In fashion, there are stylists—and then there are image-makers. As the “C” in KCD and one of the first male editors to define women's fashion editorial, Paul Cavaco helped shape the modern visual vocabulary of the 1990s, styling everything from Harper's Bazaar under Liz Tilberis to Madonna's era-defining Sex book with Steven Meisel and Fabien Baron. Tonne Goodman, whose early days included modeling for Richard Avedon and assisting Diana Vreeland, brought that same instinct for clarity and cultural intuition to her longstanding role as the American fashion editor of Vogue. In a moment when the function—and future—of the fashion editor is being reexamined, hearing from two of its originals felt not only timely, but essential. Their conversation is a reminder that while fashion constantly reinvents itself, the value of vision and integrity never goes out of style. "I grew up in the Bronx. There was no fashion in my house. What we had was music, grit, and individuality." - Paul Cavaco  "Everything really does happen for a reason. Even the catastrophic moments usually lead to something better." - Tonne Goodman  Episode Highlights: The Bronx Meets the Upper East Side - Paul and Tonne reflect on their wildly different upbringings—his gritty childhood in the Bronx, hers in a cultured Manhattan household—and how those contrasting backgrounds shaped their approach to fashion and image-making. Modeling Missteps and Vreeland's Memo - Tonne shares how her short-lived modeling career ended with a memorable memo from Diana Vreeland describing her as “not pretty,” but still worth investing in—an early lesson in resilience and reinvention. From the Streets to the Studio - Paul shares how growing up in the Bronx and discovering style through music and street culture gave him a grounded, real-world approach to fashion—one rooted not in fantasy, but in everyday grit and individuality. The Madonna Sex Book and the Power of Play - Paul shares behind-the-scenes stories from the making of Madonna's Sex book, revealing how humor, trust, and improvisation drove one of pop culture's most provocative moments. Working Under Vreeland, Liz Tilberis, and Anna Wintour - Both editors reflect on their experiences working under three of fashion's most legendary editor-in-chiefs, and how those women shaped the way they understood vision, authority, and trust. Amber in Poughkeepsie - Tonne recounts a story of a shoot gone wrong—turned right—thanks to a vintage car parade and quick thinking. A reminder of how the best images often come from the unexpected. What a Fashion Editor Actually Does - They unpack the evolving role of the fashion editor—from doing everything themselves in the early days to navigating the micromanagement of today's content-saturated shoots. The Value of Niceness - In an industry known for egos and elitism, both credit their long-term success to gratitude, empathy, and kindness—and explain why being “nice” is often an underrated superpower. On Creative Longevity and Staying Awake - The key to keeping ideas fresh? Staying alive to the world. For Paul, it's about visual curiosity. For Tonne, it's emotional connection. For both, it's a refusal to become calcified. What's Contemporary Now - Tonne cites empathy and mutual care as the defining principles of the present, while Paul reflects on how enduring values—rather than trends—shape what really matters. Raised in Toronto on cinema classics by filmmakers such as David Lynch, Pedro Almodóvar, and Woody Allen, von Steiner moved to New York to attend NYU's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts. After an internship with GQ, he spoke to a friend at the artist agency Art & Commerce to seek advice on what to do next. New York–based photographer Ethan James Green is renowned for his distinct eye and the intimacy and openness portrayed in his work. An early career in modeling and exposure to some of the great photography visionaries of the times paved the path to a whirlwind career in fashion. Today his work, which has appeared in prominent publications and campaigns—including Dazed, i-D, M le Monde, Perfect, Vogue Italia, Vogue, and W, as well as Alexander McQueen, Dior, Fendi, and Louis Vuitton—spotlights elemental themes, such as contemporary identity, sexuality, and style. A published author, his books reflect on and display the scope of queer identity of the past decade, feminine performance, erotic costume, and beauty. Hailing from Michigan and raised in a religious household, he chats about his spiritual journey, as well as discovering and integrating with the queer community. In this episode, he relays to Christopher Michael how he shifts between his two worlds, of fashion as a photographer and art as a gallerist, highlighting the need to create bridges among generational aesthetics and perspectives. What's Contemporary Now? Being authentic, breaking rules, and moving forward even when it's uncomfortable. Episode Highlights: Point of entry: New York (via Tokyo) was the initial inspiration for the 17-year-old model. Working with the greats: Ethan learned a lot while modeling for some of the preeminent fashion photographers of the time, such as Steven Meisel (how to communicate a commanding, confident voice without aggression), Mikael