Welcome to the Dressage Today Podcast. This special bonus episode, sponsored by Cosequin, is with 2023 Neue Schule/USEF Grand Prix National Champion, Codi Harrison. Codi sat down to chat with guest host Julia Buitenhuis at the 2023 U.S. Dressage Festival of Champions after winning both the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special aboard her 16-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, Katholt's Bossco. Just 27-years-old, this young star then went on to place third in the Grand Prix Freestyle, effectively securing the title of 2023 National Champion. Codi and "Bossco" began their partnership in 2015 and have made their way from Young Riders to U25 and finally the senior Grand Prix, all under the tutelage of Olympian Lars Petersen. Codi shared that she feels lucky to have a trainer that did not want her to buy a made horse and would not make the horse for her. Instead, Lars taught her how to create a Grand Prix horse. That hard work paid off in 2018 when Codi and Bossco won the USEF Young Adult Brentina Cup Dressage National Championship. Now, five years later, they were crowned national champions at the senior Grand Prix level, and Codi has her sights set on a spot on U.S. team for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile this October.Website: https://dressagetoday.comVideo Subscription Site: https://ondemand.dressagetoday.com/catalogSocial Media Links:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DressageTodayInstagram: @DressageTodayTwitter: @DressageTodayPinterest: @DressageTodayEmail: sruff@equinenetwork.comSponsor: https://www.cosequin.com/horses

Today, I'm interviewing Trooper Johnson, who recently resigned as coach of the USA Women's National Team. Coach Johnson is a former US Men's player, and has also coached at the junior, U23, U25, and Paralympic level. His recent resignation came shortly after his rehiring as the US Women's coach, after allegations of emotional misconduct flooded facebook and instagram. In this second installment of our two-part series, we're diving into the allegations and the protocols that govern how the NWBA treats those allegations. And just as a quick disclaimer, the views expressed in this episode do not reflect the views of it's creators. I hope you enjoy this episode of the PUSH podcast. Chad Cheeney is the co-founder of Durango Devo, a non-profit mountain bike program for kids in Durango, Colorado. Since the program began in 2006, Chad has coached thousands of young riders, including Sepp Kuss, Christopher Blevins, Sarah Sturm, and Howard Grotts. But beyond those who have gone on to become world title holding pros, many more have achieved the program's central objective: becoming life long riders. Chad talks to Payson about why he wanted to start a development program out of college and why he prioritizes fun and exploration over structured training. They also talk about their shared memories of Durango Sweet Elite, a U25 team that was created for graduates of Fort Lewis College and alumni of Durango Devo. In 2013 when Chad was Team Manager, the roster included Payson, Sepp Kuss, Sarah Sturm, and Stephan Davoust. They discuss some of Chad's unconventional coaching methods that cultivated memorable moments between the races, and how his emphasis on community and team building has carried over into the training practices of some of Durango's most successful pros. They also talk about how his coaching has changed since he became a father, and the moment he learned that Sepp Kuss had won a stage at the Tour de France.

Perseverance is far from easy. When you get tossed off your horse and break your back, or when a tragic crash shatters bones in your body, you could be forgiven for giving up. However, Christina Gokey-Smith of Team Colavita never got that memo about giving up. She's battled hardship, injury, and adversity to get to where she is among the elite of crit racing in North America. As she has gotten older she hasn't slowed down; but rather gotten better and stronger. Each year she dedicates herself to refining and developing new traits to improve her training and performance; including delving deep into meditation and mindfulness, two often overlooked elements of athletics. In late 2017, long after most teams were formed and with full rosters, she and long-time friend Tina Pic, picked up the pieces of Team Colavita, a legendary women's organization with a storied history. Through trial and error, and with some serious bumps along the way, they cobbled together a group of women who would in time become sisters and cement themselves as the best crit team in the United States. They have the hardware to prove it, with the overall women's team title and best U25 racer jersey from the 2019 USACRITS competition.
