In part one of of this special two part Reppin, we met Pardeep Kaleka a first-generation immigrant from Punjab, India who lost his father at the hands of a white nationalist. Pardeep took his grief and transformed into into something powerful and positive. Now In Part 2 of this compelling conversation, we meet Arno Michaels who takes us deep into the world of extremism. Arno was a former founding member of one of the largest white nationalist groups in the 90s. He bravely shares his journey of how he became entangled in a self-proclaimed Racial Holy War and the reasons behind embracing such dangerous ideologies. Despite knowing the wrongness of his actions, Arno found himself drawn to the adrenaline-fueled thrill of violence, perpetuating hate and causing chaos. "I believe the truth is, they're really both addictions." As time went on, Arno reflects on the mental gymnastics he had to perform to cling to his extremist beliefs, fueled by fear and a scarcity mindset. However, amidst the darkness, a powerful realization begins to break through his armor of violence, setting him on a path towards compassion and unity. Prepare to be amazed as Arno's transformation unfolds, revealing the potential for change and redemption even in the darkest times of our lives. Now, alongside Pardeep Kaleka, Arno works as a motivational speaker, sharing their co-authored book, "The Gift of Our Wounds," and traveling the world to speak out against hate and extremism. This episode is a powerful continuation of Arno's remarkable journey, proving that even amidst the deepest shadows, the light of change and redemption can emerge. Pardeep and Arno's powerful stories illustrate the transformation of grief into positive change and combatting hate with compassion and love. Their journeys demonstrate the potential for powerful change in their own lives but also unity and action when people from different backgrounds come together. Disclaimer: This episode contains violence and graphic content. Listener descretion is advised. What happens when you bring two very different people together, with opposite backgrounds and beliefs? Can something powerful and positive come out of a violent act and devastating loss? You're going to hear an inspiring story of perspective and transformation. Today, Pardeep Kaleka is a first-generation immigrant from Punjab, India. His father, a visionary, made the courageous decision to uproot their lives and embark on a new journey in America. As one of the first Sikh families in their Milwaukee neighborhood, they faced unique challenges. Undeterred, his father's unwavering belief in the American Dream became their guiding light. Pardeep's father built a temple so the Sikh community would have a place to congregate. But on Aug 5, 2012 In a devastating act of violence, a white supremacist stormed their sick temple, tragically taking the lives of seven innocent people, including Pardeep's beloved father. But here's the thing—Pardeep didn't let darkness consume him. Instead, he embarked on a mission of rebuilding, and community building. He said, "In the aftermath of tragedy, I refused to let darkness consume me. Instead, I embarked on a mission of rebuilding, community building, and spreading hope and unity.” We'll hear his heartfelt account of the trauma and the emotional journey of reconciling conflicting emotions. You'll learn about his father's final moments and the impact of his final acts to leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and sacrifice. Through my father's final acts, he left behind a legacy of love, strength, and sacrifice that continues to inspire and guide me." - But there's a twist! Pardeep challenges us to rethink how we perceive "monsters." He invites us to empathize and understand the societal failures that contribute to their creation. Get ready to be inspired by the transformative power of community as we explore our shared responsibility in shaping a brighter future. This is part 1 of an amazing two part conversation. You'll witness firsthand how tragedy brought him to the doors of another white supremacist and how that grief ultimately forged an unlikely friendship. In this episode, we're focusing on compliance considerations in the insurance world. Our guest this week is Pardeep Bassi. He is currently Global Proposition Leader of Data Science for WTW, or Willis Towers Watson, a publicly traded financial services firm based in the United Kingdom. This week Pardeep covers two different topics with us. First, he discusses some areas where regulation intersects with AI applications in insurance and what the potential data risks for elements such as transparency, personal data use, etc., are. Secondly, Pardeep dives into how leaders might consider these regulatory rules in their adoption strategy. Not only to meet regulatory compliance rules but also to potentially use AI to address them. This episode is brought to you by Smarsh and is part of a broader series on AI applications for compliance and communications