Jansson, and David Sims (how to streamline the process of capturing iconic images and the tricks that facilitate success). Out of Michigan: Ethan staked his claim as a model—and ultimately a photographer—by leveraging determination and a homegrown portfolio that attracted notice. Turning point: Ethan's mentor is the artist and photographer behind the 2011 book "David Armstrong: 615 Jefferson Avenue"—he embodied and modeled integrity. Moving beyond: Ethan's fundamentalist upbringing proved a beautiful challenge, allowing a personal spiritual journey that led him to understand what was true for him. Doing the work: Integrating with the queer community opened Ethan to an entirely new community that replaced his childhood church community. Trans awareness: Understanding his struggle as a gay man in a broader context. Making it: The moment Ethan knew he'd made it: covers for Vanity Fair, Vogue, and an Alexander McQueen campaign. Then Rihanna! That was a moment. A perfect superstorm: Ethan became sober just before the pandemic and found himself subsequently challenged in his ability to connect as an artist and individual. Gravitating towards art: Ethan embraced an artistic ethic that opened up a transgenerational conversation across artists, galleries, and social media. Bridging spaces: To span modeling, photography, and now gallery art seamlessly, Ethan had to find brilliant collaborators; pursue other work before focusing on fashion photography; assist where he could; find a mentor; and break some rules! What's Contemporary Now? What's authentic to the moment, but also what's synthetic to the moment? It is mixing collaboration and multiple perspectives to advance the conversation, taking the next step, even if uncomfortable, and breaking the rules to move forward.

Chris Douglas was born and raised in East Tennessee along the Clinch River in Anderson County. Chris' interest in photography began at age 10, when he began by snapping photos of his surroundings – wildlife and family hunting trips. These passions have persisted. His love of the outdoors and wildlife continues to fuel the energetic quality of his current work. While attending the University of Tennessee, Chris was approached by a print scout and was sent to New York to work with world-class photographer Bruce Weber for famed fashion designer Gianni Versace. For the next four years he lived between New York, Paris and Milan and learned about the inner workings of the fashion business. He further developed his talents as a photographer while working with other notable photographers including Steven Meisel, Arthur Elgort, Norman Seeff, Bob Frame and Lance Staedler.  It was during those adventurous and educational years that Chris' developed his standards of exceptional quality and his commitment to providing clients with extraordinary imagery. As an accomplished traditional bowhunter and outdoorsman, Chris began getting disgruntled with city living and put down roots in Southwest Montana in the mid-90's, where he worked various ranches and competed as a saddle bronc contestant in rodeos throughout Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. It was during that time he was tapped by the producers of the famed 'Duck Dynasty' television program to host and partly shoot the Feeding Frenzy Series for The Discovery Channel (Bear Feeding Frenzy, Crocodile & Alligator Feeding Frenzy, Lion Feeding Frenzy).  These days, Chris' work still reflects his life as an outdoorsman, conservationist and cowboy and expresses the respect and gratitude he has for his Native American lineage. His concepts and images are emotional and engaging; relating a powerful, physical story and capture every detail of his subjects. His 25+ years of experience in every facet of the industry have enhanced Chris' skills as a sought-after creative and photographer, and contributed to his work in advertising, commercial, motion, and editorial imagery. After almost 2 years as the Creative Director at C.C. Filson in Seattle (2018-2019), Chris now works as an independent contractor Creative Director / Consultant and Photographer dividing his time between work locations and Montana where he lives with his wife, two children and their horses. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matt-brown57/support

As promised on Instagram, in this episode I'm going to go through the stunning September issue of British Vogue, with THE supermodel, Linda Evangelista on the cover. For this shoot, the Canadian super reunited with equally iconic photographer Steven Meisel, to create some truly fantastical images. But, as a photographer and a Linda fan, I've been torn about this shoot. Because while Linda looks stunning, a lot has been done to turn back time, to show us a Linda that existed decades ago. It's not that retouching in itself is the problem; but, when viewed alongside the interview with the supermodel, where she expresses that she no longer wants to see herself in a mirror, the images bring up a troubling disconnect. So in this episode I break down what makes a September issue so special, who the Big Five of modelling were back in the '90s and then hone in on the efforts made to create what is undoubtedly a dreamy love letter to an iconic fashion figure.

