In 1986, the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl- then in the USSR, now in Ukraine- experienced meltdown. This disaster is one of the worst in nuclear history.

Daniela Liberti"Sacro inverno 20/21"Marija StepanovaBompiani Editorewww.bompianit.itTraduzione: Daniela Liberti.

Abstract: The astrocyte-to-neuron lactate shuttle hypothesis entails that glycolytically derived pyruvate in astrocytes is converted to lactate instead of being catabolized in mitochondria. The mechanism of this metabolic rewiring is unclear. Here we show that astrocytes of the adult human neocortex and hippocampal formation do not express mitochondrial proteins critical for performing oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) to a detectable degree, including cytochrome c and complex IV. Without OXPHOS, human brain astrocytes are bound to produce lactate to avoid interruption of glycolysis. Copy rights belong to original authors.

In our second 2022 Euros recap episode, there was no shortage of laughter or tears, as we nervously chuckled about Larry Loupolover's choreography, but are so incredibly sad that Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevicius will not be going to the Olympics despite an incredibly hard struggle to obtain Allison's Lithuanian citizenship. In the Men's event, we continued to wish for Kevin Aymoz to rest (but it's a little late now that we are right up against Olympics Eve), played some air guitar with Michal Brezina and his love for dad rock, and were SO happy for Jesus Christ Superstar, I mean, Mark Kondratiuk, who won the gold medal. In Ice Dance, there was a clear winner in the battle for the Spanish Olympics spot, with Smart and Diaz coming out on top, and an even clearer winner in Stepanova and Bukin's RD in that teenage heartthrobs will get us every time.Timestamps:(00:00) - Intro (00:48) - News (Mikhail Kolyada COVID test, Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva engagement, Sui & Han plans)(04:52) - ICE DANCE(06:20) - Allison Reed & Saulius Ambrulevicius(08:48) - Diana Davis & Gleb Smolkin (11:59) - Sara Hurtado & Kirill Khaliavin(15:00) - Lilah Fear & Lewis Gibson(16:52) - Olivia Smart & Adrian Diaz(19:10) - Charlène Guignard & Marco Fabbri(21:01) - Aleksandra Stepanova & Ivan Bukin(24:25) - Victoria Sinitsina & Nikita Katsalapov(28:33) - MEN(29:35) - Larry Loupolover (31:22) - Michal Brezina(34:12) - Gabriele Frangipani(36:40) - Kévin Aymoz(40:29) - Morisi Kvitelashvili(42:59) - Evgeni Semenenko(45:10) - Andrei Mozalëv(49:44) - Deniss Vasiljevs(52:25) - Daniel Grassl(58:14) - Mark Kondratiuk(1:01:26) - Outro------------------------------------------------Follow our figure skating podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lutzgetdownpod/   Twitter: https://twitter.com/lutzgetdownpod And to work with us please contact lutzgetdownpod@gmail.com Logo design by @dezisartvibes on Instagramxx Joce & Clauds

