Jenaia has been a NBA fan ever since she can remember. She loved basketball so much that she thought she was going to be the first woman in the NBA. She is from the Chicagoland area (Joliet, IL) and grew up during the Michael Jordan/Scottie Pippen era with the Chicago Bulls. She was more of a Pippen girl! Then Jenaia became fascinated with Shaquille O’Neil. She had his action figure, plaques of him in her room and Orlando Magic sheets. She felt he was just such a dominate player shattering backboards and tearing down rims. So when Shaq went to Los Angeles Lakers so did Jenaia. She is a Lakers fan through and through. She even lived in LA in 2010 and that is when she went to a Los Angeles Dodgers game and saw some women her age rocking LA Dodgers baseball hats; NEW ERA® 59FIFTY®. She thought to herself, “Bet, I can rock a baseball hat and look cute too.” She shortly moved back to the Chicagoland area for a new job and the first two NEW ERA® 59FIFTY® baseball hats she purchased from Lids were LA Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. She grew up going to Chicago White Sox games with her mom. If you are from the Chicagoland area you know you have to pick a side lol! Northside – Chicago Cubs; Southside – Chicago White Sox!!! You already know what it is…..White Sox, everyday, all day! This is the one Chicago team Jenaia is truly loyal to! Jenaia is such a huge sports fan she got married at U.S. Cellular Field at home plate. From there she knew she wanted to work in sports but was not sure how. Three weeks after getting married she moved to Texas and soon after moved to San Antonio. She ended up volunteering at the UTSA football games in the press box as a Media Communications Runner. That opportunity lead volunteering in a few UTSA men’s basketball games to the Alamo Bowl to Men’s NCAA Final Four that was hosted in San Antonio. Then came her position as the Media Credential Will-Call Coordinator for the San Antonio Commanders. She also participated in a contest called Rock The Mic ESPN San Antonio was first runner up out of one hundred men. She was the only woman. Leaving that competition she received a text message from a friend telling her that there was a spot open for a Media Communications Runner with the Houston Texans. She immediately interviewed for the job and landed it. She still currently works for the team, but took the season off due to Covid. Jenaia also worked for the San Antonio Spurs as a 50/50 Raffle Representative and last, but not least she interned at Sports2Nite; a San Antonio sports TV show. Now, Jenaia is ready to focus on Sports By The Numbers and all the other assignments God has her on in 2021.https://twitter.com/JenaiaNicolehttps://twitter.com/SBTN930

IntroductionHello folks, and welcome back to Major – Stories of NCAA Scandals, the number one hotspot for the most gripping, gruesome, and groundbreaking scandals in the history of the NCAA. My name is Chris Brown and I’ll be your host, guiding you through every twist and turn these stories have to offer. For the last nine years, I’ve worked in NCAA Rules and Regulations, including four years on the NCAA staff.  If you are anything like me, you love a good sports scandal. I started Major, as a way of exploring both well-known and unknown NCAA scandals. But enough about me, let’s start the show.On today’s episode we’re covering what many call the hotbed of college sports scandal, the holy grail of rules breaking, the place where the shady stuff tends to go down….Recruitment. It’s easy to imagine why this is the case. Getting the right player, putting together the right team, it’s the foundation of a championship season. Given college sports has grown into a multibillion-dollar industry a lot is at stake. While there is an appreciation for a coaches ability to nurture young athletes and to ensure their athletes are graduating, a coaches job is dependent upon wins and losses. But how far will some coaches go? What does it take to turn on a rival? On a another player? Well listen up and listen good cause we’re taking you all the way back to the Midwest in 1988 where the chase for basketball recruit Deon Thomas pitted big ten members against one another and brought out the inner espionage of one coach: Bruce Pearl. DiscussionThe Background In the 1988 season at Chicago’s Simeon High school, one Junior basketball player was at the height of his appeal. Deon Thomas had just led his team to a Chicago Public League title and would go on to cap of his senior year with being named Illinois Mr. Basketball and staring in the McDonald’s All-American Game, alongside future superstar Shaquille O’Neil. Now if Thomas’ accolades were not enough, he was