colaboración de forma continuada con distintas instituciones públicas y privadas para fomentar la investigación y el estudio para poner en valor los ecosistemas locales”. Este proyecto pionero se puso en marcha el pasado año mediante la firma de un convenio entre el Ayuntamiento de Rincón de la Victoria, que ha cedido un espacio para desarrollarlo, con Hidralia que ha financiado el proyecto, y miembro de la Cátedra de Ciencias del Litoral de la Universidad de Málaga que coordina el equipo multidisciplinar. Sobre el proceso Cymodocea nodosa está siendo cultivada en el invernadero que se encuentra en las instalaciones municipales instaladas en el Arroyo Serrezuela. Allí, mediante un sistema creado específicamente para este proyecto, en seis tanques se sigue de forma pormenorizada el crecimiento de estas especies. La recolección de esta especie se realizó mediante buceo con escafandra autónoma y fueron trasladadas al laboratorio de Botánica del Departamento de Botánica y Fisiología Vegetal de la UMA. Posteriormente, fueron trasladas al invernadero de Torre de Benagalbón, donde fueron sometidas a un tratamiento específico para eliminar las posibles especies invasoras que pudieran estar adheridas. Tras este tratamiento se sembraron los individuos en el sedimento de los tanques de agua de mar. Semanalmente se controlan los parámetros ambientales y se realiza el seguimiento del crecimiento de los individuos, llegando a constatar un incremento tanto en la altura de las hojas como en su número. O projeto de extensão da UFOP “Ensino de Química Inorgânica por meio de experimentos simples e atrativos para alunos de 1° e 2° anos do Ensino Médio do município de João Monlevade/MG” se dedica a atender alunos de escolas públicas de João Monlevade, buscando reduzir problemas na aprendizagem dos alunos que não desenvolveram competências compatíveis com o ano/série que estão frequentando na disciplina de Química. O projeto acontece por meio de uma parceria do Instituto de Ciências Exatas e Aplicadas (ICEA) com escolas públicas municipais. Além da tutoria, os alunos têm a oportunidade de conhecer o Laboratório de Química do ICEA, onde eles podem ter uma experiência interativa com o local. Carlos Della Vedova es doctor en Quimica por la Universidad de la Plata e integra el Centro de Química Inorgánica (CEQUINOR) un instituto del CONICET que en logró la obtención de un elemento indispensable para la fabricación de baterías de litio en nuestro país: el flúor. Lo consultamos sobre la importancia del hecho y nos detalló el largo proceso de investigación conjunta con centros de investigación europeos, la formación del equipo de trabajo y el significado que tiene integrar el selecto grupo de países que pueden manejar esa técnica. Inevitablemente surgen en la conversación los distintos modelos de país y de ciencia y cómo enfrentar el ataque del gobierno a las instituciones científicas de nuestro país hoy.

El Ayuntamiento de Rincón de la Victoria la Universidad de Málaga, a través de la Cátedra de Ciencias del Litoral Costa del Sol, y la empresa Hidralia Gestión Integral de Aguas de Andalucía S.A, desarrollarán conjuntamente el proyecto de puesta en valor de los ecosistemas marinos en el municipio. Se trata de un proyecto pionero que ya se ha puesto en marcha con la firma de un convenio de colaboración firmado por el alcalde de Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado (PP), el rector de la UMA, Teodomiro López, el consejero delegado de Hidralia, Marcos Martín. Al acto de rúbrica, que tuvo lugar ayer en el ayuntamiento, también asistió el concejal de Infraestructuras y Playas, Sergio Díaz (PP), el director de la cátedra y profesor de la UMA, Francisco Franco; junto con representes del equipo de dirección de la UMA, y de los investigadores que participarán en este estudio. Salado ha valorado el “hito histórico que supone este proyecto para la provincia con una actuación de investigación científica, desarrollo e innovación de tal magnitud y características para la proyección y mejora de nuestra riqueza submarina”. Además, añade el regidor, “esta iniciativa también pretende crear una concienciación ciudadana en materia ambiental y, exponer el conocimiento de la biodiversidad en la zona marítima del término municipal”. También el alcalde ha querido destacar la importante colaboración con la Universidad de Málaga, “con la que mantenemos una estrecha relación desde hace años, entre otras, con la Cátedra del Litoral de la Costa de Sol de la Universidad de la UMA con estudios realizados del agua de mar durante la pandemia o control de algas en nuestro litoral”. El objetivo principal del proyecto será caracterizar, desde un punto de vista botánico y ecológico, las comunidades de angiospermas marinas y Cystoseira presentes en el litoral de Rincón de la Victoria, para conocer su estado de conservación y los impactos a los que están siendo sometidas. Con los resultados obtenidos, a través de los cultivos de semillas de esta especie, se valorarán las posibles vías de mejora y conservación de estas comunidades y también se contribuirá a la mejora de la calidad ambiental de las aguas marinas costeras. Para realizar parte de este proyecto se contará con una aportación económica de 15.000 euros realizada por parte de Hidralia. El equipo de trabajo de la Universidad de Málaga que participará en la realización del proyecto estará formado por los investigadores de la Cátedra de Ciencias del Litoral de la Costa del Sol, Elena Bañares España (profesora del departamento de Botánica y Fisiología Vegetal e investigadora principal); Francisco Franco Duro (profesor del departamento de Química Inorgánica, Cristalografía y Mineralogía y director de la Cátedra de Ciencias del Litoral de la Costa del Sol; y Antonio Flores Moya (catedrático del Departamento de Botánica y Fisiología Vegetal). El rector ha explicado que con acciones como ésta “la universidad pone de manifiesto uno de sus objetivos principales: la generación de conocimiento y su transferencia a la sociedad”. Así, ha agradecido al Ayuntamiento de Rincón de la Victoria y a Hidralia su colaboración, y a los profesores participantes su trabajo de investigación, que “van a poner el nombre y el sello de la UMA en un proyecto tan importante para la preservación del medio marino”. Por su parte, Marcos Martín ha asegurado que “la generación de conocimiento es una de las apuestas clave de Hidralia, una empresa que apoya y colabora de forma continuada con distintas instituciones públicas y privadas para fomentar la investigación y el estudio para poner en valor los ecosistemas locales. Este convenio es una prueba más de este modelo y de la estrecha colaboración que mantenemos con la Universidad de Málaga para mejorar la salud ambiental de los territorios en los que gestionamos el ciclo del agua, como es Rincón de Victoria”. El Ayuntamiento de Rincón de la Victoria viene trabajando desde hace varios años en la implantación de un convenio, con otras administraciones y organismos que deseen adherirse para establecer un horizonte de trabajo en el que se fomente y se ponga en valor el litoral del municipio, tanto a nivel de conservación como a nivel de conocimiento ante la ciudadanía. De hecho, el consistorio avanza en la creación de un arrecife artificial en la zona de El Cantal siguiendo su estrategia de apuesta por la recuperación y protección de la diversidad marina de Rincón de la Victoria.

