_______________________ Buildings are major energy consumers and therefore also major emitters of greenhouse gases. Building automation is key to achieving climate targets - especially as many factories, office buildings and warehouses now have to be retrofitted by law. Rainer Haueis, General Manager of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, and Peter Hug, Managing Director of the VDMA Automation + Management Association for House + Building, explain the consequences of this, but also the opportunities offered by this tightening of the law. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure sustainable building operation and the technologies required for this are available. Studies show that the energy savings from building automation exceed the required investment costs many times over. (Podcast in englischer Sprache) Produktion: New Media Art Pictures

Rising yields and a stronger dollar from earlier this week have put pressure on gold, but the long-term macroeconomic fundamentals have not changed for the metal's bullish outlook, said Peter Hug, global trading director, who added that we are still in the early innings of a bull cycle. “I think gold has been mirroring the dollar and the dollar has been strengthening in the beginning of this week on the 10-year [yield] surging. Last Friday when we spoke the 10-year was trading around 1.12%, 1.14%, it's now at 1.32%. So the yields on the 10-year have been going up this week and that has moved some assets into the dollar,” Hug said.

And whilst it's happy playing somewhere, it is probably not going to inflate anything else," said Widdup."I think we've seen a pretty reasonable run of risk money into the mining sector...but we really haven't seen the washout of tech, and if that was to happen, it might be bad for the equity market broadly, but mining would be the beneficiary in the years that follow."Kitco Roundtable also reprised its interview with Peter Hug, Global Trading Director of Kitco.Plans to short-squeeze silver to never before seen prices circulated on Reddit. The resulting anxiety has led to a rush to cash. Peter went neutral/negative about a month ago. Two elements in the metals markets, one is raising cash by investors who had large profits and the fear trade is in full force and they’re moving into cash away from metals. Metals get hurt in a financial collapse until there’s governmental intervention. The market is hooked on continuous infusions of stimulus and pulling it back will cause nasty withdrawl pains. There’s no cohesiveness in government at all. Peter is sticking to his end of the year gold price estimate of $1911, but it could be low. We have not seen the high on gold yet in this wave.

If they go higher, it could be a real boost. Once gold breaks the next resistance point around 1420, gold could close out the year around $1550. Let's see what happens next.

Peter Hug has been in the gold industry for nearly 40 years which makes him an expert in my opinion when it comes to gold. Now to be honest, I am not a fan of gold (yet). In fact, I have never once invested in gold because I have personally never liked gold as an investment. So, why am I willing to learn more about gold now, right? First off - I don’t know much about gold. One of my rules is I do not invest in things I don’t understand. Therefore, investing in gold was never something I was comfortable doing. Secondly, (I thought) gold didn’t have a great track record when compared to the equity markets. From what I do know, the the price of gold has increased by 355% over the past 30 years, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average has increased by 1,255% during that same time frame. But, now I am also learning that over the past 15 years, gold has outperformed the market. In fact, gold has returned 355% over the last 15 years (same as the 30-year return) while the Dow has returned only 58%. After seeing the facts, I decided to ask Peter to come on the show to see if he could convince me gold was a viable option. Here are some of the takeaways from my interview with Peter. Today we discuss: The history of gold Why gold is NOT a strategy for “when the world ends” How gold plays an important role in investing and diversification How much gold should you invest in? The overall track record of gold as an investment When gold is not a good fit Other investments related to gold   All the show notes, links and anything Peter and I mentioned can be found at https://www.moneypeach.com/session116