coming from an elite high school program. Simeon High School is recognized as one of the best programs for producing basketball talent, including the number one ranked player in the country Ben Wilson and NBA point guard Derek Rose. Unsurprisingly a player of this caliber catches the attention of schools across the country. However, the Big Ten, took a particular interest in Deon Thomas. Specifically, two teams, the University of Iowa and the University of Illinois went full throttle in the all-out war for Thomas’ commitment. When it was all said and done, and the dust had settled it was Jimmy Collins, the assistant coach for University of Illinois that had made the big score, except… the dust hadn’t really settled quite yet. Bruce PearlNow to understand what happens next, you have to really get to know Bruce Pearl. Pearl is originally from Boston, Massachusetts and attended Boston College, graduating in 1982. While at Boston College, Pearl served as a manager for the men’s basketball team. The time Pearl spent with the Boston College program, is considered by most the darkest time in the team’s history. In 1979, the BC men’s basketball team was implicated in a point shaving case involving former Mafia member: Henry Hill. If you don’t know what point shaving is, go back and listen to episode two. The scandal resulted in a player going to jail and embarrassment for Boston College. Now it is hard to say whether or not this would have an impact on Pearl’s moral compass but it is certainly a unique experience for a 20 year old aspiring men’s basketball coach. Following his time at Boston College, Pearl would move on with Coach Tom Davis at Stanford University. When Davis accepted the head coaching job at the University of Iowa, Pearl, one of his top recruiters, would follow him. Now depending on the side you take it was either a desperate act of self-preservation or a ruthless attack against a rival program that led University of Iowa assistant coach, Bruce Pearl to throw the University of Illinois and Deon himself right under the bus. But before we dive deeper into that infamous call it’s important to do a little review on NCAA recruitment regulations and the relationship between Pearl and Deon. As discussed in a previous episode, there are very strict regulations for how recruitment can take place between a coaching staff and an athlete. Without going too deep, the core of these regulations revolves around the very simple idea that you can’t pay prospects. One more time, you can’t pay prospects. Let’s say it all together because it keeps happening, you can’t pay prospects. It’s common that the biggest scandals in sports boil down to money and luxury to pull in a big recruit. Whether you agree with the rules or not, these are the regulations coaches agree to follow. It was an accusation of breaking said rules that allegedly put assistant coach Bruce Pearl on the defensive. Pearl had failed to sign Deon Thomas. While Thomas had verbally committed to the Hawkeyes, he ended up signing with the University of Illinois. Now something to keep in mind, when it is comes to recruitment a verbal commitment mean absolutely nothing. Athletes commit and decommit multiple times throughout the recruitment process. Until a prospect actually signs a National Letter of Intent, a school is never guaranteed that they will play for them. The RecordingPost failed recruitment, Pearl started hearing rumors that he had violated NCAA rules in his efforts to acquire Deon. On top of that, Bob Hambric, the head coach of Chicago’s Simeon high school and presumably not a fan of Pearl’s, had called the University of Iowa’s head coach to tell him that Bruce Pearl had made an improper offer to Thomas. Hambric would later go on to criticize Pearl further by saying “high school coaches in Chicago know how Iowa operates. Iowa's not going to get anybody out of here. And if you're in the Big Ten, you need Chicago.”Hambric would further criticize Pearl of inappropriately crashing a tournament trip to Amsterdam and giving Deon money while he was there. Regardless of what it was exactly that led to the incident, according to Pearl it was fear of his own reputation that led to him to hatch a plan to catch the University of Illinois in its recruitment of Thomas. The plan was simple, Pearl would call and record Thomas admitting to receiving impermissible benefits when being recruited by the University of Illinois. The recorded call began with Pearl asking if he had done anything wrong during his recruitment process, to which Thomas replied that there had been no wrongdoing on Pearl’s part. Onto the bombshell, the call then moved over to his recruitment and commitment to