New Zealand beekeeper Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepalese sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first team to summit Mount Everest on May 29, 1953. Their historic feat turned the pair into an international symbol of adventure, courage and teamwork. Joining Melissa for this special episode of Passport to Everywhere are the duo's sons, Peter Hillary and Jamling Tanzing Norgay, who have carried on their families' legacy. Peter Hillary is an author, motivational speaker, expedition leader and mountaineer, and he first ascended Everest in 1990. Since then, he's completed the Seven Summits, the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. Jamling Tenzing Norgay is a climber, mountain guide, author and motivational speaker. He became the star of the IMAX documentary Everest when he summited the mountain in 1996. While on location for a film shoot in Nepal for Indagare's partnership with Bank of America, the two spoke with Melissa and shared stories passed down from their fathers' daring expeditions. They reveal insights into their fathers' background: Tenzing grew up raising yaks and ran away from his village to answer what he describes as the “calling of the Mountain;” for Edmund “it was love at first sight” on a school trip in the outdoors. They explore inspiring lessons of leadership, the impact of tourism on Mount Everest and the work of their foundations that give back to Nepalese communities. Plus, tune in to discover firsthand accounts at Buckingham Palace, Jamling's dangerous experience while filming Everest and their advice for becoming a great climber.

Meet Tenzing Chogyal Sherpa, grandson of Kanchha Sherpa's the last surviving member of Hillary and Tenzing's 1953 Everest expedition, the first men to stand at the peak of Mount Everest! Listen to Tenzing Chogyal Sherpa as he talks about the strong bonds built in the mountain for survival and the difficulties experienced by Sherpa Mountaineers having to linger between the worlds of the sanctity of the Mountains and the mountain ascensions to make a living to support their families and why along his grandfather, he has become a restless advocate for education. Tenzing Chogyal is one of the key researchers from the glaciology team in the National Geographic and Rolex Everest Expedition, which installed one of the highest Automatic Weather Stations in the world. Unlike his grandfather, he is not a mountaineer, but a scientist, namely, a glaciologist at ICIMOD, with extensive experience conducting glaciohydrological expeditions and geophysical surveys across Nepal, whose research concentrates mostly in understanding the dynamics of glaciers in the Hindu Kush Himalayan Region as well as their evolution with the changing climate and how these changes could impact people living in mountain regions, specifically in the context of glacial hazards. Learn about how glaciers and glacial lakes move in the Himalayas Region and how through movement they sculpt our landscape and act as indicators of climate change and global warming. In this episode, Tenzing warns us about the seriousness of ice melting in the Himalayas and shares how he bounds science and the sense of spiritual connection of the Sherpa Community to prevent and adapt to the challenges exposed by powerful potential environmental catastrophes.

In the fourth episode of CPR's new series titled, Spotlight South Asia, we analyze the developments in Bhutan. Hosted by Senior Fellow, Sushant Singh, this series features leading experts from India's neighborhood to make sense of the political, economic and social developments in these countries and what they mean for India. Our guest for this episode is Tenzing Lamsang, the Editor of The Bhutanese, a private newspaper in Thimphu, Bhutan. He is also the President of the Media Association of Bhutan. Tenzing and Sushant draw a comparison between pre-pandemic and post-pandemic Bhutan. They discuss the economic situation in the country, particularly keeping tourism and hydropower, the two big economic earners for the country, as their focus. Tenzing also shares about the culture in Bhutan, what the customs and traditions are like. How are the social indicators holding up? Has democracy gotten embedded in the country? Has the influx of social media impacted journalism? How does today's India look from Bhutan? Sushant and Tenzing also explore these questions. Finally, Tenzing comments on whether Bhutan sees China with a sense of fear or opportunity.

Interventional Neuroradiologist Dr. Hannes Nordmeyer and Biomedical Engineer Dr. Matt Gounis discuss compositions of tough clots, approaches to stroke thrombectomy, and bailout stenting. --- CHECK OUT OUR SPONSOR CERENOVUS https://www.jnjmedicaldevices.com/en-US/companies/cerenovus --- SHOW NOTES In this episode, interventional neuroradiologist Dr. Hannes Nordmeyer, biomedical engineering professor Dr. Matt Gounis, and our host Dr. Michael Barraza discuss compositions of tough clots, approaches for stroke thrombectomy, and bailout stenting. Dr. Nordmeyer believes that interventionalists are still struggling to find the most effective method for pulling clots. He says that the use of double stent retrievers has shown high success rates, but it would be ideal to have one retriever that can work on its own. He describes his equipment setup for a standard large vessel occlusion. Dr. Nordmeyer notes clot location and behavior within the first two passes determines whether or not the operator should continue with the stent retrieval approach or change the approach. Dr. Gounis evaluates various devices by defining “success” as achievement of TICI 3 with the first pass. He comments on the current development of very large bore aspiration catheters, such as the 088 Millipede catheter and the Tenzing catheter. He also emphasizes that the success of the procedure relies largely on the composition of the embolus. Fibrin-rich clots are less likely to integrate with the stent retriever. We discuss Dr. Nordmeyer's technique, which utilizes a microcatheter and the NIMBUS device to pin and retrieve the challenging clot. We also cover bailout stenting and the benefits of recanalization when clot removal is not possible. --- RESOURCES SWIFT DIRECT Trial: https://www.swift-direct.ch/the-swift-direct-trial/ Preclinical Evaluation of Millipede 088 Intracranial Aspiration Catheter: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32606100/ The Novel Tenzing 7 Delivery Catheter Designed to Deliver Intermediate Catheters to the Face of Embolus Without Crossing: https://jnis.bmj.com/content/13/8/722 Factors Influencing Recanalization After Mechanical Thrombectomy With First-Pass Effect for Acute Ischemic Stroke: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fneur.2021.628523/full NIMBUS Geometric Clot Extractor: https://www.jnjmedicaldevices.com/en-EMEA/news-events/cerenovus-launches-nimbustm-geometric-clot-extractor-remove-tough-clots