What Makes You Click with Kelvin Bulluck

On this episode of What Makes You Click, Kelvin welcomes Andrew Eccles, an award-winning photographer that has been shooting celebrities, models, athletes, politicians, musicians, and dancers for over three decades. Listen in as Andrew sheds light on some of the most powerful, career-defining projects of his life, along with his candid thoughts on the profound connection between the photographer and their subject and the loss of the “very magical process” of being a photographer. Having somehow landed the position as Annie Leibovitz's assistant in the 80s, Andrew takes us back in time to his odd international upbringing and his journey in discovering the intricacy of photography. Andrew and Kelvin reflect on what it means for photography to be “clean”, how to overcome complacency and burn out in your career, and the impactful differences between film and digital.  Plus, Andrew shares what he would do differently and what he would do the same if he started his artistic career over again! About the Guest:Andrew Eccles was born in England and grew up in Toronto, Canada. His family moved to Hawaii when he was twelve where he attended high school for two years before returning to Vancouver and graduating there. He spent three years at The Ontario College of Art followed by two years in Texas before eventually settling in New York City. It was there that he began to pursue photography seriously. Within four months Andrew landed an apprenticeship with Annie Leibovitz lasting three years. That was followed by brief stints working alongside Robert Mapplethorpe and Steven Meisel. In 1987, Andrew became a professional photographer himself and has been shooting celebrities, models, athletes, politicians, musicians, and dancers ever since. When Carolyn Murphy started modeling, she didn't have a long-term plan. But thirty years later, her career is still going strong.  “I didn't develop a business sense … until much, much later [in my career] -- probably until after I gave birth to my daughter,” she said on the latest Glossy Podcast. “And it was like, ‘Oh! I'm a mom, and I've got to get it together.' This year, Murphy is celebrating 20 years as the face of Estee Lauder, making her the longest-reigning spokesmodel in the industry. Among her latest jobs was walking in the Michael Kors 40th anniversary runway show, for fall 2021, which played out online last week.  “There's a lot of dialogue around what's going to happen to fashion week [after] Covid, and there are adaptations that have taken place -- it's been more about filming,” she said. “But I hope that actual fashion week does come back. Because, no matter what, connection is so important; we're all stronger and happier together.” Murphy's career took off in the mid-'90s, when she landed a French Vogue cover, followed by a Prada campaign shot by David Sims. Soon after, she booked an American Vogue cover with models Shalom Harlow and Amber Valletta. “Then I started working with [photographer] Steven Meisel, and it just all took off,” she said. She's since found smart ways to build on her modeling career: She's collaborated on products with Shinola and has a new collab with Mother Denim that's getting set to roll out. Also coming soon is “an online journalistic magazine of sorts,” which she's calling “Mama Murphy's,” for the time being. Plus she's working on two books, including a fiction novel.   “I never really want it to be about me,” she said. “I always want to pay it forward; I want to do things that have purpose and meaning.”