Illinois. Pearl asked if Thomas had been promised payment of eighty thousand dollars alongside the gifting of a new car, for his commitment to Illinois. While he would later refute it, Thomas seemed to confirm this as true, a major violation for the University of Illinois who were finishing up probation from football violations committed a few years prior. Outside of the whether or not the claims made on the tapes were valid, there was a question of legality when it came to recording the call, because the recording was made in secret. This boiled down to where Pearl was when he made the call.In Deon’s state of Illinois, it’s illegal to record a call without the consent of both parties, however in Iowa, where it was later proven Pearl was when he made the call, it is only required that one party consent to a recording before a call is made. Regardless of the legality, many inside and out of the NCAA believed Pearl’s actions to be unethical, something we’ll cover a little deeper in the aftermath. The Scandal This is where things get sticky so prepare for a whole lot of, he said she said. The release of the tapes by Pearl were apparently brought out once again by means of self-preservation. According to Pearl, NCAA investigators approached him over misconduct in the recruitment efforts of Deon Thomas and Pearl in a plea for his own innocence shared what he had recorded. Illinois claimed that this was a targeted effort to dismantle the recruit of a rival team by inviting the NCAA investigator, but a reliable NCAA informant told me that’s most likely untrue as it’s common for these investigations to occur around high profile recruits. The release of these tapes led to a strong counterattack by both Deon and his father. Deon claimed that he had only made the statements about the Illini’s recruiting violations get Pearl of off the phone. He would then later go on to claim it was Pearl himself that had offered the eighty thousand dollars and car, something that Pearl simply denied, stating “it was an effort to discredit the witness”. On top of all that, Deon’s father went on to claim that Pearl had offered to move Deon’s mother to Iowa as part of the deal and had threatened false accusations against his son if he didn’t commit to Iowa. While it is hard to know whether or not any of these accusations are true, one thing remained certain, if Illinois was found guilty of a major violation such as this one it would mean a strong possibility of an NCAA death penalty, being shut down for at least a year, and the firing of Illinois assistant coach Jimmy Collins.  The Verdict After passing a lie detector test, in which Deon stated clearly that he had not been offered the money or car by Illinois, the NCAA found Illinois not guilty of the violation, stating the evidence provided was not credible or compelling enough to warrant penalty. However, in a strange twist to the story, the NCAA investigation did uncover several other violations made by the Illinois coaches. Among these was Illinois’ third major violation in a six year span, giving the NCAA cause and reason to charge them with “lack of institutional control” resulting in several recruitment violations and a one year ban on post season play. While things could have been much worse for the University of Illinois, it left a sour taste in the mouths of many Illini fans. The AftermathWhile the penalties we’re powerful, the real aftermath of this scandal was the lasting affect on relationships and reputations. Deon Thomas went on to be the all time leading scorer for University of Illinois and the overall 28th selection in the 1994 draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Although this is true, Deon never actually played a single game in the NBA, rather he went on to play in an Israeli league, a country strongly tied to his nationality. Once there he continued to reject offers for the NBA and go on to become one of the most successful all time American pro’s in a European league. While for most, this would have ended their coaching career, Bruce Pearl actually landed another job. After coach at the University of Southern Indiana, Pearl would land the head coaching job at the University of Wisconsin Milawkee where he would face an old foe: Jimmy Collins.During their four -ear span coaching for opposing teams in the horizon league, neither Pearl nor Collins ever gave the other a post-game handshake. Deon when later asked whether he had forgiven Pearl for the recording went on to state, “it was hard to forgive a snake”. And many among the industry blackballed Pearl from ever becoming part of their coaching staff. College Basketball Analyst Dick Vitale went as far as to call Pearl’s actions “completely unethical” and compared it to “committing career suicide”. However, as you will learn in next week’s episode, this wasn’t the last time Bruce Pearl would be involved in a major violation.  