Today we welcome Dr. Sarah Milken, PhD, the Flexible Neurotic herself, as she opens up about the trials and transformations that come with midlife. Sarah's raw honesty about her personal battles with menopause, the life-changing benefits of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and the challenges of parenting provides a candid look at the complexities of female identity. Her journey through a hysterectomy, a cancer diagnosis, and the quest for hormonal balance offers a powerful testament to resilience and self-discovery. "I am on all the hormone replacement and I am a bad estrogen and the patch and all the testosterone, progesterone, estrogen. And I will sing it from the rooftop, ladies who are listening. I am a big fan of the HRT." - Sarah Milken Listen in as we navigate the paradoxes of midlife growth, the intricacies of decision-making, and the soul body paradox. I share my own experiences with an emptying nest, illuminating the intricate dance between embracing change and holding onto certainty. The conversation promises to resonate with anyone facing the conflicting truths of midlife, providing a space to reflect on cognitive dissonance and the strength found in navigating these challenges. “A lot of things in midlife are hard and good. Most things that are good are inherently hard." - Sarah Milken Sarah and I both strongly advocate for being your own health advocate and embracing the transformations that midlife brings. We tackle topics from the complexities of women's fertility and hormonal health to the power of setting boundaries and finding a voice in one's healthcare journey. EP 111: Midlife fantasy or real life? A bad case of the “midlife itchies” at 44 which ended up being a huge turning point for this guest. She was post-divorce, filing for bankruptcy and trying to find her inner fuel and passion again in midlife, despite her father dying, her dog dying, living in a tiny apartment with two teenagers, and having a quick romance that ended up leaving her wanting more. Long story short, she met an astrologist who made her believe in all the midlife woo-woo and started her midlife journey that led her to Paris… which for this guest, at the time was about finding every man in Paris born on November 2, 1968 because he just might be her long lost true love. So, in a true “I am going to save myself” fashion, my guest went off to Paris to look for any guy born on November 2, 1968. This was the date the astrologer gave her. She started this man search on a new instagram account and traveled blindly into the unknown of Paris to “find herself”. I mean, wow… true midlife magic. Might have peaked your interest… Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken in an inspiring and heartfelt conversation called Finding Me Again, True Story! My guest Natasha Sizlo is a best selling author, writer, real-estate agent for The Agency (she can be seen on Buying Beverly Hills TV show) and overall master of the midlife remix. LIBERTY Sessions with Nada Jones | Celebrating women who do & inspiring women who can |
Dr. Sarah Milken is the creator and host of the midlife podcast “The Flexible Neurotic.” Her podcast is dedicated to “inspiring and normalizing midlife sh*t and personal growth.” As a 48-year-old woman on this journey, Sarah encourages women to take small steps towards self-reinvention. As Dr. Milken sees it, it's not a midlife crisis; it's a midlife remix. Sarah was new to the podcast scene and a “social media virgin” only three years ago. She quickly grew her listener base, has been ranked in the top 1% of podcasts, and has amassed 52k Instagram followers. She has created a dedicated and engaged community of midlife women seeking answers in the “midlife self-expansion journey.” Prior to beginning this podcast, Sarah received her PhD in Educational Psychology at the University of Southern California and taught in the graduate school of education at USC. Sarah has served on several philanthropic boards and a Los Angeles private school. After taking time off to raise her two children (now teens), she dusted off her Ph.D. and decided to recreate herself by capitalizing on all of her strengths; hence, the Flexible Neurotic Podcast was born. In this episode, Nada sits down with Sarah to discuss what it means to find your own voice in this middle third of life. Sarah shares the tension that comes from identifying yourself with a role or a job and how she instead identifies as a self-expander. Sarah and Nada discuss podcasting, motherhood, midlife, “golden shit shovels,” and the difficult times humanity is currently facing. Check out Sarah's podcast, The Flexible Neurotic. EP 97: Since October 7th, when Hamas invaded Israel and murdered, raped and tortured 1,400 Israelis and took 200 hostages who have been in Gaza for over a month, we have been in shock, angry, tearful and dismayed (well, most of us). If you are Jewish or not, most of us are sitting at home wondering how this is really happening. The world feels like it is falling down. Some of us want to speak up, but fear for our lives. Others of us have been “standing up” in spite of fear. If you want to hear a candid conversation between two women and moms (one Jew and one non Jew) about the intricacies of “standing up” for what we think is right…if you want to hear how love can outweigh fear and hate & how in fact in can be the secret sauce…if you want to hear “mom to mom” personal truths, actions and fears regarding huge issues related to being a human during this crazy time in the world, then this is the episode for you! We are just “moms and humans”. We are talking about what we see as facts (what is happening) and our feelings regarding those facts. We are not political, land, Israel or Palestine experts…and we don't claim to be… Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken in an honest conversation called “Love Outweighs Hate - The Secret Sauce”. My guest Caroline D'Amore is a multi hyphen talent, actress, DJ and entrepreneur. She's the founder and CEO of Pizza Girl, the organic no sugar tomato sauce that is taking the world by storm. It's now in 2,000 stores. Today she joins us as a mother and a “stander-upper” for the Jewish people and Israel. And guess what? She's not even Jewish. She's used her social media platform to raise awareness and support for Israel and the Jews by posting about her personal dismay and devastation over the Hamas massacre in Israel, on October 7th. In this episode, we are speaking as mothers and activists for the Jewish community in the fight against Hamas and the rise of anti-semitism around the world. Looking forward to connecting with you!
