In the small cottage Robert comes across a startling telegraph, that was partially burned. He doesn't know who sent it, and he doesn't lay much stake to the fact that it was half burnt, but he keeps it and sets out after George as normal. Where did it come from? Who sent it? Synopsis On today's date in 1928, the Danish composer Carl Nielsen conducted the first public performance of his new Clarinet Concerto in Copenhagen. “The clarinet,” said Nielsen, “can, at one and the same time seem utterly hysterical, gentle as balsam, or as screechy as a streetcar on badly greased rails.” Nielsen set himself the task of covering that whole range of the instrument's conflicting emotions and colors. He wrote it for a Danish clarinetist he admired named Aage Oxenvad, who played both the public premiere on today's date and a private reading a few weeks earlier. After the private performance Oxenvad is supposed to have muttered: “Nielsen must be able to play the clarinet himself — otherwise he would hardly have been able to find all the instrument's WORST notes.” The concerto's wild mood-swings puzzled audiences in 1928, but today it's regarded as one of Nielsen's most original works. In October of 1996, another Clarinet Concerto received its premiere when American composer John Adams conducted the first performance of his work Gnarly Buttons with soloist Michael Collins. This concerto contains a bittersweet tribute to Adams' father, a clarinetist who fell victim to Alzheimer's disease. In Adams' concerto, the swing tunes slide into dementia, but the concerto ends with a kind of benediction. Each individual is chosen and bought by paying a price-the precious Blood of Jesus Christ. Whatever be the colour, cast, creed, status the price paid is the same- the precious blood of Jesus. So, those who are in Christ, in the fast changing Econoic conditions of the world market, the price tag is the same. It remains unchanged- the value of the precious blood. It is offered for all. It has a definite purpose wash the sin from the world and it serves it. We have nothing do for it. Just accept it, help others to get it and live with it eternally with our Holly Father.

The SBC annual meeting occurred this week. Jay and George take this opportunity to have an honest conversation about their experiences in the SBC. Goerge was born and raised SBC while Jay became SBC by choice as an adult. Even so, both have serious concerns about the SBC and the trajectory of some of those issues. This is a big episode and the guys talk about many different things from cronyism and theology to CRT and sexual abuse. Conformed to Christ aims to engage the mind, affect the heart, and call people to follow Christ. Additionally, our aim is to introduce and explain passages of Scripture and difficult theological doctrines in a down-to-earth and easy-to-grasp manner. Theology and the Bible should impact your life and our goal is that we might play a small part in seeing that happen. ***Be sure to subscribe on iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spotify, or Podbean*** iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/conformed-to-christ/id1503247486 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkLnBvZGJlYW4uY29tL2NvbmZvcm1lZHRvY2hyaXN0L2ZlZWQueG1s Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5YruCZu4hla6Ll3rBu7UPY Podbean: https://conformedtochrist.podbean.com/

