Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Morgan: Hi Dr Cabral! I'm wondering if there's anything we can do to strengthen or improve teeth enamel. I've noticed in the last few years that my teeth seem to be less thick/ more opaque. Is this a mineral issue? Thank you!     Marianne: Hello doctor Cabral, I'm tracking my cycle with an Oura ring and I experience a significant decrease in heart rate variability (HRV) accompanied by a notable rise in heart rate during my luteal phase. Is this a normal pattern? And if not, could you maybe let me know what could cause this? I'm a 46 year old female, very active, with a healthy weight and normal periods (27-30 days). Thanks so much for your answer. Best, Marianne     Lara: Hi, dr. C! Hope you, your family & Bacci are well.. I've listened to you explain what's in Metavolve and how it works, so my question is, would you recommend it also for people with estrogen dominance, high stress levels, unregulated sleep & poor metabolism (also fibromyalgia) but their main goal is not weight loss? Thank you, you're the best! Happy healing, everyone!     Maria: What does the research say about erythritol? Is it good or bad for you?     Rita: Dear Dr. Cabral Thank you so much for doing what you do with such passion and commitment!I've been struggling with pain for 3 years, and up till now, I thought I had a tooth problem, but after not finding anything after dental x rays, examinations, I had an MRT scan ( magnetic resonance tomography ) in May. In the last3years, at irregular intervals, sometime twice a month, sometimes only once in every3months, I had massive pain on the left side in my upper jaw area,in the gums+in 1 tooth+severe headache-only once it happened on the right side but the same pain:upper jaw, gums,1tooth,severe headache. MRT scan showed my right side maxillary sinus is full of phlegm/mucus? I would love to get some advice on how to remove the phlegm / mucus from there?Thank you so much in advance, best wishes,   Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right! - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/3131 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? Erythritol is a common sweetener used in baked goods, beverages, gum, and candy, and is often found in keto-friendly and other reduced-sugar products. However, recent research suggests that consuming even typical amounts of erythritol may elevate the risk of blood clots and cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes. Not to put myself on too high a pedestal, but I tend to think of this program as a public service (you're welcome).  And I'm sure many of you have been wondering, "is it possible to fully comprehend the plot twists and intricate character studies of 'The Equalizer 3' if I've not seen 'The Equalizer 2'?"  Well, i think that is a very fair question and it poses even more questions. For instance, presumably things were equalized at the conclusion of "The Equalizer", then thrown into a state of unequality following "The Equalizer 2".  Without giving away the twist ending, I'm here to assure you that with the resolution of "The Equalizer 3", once again, we have achieved EQUALITY.  And by we, I of course mean fictitious persons in a made-up world.  Here back on earth, the boot remains on the neck of those oppressed  and anyone daring to stand up for them will continue to be gas lit,, slurred or much, much worse.     Fun (?) fact : a ways back Denzel was top billed in a not so wonderful star vehicle called "Man On Fire", and no one questioned his or the filmmakers' mental health.  As though some of you assholes have ever cared about the mental health of anyone besides yourself.

My mom has type 2 diabetes  and is taking Metformin. I have convinced her to do at least 16 hours of fasting a day and she has been doing this for 5 months or so. She says her glucose levels are much more stable but her cholesterol has gone up. Should she worry? [09:21] 3. Once you have reached your fat-loss goal, how do you transition to a maintenance schedule without gaining back the weight? And what would a good fat-loss maintenance schedule be? [15:10]  4. I started fasting about a year and a half ago with a very mixed schedule and was successful in losing about 25 lbs in 8 months. Since then I've been at a plateau for another 8 months. I find it hard to not eat at least once per day. What are your thoughts on ADF with the 500 cal vs without the 500 cals? [17:35]  5. I don't think I've heard you discuss the sweetener erythritol. I realize that it may still not be great for sugar cravings, but does it affect insulin? If I had a small amount in my tea, would it break my fast? I've seen conflicting messages? Alternative Sweeteners: Monk Fruit, Stevia, Erythritol & Xylitol – Dr. Berg