Approaching four decades of working together, fashion designer Anna Sui and R+Co co-founder Garren often set the tone for where hair and fashion are going. Having met in the '80s through photographer Steven Meisel on a shoot for Italian Vogue, the two creatives had a mind-meld that couldn't be broken. At the time, Sui worked as a wardrobe stylist, but her aesthetic was clear: “Anna was really into pattern on pattern on pattern on pattern, and I was just watching her, how she was absorbing everything,” says Garren. “And, then there was a moment when Steven said to her, ‘You need to start designing.'” Naturally, Garren became part of the team to perfect Sui's first fashion show, which starred all of the supermodels of the time—think: Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell. And the duo still collaborates today, the latest project being Sui's exclusive ocelot-print robe for R+Co BLEU. Here, the two chat about the robe's history as well as the thought that went into creating it.

In this third episode of the Podcast Live by Crina Okumus, I talk to the beautiful Angela Lindvall. Angela is a model, actress, yogi, and a mother of two beautiful boys. She was featured on the cover of Italian Vogue in 1997, photographed by Steven Meisel. She was featured on many top magazine covers in the late 1990s and the early 2000s, such as Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Maria Claire, Numero, W, i-D, V, and so on. And during the peak of her long career, she was always the world's top designers' favorite, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Stella McCartney. She was a Prada Girl and a Chanel Girl. She has worked as the face of Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, Prada, Calvin Klein, Miu Miu, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Versace, DKNY, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi, Missoni, Jil Sander, and Jimmy Choo. As an actress, she has appeared in several films, including CQ in 2001 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005 and Small Apartments in 2010. She was the host of the fashion reality series Project Runway: All-Stars, an extension of the popular series Project Runway.Angela is a tremendously inspiring woman of many talents. While at the peak of her modeling career, she became pregnant. Voices from the industry told her she would be jeopardizing her career should she decide to continue with the pregnancy. Angela persisted in the face of pressure, became a happy mother, and never looked at the industry through the same lense. Her story is emblematic of the unique struggles women endure when chasing their dreams.Since a young age, she has always been drawn to human consciousness, metaphysics, Ancient cultures, and spirituality. She began to privately study feverishly at the age of 15- questioning life's purpose and researching as a hobby. After becoming a mother of two, and slowing down her career, she became a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher, Health coach, and recently started her certification as a Doula. Being “The Mother” she considers her true calling and purpose in life. For over 3 years she has been envisioning and creating the direction to share this purpose beyond her own children. In addition to her career, Angela openly talked about some of the most meaningful events in her life:- Her definition of BEAUTY- Another view of the fashion industry after becoming a mother- Her story with COVID-19 - The loss of her younger sister at an early age- The importance of caring for the mind and the body with discipline and commitment - What are we doing with our time and the people that we love - Her new Passion Project: Peace Begins in Meand many more topics...What struck me the most was Angela’s openness to sharing what most of us might think of as sensitive information. When you combine this openness with the curiosity that comes from years of challenging experiences, what you see is an intellectually curious, wise, and loving person who transcends herself to talk about the human condition per se. Thank you, Angela, for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me. I feel truly blessed. To all our listeners, kindly support us by liking this video and subscribing to our channel! With love and good wishes,Crina O.

