Rachel Drake is a professional trail runner with Nike, co-host of The Trail Network Podcast, mom of 2-year old Lew, and a newly-minted medical resident in Salt Lake City, UT. A few weekends ago, she ran, won, and broke the course record for women at the JFK 50 Miler in northern Virginia—a huge accomplishment on its own, but especially considering all of the above.  We talked to Rachel about her time as a collegiate athlete, finding trail running and a close community of friends in that space when she moved to Portland OR, and eventually getting back to racing on the trails and roads (and doing it well!).  And she shared the full story of her postpartum running process, getting a sacral stress fracture soon after she got back into high volume training. "We don't hear about the struggle, and I think the struggle is the predominating experience," she said, when we talked about her injury and how she felt like she wasn't seeing as any stories about setbacks. How so often, what's shared is centered around the wins, the course records, the "bounce backs".  Tune in to hear Rachel's full story, and what she's eyeing for 2025!  Follow Rachel on Instagram @RachelRaeDrake.  Follow Lane 9 @lane9project on IG. We brought some joyful and fluid-tastic vibes to this great episode! The main topic involved us picking our jaws off the floor as records were absolutely annihilated at the JFK 50 Mile, America's oldest ultramarathon. We have some inside info on how David Sinclair set the record, which we think could be Ultra Performance of the Year. Plus we worship the queen, Rachel Drake. Why are we seeing record after record get smashed at every major race? The answer likely lies at the intersection of training, shoes, and most of all--fueling. We also talked about a breakthrough new study from the Boston Marathon. Researchers found that the prevalence of low energy availability indicators was associated with worse performance and health outcomes. Find your strong, and you will find your fast! And this one was full of fun topics! Other topics: David recording through fluid adversity, Megan taking one for the team because she loves the podcast mornings, the "Shoot Your Shot" mini-documentary on the Javelina 100, the frontiers of lubrication, lessons from Ryan Sullivan's incredible long-term progression, Shelby Houlihan returning from her ban, why we want to uplift forgiveness, a question on embracing competition, and Listener Corner. This is the talk from our 10:45 service on 29th September 2024. In this talk on Galatians 5:22-23, Rachel explores what it means to host the Holy Spirit in our lives and cultivate the fruit of the Spirit. Drawing from Galatians 5 and personal anecdotes, she emphasizes that as believers, we all have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. However, the extent to which we experience the transformative power of the Spirit depends on how well we "host" Him. Rachel offers practical suggestions for tending to our spiritual lives, such as spending time in the Word, asking the Spirit to fill us afresh, and learning from others who exemplify the fruit of the Spirit. She reminds us that it is ultimately God who produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in our lives as we make space for Him. Whether you're a new believer or a seasoned Christian, this talk will encourage you to cultivate a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit and experience the abundant life He offers.

Her journey to becoming an artist, though, and becoming a mother, was born from a stretch of unimaginable grief. One certainty is learned from this conversation with Rachel: when presented with loss, she has the unmistakable knack of creating. Rachel went to the golf course — alone — in 2020, to find solitude. It took. Now, her golf art accounts for a majority of her business; and she can paint Pebble Beach's 7th hole with her eyes closed (next step is seeing it in person).
