Lego Brandon!!! That's the type of thing I'm saying, when I want to express a feeling I think I'm trying to have, but don't really have the courage or belief in myself to see it through completely. And plus, I'm stupid and my breath stinks and I probably am not that good at wiping my butt so there's still some “crust” left behind in my shorts. Yeah, that's the kind of guy I am. I'm thinking…I'm that guy. On today's show we're raising a cup to Obama and asking him to protect us from the rise of the funnies. Plus it's that classic showdown of Porbeagle vs Oncle…Momondo, ladies and gentlemen! Momondo! Music for YKS is courtesy of Howell Dawdy, Craig Dickman, Mr. Baloney, and Mark Brendle. Skal du have pladsbilletter?

We have two quotes to share. This is the first time that we've had two quotes on one episode. Both of the quotes are by Mark Cuban. Mark Cuban is best know for being the majority owner of the dallas mavericks and an investor in the show shark tank. So these quotes actually go hand in hand. The first quote readsIt's not in the dreaming, it's in the doing.and the second quote readsThe best way to predict the future is to invent it. I love how motivating both these quotes are and they actually go hand in hand. You can dream all day but it means nothing without action. You can determine your future by putting together a plan of execution. Sometimes fear holds us back from moving forward. Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure. You can not get to where you want to be in life without action. The first action is the dream, the second action is the plan and the third action is the execution. Once you execute don't look back. Don't look for validation from others. You are doing this for yourself. If you give up because others don't validate your dreams or your ambitions, one thing is for sure, it will be over before you get started. Do it for yourself. The only way to know where you future is going is to plan it. Anything is possible if you are the one creating the path. Now this week i have some simple tips for booking airline tickets One thing I love to do is to travel. I don't care if it's a road trip that takes 2 hours or seven hours. If you're ready I'm ready. But there's nothing like getting on a plane to get to your next destination. The further the better. Always start your search on your computer in incognito mode so that the sites don't save cookies to your computer or save your IP address. This can cause the sites to offer you higher deals in the future or possibly not showing you lower rates after you've seen higher rates. By the way its always a good tip to clear your cookies on a regular basis. I have a few sites that I like to start with. For example Skyscanner, Google flights, kayak or momondo. Most of the flights shown on these sites are sold through a third party broker or travel agency. Skyscanner is one of my favorites. Most of these sites allow you to register your email and will send you daily or weekly updates with price changes of your chosen itinerary. Sometimes I don't like to include my information because I don't want my information tracked so I will just search trips manually periodically. Whenever booking flights if I find a deal, let's say on Skyscanner, I never book with the brokers on the site. I go directly go to the airlines website or call them directly to book the tickets. When you book through an online broker you don't technically own the ticket. The owner of the ticket is the third-party broker. Brokers sell some of their tickets on sites like Skyscanner. One thing I've found is that these seats that are booked through brokers are often the first seats to get the boot when the flight is overbooked. If you own your ticket you are much less likely to get canceled when the flights are over booked. Plus making changes is harder with a third party than working directly through the airline. They don't always like make changes to a ticket that was already sold where you may not be subject to refunds or changes. Another tip is to make sure when using these aggregator sites to refer to the airlines website for specific baggage fees as this varies per airline and is not normally not displayed on these types of sites. Remember flexibility is key when booking airline tickets whenever possible. I love the calendar view or the date graphs where you can visually see which dates are the cheaper days to fly on. Also, flexibility in being open to different arrival or departure cities can make a huge difference. Sometimes you can save hundreds of dollars just by arriving to a nearby city and taking the train into your planned city, especially when flying into Europe. Many times a train ride is just 30 minutes away. So if you have the time try this option. Once I find the best dates with departure and arrival cities I cross-check the prices with the other aggregator sites to see if one of them will show a cheaper deal. Then you can call the airline to see if they can guarantee that price directly with them. Well that's all the tips for booking airline tickets for now. I will share more tips on a later date. SUMMARY In her book Passports and Pacifiers: Traveling the World, One Tantrum at a Time, Kaitlyn Jain, mother of four and a world traveler, shares her travel tips and family adventures. On every trip, Jain brings along her positive attitude and sense of humor while she and her husband balance careful planning with spontaneity. To afford their globetrotting, the Jains find deals and hone their parenting and packing skills. Part memoir, part guide Passports and Pacifiers is sure to inspire even the most reluctant parents to pack up the kids and go! KEY TRAVEL TIPS Meal-planning: take lots of snacks; realize peanut butter is considered