Russell and Robert meet Edward Enninful OBE, editor-in-chief of British Vogue. Over the past two and a half years as editor-in-chief of the famed publication, he has helped shape a new vision for fashion media — not just in the UK, but globally — where he has placed a “diversity of perspective” at its core.Enninful has described his vision for British Vogue as “about being inclusive. It’s not just the colour of your skin but the diversity of perspective.” He has made art a priority including interviews and features with artists as varied as Lubaina Himid, Steve McQueen (who is Vogue's Contributing Editor), Luchita Hurtado, Celia Hempton, Anthea Hamilton, Lorna Simpson, Mark Bradford, Nathaniel Mary Quinn, Frank Bowling, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Howardena Pindell, Bridget Riley, Toyin Ojih Odutola, Rosalind Nashashibi, Maggi Hambling, Huguette Caland, Tracey Emin, Grayson Perry and Rachel Whiteread. He has also profiled curators and museum directors such as Zoé Whitley (Chisenhale), Maria Balshaw (Tate) as well as writer Zadie Smith and photographers including Nadine Ijewere, Tyler Mitchell and Campbell Addy. In 2019, Enninful presented the Turner Prize, in an historic year where all four nominees won the prize.Ghanaian-born Enninful began his career as fashion director of British youth culture magazine i-D at age 18, the youngest ever to have been named an editor at a major international fashion title. After moving to London with his parents and six siblings at a young age, Enninful was scouted as a model on the train at 16 and briefly modelled for Arena and i-D magazines including being shot by artist Wolfgang Tillmans.Inspired by London’s club scene in the 1980s, Enninful’s work during this period captured the frenetic energy and creative zeitgeist of the time. It was also during this time that he befriended many of his future fashion collaborators, including Steven Meisel, David Smins, Pat McGrath, Craig McDean, Mario Sorrenti, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. For British Vogue, Enninful ’s covers have consistently featured strong women who promote messages of empowerment: Stella Tennant, Oprah Winfrey, Adwoa Aboah, Naomi Campbell, Rihanna, not to mention his September 2019 edition guest-edited by Meghan Markle HRH Duchess of Sussex, which featured 15 trailblazing female changemakers including Greta Thunberg and Jane Fonda on the cover.Enninful was awarded an OBE for his services to diversity in the fashion industry, and in 2018 he received the Media Award in Honour of Eugenia Sheppard from the CFDA in recognition of his career-long contribution to the fashion industry.Follow @Edward_Enninful and @BritishVogue. Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele has always been a woman who follows the beat of her own drum. She speaks her mind. Follows her gut. And has an unparalleled eye when it comes to making unexpected sartorial combinations work. The godmother of the high/low fashion mix, she famously and fearlessly combined the most basic pair of stonewashed denim jeans with a Christian Lacroix haute couture top that featured a beaded and bejeweled cross for Anna Wintour’s very first American Vogue cover as the magazine’s editor-in-chief, back in 1988. It was a watershed fashion moment that people point to as the harbinger of modern fashion. Where wearing off the rack garments with custom pieces is not just permitted, it is expected and encouraged as a way of expressing one’s true character through their clothing. Carlyne made the street not only chic but cool. Born in Saint-Tropez in the south of France, as soon as she could, Carlyne got herself to Paris, the heart of the fashion action. There she let her innate sense of style speak for itself, first at Marie Claire then at Elle, before she left for the United States to work at American Vogue. She is an instinctive layerer - I know that isn’t a real word but Carlyne is famous for making up her own so I am sure she would approve. She loves to pile on the accessories and clothing until a look is just right. Even if that means very little layering at all. Her career is also multilayered. She is a stylist, fashion director, and creative consultant all rolled into one slender powerhouse. She has worked with the best photographers and designers in the business. From Irving Penn and Richard Avedon to Patrick Demarchelier and Steven Meisel. Helmut Newton even captured her on film at her most dramatic. And she shaped the iconic visual identity of both Versace and Chanel during the 1990s, and today gives Jeremy Scott’s Moschino collections her unique polish. Carlyne and I caught up over tea in the heart of Paris, just off the rue saint honoré in a busy little cafe. And while there are lots of things I admire about her, perhaps what I admire most is that even after so many years as an insider at the top of the fashion pyramid she still sees herself as an outsider. She calls it like she sees it. And what an eye she has.