ConclusionFor better or for worse, this week is another example of the whistle getting blown on and off the court. Was Pearl wrong in his actions? Did he act in self-interest? Will there ever be a level playing field in an industry with so much money involved? We’ll leave that for you to decide. In the meantime, We at Major - stories of NCAA Scandals hope you enjoyed part 1 of Bruce Pearl. Join us next week when we explore how a BBQ landed Pearl in hot water. If you want to keep it going, give us a follow on our social media at brown_athletics on twitter or @major podcast on Instagram. Thank you everyone for tuning in, again I’m your host Chris Brown wishing you a good day and life free of scandal! Sourceshttps://vault.si.com/vault/1990/02/19/tale-of-the-tape https://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/2019/4/4/18295241/bruce-pearl-final-four-timeline-infractions-auburn-lowa-deon-thomas-wire-milwaukee-violations https://www.rockmnation.com/2017/3/20/14949360/cuonzo-martin-missouri-purdue-illinois-deon-thomas-bruce-pearl https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/news/story?id=5714649 https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/news/story?id=6243862 https://www.al.com/auburnbasketball/2019/10/bruce-pearl-not-worried-about-potential-ncaa-notice-of-allegations-confident-in-auburns-process.html https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/news/story?id=5575856 https://247sports.com/college/tennessee/Article/Documents-describe-interviews-that-sank-Bruce-Pearl-at-Tennessee-32452/

The coronavirus outbreak has given us plenty of reasons to drink. But that doesn't mean that it has been kind to local breweries. We talk about that on this week's episode of the Access Louisville podcast. Reporter Haley Cawthon recently penned a story on how breweries have been hurt by the outbreak, primarily as a result of restaurants, bars and tap houses being closed to encourage social distancing. Those on premise sales are a huge part of the business that breweries do. Some pivoted to retail sales but that can only offset the loss so much.As always, we discuss a couple of different topics on the show. At the top of the program we talk about how our shopping habits have changed. We also discuss the best advice we've heard from local leaders during the outbreak. Pod-Crashing Episode 30: Are We There YetWe’ve talked about it multiple times. Podcasting’s history. It’s been trudging along since the late 1980’s. Gained some speed during the birth of the iPod generation and has lightly floated around at an uneven pace without any real race. Podcasting’s always been that nearly next to underground thing comedians, politicians, home studio junkies and maybe a few teachers have done. Hey man you can say anything. Play anything. Make it your own thing or copy someone’s pretty good thing. Those dropping vocals on the platform clearly stayed true to their ambition, “We aren’t radio. We are us.”Better technology and cheaper data lifted listeners to a new level of connection. Millennial’s that loved NPR started gravitating toward podcasts because of the power of choice. We are that layer of people that dig it when we can get it on demand. It’s completely natural to think we’re living in the Golden Age of content consumption. Whoa whoa slow down. Not a lot of people on this side of the microphone are leaping onto that idea just yet. I mean compared to my early steps through hairy jungles and bitterly cold snowcapped peaks of 2012 forward, the information generation has latched onto some huge support from iHeart Radio, Radio One, NPR and small terrestrial station owners that think it’s a cool way to give advertisers an added benefit. Buy our radio station and we’ll toss your commercial onto a podcast free! Podcasting’s gettin some love and affection but it feels like we’re only six month into a marriage. The endorsements are coming in. Just today on Bob Pittman’s Math and Magic podcast, the legendary Walter Isaacson totally lifted his hat and praised the platform because it’s bringing the world back to storytelling. Who better to know that then the writer and creator of Disgraceland Jake Brenna. I asked him if we were living in the pioneering days of AM Radio mid 1920’s. From his heart he believes this new age of tossing out thoughts and journey’s is still 40 years from becoming a true super power. He used my mid-1920’s reference while explaining how long it took terrestrial radio to