There are just five races left to go in the frenetic 2024 Formula 1 season - and the stakes are getting higher. McLaren are still in the hunt for both World titles but, after a penalty for Lando Norris at the U.S. Grand Prix, the team must regroup back at base. The next race in Mexico is vital for the team if they are to keep Norris' hopes alive in the Drivers' Championship. The events in Austin saw the British star's title fight with Red Bull's Max Verstappen heat up. Will the Mexico race see it become even spicier? The race takes place at the high-altitude Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and, at nearly 3,000 metres above sea level, that makes the Mexico City Grand Prix a unique challenge in F1. The cars are starved of air and the drivers have to work that bit harder too. All signs are pointing to another dramatic slice of action in the World Championship battle.Whatever happens on track, the Aston Martin team is preparing to toast a landmark in Mexico. It's here that double World Champion Fernando Alonso will make his record 400th Grand Prix start. At the age of 43, the Spanish legend is reflecting on his F1 journey so far while Formula 1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali, explains why Alonso is still an important reference in the sport. At the Silverstone Museum, overlooking the famous British racetrack, another event is also hoping to inspire the next generation of motorsport talent. F1 broadcaster Holly Samos and journalist Sarah Holt are also there to find out how the sport's female leaders are aiming to reach out to its young fans. Aston Martin Team Ambassador and racing driver Jessica Hawkins is meeting the young females hoping to make it all the way to the pinnacle of motorsport. Hawkins has driven a current generation F1 car - but the quest for the next female F1 driver to join the grid continues.Formula 1 is not only about looking to the future, it's also about looking back at its rich history. McLaren continues to honour one of the greats of their past - their magnetic three-time World Champion Ayrton Senna. The 2024 season marks the 30th anniversary of his tragic death at the San Marino Grand Prix held at Imola. For McLaren this was an opportunity to celebrate his legacy and impact in F1. Back at base, McLaren's Heritage Department is also working to preserve Senna's memory, rebuilding the car that took him to his final grand prix win. This history is at the heart of McLaren's modern ambitions too. This is a team that has won 20 World titles and it's down to 2024 drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, to add to the growing trophy cabinet. The next race in Brazil - the birthplace of Senna - unites its history and current ambitions. But the Sao Paulo skies are ready to burst and throw the race weekend into chaos.F1:Back at Base is narrated by Josh Hartnett. It is created and produced by Sarah Holt and Holly Samos and is an IMG Production for the BBC.

Phil and Josh are getting ready for The Greatest Day In Motorsports on E220 of the GSP.  The IMS Road Course started the Month of May and Alex Palou earned the victory, with Will Power and Christian Lundgaard rounding out the podium.  The guys go over a typical IMS road course IndyCar race and update the points leading into the Indianapolis 500.   The Throwback Weekend at Darlington saw Brad Keselowski return to victory lane for the first time since 2021, his first win as an owner/driver, and so many other firsts during the Badyear 400.  Tyler Reddick yeeted Christopher Buescher and cost them both a chance at victory. The Fords have actually started to show fight after a brutal beginning of the 2024 season.   Justin Allgaier went out at a difficult racetrack and dominated for his second win of 2024 in the XFinity Series while Ross Chastain practiced his Gallagher routine winning for Niece in the Truck Series.  In other NASCAR News, the Cup Series will have an in-season tournament next year as part of the TNT/Amazon package.  The idea originated by Dennis Hamlin will exist starting with the Coca-Cola 600, which Dale, Jr. will be calling.  What do the guys think about this addition? For the GSP Roundup, Phil covers IMSA, WEC, MotoGP/Moto2, Formula E, WRC, Indy NXT, V8 Supercars and F2/F3 before previewing the San Marino Grand Prix for Formula 1.  Can Lando Norris make it two in a row or will Fish Lips go back to domination? Phil and Josh make their picks for the pole, front row and who will go home from Indy 500 qualifying before previewing the newly paved North Wilkesboro Speedway for the Cup All Star Race and Truck Series.  The guys make their picks for winners, advancers, wild cards, etc. before Josh's Sim Segment and Show Close.

They discuss what happened at the next race on the calendar, in Monaco, when a crash in practice raised anxiety levels yet further, and left poor Karl Wendlinger in a coma. They also reflect on the safety changes made in the wake of Imola, both immediately (to cars and circuits) and in the long term. To commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the tragic death of Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, The History Buff has made an episode about his life. Whilst I was in Senna's native São Paulo a couple of months back, I sat down to discuss Senna's life with local tour guide Bruno. Senna's life may have been cut tragically short, but his influence on the racing sport is still felt today. After his death it was revealed he had donated hundreds of millions of dollars of his personal fortune to charities in Brazil and his legacy includes the Senna Institute which provides education to poorer children in Brazil. Upon his death at just 34 years old, such was his hero status in Brazil, that the government declared three days of mourning, and he was buried with full state honours.Join us as we delve into the story of this highly complex individual, whose softly spoken, sensitive, compassionate and highly emotional demeanour stood in stark contrast to his aggressive and ruthless driving techniques, all while navigating the depths of a deep Christian faith. If you're ever in Säo Paolo, then do check out Bruno and the tours he offers. He's fantastic! For more content and if you'd like to sign up to our mailing list to be notified whenever we release a new episode, then head over to The History Buff website. In this episode, the first part in a three-episode mini series, Matt and Richard examine how F1 had evolved as a sport by 1994, both culturally and from a safety standpoint. They explain how attitudes to injury and death had changed, but why at the same time a sense of complacency may have taken hold. And, with the usual array of anecdotes and insight, they look specifically at 1994, and how a combination of rule changes, suspicion and back luck had left Senna in an uneasy frame of mind heading to Imola for round 3 of the championship. Liberty Media is reworking the formula of Formula 1. At the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, the sport will trial a two-day race format - Free Practice x 1 + Qualifying on Saturday followed by the race on Sunday. While fans might not like a format that offers one less day of on-track action, the two-day format is actually an important experiment for the future of Formula 1. First, the compressed format offers savings in terms of time and costs. Second, it offers far lesser track time for teams and drivers to collect data. If the experiment succeeds, one could expect Liberty Media to make the two-day format as a standard to squeeze 25 races in a season. In this week's Pits to Podium (https://bit.ly/pitstopodium) segment, Soumil and Kunal preview the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix by wondering why Formula 1 didn't call it the 2020 San Marino Grand Prix in the first place. There's no way we're betting against a Mercedes victory, but could Red Bull Racing-Verstappen spring a surprise? Will Ferrari's upgrades bring it into play for the coveted P3 position - joining the ranks of Racing Point, Renault and Mclaren? Join us as we talk about Italy hosting its 100th Formula 1 Grand Prix. Over the course of three days, starting on April 29, 1994, in Imola, Italy, two drivers were killed, and another driver was seriously hurt.  It was a watershed moment for F1 which had not seen a death in 12 years.  Formula One was never the same after that weekend, because one of the drivers lost at that event was one of the greatest drivers of all time, the legendary, Ayrton Senna.
