It's easy to leave a job when you're miserable. It's way harder when you're happy. And David Wise loves his day job.  And that's why the 34-year-old freeskier has decided to push to make his fourth Olympic Team despite being one of the older competitors in freeskiing.  "I still love going out there and grinding and doing this day in and day out, and so I don't want to stop before I feel like I'm done," David said.  David is a three-time Olympian who has won two gold medals and a silver in ski halfpipe.  His trophy case is full of titles and awards he's won since he was a teenager. At 34, he's a veteran of his sport. But that's not the only thing that makes him stand out.  David is also married and a father of two.  That's unusual in his sport and he's always said having a family has given him a balance many athletes lack. His daughter homeschools and sometimes travels with him to training and competitions. "Now, my daughter's 13 years old," Wise said. "She has teenager problems." On this Dying to Ask:  How to know if you're really happy at work  The question David asked himself and his family when deciding to go for a 4th Olympic Team. Named to the Women's National Team at 16, Maggie has continued to represent her country at every major international championship since. At 19, she was a member of the 2012 gold-winning squad at the London Olympics, where she played alongside her older sister, making them a truly dynamic duo! Not only did the Steffens sisters bring home gold, but Maggie tied the Olympic record with 21 goals and earned the title of team MVP.Four years later, Maggie led Team USA to a second consecutive gold medal as the captain of the U.S. Women's Water Polo team at the Rio Olympics. In 2019, she made history by leading the team to their first-ever three consecutive FINA World Championship titles. A year later, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she helped the team secure yet another gold medal.Maggie won three National Championships (2014, 2015, and 2017) at Stanford University where she graduated with a degree in science, technology, and society in 2017. She also earned NCAA Tournament MVP honors, and received multiple accolades, including MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) Player of the Year.Maggie continued her studies at Stanford, completing a master's degree in management, science, and engineering and then went on to play professionally in Budapest and Barcelona before returning to Long Beach, CA in the summer of 2019 to train for her third Olympic games. On Mindful Warrior Radio, Maggie tells us that the goal of leadership as a team captain is to “trust yourself enough to let go and trust your preparation.” She explains that the advantages of doing so are being able “to be yourself, not only out of the water but also in it, whether it's taking a risk, going for the shot, or swimming a bit faster when it matters. It's about building trust in yourself, and in turn, trusting others—your teammates, your coaches, and the shared mission of the team. Reaching that level of trust is hard, but it's a big part of what allows your light to shine. After all, it's hard to let that light shine if you don't have trust in yourself, others, and a common purpose.”About the leadership challenges of being a team captain, she says, ‘I'm constantly thinking about the team, even as I'm going to bed. Of course, I'm focused on how I can improve, but I also ask, what does the team need? What does each player need? How can I approach each situation? Being captain has really emphasized that responsibility. I'm always thinking about the team; that's just who I am. And it can be challenging to balance fostering team development and harmony while still putting in the effort to become the person I want to be.”To learn more about Mindful Warrior and Mindful Warrior Radio, please follow us on Instagram @therealmindfulwarrior and check out our website at www.mindfulwarrior.com

10-time Olympic swimming medalist Caeleb Dressel is happy to be back on his Florida farm after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. His results were mixed. He knows that. He knows he fought hard, and he didn't exactly have the Olympic Games he wanted. At a minimum, he's just glad he did it, went to Paris, because there were two moments when he thought he might not go at all. Dressel thought a repeat of the 2022 World Championship would happen, when he abruptly left in the middle of the competition. After making The U.S. Olympic Team at the U.S. Olympic Trials, in the middle of the meet, Dressel considered pulling out. Mentally he was battling---at war in his head. His wife, parents, and therapist were all there, all supporting him. So, he pushed on. After the U.S. Olympic Trials, Dressel considered pulling out again. He wondered if it would be better to give other, up and coming swimmers a shot at the Olympic stage. Dressel battled these thoughts. At one point, he considered only swimming the Olympic relays. It all made sense in his head. We now know Dressel completed his Olympic schedule, and in this podcast he gives a beat-by-beat account of what he experiences. It's real, raw, and courageously vulnerable.

Next, they move over to another historic franchise coming off a disappointing offseason in the Golden State Warriors as the former dynasty lost Klay Thompson & missed out on Lauri Markkanen, leaving Steph Curry & Draymond Green on an island for the first time in their careers, inspiring a debate on if the Dubs have done enough to maintain a roster good enough keep Steph in the Bay for the rest of career. "When I quit after college, I genuinely thought, ‘That's it. I'll never go back to track.' I just wish I'd heard more stories like mine where you take a huge break, get back into something that you love, and make it to a really high level… It's just nice to know that there's not one route to make it to the Olympics." Georgia Bell and I connected after she just ran 3:56.54 at the Monaco Diamond League to become the second-fastest British woman of all time over 1500m. She had shared that she's a fan of the show and I've been following her story closely this season and it's remarkable.  She quit track seven years ago after finishing up her college eligibility at Cal – but after dabbling in the duathlon, she decided to make a comeback this year. It has been nearly perfect as she has won the British 1500m indoor and outdoor national titles, finished 4th in the World Indoor Championship final, earned a European Championship silver medal and is now headed to the Olympic Games for Team GB. She did much of it in the beginning of the year while balancing a full-time job in cybersecurity. She trains under coach Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows and in the same training group that included Olympic silver medalist Keely Hodgkinson. Georgia explains how her training set-up works since she's still living in London most of the time and has to do much of her own training solo – while also still incorporating a bunch of biking. “I'm still processing everything. It still very much feels like a dream. I keep telling everyone that every morning I've woken up since the race, I keep having to check my phone, check the date, and make sure I've already raced and that it's not coming up. I was like, ‘Wait, that actually happened, right?' I feel like for me it's been a lot of processing, a lot of pinch me moments, but a lot of joy.” Sister duo Juliette and Isabella Whittaker join us live in Eugene after their breakout performances at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. Juliette qualified for her first Olympic team by placing third in the 800m and Isabella took 6th in the 400m final. “I definitely feel like having that success indoors with the two titles helped me gain confidence in my ability to close down a race and win a race in any way. Whether it's a fast race, slow race, I'm equally as confident. For the rest of the outdoor season, it definitely helped me be not as concerned as the gun went off that I was going to be able to close well off of any kind of race.” Newly minted Olympian Nico Young joins the show after qualifying for his first Olympic team in the 10,000m at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. Bomani Jones starts the show by sharing his thoughts on Game 2 of the NBA Finals by specifically mentioning Luka Doncic's number 1 fan, Nick Wright who was in attendance. Bomani then tries to figure out what's wrong with Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Mavericks. (0:50) And following the Game 2 win by the Celtics, Bomani gives his props to Jaylen Brown and Joe Joe Mazzulla. But also brings up Joe Mazzulla's strange answer in a press conference a few days ago and why he is a bit of a weird guy. (11:40) We then transition to Caitlin Clark who is in the headlines once again, this time because she was left off the Olympic team. Bomani stresses the way the headlines were worded as left off vs not earning a spot, and why people arguing she should be on the team for business reasons instead of basketball reasons are straight up wrong. (22:00) Finally we get another round of If You Haven't Heard Stories and your voicemails of getting beat in basketball by a woman. (42:30) . . .
