In this episode we go Beyond the Core with Vince Scully chief Sherpa at Life Sherpa. We explore the core satellite approach to investment, a strategy designed to balance stability and growth in your portfolio. This method involves maintaining a core of low-cost, largely indexed funds while allowing for smaller, more dynamic investments—the satellites—that can capture emerging trends and opportunities.Blog post available at: https://www.sharesforbeginners.com/blog/vince-scully-core-satellitePortfolio tracker Sharesight tracks your trades, shows your true performance, and saves you time and money at tax time. Baseball, Romance, Announcers, & Music Baseball has to have the right announcers to be truly enjoyed… their excitement, their tone of voice makes the game more exciting right? I see a lot of great baseball plays on YouTube. The announcer always adds an extra thrill to the games. Baseballs being caught at 100 mph bare handed, acrobatic leaps and catches, painful slides.. The really good announcers describe these amazing plays with such verve, your imagination ALMOST fills in the actual plays… but not quite. Because really you want the real action . Even more importantly, the announcers have to know how to describe each play when they are calling plays because millions do just listen to the game rather than watch it .Vince Scully goes down in History as the best announcer because he could paint that picture of each play. The baseball announcer is absolute key to the enjoyment and thrill of the game. Here's a great example: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx0en_jtZtylCexb1M5NVTA7VZ8A3sOpnA?si=rOwQootaS6T8r6X7 MAKING A QUANTUM LEAP to ROMANCE and MUSIC:: romance fits into this lighthearted summer topic AND BILL SCALZITTI informs us that Romance needs the right kind of… MUSIC especially romantic music. I'm excited to share this podcast episode with Vince Scully from Life Sherpa as we delve into the recipe for creating a sustainable ETF portfolio. It's not all about finding the highest return. We talk about the average punter's view of risk in the stock market. Risk isn't just about the chance of a company going bankrupt and losing all your hard-earned dollars. Instead, risk is about the variability of outcomes and the probability of achieving your financial goals.More info about Life Sherpa at this link: https://www.sharesforbeginners.com/life-sherpaHere's a link to the blog post: https://www.sharesforbeginners.com/blog/life-sherpa-investment-returnsPortfolio tracker Sharesight records your trades, shows your true performance, and saves you time and money at tax time. In this episode I'm joined by Vince Scully as we delved into the world of financial advice. When should you start to seeking it, how much it should cost and a crucial discussion about the difference between "financial advice" and "investment advice". These two are often conflated but they serve different purposes. We spoke about the value of advice and how it helps to achieve financial independence and your life goals. But we did have a couple of questions about the costs touted by Money Smart at this link: Financial advice costs - Moneysmart.gov.au. Superannuation represents about a fifth of the net worth of Australian households. There's over $2.2 trillion invested in super growing at $100 billion every quarter. Choosing the right superannuation fund is one of the most significant financial decisions you will ever have to make. The choices are mind-boggling. Joining me in this episode is Vince Scully from Life Sherpa.“It's the curse of too much choice. It's like logging into Netflix, it takes you longer to choose which movie to watch than actually watching it. And that's where default and stapling came in. It's the play something for me Netflix don't make me make a choice, but there are so many pluses to actually making a choice. But how do you make a choice if you don't have the knowledge?”Link to Life Sherpa: Get More Life From Your Money | Life Sherpa®Link to blog post: https://www.sharesforbeginners.com/blog/lifesherpa2023Phil's Linktree: https://linktr.ee/phil_muscatelloShares for Beginners is a production of Finpods Pty Ltd. Part 2 of Superannuation with Life Sherpa. Important that you listen to Part 1 first. On board today is Vince Scully, better known as the Life Sherpa and Author of the popular book the Latte Fallacy which aims to dispel many common personal finance myths (like that ordering a latte or smashed avocado will stop you owning a home). Vince is a licenced financial advisor, and with over 40 years experience in the industry he has only just recently reached preservation age and is set to retire. Vince and I chew the fat on wealth, Financial Independence, Retirement, and how superannuation fits into the picture. Superannuation is a pretty massive topic, so Vince and I tackle it from a few different angles - including; •Discussions on the evolution of Super •When and where it may or may not be appropriate •The different types and structures of super available (industry funds, Wrap accounts and SMSF), •The effect of fee's on your super performance •Insurance within your super, and •sensible asset allocation for your super. We look at the four important focus areas and decisions you have to make when selecting your super, and explore the trade-off of the tax benefits of super versus the flexibility of other investment structures. We also cover some interesting and important wealth topics such as home ownership, car loans and the concept of Human Capital and why early retirement might not be such a good thing. Because it is such a big topic and I had such an awesome time chatting to Vince, I have broken it down into two parts. I didn't want to cut too much away on the editing room floor, because there are so many gems in here and actually to produce this took over four hours of interviews.
