So sometimes friendships fizzle and gradually fade. Sometimes there's a HUGE blowout and you give each other the middle finger and never speak again. But what happens when POOF! Suddenly your best friend, or even just a friend in general, just stops communicating with you? Is she mad? Did I do something? Have I been doing something and she is just now had it up to her eyeballs? Did I sleep with her husband and have amnesia? What the F is going on? She won't answer my calls, my texts, or acknowledge the card I wrote her. I'm at the point where I may go on her lawn like in "Say Anything" (I'm dating myself here) with a boom box blasting Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes". Ghosting is actually more common than you think. I had NO clue so many people have had this experience and no answers, no closure. It can drive someone MAD figuring out what happened and how to fix it. But what if it can't be fixed? How do you move on and let go? This episode is for you if you are nodding to anything above or simply want to be prepared in case you're broken up with and have no answers why. I hope what I talk about makes you feel better about the situation, knowing that it probably has nothing to do with you (unless you did indeed sleep with her husband), and how to get in a better mental state about letting go of a friendship. Mom Card Drawing: "If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet..." -Fred Rogers (Could we all have a Fred Rogers in our motherhood world?!) In this episode, I share my top 5 health tips to help you prepare for a healthy 2022. Before I share a summary of the resources I must provide a disclaimer: All of the information in this podcast is for general informational and educational purposes only. I do not practice medicine and do not make any guarantees about the following recommendations. This information is not intended to treat or cure any medical conditions. Please consult a qualified health professional. 1. Have a Blood Test for Your Vitamin D Levels: This is a simple blood work test and important to know because the importance of maintaining optimal levels of vitamin D can't be overstated. It is estimated 80% of Americans are deficient. But you can't know unless you get the blood test done at your PCP or at a clinic like https://www.anylabtestnow.com/. Ideally, aim for a target Vitamin D level of 50ng/mL. When I was first tested I was in the 20s now I'm in the mid 40s. 2. Take a Vitamin D Supplement: This a vitamin traditionally associated with strong bones and is increasingly believed to play a role in a healthy immune system. The best whole food source for Vitamin D is salmon, with some also found in sardines, tuna and eggs. Research suggests that Vitamin D is best supplemented along with Vitamin K2 such as in this combination tablet from Vitacost. Vitamin D supplementation is best performed with blood level monitoring by your physician since uptake can vary by individual. 3. Take an Inflammatory Food Sensitivity Test: Just like with Vitamin D there is no way to know what foods cause inflammation in your body without blood work. This should be part of all health and wellness check-ins but it's worth it. I had this 100 food panel test done https://previmedica.com/products/100-foods-alcat-test-panel and attached my results so you can get a sense of what this $350 test gets you. A little pricey but it also comes with a 30-min call with a nutritionist to review your results 4. Partner with a Health Coach! I believe in the power of coaching, and I've got access to a network of coaches who I am happy to recommend. They are not nutritionists but help you clarify your health vision and create strategies that work for you. Coaching works! 5. Consider a DPC for your Primary Care Needs: I am 100% behind this model of primary care. It stands for Direct Plan Clinic. It is a monthly membership that is not covered by insurance...so why am I recommending it? Well imagine your primary care doctor spending between 30-60 min with you on each visit, you can text them, and it includes all visits without copays and they can do basic labs (like Vitamin D) and more. The typical primary care doctor who is part of an insurance fee for service sees 3,000 patients a year and the average DPCs only have a roster of a few hundred. When you remove the insurance company the provider can spend more time with patients and they can refer you to specialists that do take insurance if you need them. My family signed up for a DPC practice here in Durham called AccessiBull and I interviewed another DPC practice on my podcast, The Fischer Clinic if you want to take a listen here. *Bonus Tip: Get a personalized supplement recommendation at https://www.insidetracker.com/

Garrett Greller is the Co-Founder of Uncle Bud’s Hemp. The company offers a collection of pain relief, skincare, sun care, personal care, and pet care products. He attended Indiana University from 2014 to 2016 and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Creative Advertising and New Media Marketing. The founding of Uncle Bud’s Hemp originated with a problem Garrett faced as a teen - at just 16 he was diagnosed with arthritis. He tried a variety of medicines to relieve his pain, but nothing worked. Eventually, he experimented with hemp oil from a dispensary and found that it greatly reduced his pain without any negative side effects. However, shortly after finding this helpful solution, he moved to Indiana for college where the oil was illegal. Garrett and his Dad decided they wanted to make their own legal hemp product for pain relief. They knew a manufacturer and began getting samples. We’ve been on a roll talking about Summer things lately! We kicked it off by talking about Summer hospitality, then talked about making memories with your family during the summer and now we are talking about one of my favorite things: Natural summer essentials! Listen to the Podcast: We also recorded this blog post as an audio podcast. If you want to listen in instead of reading, click play below or do a combination of both  And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast in iTunes.  Right click here and save-as to download this episode to your computer. My Summer Essentials: Immune Boosters: Elderberry Syrup You can buy one or make your own. It's very simple to make your own. All you need it dried elderberries, honey, and some spices. See wellness mama recipe for how to make it yourself. Or get a pre-made one from Vitacost.com (just check all ingredients).  