AJ and Graham are joined by former OHLer and current member of the North Dundas Sr Rockets Derek Froats to chat about playing senior hockey, what drives him to continue playing and the season that has been with the finals taking place now.
After winning the girls 115-pound weight class last weekend at the state wrestling tournament, Brunswick High freshman Kate Virgilio is this week's guest on The Final Score podcast. Virgilio chats with host Greg Swatek about her championship victory — she pinned Liberty's Aubrey Ohler in 5 minutes, 55 seconds after being pinned by Ohler earlier in the season — and the road that led up to it. She talks about how she got her start in wrestling and what it's been like wrestling and beating boys for most of her young career to this point. She chats about the difference when it comes to wrestling girls. And she talks about the legacy she'd like the leave and the opportunity she hopes to create for other girls in wrestling across the county. Prior to that conversation, FNP sports writer Alexander Dacy joins Greg to discuss the end of the winter sports season after the Middletown boys and the Oakdale girls lost in the state basketball semifinals. They talk about the Knights' loss to New Town and the Bears setback against South River and how both teams acquitted themselves well against high-powered opponents.
Po sérii dílů literárního podcastu TL;DR o českých prózách přišel čas na time-out a tedy non fikci. Sáhli jsme po novince německého novináře a autora veleúspěšné a šokující knihy o drogách ve třetí říši Totální rauš. Novinka Na tripu: Nacisté, CIA a úsvit psychedelického věku mapuje o něco známější historii LSD a také magických hub a psilocybinu.

Welche Rolle spielen dabei in manchen Kontexten Diagnosen? Ohler also talks about his father's use of LSD to help his mother with Alzheimer's and the legal issues they faced. The conversation delves into the CIA's experimentation with LSD and the manipulation of individuals, as well as Ohler's research process and the challenges of accessing archives. The conversation explores the discovery of LSD and its potential as a medicine, as well as the political and societal implications surrounding its use. It delves into the history of LSD, including its connection to Nazi Germany and the CIA. The discussion highlights the need for more research and understanding of psychedelics, and the potential benefits they may have in treating mental health conditions. The conversation also touches on the importance of set and setting when taking psychedelics, and the need for responsible use. The cultural attitudes towards drugs differ between Germany and the US, with Germany being more conservative and less informed about psychedelics. LSD was initially developed as a medicine by a Swiss pharmaceutical company, and its potential therapeutic uses are still being explored. The CIA's involvement with LSD was driven by the fear of its use as a truth serum and the desire to manipulate individuals. Accessing archives and original sources is crucial for accurate historical research, but it can be challenging to find specific information. LSD was discovered by Albert Hoffman and initially developed by the pharmaceutical company Sandoz as a potential stimulant for the mind. The discovery of LSD led to research on its potential therapeutic benefits, including its use in treating depression and other mental health conditions. The political and societal climate of the time, including Nazi Germany and the Cold War, influenced the perception and regulation of LSD. There is a need for more research and understanding of psychedelics, including their potential benefits and risks, in order to make informed decisions about their use. Set and setting, as well as responsible use, are important factors to consider when taking psychedelics.