Los catedráticos de Química Inorgánica, José María López de Luzuriaga, y Química Orgánica, Héctor Busto, y la investigadora Carmen Bretón, detallan las ventajas y los beneficios del Instituto de Investigación de Química en la Universidad de La Rioja.

Para este episodio me senté a conversar con Nicolás Veiga. Nicolás es Doctor en Química, y es docente grado 4 del Área Inorgánica del Departamento Estrella Campos de la Facultad de Química (Udelar). Tiene cuatro grandes líneas de investigación que van desde la química computacional, pasando por la impresión molecular, al análisis estadístico en investigación didáctica. En 2021 fue ganador en el área química del premio Caldeyro Barcia, que premia la excelencia académica en ciencias básicas. Además fue mi primer profe de práctico en facultad de química, y ahora es uno de mis tutores del doctorado. Para este episodio me senté a conversar con Feriannys Rivas Pinto. Fery es doctora en química y docente (G2) del Área Química Inorgánica del Departamento Estrella Campos, de Facultad de Química. Forma parte del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores en el nivel Iniciación y su investigación se ha centrado en el área de la Química Inorgánica Medicinal. En su tesis de doctorado desarrolló metalofármacos potenciales para el tratamiento de enfermedades parasitarias y más recientemente, en el encapsulamiento de éstos compuestos en sistemas nanométricos. En su tiempo libre canta, baila, maquilla y/o mira por la ventana. En este episodio quizás hayan un par de expresiones que no conozcas de antes, o que vendría bien repasar, porque las dijimos muy alegremente, así que aquí hay un pequeño glosario: cuando decimos DT nos referimos a “dedicación total”, eso es un tipo particular de cargo docente de la universidad de la república (boludato extra de este episodio, acá mismo en la intro, el régimen dedicación total se creó en 1958), para docentes cuyo trabajo se centra en la producción de conocimiento. La movida es que te dedicás exclusivamente a tu cargo académico, no trabajás en otro lado, y tenés un extra en el sueldo. Acceder a la DT no es fácil, hay que presentarse con antecedentes y una propuesta de trabajo, así que es un gran logro tener DT. También vas a escuchar las palabras compuesto, o compuesto de coordinación, eso es un conjunto de átomos, pero que no es una molécula como el agua ni una red como una sal, sino otra cosa, en la que tenés un átomo o ion central, que suele ser un metal, y alrededor de ese centro tenés otra cosa, puede ser una molécula o iones, unida al centro, que se llama ligando, porque esa cosa está, unida, ligada, al centro. El enlace entre el centro y el ligando se llama enlace de coordinación y capaz que no lo viste en el liceo, por ejemplo, en lo personal, me desayuné de su existencia cuando entré a facultad. Además de hablar de compuestos de coordinación, hablamos de su investigación, del fatídico día en que decidió dedicarse a la investigación, de su experiencia como científica migrante y, como siempre, del éxito y del fracaso.