intelligence. Si & Veronica are waking up for episode 220! Nayte took to instagram to clear up any cheating rumors and admits to how people could get a fuckboy vibe from him but that is truly not the case. Elizabeth Corrigan from Clayton's season (and the other half of Shrimpgate) came out as bisexual this past weekend with Pride. Caelynn Miller Keyes went on Dean's podcast to clapback about some comments around how he hasn't given her a ring yet. Do you think his argument of how she has more money and should get him a truck first holds any weight? The Bachelor franchise is no stranger to whitewashing and racism, but this time it might've held Pardeep back from the beach. We want more brown folks on the beach! Pilot Pete almost had his own flight to the beach but said that contract disagreements held him back. Sure, Jan… (Bachelor talk ends at time marker 29m:48s) The BET Awards were this past weekend (all four hours of them) and we got some great performances from Chloe and Brandy and some not so great ones from Giveon. The Sanderson sisters will be returning to spook up your screens this fall with a Hocus Pocus sequel. First Cardi B had Kylie in her “WAP” music video and now she's going to the other side of the house to have Ye on her new track, “Hot Shit,” that is out this Friday! The author of “My Life After Hate” and co-author of “The Gift of our Wounds,” a restaurateur, mentor, and peacemaker, Arno Michaelis details the rise and disengagement of a white supremacist. The trauma clinician, co-author of “The Gift of Our Wounds,” Executive Director of Interfaith Conference, speaker and global peacemaker Pardeep Kaleka is the embodiment of infinite fortitude and wisdom. The horrendous mass shooting of August 5, 2012 by a white supremacist snuffed the life of Pardeep's own father at a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin, US. His unconventional response to this vile attack was rooted in his faith and willpower to heal as an individual and a community. I focused on kindness and interfaith understanding, not on white supremacists, after my father, William L Corporon MD and oldest son, Reat Underwood, were murdered on April 13, 2014, by a self-proclaimed neo-nazi. When prompted to click a link, engage in a live conversation, or watch any type of documentary pertaining to the hateful ideology that led to the murders of my beloved, I would physically remove myself from the situation. Already shattered, I had no intention of potentially harming myself further by giving time to this hateful rhetoric. My path of choice led me to meet Jon Willis, founder of Kansas City Interfaith Youth Alliance. We formed a partnership in hiring Clare Stern to oversee youth engagement and leadership in the areas of interfaith dialogue. Ms. Stern introduced me to the Parliament of the World Religions. In 2018, I found myself walking the halls of the Metro Toronto Convention Center as one of 8300 humans desiring to fulfill the theme of the seventh world-wide interfaith conference…”The Promise of Inclusion, the Power of Love”.I was stunned to find Pardeep Singh Kaleka, a kindred shattered soul, in conversation with a former white supremacist, Arno Michaelis. Unfortunately, Pardeep and I share the pain of losing our family members to violence ignited and fueled by hate. As the author of, The Gift of our Wounds, Pardeep found opportunities for post traumatic growth and healing after the murders of his own father and friends at the Sikh Temple in Oakcreek, Wisconsin on August 5, 2012.Taking on the role of family and temple communicator only hours after a gunman took the lives of six on location and a seventh, who died in 2020 from his wounds, Pardeep found that sharing the stories and lives of his father and friends was a natural path for him.As a former law enforcement officer and educator, Pardeep wanted to control the narrative providing empowerment to his Sikh community. By directing attention to what they COULD do after the murders rather than focusing on them being victims of hate he asked himself and others to redefine forgiveness. Relying on the three tenets of Sikhism 1. meditation upon and devotion to the Creator, 2. truthful living, and 3. service to humanity, Pardeep was instrumental in founding Serve 2 Unite.Currently, a trauma clinician and the Executive Director of the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, Pardeep shares with me in episode 36, “Making His Child a Priority, Saved Their Lives”, his own desire for humans to heart-speak; speaking from one heart to another. He continues to place a high priority on allowing mental health and faith health to walk hand in hand.Isn't this what scriptures from the Bible, Torah, Quran, and the Adi Granth tell us? Each of these religious sources also provide an avenue for forgiveness.Try it.