A Good Probiotic We love all the probiotics from Garden of Life and they have a ton of options - for kids, for adults, specifically for women, or men, etc. We have started using a different brand though for the kids that we found from Grove.co. It’s the Lovebug brand and we love it! They also have a couple of different strains - they have a cold one that’s targeted for immunity. They have a weight loss one, and they even have two infant ones for 0-6 months and 6-12 months. They even have a pregnancy specific one that looks great.  Immune Defense Essential Oils These are great for all around immunity defense! Our absolute favorites are the Plant Therapy KidSafe line of Immune Boom and Germ Destroyer. We use them topically and also for diffusing.  Goats Milk Soap with Essential Oils We also started trying a new soap. It’s a Goats Milk soap from Bend Soap Company. We got it in bar form and as a milk bath. You just add the shreds to the bath. It's called All Shield and it's basically like their immune defense essential oil blend in the soap!  Zarabees Another line we love is Zarabees. They have natural cold and immune support items for kids. You can find it at places like Target, but my favorite place is Grove because their price is much better.   New Chapter  For adults: Grove just started carrying New Chapter brand. It's a very natural and healthy supplement brand for adults and I've been a long time fan. They have multivitamins, prenatals, fermented turmeric, maca and so much more! I love this brand but it's an expensive one. So I was excited to see that Grove is carrying it now!  Choosing a Natural Sunscreen  Sunscreen is a big one and a hard one! SkinDeep.org has a fabulous Sunscreen guide that you can sign up for for free!! Their biggest ingredients to avoid are:  Oxybenzone Vitamin A (retinyl palmitate) Added insect repellent And to look for:  Zinc oxide Avobenzome Mexoryl SX My staple for the past several summers has been the Honest company spray. With 7 people in the family needing to get sunscreened, the spray has been a lifesaver! But we do go through it quickly and the nozel does tend to get clogged a LOT and we've been through too many bottles to think it's a mistake in one or two bottles.  Grove has several fantastic sunscreen options as well! They carry Badger brand which is very natural. Babyganics is also rated very well and they have a spray. I'm adding this one to my cart to try next! They also carry several kinds of Alba Botanicals. I'm actually very impressed with their natural sunscreen selection and I will be trying several new ones to see if I can find one that works better than Honest. Choosing a Natural Bug Spray  This can be another tough one to find! I have three suggestions for you:  You can make your own bug spray with an essential oil blend. The one I have is from Plant Therapy called Shield Me and it's a KidSafe blend. You can diffuse it outside, or mix into coconut oil to apply to skin.  If you want a candle,

Do you want these tips in a downloadable & printable PDF? Easy! Just get on my email list – you can use the Connect page or Take the Quiz at www.onairwithella.com   This bonus episode is about shutting down mindless eating and stopping cravings in their tracks. Most cravings only lasts between 5 and 20 minutes, so implement any of these tips and override that overeating autopilo (click to expand)   What to Consume Instead:  1. BCAAs – Branch Chain Amino Acids - read about how they work to reduce cravings by decreasing your appetite, keeping your blood sugar steady, and reducing cortsiol levels here, or you can really geek out here.   2. L-Glutamine (amino acid supplement) - Many people swear by this supplement as a cravings killer. I like it because it's good for my gut, too.  This blog does a good job of explaining the science and includes references to the data. 3. Soluble fiber – I like mixing acacia fiber in a glass of water (you can also add to a smoothie) - here's why. Note: don't overdo it or it will clog you up! 4. Cocoa - go for unsweetened cacao powder and make a hot chocolate (just mix with warmed almond milk) or a delicious, super simple dessert like avocado pudding or any of these suggestions inspired by the Paleo community.   BONUS: The team over at Metabolic Effect recently launched a new product called Craving Cocoa that combines a lot of these ingredients (BCAA, fiber and cacao) all in one great mix! Get it here. 5. Dark chocolate – I like 85% and higher, but make sure the cacao content is at least over 70%.  6. Fizzy water - I like seltzer/mineral water with lemon or lime added. Drink this first, then decide if you need the thing you were craving.  7. Replacement treats - sometimes these will work to shut down those cravings. Pay attention to what works for you: •   Decaf coffee (or tea) after a meal (note: the nutritional police are still debating this one, but it works for me) •   1 glass (or 1/2 glass) of red wine after a meal  •   Have whatever you're craving PLUS a healthy treat. For example, chocolate with an apple; half that cupcake and a pear, etc. •   Paleo desserts - as mentioned above, make something yummy without a load of sugar in it. Just google "Paleo desserts" or scroll through my Facebook page for ideas. There are so many super easy things you can make in 5 minutes that are utterly satisfying and don't sabotage your wellness goals.  What to DO instead: INTERRUPT THE PATTERN!  •   Brush your teeth and drink a tall glass of water •   Chew 100% Xylitol Gum or a super strong mint •   Get visual – keep a picture of you looking great or of something that makes you happy and reminds you of you at your best!   •   Get outside: breathe deeply (all the way down in your belly) and/or walk for 10-20 mins.   •   Do a 1-minute cardio blitz. For example, jump on a rebounder (mini-trampoline) or do 25 jumping jacks and 10 burpees right there in the kitchen - better yet, turn on some music and DANCE! •   Get naked. Or, just change clothes into something you love. Anything to be reminded of being in your body.  •   Or, just EAT IT, but don’t eat AROUND IT. For Pete's sake, it's just FOOD. Be the boss of it. Eat it, enjoy it and pat yourself on the back for not freaking out. Don't eat everything else in sight in order to avoid that thing you're craving. Stock Your Pantry: $10 PROMO CODE to Vitacost.com The links above will take you to Amazon, which has great prices, but for the supplements mentioned (e.g. BCAA and L-Glutamine), I prefer Vitacost.com for even better prices and selection.