true become a part of the entire nation. Movies the same. Where we are today with motion pictures is lightyears beyond those initial first shots. So it got me thinking. Technology over the past 100 years has pushed the human mind and spirit further than any other time in history. Why would it take another 40 years of podcasting to truly be seen as a powerhouse form of entertainment, communication, teaching, building and making money? Because it’s still a guessing game. Those that should be doing aren’t. It’s not part of their threads of success because the old way is still working. There’s no interest. Bob Pittman loves the idea that teens and adults in their 20’s are hopping onto the podcast scene. Remember he’s the dude that created MTV. The I-Gen generation is fearless and has spent the past 15 years getting exactly what they want on demand. As each member of the I-Gen team grows inside their careers they’re bringing with them an experience. This is how podcasting worked for them as a creator and as a listener. Once a position of decision making is reached that opens the field of communication to be replanted. As of right now there’s way too many podcasts on the platform that should be making money but where’s the sales staff? You can’t keep pouring a lot of energy into an idea if nothings coming back. Podcast creating demands time. Thirty plus episodes feels fun. Advertisers need hundreds with huge listening and download numbers. Those fronting the advertising budget need a return on their investment. Sixteen hits a day isn’t exciting enough for businesses to play. Here’s what makes the game even tougher. Where is your listening audience? Johnny’s Burger Shack on Broadwater Ave isn’t interested in building a relationship with folks in a town 2,000 miles away. Talk about a buzz kill right? No! It needs to be talked about. Super Mega podcast connections like PodcastOne went the route of bringing in the big dogs like Adam Carolla, Laura Ingrahm, pro wrestler Steve Austin, Dr Drew, Shaquille O’Neil and more. Big names bring in clients. It’s moments like this that you gotta pull off an out of control but completely natural gut check. Is David available to take on Goliath one more time? Jake Brenna from Disgraceland is onto something. He knows how pretty the podcast adventure smells right now cuz for the first time terrestrial radio bosses are seeing the potential of money being made. How do you jump onto that gravy train? Let me ask you this? Are you sure you want to? Don’t forget what we talked about a few paragraphs back. Podcasting is nearly next to being underground. There’s been a lot of pride put into the roots of this machine from people that still believe, “We aren’t radio. We are us.” I learned one very important rule during my 37 years on that tower of power. Radio sales people are hungrier than the on air talent they’re selling. Somewhere out there are budding ad agencies searching for podcasts that have healthy analytic numbers. More importantly… podcasts that are destine to stick around and not suddenly disappear from the map because you weren’t the mood to perform this week and the one before that too. What we need are podcast lifestylers that want to make money away from their corporate radio job. To step out at night or during lunch and pull off something that’ll probably get them fired. You know… conflict of interest. But you can’t put your home front on the line until you’re comfortable with the writers, producers and performers that are addicted to the podcast sickness.I’ve yet to meet another me. Not conceited. A man of truth. In the studio everyday 530am til 4 pm and later. Hundreds of people write to me about needing to make money from their podcast. I always ask, “When did you post your last show?” Um last month. Maybe next Thursday. No wonder an army of sales executives aren’t marching this way. Marc Maron gives us two shows a week. Joe Rogan the same. They travel the world every week and still pull off episodes that are longer then every Star Wars movie combined. If you don’t have the time then think about creating a twelve show season. Hit the streets promoting the crap out of it. Make a lot of noise and shake up the atmosphere with your art. The podcasting trail is no longer a little chunk of land with patted down grass. There’s dirt where there was once green. One day the greenway maybe paved. In order to call it a success the path can’t be a half mile long. I hike Kings Mountain State Park for a reason. Over 20 miles of incredibly different leg busting lung piercing trails designed to kick your ass. That’s what’s gonna catch the eye of a chance taking sales force. Cause a conflict of interest.