•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. Guest Overview First of all thanks Stephen Hecht for the recommendation. Born in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Arno Michaelis grew up in a caring loving family but the combination of being told he could achieve anything while witnessing his artistic mother's suffering from dealing with her husband's alcoholism drove him to bullying and vandalism at school; to by age seventeen, becoming deeply involved in the white power movement and a founding member of what became the largest Neo-Nazi skinhead organization in the world. For years he followed the path of violence until he was confronted at a McDonalds checkout by elderly African American lady with a smile and pointing at his swastika tattoo - “Saying that is not you, you are better than that” That moment started his path to redemption. This is a two parter. Part One Arno recounts his early years and his descent into violence, and how a mass killing at a Sikh temple in 2012 led him to form a bond with Pardeep Singh Kaleka, whose father was murdered in the temple by a white supremacist gunman in a Milwaukee suburb. The gunman who killed Pardeep's dad and five others, was a member of the white power group that Arno had founded years earlier. Part Two we cover Arno's path away from extremism, his recent book with Pardeep Singh Kaleka -The Gift of Our Wounds, the work he is doing to promote the practice of peace, traveling, speaking and working with all kinds of reformed extremists to confront hateful ideologies through storytelling, fearless creativity and compassion.I hope you are inspired by the kindness, gratitude, and compassion of Arno Michaelis What we discuss? The impact of an elderly African American server in McDonalds defied him with kindness and destroyed his self identity in one comment. Rooted in storytelling, this presentation leads people to realize every opportunity to practice compassion by exploring their own experiences of suffering and bearing witness to the suffering of others. The story is one of triumph of love over hate and of two men who breached a great divide to find compassion and forgiveness. When white supremacist Wade Michael Page murdered six people and wounded four in a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin in 2012, Pardeep Kaleka was devastated. The temple leader, now dead, was his father. His family, who had immigrated to the U.S. from India when Pardeep was young, had done everything right. Why was this happening to him? Meanwhile, Arno Michaelis, a former skinhead and founder of one of the largest racist skinhead organizations in the world, had spent years of his life committing terrible acts in the name of white power. When he heard about the attack, waves of guilt washing over him, he knew he had to take action and fight against the very crimes he used to commit. GUEST: Arno Michaelis - Former Skinhead, speaker, author of My Life After Hate and works with Serve 2 Unite, an organisation that engages young people of all backgrounds as peacemakers. GUEST: Pardeep Singh Kaleka - Author of “The Gift of Our Wounds” Trauma therapist and Co-Founder of Serve 2 Unite
Pardeep Singh Kaleka lost his father in a vicious hate crime. A member of a white supremacist group walked into a church with a gun and it changed Pardeep's life forever. Now he works with the founder of that same group in an effort to heal the racial divide in America. In this week's episode, Pardeep explains how he recovered from losing his father and what it took to get his life back on track. Part of that included confronting the man who started the hate group that eventually took his father's life. That meeting changed the path of both men forever. Hear their amazing story and find out: How to pick yourself back up after tragedy Why victim mentality keeps the cycles of hate going Why identity politics are being pushed and what it's doing to society The one thing we need to do as a society to get past our racist past Why censorship and ostracizing people only makes the problem worse What holding on to pain does to your own mental health How to build bridges instead of walls (and why you should) What the heck Generational Trauma is and how it affects us And a lot more Listen Now
It started out like any other day. The family was running late for church. Gas prices were up again. But it was a beautiful Sunday morning. Then, an uneasy feeling set in. Squad cars from multiple jurisdictions seem to be converging on their destination. As they get closer, they see the whole block is lit up with police sirens. Something was definitely not right. That's the day that changed Pardeep Kaleka's life forever. Had he been on time, his life might have ended. His father wasn't so lucky. That morning, a White Supremacists had targeted their church for a mass shooting. Pardeep's father was one of the people shot in the rampage. But rather than let this ruin his life, Pardeep made it his mission to go out and start healing the pain of racial division in the world. Join us as he tells you his story in his own words, and what he's now doing as a result. Warning: This one is powerful and emotional. Listen Now.