Let's talk about alternative sweeteners. Trying alternative sweeteners when starting the ketogenic diet can make the transition much easier. Notice I said alternative sweeteners and not artificial sweeteners. While alternative sweeteners aren't completely natural, they are less artificial and less harmful than artificial sweeteners. Keto snacks and desserts often have different kinds of alternative or artificial sweeteners. Trying keto snacks and keto desserts isn't a bad thing, but it's crucial to check the ingredients. Just because it's labeled “keto” doesn't make it healthy. Out of all of the sweeteners, erythritol and xylitol* are two of the best. But it's still better to only consume small amounts. Monk fruit and stevia are also great options. However, with stevia, it's important to make sure that the product doesn't also contain maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is higher on the glycemic index than sugar. Maltitol, agave nectar, and functional fibers should also be avoided. Including too much of these sugar alcohols (even the good ones) in your diet can cause bloating, fluid retention, diarrhea, and can upset the gut microbiome. They may also prevent you from getting rid of cravings. I think sugar alternatives are great to help a person transition off of consuming sugar and for an occasional treat—but they shouldn't be consumed on a regular basis. *Pet owners should keep in mind that certain alternative sweeteners, like xylitol, can be highly toxic to animals. Sugar alternatives can be found in a wide range of products and may go by different names. It's best to keep these types of products far out of reach from your pets. Erythritol Linked to Heart Attacks and Strokes, Really?

A new study on erythritol and heart attacks has been in the news and found its way to social media—let's talk about it. This study correlates erythritol in your blood to higher incidents of heart attacks and strokes. However, I see some serious problems with this study. Here are four key points about this study: 1. Correlation does not mean causation. 2. This study was based on endogenous erythritol and did not measure dietary erythritol. The body makes endogenous erythritol. 3. The body produces erythritol when you metabolize sugar, have oxidative stress or belly fat, or consume alcohol. The great majority of people in this study were in poor health, so how do we know erythritol was the problem? 4. Other research has linked erythritol to many different health benefits. Could it be that erythritol is increasing in the body to counter the bad effects of sugar? It seems to me that erythritol is something that's trying to help you and not hurt you. As it stands today, chronic pain affects more Americans than DIABETES, HEART DISEASE, and CANCER combined.   In fact, chronic pain is THE NUMBER ONE reason Americans access the Healthcare system today. However, many people believe their only option for pain relief is found in drugstore options such as Ibuprofen, Advil, and Tylenol (to name a few). Tragically, most people are unaware that these pain meds do more HARM than good.    Common side effects include Headaches, Liver and Kidney issues, High Blood Pressure, and in rare cases – even death. Not to mention, they are just masking your pain... Giving you temporary relief...   While this may sound all doom and gloom, I do have good news... There is an all-natural solution that addresses the root cause of your discomfort... A REAL solution that allows you to get back to being YOU!   And that solution is called Curcumin Gold made by my friends at Purality Health. This analysis of the recent study by the Hazen group at Cleveland Clinic published in Nature Medicine claiming erythritol contributes to cardiovascular disease shows the following: Why elevated plasma erythritol is likely to reflect thiamin deficiency and NADPH depletion from insulin resistance, inflammation, and oxidative stress Why the in vitro and mouse study blood clotting likely reflects osmotic stress with no relevance to the use of erythritol as a sweetener. Why I strongly suspect the Hazen group is hiding data, specifically the data that they obviously had a chance to collect and would have clinched their case but appears nowhere in their paper. Why even though I do not use erythritol as a sweetener, were I ever to think about doing so, the new Nature Medicine paper would play no role in my decision. The Reversing Heart Disease Summit has an encore this week. If you missed any or all of it, register and listen now. It has been a smash hit, but there is one more chance to learn with Dr. Kahn, Dr. Fuhrman, and guests. Click Here To Register. This week at Heart Doc VIP, Dr. Kahn reports back from his Michigan office on great news about a cholesterol-lowering medicine called bempadoic acid, and on vegan vs. keto diets and their impact on the planet. The main focus is the new report suggesting that a non-nutritive sweetener called erythritol, which is made in the body but also used as an additive in many foods, may be related to heart disease and cause blood to clot. The amount of erythritol found in many keto-friendly foods meets or exceeds the amount used in healthy human volunteers, suggesting it may play a role in excessive clotting. There will be many more studies on this exciting new topic.