Norman Ohler's latest work, "Tripped: Nazi Germany, the CIA, and the Dawn of the Psychedelic Age," delves into the shadowy history of LSD, tracing its origins from the laboratories of Nazi Germany to its pivotal role in shaping U.S. drug policy through the CIA's MKUltra program. This book explores how the Nazis' initial interest in psychedelics for mind control evolved into a tool for psychological warfare, eventually influencing America's stance on psychedelic drugs during the Cold War. Ohler's meticulous research uncovers the hidden connections between these historical adversaries, revealing how the quest for a 'truth serum' and mind control techniques not only delayed therapeutic psychedelic research but also laid foundational elements for the War on Drugs. "Tripped" continues Ohler's theme of examining history through the lens of substance use, offering a provocative narrative that challenges conventional historical narratives and highlights the profound impact of drug policy on societal development. They discuss the history of pharmaceuticals and the early research on LSD, including its origins in Nazi Germany and its use by the American military and intelligence agencies. The negative consequences of the war on drugs and the need for a more responsible approach to substances are highlighted. The potential benefits of microdosing LSD and its effects on mental health are explored. LSD was explored by the CIA as a potential truth serum and mind-control tool, but it did not meet their expectations. LSD can provide therapeutic benefits when used in a controlled and supportive environment, allowing individuals to gain insights into themselves and the world around them. The CIA's involvement with LSD led to its spread in the cultural scene, particularly during the 1960s and 70s, where it became associated with the anti-war movement. The American government made LSD illegal due to its popularity and perceived threat to their war plans, but illegal LSD chemists continued to supply the substance. LSD has shown promise in reducing neuroinflammation and enhancing neuroplasticity, making it a potential treatment for neurodegenerative diseases. The rejection of psychedelic medicines by regulatory bodies like the FDA is seen as a hindrance to progress and a reflection of the influence of pharmaceutical companies. The erosion of democracy and the current political climate are seen as obstacles to the psychedelic revolution that could lead to positive societal change. Keywords: Flint, Michigan, water crisis, pharmaceuticals, LSD, Nazi Germany, CIA, mind control, microdosing, LSD, CIA, truth serum, mind control, therapeutic benefits, insights, cultural scene, anti-war movement, illegal, neuroinflammation, neuroplasticity, neurodegenerative diseases, FDA, pharmaceutical companies, democracy, political climate, societal change
In his final days, Adolf Hitler wallowed in self pity, sent children into war, and held tea parties into the wee hours of the morning. He also threw himself a birthday party. The guest list was a real who's who of Most Evil Humans! Ultimately, Hitler decided to take his ball and go home. (And by that, we of course mean that he shot himself and went to hell.) In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Nathan Ohler discuss:Moving past the status quo to something different.Saving yourself pain and frustration by crowdsourcing your problems with peer advisory groups.Topics that come up frequently in lawyer peer advisor groups.Top benefits of peer advisor groups for the members. Key Takeaways:In peer groups, you can realize that your firm's problems are not unique to you and those problems are solvable.Goals and tactical plans are related but are not the same thing. You need to have a tactical plan in place to achieve your goals. It is 2% about the goal and 98% about the tactics and habits.Finding and retaining talent now, both young attorneys and support staff, is different than it was in the past. There are many different ways that peer groups or masterminds - not every type will work for every person, but there is a benefit in actively participating in these groups. "It is just linking back to these problems, and getting solutions to them. Hearing what is working from my peers who are living something similar to what I'm living. And I want to hear a diversity of solutions. So then I can go internalize which of those I want to test out. That environment of being able to hear not just one example, but maybe 10 is really powerful." — Nathan Ohler Take the BE THAT LAWYER challenge at Fretzin.com/BTLChallenge! On this episode we hear from Irene. The founder of a leadership development called Light Path Leadership based in Saigon, after a career in leadership development across four continents. And she has become known for women in leadership and even wrote a book about the stories of Vietnamese women in 2016. Going back to her origin story she is Austrian and because she loves the unknown, she decided to study sinology at university. Which then took her to China in the early 2000s and made her career in adult education, at a time when executive coaching was unknown in China. When she came to Vietnam and started working with women, she was approached to design a leadership program for women in hospitality, which they called HER TURN. In this program one important thing that she introduced was including sponsors, both male and female, for the program participants, because they will be the ones who have the power to advance your career.