Jordan Harbinger is a Wall Street lawyer turned talk show host, social dynamics expert, and entrepreneur. After hosting a top 50 iTunes podcast for over a decade that had nearly four million downloads a month, with guests like Shaquille O’Neil it was all taken away (except the relationships). Now Jordan’s interviews can be found on The Jordan Harbinger Show, where he deconstructs the playbooks of the most successful people on earth and shares their strategies and insights with the rest of us. On the personal side, Jordan speaks five languages, traveled through war zones, and has been kidnapped — twice. He also met his wife because of his podcast. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn: [2:25] Jeremy introduces his guest, Jordan Harbinger. [4:30] Jordan talks about his wife, Jen and how she impacts his podcast. [15:45] What has it been like rebuilding the podcast from scratch? [26:00] Jordan talks about the team he has built around him. [28:30] What is Jordan’s “Hustle Mode” like? [33:30] Jordan shares why he is so vulnerable about losing his old show. [40:30] Habits and systems that help Jordan succeed. [44:00] What you can expect from Jordan’s new podcast and his live events. [47:20] How Jordan connected with Rob. [51:00] Jordan talks about doing business differently due to his past challenges. [56:15] Low moments and proud moments in Jordan’s career. In this episode… Have you ever had to hit the reset button on something you’ve devoted your whole career to building up? Can you imagine how challenging that process would be? What would you do, press forward or walk away? On this episode of Inspired Insider, you’ll hear from podcast host and entrepreneur, Jordan Harbinger. In his conversation with Jeremy, Jordan opens up about rebuilding his podcast from scratch, how his wife is involved with the podcast, why it’s important to have the right team around you, how he leads with vulnerability, challenges he has faced along the way, and so much more! Don’t miss a minute of this powerful episode featuring Jordan! When you face adversity in life or business, you really only have two choices, let it defeat you or learn from it and move forward. Have you had situations like this in your life? Where did your decision lead you? For Jordan Harbinger, as difficult as the choice was, he decided to push forward and learn from his disappointment. Jordan decided to not only return to broadcasting, but he wanted his show to be bigger and better than it ever was before. He set out to improve every single aspect of his production from audio quality to prep time. His audience noticed and the responses have been overwhelmingly positive. What can you learn from Jordan’s story of resilience and reinvention? Do you have that right-hand person in your organization who you can trust with honest feedback? How do you know that you can really trust their opinion? Have you built that relationship over years of working together? Jordan Harbinger is thankful to have his wife, Jen on his team and providing valuable input that genuinely makes his podcast better. Hearing from Jordan about how they interact, you really get the sense that they enjoy a shared and specific vision of what they want to accomplish. While working with your spouse may not be ideal for everyone, when done well, they can really serve as a priceless asset. It has been said that the best way to get from point A to point B is to realize how unacceptable life is at point A to be willing to make that change. Once you focus on this shift in thinking, then you can really start to go to work and strive toward your ultimate objective at point B. Have you locked in on point B in your life or are you still trying to figure out if you want to stay at point A? Jordan Harbinger is done with point A in his life and he is soaring toward point B in an extream “Hustle Mode.” He is determined to map things out and produce the very best podcast on the marketplace, and he is succeeding! What can you learn from Jordan’s relentless drive toward improvement? When was the last time you heard of someone thriving without a plan in place to make it happen? Let’s face it, success and fame don’t happen by accident! More often than not, as Tony Robbins says, “Success leaves clues.” This saying absolutely rings true when looking at the life and career of Jordan Harbinger. Jordan was kind enough to open up about some of the daily habits he practices that help him to succeed. One of the habits that Jordan mentions is the simple practice of grabbing a contact in his phone who he hasn’t messaged in a while and he takes the time to reach out. Just that simple act has allowed Jordan to build and maintain a robust network of contacts and friends that have helped him to advance both personally and professionally. In Episode 13, Andy and Dave are testing out a new lighting solution in the studio as they prepare for whatever dangers (Star Wars spoilers) exist in the future. This was probably brought on by the unending tales of stupidity they found in preparation for this episode. A man calls 911 for a ride to Hooters. No one knows where chocolate milk comes from. Opium drug rings are run by idiots. And to top it all off, America doesn’t know how to spell.    