Chris Douglas was born and raised in East Tennessee along the Clinch River in Anderson County. Chris’ interest in photography began at age 10, when he began by snapping photos of his surroundings – wildlife and family hunting trips. These passions have persisted. His love of the outdoors and wildlife continues to fuel the energetic quality of his current work. While attending the University of Tennessee, Chris was approached by a print scout and was sent to New York to work with world-class photographer Bruce Weber for for famed fashion designer Gianni Versace. For the next four years he lived between New York, Paris and Milan and learned about the inner workings of the fashion business. He further developed his talents as a photographer while working with other notable photographers including Steven Meisel, Arthur Elgort, Norman Seef, Bob Frame and Lance Staedler. It was during those adventurous and educational years that Chris’ developed his standards of exceptional quality and his commitment to providing clients with extraordinary imagery. As an accomplished traditional bowhunter and outdoorsman, Chris began getting disgruntled with city living and put down roots in Southwest Montana in the mid-90’s, where he worked various ranches and competed as a saddle bronc contestant in rodeos throughout Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. It was during that time he was tapped by the producers of the famed 'Duck Dynasty' television program to host and partly shoot the Feeding Frenzy Series (https://go.discovery.com/tv-shows/feeding-frenzy/full-episodes/lion-feeding-frenzy)  for The Discovery Channel (Bear Feeding Frenzy, Crocodile & Alligator Feeding Frenzy, Lion Feeding Frenzy).  These days, Chris’ work still reflects his life as an outdoors man, conservationist and cowboy and expresses the respect and gratitude he has for his Native American lineage. His concepts and images are emotional and engaging; relating a powerful, physical story and capture every detail of his subjects. His 25 years of experience in every facet of the industry have enhanced Chris' skills as a sought-after creative and photographer, and contributed to his work in advertising, commercial, motion, and editorial imagery. After almost 2 years as the Creative Director at C.C. Filson (https://www.filson.com/) in Seattle, Chris now works as an independent contractor Creative Director / Consultant and Photographer dividing his time between work locations and Montana where he lives with his wife, two children and their horses. On this week’s episode of the B&H Photography Podcast, we welcome a true photography legend—curator, critic, and author, Vince Aletti.  Anyone who lived in New York in the 1980s and ’90s, and is interested in photography, will know of Aletti as the photography critic at the Village Voice. He went on to review photo exhibitions at The New Yorker until 2016. He has also curated exhibitions at the International Center of Photography and White Columns gallery, and has authored many books, including his latest, Issues: A History of Photography in Fashion Magazines, which he joins us to discuss. In addition to his writing and curating, Aletti is a collector, and has created a collection of the most important issues of fashion magazines from the past 100 years. The book, Issues, employs that collection to offer a history of fashion photography as it was meant to be viewed—in magazines, and our conversation focuses on the context of the magazine as “the ideal delivery system” for the best photography of several generations. We discuss the beginning of fashion magazines and introduction of photography to that format and we spend time discussing the work of Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, and Steven Meisel by looking at issues of magazines for which they were the primary, if not sole, photographer. The production of these magazines—Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue Italia, The Face, for example—are mentioned, as are the creative directors, editors, and stylists, but the point of this enlightening conversation (and Aletti’s book) is how great photographers have used the specific format of the fashion magazine for their ground-breaking and ever-evolving images. The awesome valuation sent shockwaves through the industry, particularly because most of our attention in this space has been turned to brands like Kylie Cosmetics and Glossier. In this age of massive beauty fortunes being built on a single personality, McGrath would seem an obvious choice to ride this road to success. So why the surprise? This week on LADY’s After Hours, fashion and cultural historian Laura McLaws Helms meets with fashion designer Anna Sui. Born in Detroit in 1952, from a young age Sui became obsessed with fashion, music and New York. Sui achieved her dream when she moved to NYC to study fashion design at Parsons, but left after two years to work as an assistant designer at a juniors’ sportswear label. In 1980 she started her own company with $300. With the help of best friends Steven Meisel and Paul Cavaco, Sui launched herself into the