In TRIPPED: Nazi Germany, the CIA, and the Dawn of the Psychedelic Age (Mariner Books; on sale April 9), Norman Ohler, New York Times bestselling author of Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich, returns with a provocative new history of drugs and postwar America, exposing the hidden connections between the Nazis and the early days of drugs in the United States. Based on extensive archival research on both sides of the Atlantic, TRIPPED examines how fascist experiments into psychedelics covertly influenced CIA research and secretly shaped America's War on Drugs. As Ohler reveals, "When most people think of LSD, they don't think of the Nazis, and yet that unseen hand played a role in framing our laws around this class of drug and in limiting our ability to use psychedelics for medical research." In fact, Ohler was inspired to explore this topic as a result of his own mother's medical condition. His father wanted to know why he couldn't just get LSD at the pharmacy for his wife if it was supposed to help treat her Alzheimer's disease. It was this question-why can't patients in need of psychedelic therapy access it?-that launched Ohler on his investigation for TRIPPED. Unlike cannabis which is on the precipice of global legalization, psychedelic substances containing promising healing potential are still bound up with taboos. With TRIPPED, Ohler aims to alleviate the fear and disinformation around these drugs by educating readers on the untold story behind them.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
Tripped: Nazi Germany, the CIA, and the Dawn of the Psychedelic Age by Norman Ohler https://amzn.to/3PWxLlE The author of the New York Times bestseller Blitzed returns with a provocative new history of drugs and postwar America, examining the untold story of how Nazi experiments into psychedelics covertly influenced CIA research and secretly shaped the War on Drugs. Berlin 1945. Following the fall of the Third Reich, drug use—long kept under control by the Nazis' strict anti-drug laws—is rampant throughout the city. Split into four sectors, Berlin's drug policies are being enforced under the individual jurisdictions of each allied power—the Soviet Union, Britain, France, and the US. In the American zone, Arthur J. Giuliani of the nascent Federal Bureau of Narcotics is tasked with learning about the Nazis' anti-drug laws and bringing home anything that might prove “useful” to the United States. Five years later, Harvard professor Dr. Henry Beecher began work with the US government to uncover the research behind the Nazis psychedelics program. Begun as an attempt to find a “truth serum” and experiment with mind control, the Nazi study initially involved mescaline, but quickly expanded to include LSD. Originally created for medical purposes by Swiss pharmaceutical Sandoz, the Nazis coopted the drug for their mind control military research—research that, following the war, the US was desperate to acquire. This research birthed MKUltra, the CIA's notorious brainwashing and psychological torture program during the 1950s and 1960s, and ultimately shaped US drug policy regarding psychedelics for over half a century. Based on extensive archival research on both sides of the Atlantic, Tripped is a wild, unconventional postwar history, a spiritual sequel to Norman Ohler's New York Times bestseller Blitzed. Revealing the close relationship and hidden connections between the Nazis and the early days of drugs in America, Ohler shares how this secret history held back therapeutic research of psychedelic drugs for decades and eventually became part of the foundation of America's War on Drugs.About the author Norman Ohler is an award-winning German novelist, screenwriter, and journalist. He spent five years researching Blitzed in numerous archives in Germany and the United States, and spoke to eye-witnesses, military historians, and doctors. He is also the author of the novels Die Quotenmaschine (the world's first hypertext novel), Mitte and Stadt des Goldes (translated into English as Ponte City). He was co-writer of the script for Wim Wenders' film Palermo Shooting.
Matt Crawford speaks with author Norman Ohler about his book, Tripped: Nazi Germany, the CIA, and the Dawn of the Psychedelic Age. Tripped, traces the roots of LSD to Germany during WWII and the Nazi's nefarious experiments to use it for mind control to the CIA's own interest in it for similar purposes. All the while the U.S government pushing the narrative that it was a dangerous drug and ignoring its benefits. Ohler highlights the corrupt U.S drug policies and the lack of scientific study that could have helped so many, to his own family's experimentation with it to treat his mother's dementia. As always Ohler does not disappoint, and this is impossible to put down.