In this episode, George and Christina recall their somewhat spontaneous trip to Oregon. They took a flight the next day following their engagement to buy Goerge's dream truck but that didn’t go quite as expected. Nevertheless, they met up with some college buddies ate a lot of food, and also hiked up to some waterfalls. All in all, their trip was a success as they found a truck, not in Oregon but in Washington. From there, they cannonballed, 1000 miles back in 2 days so that George could eat cake. Today, we talk to George Bryant, whose contribution to the Brand Builder Summit was viewed as the most impactful and helpful by the entrepreneurs in the audience. So without further ado, here is the go to guy that everyone goes to! The OZ behind the curtain: George “the middle name moniker” Byant. Side Note Wine with Wyan comes back in 2019 — subscribe on YouTube and Facebook!!! Key Takeaways [4:50] Ryan introduces the newly monikered: George “The OZ” Bryant! [6:59] What does it ethical scaling look like on a tactical level? ● Paid media strategy ● Affiliate marketing strategy ● Massive amounts of influencer campaigns — building long term relationships ● Email marketing — George's favorite: people just don't know how to use it though! ● Organic traffic — his #1 play space: no, you didn't miss the boat. ● Amazon strategy Basically, the tactics are all about figuring out all of the places where you can meet your customer. [7:46] Personally answering 11 000 DMs is something Goerge will still do. No matter how much you complicate it, or how many times it's been done before, or what formula you're using, business is business and at the core of it is a customer. That is the relationship that gets to be built: anything that doesn't serve that isn't necessary. That means that when you show up in a space, create content that your customers like and engage with, you have to meet them there: you need to respond and build that relationship. Devil's advocate [12:22] Hank asks how this applies to his sock puppet company. People don't buy from brands, they buy from people. Imagine if you take away the Internet and shoot back to brick and mortar companies... to be competitive you have to build those relationships. The better you do that, the more your customers self-identify, the higher your price-point can be, the more you can scale. It still applies in the digital world! [15:50] Do you need to find the balance between building a relationship and playing the numbers game? Considering 82% of marketing is done via word of mouth, you should only give people positive things to say about your brand. No means no, Hank, don't shove your sock puppets in people's throats — instead, hear their no and find the give: build the relationship make them like you even if they don't buy from you! [24:27] Ryan always pictures “scaling” as a big thing, but George sees scale as a more micro endeavour: you can only scale one person at a time. When working with a brand, find one influencer and dial in their micro audience, you can then duplicate this process with multiple influencers, generating scale. [27:57] We tend to wait for the 10k or million fan influencer to shout us out, and we ignore the existing advocates of our brands: the 100 people with 10k fans who are already selling our products to all of their cousins! [28:38] The problem with influencer marketing is that everyone is trying to solve it with the same solution, not realising that each influencer is different and wants different things, but all are looking for mutually beneficial relationships. [31:00] Ethically scaling means focusing on the customers, and actually doing what you say you will do. If you build your business around mutually beneficial, long term, 2-way relationships, customers will follow you and your product will get legs. Only promise what you are willing to fulfill. And do what feels natural to you. [34:54] The transaction is nothing more than building a connection, the product is a bridge. There are 3 things people need to change anything in their life: 1. Permission: storytelling for self-identification 2. Safety: built through the touch points that build a relationship 3. Accountability: when they buy, do what you say you will [38:43] Sock-puppet-Hank wonders how to make the transition from what he used to do, to ethical scaling and relationship building? Ask the customers. Get to know them, visit their social, what are they saying about you? Mic Drop [44:46] If you try to build a tower on a faulty foundation it will crash every time. The foundation has to be a relationship with your customers that is not predicated on their credit card. [46:00] People can find George on Instagram @civilisedcaveman. Thanks for listening! Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan recap the PBS drama Poldark. It's the Season 3 Premiere and we are ready for Puffy Shirts and Slo-Motion Scything! Two hours of pounding seas and galloping horses and dewey-skinned maids. Poldark is back! And don’t think we’re not still mad at your Ross—because we ARE. Maybe Demelza forgives you for the sake of the series, but we can still be bitter about your dalliance with Elizabeth. And mainly we’re mad because Elizabeth looks beautiful, even while giving birth. Very quick recap of two hours: Ross and Demelza have reached a détente—but it’s an uneasy one with the borth fo Elizabeth’s child approaching. In classic soap opera fashion—is it Ross’s baby? Or it is Goerge’s baby—her new detestable husbands? Dr. Ennis and Caroline continue to delight with their wrong side of the tracks love story and secretly marry—but because of freaking Elizabeth going into labor, they can not consummate the marriage. Meanwhile, everyone’s dying. Demelza's awful, father; Caroline's lovable but grumpy old uncle and possibly Elizabeth and the baby—who comes 5 weeks early. Ahem. It’s a lunar eclipse and that brings out the Crazy in Aunt Agnes who curses the baby. Demelza’s two brothers show up after Awful Dad dies and start working in the mines and preaching ot the people. This looks to be a good storyline introducing the young bucks—Drake and Sam. And lucky for Drake that Elizabeth has an impoverished niece who shows up to nanny for Geoffrey Charles. We think her name is Morwenna. Watch out, Elizabeth—because Dewey skinned beauty has met her match. Verity arrives for the Valentine’s baptism and we love her. Then everybody nearly deis or possibly dies again—Dr. Ennis in the Navy and Verity’s husband—Captain Old guy. Ross turns down a job to be magistrate and heads off to France to find Dr. Ennis. And a Pirate shows up! Arghhhh. We have NO IDEA what this Captain Hook is saying. Finally, Demelza stares out at the sea… and she's preggers!

Edward Snowden’s leaks about NSA surveillance have been a hot topic in the media for the last few months. But what do lawyers, specifically, need to worry about? The answer is: a lot. On this edition of Digital Detectives, hosts Sharon D. Nelson and John W. Simek take the stage and examine NSA surveillance as it relates to lawyers. Again Thanks for making Radio America # 1 in Comedy for this long Thanks Grace Ethel Cecile Rosalie Allen was born into a show business family; after being educated at Star of the Sea Convent School in girlhood, she teamed in vaudeville with her sister, Bessie, in 1909. She met George Burns and the two immediately launched a new partnership—but they did not click until Burns cannily flipped the act around: after a Hoboken, New Jersey performance in which they tested the new style for the first time, Burns's hunch proved right. Gracie was the better laugh-getter, especially with the "illogical logic" that informed her responses to Burns's prompting comments or questions. Allen's half of the act was known generally as a "Dumb Dora" act, named after a very early film of the same name that featured a scatterbrained female protagonist, but her "illogical logic" style was several cuts above the Dumb Dora stereotype, as was Burns's understated straight man. The twosome worked the new style tirelessly on the road, building a following, and finally playing the vaudevillian's dream: the Palace in New York. They fell in love along the way and married in Cleveland, Ohio on January 7, 1926—somewhat daring for those times, considering Burns's Jewish and Allen's Irish Catholic upbringing.[2] (For her part, Allen also endeared herself to her in-laws by adopting his mother's favourite phrase, used whenever the older woman needed to bring her son back down to earth: "Nattie, you're a nice boy," using a diminutive of his given name. When Burns's mother died, Allen comforted her grief-stricken husband with the same phrase.)