a liquid and is not found in most other countries (“Every culture has something that’s bland…that the picky eater will eat.”) Sleeping: break up the day with scheduled naps; drive during naptime (“Parents lose forty-four days, or over a thousand hours, of sleep in in the first year of an infant’s life.”) Top priorities: budget is number one; packing what you need but not more than you can carry; having a flexible itinerary Packing: start a week in advance by using a list (always including a pair of pants, sturdy shoes, and a swimsuit); do laundry at least once on the trip; let older kids bring a backpack (one carry-on); minimize equipment Disciplining in public: remember kids have tantrums at home or abroad; welcome the kindness and help of strangers; don’t shame others QUOTES FROM JAIN “As parents, we experience life again through the eyes of our children. Sometimes that may involve ghastly moments, but I have found that…more often, we get to relive the highlights.” “Travel exposes kids to so many intangible benefits—seeing and trying new things, expanding their perspective, learning compassion, and experiencing different cultures.” “Yes, sometimes there are tantrums and things don’t go according to plan…but, like raising kids, travel with them is rewarding. It is entertaining. It is memorable and awe-inspiring. I will take those occasional meltdowns for the opportunity to see my kids’ raw reactions….” “Not every baby likes to fly and not every kid will eat whatever they’re given. However, we find that when our kids get three essential things—sleep, food, and exercise—they tend to behave. Even while traveling.” “Pacifiers aren’t just the physical object a baby puts in her mouth to suckle. They are those things that soothe us, our comforts of home.” BUY Passports and Pacifiers: Traveling the World, One Tantrum at a Time RECOMMENDATIONS Exciting news!
What’s up? Enjoy :-) Transcrição Hi, everyone, how's it going? Is it boiling in Brazil yet? Here in my neck of the woods it's getting colder and wetter every day. Sorry, I didn't mean to brag... Anyway, I thought that having a look at one of these booking websites where you can search and find your flight would be a good idea. There's some interesting vocabulary involved - let's dive right into it. The website I'm looking at has kind of a funny name: Momondo. I'm looking at it right now and... What does it look like? At the top you have sort of search form where you enter the airport you're departing from. And then you enter the other airport where your flight is supposed to arrive. You enter first the three-letter code for the departure airport - let's say you're departing from... if it's an international flight, maybe you're departing from Guarulhos, which is GRU. Or if you want to go somewhere, I don't know, in Brazil and you're departing from São Paulo, you're going to enter CGH which is the three-letter code for Congonhas, then you enter the dates. The date (when) you're going to depart, and then if it's a round trip you're going to enter your return date as well... Or maybe you're just looking at a one-way ticket and then you only enter one date, which is the departure date. Then you hit Search and when you look at the results you, obviously see a list of flights. Several options from several different airlines, and you'll be able to see the dates - usually it will be the dates that you entered. You'll be able to see, for each flight, how many stops, how long each stop takes... The time of the flight, and then you have some options: either you'll see a few direct flights, which are usually more expensive, and you will see some flights with one, or two, or sometimes even three stops. There are some flights that - with all the stops - take, sometimes, over 24 hours. If you want to save some money maybe that's the flight you choose. And then, when I scroll down on the search results, I see multiple different airlines. I see some traditional ones like TAP, which is a Portuguese one, KLM, which is a Dutch one, British Airways... And then on the left side of the search results there's the sidebar with additional options. Right on the top you have... almost at the top, you have the option of, I guess, narrowing down your search by number of cabin bags, or checked bags that you want to take, and also the payment method. What is a cabin bag? That's... that's also known as a carry-on bag. That's sort of, that smaller bag - when you board the plane you take it with you, and you sort of put it in the overhead compartment above your seat. Or, if that is full, you kind of tuck it away under the seat in front of you. Usually the flight attendants will help you with that. That's the cabin bag or carry-on bag. And then you also usually have a checked bag, depending on... if it's a budget flight, sometimes you have to pay quite a bit of money to be able to take a checked bag with you, and for other flights, longer flights... It's included in the price. You can take a checked bag with you, which is actually that larger bag. It's that large suitcase where you put all your clothes. If you're traveling for a month, you'll probably need a large suitcase. You stuff all your clothes in there, and your toiletries, and your shoes and whatever else you want to take with you. That's the larger bag and obviously you can't board the plane with that bag. You have to get to the airport with some time in advance and check that bag. And then scrolling down a bit further, I find that there are some options for "flight quality": you can choose "show Wi-Fi flights only", "show flights with multiple tickets for booking", "show red-eyes". This is an interesting expression. A red-eye flight is any flight departing late at night and arriving early the next morning.