In TRIPPED, his intriguing new history of drugs and postwar America, the German writer Norman Ohler makes LSD both a symbol and a metaphor for the history of the Cold War. Linking Nazi Germany, the CIA with what he calls “the dawn” of the psychedelic age, Ohler presents LSD — the revolutionary psychedelic drug invented by the Swiss pharma giant Sandoz which the Nazi tested as a “truth serum” in Dachau — as a weapon used by the American military-industrial complex to fight the Soviets. As with most anti Soviet CIA plots, of course, it was a bit of a farce - although Ohler's thesis certainly offers an alternative way of interpreting trippy Cold War movies like Doctor Strangelove and The Manchurian Candidate. And Ohler reminds us of the psychedelic age's most lasting legacy - its influence on West Coast countercultural figures like Ken Kesey, Stewart Brand and Steve Jobs and their invention of the personal computer and internet.Norman Ohler is an award-winning novelist, screenwriter, and journalist. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller Blitzed, the non-fiction book The Bohemians about resistance against Hitler in Berlin, as well as the novels Die Quotenmaschine (the world's first hypertext novel), Mitte, Stadt des Goldes (translated into English as Ponte City), as well as the historical crime novel Die Gleichung des Lebens. In today's episode, we'll dive into the psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy of aesthetics. Find out how your brain senses aesthetic experiences, how aesthetic senses can influence your behavior, and why people have studied the field of aesthetics for so long.About Dr. Cliff Workman: When we judge people for their moral or prosocial behaviors, do our perceptions of their beauty influence our evaluations? I am interested in understanding how morality and beauty interact to modulate decision-making. Prior to joining the ChatLab, I was a postdoctoral scholar in the Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at the University of Chicago under the supervision of Jean Decety. Our work investigates the psycholigical and neural mechansisms underpinning political polarization and support for ideologically-motivated violence. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Manchester in England in 2016 where I investigated relations between moral cognition and emotions and the physiopathology of major depression. Before starting my PhD, I worked at Johns Hopkins University on neuroimaging studies of psychiatric disorders, and also completed a B.S. in Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where I worked on studies of clinical, cognitive, and social functioning. Hitler's military forces achieved immense success in the early years of World War II by making the Blitzkrieg (or “Lightning War”) central to their offensive strategy. Norman Ohler, author of Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich, tells the story of how methamphetamine enabled this success, sometimes over the opposition of medical and military skeptics, and how its value diminished as the war dragged on. Even more fascinating is the story Ohler tells about Adolf Hitler's extraordinary consumption of oxycodone, cocaine and an ever evolving concoction of hormones, steroids, vitamins and quack remedies administered by injection by his personal physician, Dr. Theodor Morell. Initially helpful in enabling Hitler to perform and project strength, the drugs ultimately fed his megalomania and delusion and quite likely shaped the decisions he made in the latter years of the war, when Dr. Morell became his most frequent and trusted companion.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ne. In a podcast episode with award-winning author and screenwriter Norman Ohler, Dr. Puder and Dr. Borecky discussed Ohler's recent book, Blitzed, about how the Third Reich used drugs to optimize performance during World War II and how it may have changed the course of history. Did you know of the drug use of methamphetamines and cocaine in the Nazi regime? 'Blitzed' by Norman Ohler (a novelist turned semi-historian & back again) argues that drug use was rampant in the German military of the 1940's as well as in the highest command (amongst Hitler and his direct subordinates). Ohler interprets historical events by focusing on the personal physician of Hitler, a man named Dr Theodor Morell, and his administration of opiates and meth to the Führer from 1941-1945.I summarised the book as follows. "It's a super book that obviously contains a large amount of research. It might have been slightly sensational but as a whole paints a fair picture of the drug use that was happening during the Nazi regime. It adds a whole other perspective about the Wehrmacht and the state of Adolf Hitler during his final years. I would recommend to read some drier history books first to get a grasp of the 100% historical facts before reading this book as it does take some liberties and dramatizations of certain scenes."As always, we hope you enjoy, Mere Mortals out!Timeline:(0:00) - Synopsis(2:29) - Meth: One hell of a drug(5:50) - Interpreting History: The unwinnable battle(8:30) - Personal Observations(10:49) - Summary(12:47) - Pragmatic Takeaway: I'm going to try Meth!Connect with Mere Mortals:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/meremortalspodcast/Support the show