Is it just a coincidence that three books by the major Russian writer Maria Stepanova have appeared in English in 2021? Why does Maria Stepanova deploy such a rich variety of voices and forms? What are the challenges of translating her poetry? Who are the pantheon of deceased writers who seem to haunt her every line?  In this conversation, the editor of The Voice Over: Poems and Essays (Columbia UP, 2021), Irina Shevelenko talks about Stepanova's poetry and prose with Duncan McCargo. Irina elaborates on her wonderful introduction to the collection and explains how she assembled an outstanding team of translators to help bring this work to an international audience. Both Duncan and Irina read extracts from Stepanova's work. (Maria Stepanova is the author of over ten poetry collections as well as three books of essays and the documentary novel In Memory of Memory.) (US: New Directions, Canada: Book*hug Press, UK: Fitzcarraldo), which was shortlisted for the 2021 Man Booker International Prize.  Her poetry collection War of the Beasts and the Animals was published by Bloodaxe Books, also in 2021. She is the recipient of several Russian and international literary awards. Irina Shevelenko is professor of Russian at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Translations are by: Alexandra Berlina, Sasha Dugdale, Sibelan Forrester, Amelia Glaser, Zachary Murphy King, Dmitry Manin, Ainsley Morse, Eugene Ostashevsky, Andrew Reynolds, and Maria Vassileva. For a video of the May 2021 launch event for The Voice Over, featuring Maria Stepanova and several of the translators, see  Book Launch of Maria Stepanova's The Voice Over: Poems and Essays – A Reading and Conversation – CREECA – UW–Madison (wisc.edu) Maria Stepanova is one of the most powerful and distinctive voices of Russia's first post-Soviet literary generation. An award-winning poet and prose writer, she has also founded a major platform for independent journalism. Her verse blends formal mastery with a keen ear for the evolution of spoken language. As Russia's political climate has turned increasingly repressive, Stepanova has responded with engaged writing that grapples with the persistence of violence in her country's past and present. Some of her most remarkable recent work as a poet and essayist considers the conflict in Ukraine and the debasement of language that has always accompanied war. The Voice Over brings together two decades of Stepanova's work, showcasing her range, virtuosity, and creative evolution. Stepanova's poetic voice constantly sets out in search of new bodies to inhabit, taking established forms and styles and rendering them into something unexpected and strange. Recognizable patterns of ballads, elegies, and war songs are transposed into a new key, infused with foreign strains, and juxtaposed with unlikely neighbors. As an essayist, Stepanova engages deeply with writers who bore witness to devastation and dramatic social change, as seen in searching pieces on W. G. Sebald, Marina Tsvetaeva, and Susan Sontag. Including contributions from ten translators, The Voice Over shows English-speaking readers why Stepanova is one of Russia's most acclaimed contemporary writers. Learn more about your ad choices. Starting from scratch in a new country seems challenging but today's guest took $130 and pursued real estate opportunities in the U.S.  On today's episode, we talk with Ekaterina Stepanova, a mobile home park investor who immigrated from Russia in search of the American dream. We discuss with Ekaterina the challenges she faced from building a business in a new country, how buying one unit at a time wasn't going to cut it when achieving her goals, how to analyze mobile home parks, and what to look for during your due diligence. We also discuss her buying criteria and the importance of having a diversified tenant base. Ekaterina Stepanova was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, in a family of energy engineers. Recognizing early that engineering wouldn't be a great fit after graduating college, she pivoted to the exciting world of Advertising. Ekaterina had continued success within advertising; becoming at only twenty-four years old and ranked in the top 5 advertising agencies in size and billings worldwide. Also at twenty-four, she fulfilled her longtime dream of becoming a property owner, when she purchased a rehab apartment in Central Moscow. In 2006, Ekaterina made a life altering decision and immigrated to the United States with her then husband following his dream of becoming and opera singer in New York. At that point, her newly renovated apartment in Moscow, became her first rental property with her Mom acting as property manager. Getting a taste of passive investing in the form of rental income and quickly learning about the wide range of opportunities for real estate investing in the United States, Ekaterina purchased her first “turnkey” property in Memphis 4 years ago. Unfortunately, after 2 evictions in the course of 6 months, made Ekaterina reconsider her appetite for residential real estate, ultimately turning to commercial real estate investing. That's when she discovered Mobile Home parks and has been doing it ever since. Today, she is a partner at M2K Partners, who owns 2 mobile home communities and is also a Limited Partner in a 63-Space Park. Ekaterina is a host of a monthly “all virtual” meet-up for Mobile Home Park investors which focuses on giving real estate investors strategies, tools and tactics.   On today's episode, we discuss a ton with Ekaterina, including: How to transition from turnkey single families to large commercial properties The importance of networking, relationships, and mentors All the property and rental options involved with mobile home parks Why mobile homes are recession resistant   Books/Resources The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho   Contact Information MHPTribe.com MHP Tribe Facebook Group   InvestHER Community Our mission is to support and inspire women real estate investors around the globe to live a financially free and balanced life.