Or maybe they’re just setting up ambient lighting for their bald, Shakespearean-trained, permanent studio guest…   “NOW THIS IS PODCASTING!”   Dude, did you hear?   We’re drinking Conquista IPA from Coronado and Cigar City Brewing and Golden Helles Lager (aka Bucket Seat Blonde) from Garage Brewing Co. You know, right off the 15. ...Next to THE Shell station.   Quickdraws include a hot new Skittles flavor, an attempted murder of Johnny Cash, the six degrees of Shaquille O’Neil, phone throwing competitions, a T-Rex vs. Chickens fight, and the editor of 50 Shades of Grey.   Andy’s back with more diamond news. This time, a woman buys a $13 piece of costume jewelry at a yard sale and finds out it’s worth A LOT more.   A man called 911 about his grandma having a stroke. He ended up in jail. Somehow, there is a Hooters restaurant in the middle of this story.   A local North Carolina cop was conducting a routine neighborhood patrol and got a lot more than he expected when he knocked on Cody Xiong’s door.   Dave and Andy don’t like to get political but they can get behind several candidates for the British primary election. All hail Lord Buckethead, Mr. Fish Finger and lazy-eyed Elmo!   In a latest national study, the dudes learn that way too many people have no idea where chocolate milk comes from.   McGruff the Crime Dog really likes the taste of crime. He REALLY likes it. One bite was all it took to get hooked on the lifestyle.    Andy recommends the podcast How I Built This. It takes a look at innovators, entrepreneurs and founders of famous brands and movements. It will make you want to quit your job.   Dave recommends Inside Llewyn Davis streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It’s a Coen Brothers movie that has a great cast including: Justin Timberlake, Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren.   Andy generally recommends themed bars. Kenny Dobbs is a professional basketball player, International Slam Dunk Champion, and the man LeBron James calls "the greatest dunker in the world." He's been a youtube sensation for years, and has appeared on ESPN, Fox Sports, NBA TV, as well as the new TNT show The Dunk King. His spectacular feats of aerial creativity have garnered him sponsorships from Sprite and Nike. Kenny has toured with the NBA and Sprite as a celebrity dunker, performing in front of sold out stadiums during Halftime Shows, Celebrity Games, and NBA All Star Weekends (where he is frequently brought in as a creative consultant for the NBA players). His amazing dunk moves were used as the inspiration for the dunks featured in the NBA 2K13 video game. Kenny is also a motivational speaker, using his foundation "Uprise Youth Movement" to empower youth of all ages with a challenging, yet empowering message of hope. We cover a lot of ground in this episode including:   • Growing up around drugs, alcohol, gangs and crime; landing in jail at 17, and making the decision to turn his life around • The value of taking stock of your life, writing down your goals, and being honest with yourself about whether or not the things in your life are helping you achieve them • Breaking down huge, audacious goals into smaller, bite-sized goals in order to get a plan of action • The sacrifices you have to make when you have a dream you're dead set on accomplishing • Using his past to make recommendations on effective substance abuse and gang prevention, receiving $3 million in grants to create a Youth Advisory Counsel, being appointed chairman for the state of Arizona, and being invited to Washington to speak to legislators • Breaking into big time Slam Dunk events after getting discovered at a local event by Shaquille O'Neil's cousin • Winning the LeBron James-hosted dunk contest at NBA All Star Weekend in Orlando with Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant watching, and being offered a tryout with the Dallas Mavericks • Learning about training and work ethic from Adrian Peterson  • The value of looking at the bigger picture when dealing with injury • Getting creative inspiration from Dominique Wilkins and Vince Carter • The power of mental barriers, and what it takes to overcome them • Kenny's influence on the current crop of NBA dunkers, and how he's brought in as a creative consultant for them • How a lack of creativity, and an emphasis on props and gimmicks nearly ruined the NBA dunk contest • The subtle techniques Michael Jordan employed to make dunks look more impressive • Investing your time on bettering yourself, rather than wasting it on entertainment

Steel may not seem like a Superman movie, but in the 1990s it was as close as Warner Bros could muster. With Batman ushering in a new age of comic book movies there were many attempts to revive the red caped DC hero. Such names as JJ Abrams, Nicholas Cage, Kevin Smith, McG, and Tim Burton all worked on Superman projects, and all failed to come together. As unlikely as it seemed, the only man of steel we would see in theaters between 1987 and 2006 was Shaquille O'Neil in Steel. Based on a character born from the Death of Superman comic story, Steel is a disillusioned weapons maker who dons a high-tech suit to fight crime. The film was no slam dunk but does it deserve a second chance? Listen to Now Playing's review to find out!
