Episode Notes Khoudia Touré is a street dancer, choreographer, and performer from Senegal. In 2018, Khoudia was selected for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative and worked with renowned Canadian choreographer Crystal Pité. Since 2020, she has been a frequent collaborator with Stéphane Lambiel's Skating School in Champéry, Switzerland. She teaches hip-hop dance and improvisation techniques to the students during the summer camps and has collaborated with Stéphane, Guillaume Cizeron, and Satoko Miyahara on innovative show programs. I was lucky enough to get to speak with Khoudia during the summer camp in Champery, and I hope that you enjoy this conversation and some clips of her work with her students. Episode Notes I'm so excited to bring you this conversation with Gabriella Papadakis. With her ice dance partner Guillaume Cizeron, Gabi is the 2022 Olympic champion, the 2018 Olympic Silver Medalist, and a five time World Champion. She's been taking a break from competition the last two seasons, skating in shows with Guillaume and exploring life away from the rink. Gabi has been vocal about support for opening up dance to teams of any gender, and in 2023, she and Madison Hubbell shared a video of them building a program together. We talked about partnering and improv, the process of coming out as queer, and the pressure put on women skaters to conform to rigid standards of femininity. This was such a delightful conversation and I really hope you enjoy it! Transcript: https://docs.google.com/document/d/ You can see clips of her recent show skating on her Instagram @gabriellapapadakis and via On Ice Perspectives. Well well well, it's another Men's event and thankfully no one had to say the words “1st to 7th and 7th to 1st” as the chaos was taken down a notch. In the Men's event, we eagerly got our lightsabers out again to bop along to Adam Siao Him Fa's step sequence, breathed a sigh of relief for and with Kevin Aymoz, and smiled and laughed with Michael Buble for Kagiyama Yuma's second Grand Prix circuit gold medal. In Ice Dance, our favorite teenage heartthrob-filled RD from Stepanova and Bukin did not disappoint, and neither did the programs from our top two teams, as there was a battle between those top three medal spots.Timestamps:(00:00) - Intro(01:24) - News(02:04) - IDF: ICE DANCE(03:14) - Jennifer Janse van Rensburg & Benjamin Steffan(05:06) - Loïcia Demougeot & Theo le Mercier(05:54) - Allison Reed & Saulius Ambrulevičius(09:03) - Juulia Turkkila & Matthias Versluis(11:35) - Annabelle Morozov & Andrei Bagin(13:33) - Christina Carreira & Anthony Ponomarenko(16:10) - Evgeniia Loparëva & Geoffrey Brissaud(17:39) - Alexandra Stepanova & Ivan Bukin(21:44) - Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier(24:24) - Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron(29:03) - IDF: MEN(29:36) - Gabriele Frangipani(32:25) - Romain Ponsart(34:14 ) - Artur Danielian(36:13) - Kevin Aymoz(38:33) - Adam Siao Him Fa(40:25) - Andrei Mozalëv(42:50) - Keegan Messing(44:59) - Dmitri Aliev(46:58) - Deniss Vasiljevs(48:32) - Jason Brown(50:21) - SATO Shun(52:13) - KAGIYAMA Yuma(55:04) - Kiss & Cry segment(59:05) - Outro------------------------------------------------Follow our figure skating podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lutzgetdownpod/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/lutzgetdownpod And to work with us please contact lutzgetdownpod@gmail.com Logo design by @dezisartvibes on Instagramxx Joce & Clauds
Welcome to episode 19 of The Ice Skating Podcast – brought to you by the International Skating Union. It's another packed edition, with two Grand Prix figure skating events to report from – the Gran Premio d'Italia in Turin and the NHK Trophy from Tokyo. And we've got interviews with the stars of both meetings, including Guillaume Cizeron and Gabriella Papadakis, Anna Shcherbakova, Loena Hendrickx, Shoma Uno, Anastasia Mishina, Alexander Galliamov, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsapalov. As if that wasn't enough, the ISU World Cup Speed Skating season kicked off last weekend in Poland, and produced some incredible results. We've got chats with Nils Van der Poel, Irene Schouten, Laurent Dubreuil and Brittany Bowe from that event. The Ice Skating Podcast is the official pod of the ISU, hosted every fortnight by Luke Norman and Nick Moore.
No matter the location, whether the Grand Prix is in Italy or China, this week's cohort of skaters, yet again, delivered some questionable rhythm dances and chaotic performances, leaving Claudia and Joce once again, emotionally scarred. The Ice Dance event saw the much anticipated return of Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron, who whacked and vogued their way to the top of the podium. Chinese team, Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu brought some blue suede shoes to the stage with their RD, while Alexandra Stepanova & Ivan Bukin took us through a tour of the boy-bands, fulfilling skating-Tik-Tok's king, Ivan's dreams. The Men's event was potentially hijacked by some aliens, with vague comments on their condition from Dmitri Aliev, jumps that were wild and yeeted into the atmosphere from the Italian men, and Jin Boyang and Kagiyama Yuma deciding that they would go from first to seventh and seventh to first. Definitely some UFOs (Unexpected Figure-skating Outcomes) seen this week.Timestamps:(00:00) - Intro(01:05) - News (so many withdrawals! :( again! )(03:43) - ICE DANCE(04:41) - Carolina Moscheni & Francesco Fioretti(06:08) - CHEN Hong & SUN Zhuoming(08:20) - Katharina Mueller & Tim Dieck(11:08) - Carolane Soucisse & Shane Firus(12:53) - Evgenia Lopareva & Geoffrey Brissaud(16:00) - Caroline Green & Michael Parsons(20:44) - WANG Shiyue & LIU Xinyu(24:41) - Alexandra Stepanova & Ivan Bukin(30:48) - Madison Hubbell & Zach Donohue(33:59) - Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron(39:24) - MEN(40:13) - Paul Fentz(41:30) - Gabriele Frangipani(45:44) - CHEN Yudong(47:57) - Dmitri Aliev(51:25) - Pëtr Gumennik(54:56) - JIN Boyang(1:00:03) - TOMONO Kazuki(1:04:19) - CHA Junhwan(1:07:34) - Deniss Vasiljevs(1:10:48) - Daniel Grassl(1:15:56) - Mikhail Kolyada(1:21:25) - KAGIYAMA Yuma(1:26:00) - Outro------------------------------------------------Follow our figure skating podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lutzgetdownpod/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/lutzgetdownpod And to work with us please contact lutzgetdownpod@gmail.com Logo design by @dezisartvibes on Instagramxx Joce & Clauds