In this episode of the AwokenWord podcast, Anuj Rastogi sits down in studio with Pardeep Singh Nagra, championship boxer, athlete, historian, educator, public speaker and human rights advocate. Pardeep is the Executive Director of the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada, and a champion of equity within the public school system. In the 1990s Mr. Nagra was barred from competing in a Canadian boxing championship because of his beard, which is a mandatory article of his Sikh faith. These real-life events would go on to become the basis for the Hollywood movie about Pardeep's life entitled "TIGER", starring Mickey Rourke, Prem Singh and Janel Parrish Anuj and Pardeep discuss in depth some critical points in 20th century Sikh history, recurrently overlooked contributions made globally by Sikhs, racism, driving actual change in human systems, being an example for our children and making the world a more aware place. Special Guest: Pardeep Singh Nagra.
Court is in session! Criminal lawyer Adam Goodman is joined by Barry Davis to discuss Pardeep Nagra, a Sikh boxer, who was asked to shave his beard to continue to box professionally in 1999. The Canadian amateur boxing association refused to let him box, so Pardeep and his lawyers took his case to the Ontario Superior Court. Should a lawyer go to court or a tribunal for issues of this nature? Are these rules, put in place by the CABF, fair? Is it simply there for aesthetic reasons? Does wearing a beard jeopardize the safety of the competitors? How would the precedents set by this case affect future cases in other sports and situations regarding rules and regulations that cross over into civil rights? These questions and lengths to which the Canadian Amateur Boxing Federation went to prevent Pardeep from boxing are unpacked. The ripples from this story inspired the movie Tiger, so its roots run deep into the public sphere. All that and more… Its all laid out for you on Outta The Court.
How hard would you fight for your beliefs? How many rounds could you last in a battle of discrimination? Join the TNQ Podcast as they welcome Canadian boxer, and Sikh religious rights activist, Pardeep Singh Nagra to this week's show. Navy SEALs, Marcus Luttrell, David Rutherford, and The Wizard welcome Pardeep to share his greatest #neverquitstory and the epic battle he waged for his right to fight. Pardeep’s amazing stance for his faith has inspired millions across Canada and the United States, and his epic story recently told in the movie "Tiger," staring Mickey Rourke and Prem Singh. Prepare to go toe to toe with your grander sense of religious equality and freedom. #greatstoriesignitelegends Support the show.

On August 5, 2012 a white supremacist walked in to the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, WI and killed 6 people. After the attack Pardeep Kaleka, son of the slain temple president reached out to Arno Michaelis, a former white supremacist. Now, 6 years later, the two are friends and working together to prevent violence. They’ve formed a non-profit, Serve 2 Unite, and recently completed The Gift Of Our Wounds, a book about their backgrounds and experiences since the Sikh Temple shooting. In today’s podcast, Not In Our Town Founder Patrice O’Neill sits down with Pardeep and Arno to discuss their new book and share their stories.
In recent years, ethno-nationalist movements have had an apparent resurgence. What can we do to counter the hateful ideologies that have led to so much harm? Arno Michaelis, an ex-neo-Nazi, and Pardeep Singh Kaleka, whose father was murdered by a white supremacist, say that a combination of lovingkindness (Pali, metta) and relentless optimism (Punjabi, chardi kala) is the only path forward. The pair came together after the 2012 Sikh temple shooting in a Milwaukee suburb that left Kaleka fatherless. The gunman, Wade Michael Page, who killed Pardeep’s dad and five others, was a member of the white power group that Arno had founded years earlier. (Arno had since left the organization and later became a Buddhist.)How Arno and Pardeep met and began working together to spread their anti-hate message is the subject of their new book, The Gift of Our Wounds. Here, they talk to Tricycle web editor Matthew Abrahams about their lives and their mission.