fashion stratosphere in 1991 with her supermodel-heavy first runway show. In 1992 Sui opened her first store and won the CFDA Perry Ellis award for new talent. Sell-out collections at the major department stores and celebrity endorsements from such megastars as Madonna led to more stores, diffusion lines, perfumes and a makeup collection. Anna speaks openly about her slow road to “overnight success” and the business deals and collaborations that allowed her to expand her empire and to maintain control privately of her company. A fascinating interview for anyone interested in the inspiration, research, hard work and business behind the clothes you wear. EP 33: Victoria Hunter (the Thunder from Down Under) and Larry Raspanti, deliver a profound talk on what it takes to run a successful Hair Salon in the Jungle known as New York City. Equipped with over 40 years of combined expertise, these 2 Entrepreneurs share their Social Media Strategies and how Bob Marley was a True Rasta-Man! What does it take to make a positive impact in the world of Beauty and Fashion? Join us as Victoria Hunter and Larry Raspanti shares their Entrepreneurial mindset and an inside glance at their journey to becoming successful Entrepreneurs in the world of Beauty, Fashion and War! [shadowbox] It’s my pleasure to introduce 2 seasoned professionals in the world of Hair Styling, Color, Hair Painting and Entrepreneurship. Their New York City based Salon, ‘The Whittemore-House’ has been featured in almost every major metropolitan magazine to include Time, NY Daily News, Elle, Salon Today, Allure and GQ to name a few. [/shadowbox] Victoria Hunter - Bio Victoria Hunter approaches hair color with the discerning eye of a fine artist. As a pioneer of the “hair painting” genre, Hunter studies every head of hair like a 3 Dimensional canvas – intuitively deciding where to place the perfect pop of auburn or unexpected streak of dusty lavender. While in Hunter’s chair, no creative vision is off limits; over the course of her career, she has made a name for herself as the gold standard of hair color for countless models, cool girls, editors, stylists and celebrities and has become the go-to colorist for famed stylist Guido Palau. A native of Queensland, Australia, Hunter honed her skills in Melbourne, London and Hong Kong before arriving in New York to serve as the color director of Bumble and bumble. In 2007, she achieved widespread recognition for her innovative hair painting method as the first ever recipient of the Hair and Beauty Award at the Colour Secrets Gala in Frankfurt. Two years later, Hunter left Bumble and bumble to open Whittemore House Salon with partner Larry Raspanti. Located in the bucolic setting of a tree-lined street in the West Village, Whittemore House Salon serves as a hub for in-the-know New Yorkers (and beyond). On an average day at Whittemore, one might witness Hunter creating an army of muted pastel wigs for the recent Marc Jacobs Fall 2014 fashion show while simultaneously transforming the model of the moment. Over the course of her career, Hunter has collaborated with some of the most iconic photographers of our time, including Steven Klein, Steven Meisel, Ellen von Unwerth, Mert and Marcus, Inez and Vinoodh, David LaChapelle, and David Sims. Her work has been featured in countless editorials, including American Vogue, Italian Vogue, Numero, ELLE, W, i-D and Interview magazines, to name a few. As one of the most in-demand visionaries in the fashion industry, she has created looks for a laundry list of iconic advertising campaigns, from Dolce & Gabbana to Lanvin to Alexander McQueen. Most recently, Hunter’s work can be seen in campaigns for Prada, Lanvin, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs. This past spring, she teamed up with Steven Meisel to create three cover stories for Italian Vogue. Hunter maintains an ardent passion for her signature hair painting method and continues to lead master classes on the technique around the world, including her main hub of Whittemore House Salon in New York. She believes there is no one “rule” to creating the perfect color, and instead works with stylists to develop an eye for color and tone, texture and style. As a result, the signature of Whittemore House—and of Hunter—is a bespoke look that is at once as effortless and seamless as it is unique. Larry Raspanti - Bio Larry Raspanti has always questioned traditional assumptions about hair and the application of color, which led him to the art of hair painting. Over the years, Larry has developed this modern way of coloring hair, bringing it from its infancy to the elevated craft it is today. He is an authority on men’s fashion and grooming, and is often backstage at fashion events and runways shows. As a result Larry has traveled the world extensively. He approaches hair with the perspective of an architect, deconstructing its three dimensionality, which he expresses both in cut and color. His inherent design capabilities have influenced his highly intuitive cutting techniques. A natural entrepreneur, he opened Whittemore House with Victoria Hunter in 2009.