This is part 2 of our chat with Utsav Mamoria, on travel. Make sure you check out Part 1 here - https://ivm.today/SIMB-137 Chuck and Naren talk to Utsav Mamoria, who makes his third appearance (!) on the show. The last time, he spoke about how he was preparing for a 3-month sabbatical (Episode 85) - this time, he's back and is ready to share his experiences, stories and most importantly - tips for those who want to travel on a budget. A desi budget. Utsav finished an enviable itinerary at a cost you won't believe. He is hard at work on his travel book, as well - make sure you check it out later in the year. We talk about budgeting for flights, stay, food, sightseeing and more. This is less 'Simblification' and more 'chat with a person very passionate about travel'. He also slips in some beautiful stories, and evangelizes slow travel, as opposed to trying to check off as many items as possible in a day. Csonka Gábor, azaz Vándorboy 12 éven át utazott a világ körül, eddig 153 országba jutott el. Most már főleg azzal foglalkozik, hogy másoknak segítsen elindulni. Ezért is szervezi a Járatlan Utakon fesztivált, immáron 7. alkalommal. Miért választotta a stoppolást? Mi a helyzet a védőoltásokkal? Milyen gyógyszereket vigyünk magunkkal? Hogyan védekezzünk szúnyogok ellen? Helyi betegséget helyi gyógyszerrel kezeljünk? Vagy ez is csak egy legenda? Talek Nantes has a lot of experience traveling the world and makes five to six international trips every year. Her mother traveled from Cuba to New York while she was still pregnant with Talek and owned a travel agency; this exposed Talek to the world and she does not remember a time where she wasn’t learning about different people and their cultures. On this week’s show, Talek has some age-old advice for the newbie traveler as to what to do when you've stepped foot in a foreign country and things to be aware of so you don’t get ripped off! Key Takeaways: *What inspired Talek to travel solo? *What was Talek’s big ‘ah-ha’ moment when it came to solo travel? *So many women think solo travel is something only ‘college-aged’ women do. Not true! *The more time passes, the less likely you are to travel alone. *If you’re afraid of danger, start slowly, travel to countries that speak English or travel within the United States. *It’s easier to travel these days with the use of technology! *When Talek travels to a new country for the first time, what are some of the things she does to get familiar with the surrounding areas? *Talek has been to over 100 countries and does about five or six international trips a year. *What was Talek’s trip to New Zealand like? *Where has Talek traveled to, throughout her life? *What advice does Talek have for those who might not feel very comfortable traveling to China? *What kinds of resources does Talek like to use while researching for a new trip? *Do your research, but don’t over-plan! It takes some of the excitement out of it. *Always asks how much something costs before buying it. It may sound dumb, but very rarely do we do this consistently. Talek spent $80 on a manicure because she didn’t do this. *Don’t be afraid to be a bit assertive and impolite. Sad to say, but people try to take financial advantage of women because they don’t think they’d protest. *What’s next for Talek? Martin Sandholt is a Frontend Designer at Momondo, with a father who tried to teach him C++ as a child, a strong graphical eye, he graduated as a Multimedia Designer. He have startup experience but is now in product design. You might know him in the local UX community where he with my co-host Dovile runs the UX/UI Design Meetup. He sees himself as a generalist, going through the full journey of the product. He makes order out of chaos, he’s structured and the sense of making something that's what needs to work from a functional perspective as well. He sees that UX and frontend is merging more now a days and belives we’re seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to channels. There is a saturation of travel search engines these days that will do everything from find a cheap flight to offering tips and advice on best hotels, restaurants and sights to visit. So how does one stand out from the rest? On this episode, Jason Hartman talks with one of Momondo’s partners, Martin Lumbye. Launched in 2006, there were fewer travel search engines, but today, the web is crowded with them. Momondo has very sophisticated search technology, but being based in Denmark posed a challenge to becoming a global brand. Thanks to the media, they succeeded. As the market became more saturated, Momondo’s leaders came up with a unique, but user-friendly and contemporary approach for travelers to find the best flight comparisons and destinations around the world: a color-coded system to match a traveler’s emotions/mood for travel. For instance, if traveling with children to a city, you would choose green for a list of family-friendly destinations. If you’re looking for something trendy and vibrant in a city, you would choose hot pink. Martin Lumbye is a Partner of Momondo, which was launched in Denmark in September 2006. His role at Momondo encompasses: marketing, communications, business development and all commercial arrangements. Momondo has rapidly become one of Scandinavia’s most popular travel meta-search sites. Today it is an international site with a very compelling range of services which enables consumers to quickly search for and book a trip. Services include: flights, car rentals, hotels, travel guides, multi-destination booking and many high-speed rail routes.
