Volkswagen gives the 2025 Taos a fresh look and updated tech. We share our first impressions of its performance, redesigned interior, and revamped infotainment system—and whether this update is enough to keep the Taos competitive. We also answer audience questions, including: When is it okay to buy a first model year redesign vehicle? Why are EV charging networks—aside from Tesla's Supercharger—so frustrating to use? And should buyers be concerned about the Hyundai Ioniq 5 due to issues with its Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU)? Overview The 2023 Volkswagen Taos rolls into its second model year. And maybe it's just us. Because we're paying close attention. But it feels like the subcompact five-seat crossover SUV has been around longer. Sporty and bold. Classy and sophisticated. Affordable and practical. These are all accurate descriptions of VW's smallest available SUV. ⇒ Check out Ontario VW Taos Inventory Subcompact 5-seat crossover SUV New For 2023 Volkswagen Taos Taos comes in three trims and each one of them gets more content for 2023. Coming standard across all trims is VW's front assist, blind spot monitor, and rear traffic alert. The S trim, the base model with 4Motion, gets 18-inch wheels. While the SE trim receives driver assistance tech standard - VW's IQ.Drive. And the top trimmed SEL gets a standard panoramic sunroof added. 2023 Volkswagen Taos Trims And Pricing We continue loving Volkswagen's straightforward trims and pricing. Sure you can still spec out your Taos how you like. But Volkswagen has a habit of thoughtfully adding features to each trim level. And in a logical fashion. 2023 VW Taos trims & starting MSRPs S $24,155 SE $28,925 SEL $34,535 Engines And Transmissions Keeping it easy and straightforward. Volkswagen plants the same power into each Taos. And with similar transmissions. It's a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. Putting out 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. For the transmissions, they're both smoothing shifting automatics. The front-wheel drive Taos gets an 8-speed automatic. And the all-wheel-drive gets a 7-speed auto. So that leaves you with the decision of FWD or AWD. And in the case of Volkswagen, AWD is called 4Motion. Fuel Economy Ratings Taos delivers the expected and respectable fuel economy for an internal combustion engine subcompact crossover SUV. With EPA ratings between 25 and 32 mpg. MPG Rating FWD 28/31/36 AWD 25/28/32 *City/combined/highway The curb weight for the 2023 Volkswagen Taos depends on your configuration. But it's coming in between 3,181 and 3,437 lbs. 158 hp/184 lb-ft torque 2023 Volkswagen Taos - What's It Look Like? Taos looks unmistakably like a European crossover SUV. And like the rest of the Volkswagen crossover sport-ute lineup, a quick glance can be deceiving. Because that can and does leave you thinking Audi. This is a nice compliment because that's Volkswagen's luxury sibling. And always costs an easy 30% more across all comparisons - minimum. With that said the 2023 Volkswagen Taos looks like a small Volkswagen crossover sport-ute. Because, like almost every carmaker these days, the SUVs they're making are small, medium, and large versions of one another. And in some cases, both extra small and extra large too. Exterior dimensions Wheelbase 105.9 to105.5 Track: front 61.8 to 61.9 rear 60.9 to 60.5 Length 175.8 Width 72.5 Height 65.4 to 65.1 Ground clearance 6.4 to 7.6 *All inches Inside The 2023 Volkswagen Taos Taos seats up to 5 passengers in its two rows of seating. And inside Taos is where Volkswagen's engineering is often most appreciated. Because that's when drivers and passengers are closest to it. And for the longest periods of time. So unlike gazing at the outside, we get to experience the inside to a much greater degree. And VW's fit and finish are remarkable. Even in the subcompact Taos. From the materials being used to the intersections of them, it's reliably solid. For example, even the inside of the center console of the Taos we test-drove had a smooth finish with quality materials. And that is attention to detail we love. Interior dimensions Headroom 40.7/39.8 Shoulder room 56.5/55.2 Legroom 40.1/37.9 *All inches front/rear Cargo volume for the 2023 VW Taos comes in at a highly respectable 27.9 cubic feet with the backseats up.

Volkswagen might have been lagging behind the rest of the market in the highly competitive crossover battle, but the company has fleshed out its portfolio to try to solve all of life's transportation problems. The latest gas-powered crossover to join VW's ranks is a compact crossover that effectively fills the void left by the departed Golf. Dubbed the VW Taos, this entry-level VW starts just shy of $25,000 and pits it in the middle of the compact-crossover battle. Powering this Taos is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that sends 158 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through either an eight-speed automatic transmission before hitting the front wheels or a seven-speed automatic if equipped with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. In a similar place, Genesis is also constantly expanding its crossover options to help sway buyers into the fold. While larger, and more expensive, than the Taos, the Genesis GV70 does a similar amount of heavy lifting for the team at Genesis. At least, the GV70 helpts to expand the Genesis lineup and give prospective buyers all the options that their heart, and the market, demands. Powering the Genesis GV70 is either a 2.5-liter turbocharged I4 or a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6. Both transmissions feed an eight-speed automatic that then transfers power to the standard all-wheel-drive system. On this bonus episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek boss Natalie Neff chats with Wesley Wren about her time in the Genesis GV70 and the Volkswagen Taos. The pair also talk about the growing demand for crossovers, the roles that both of these vehicles play for each respective company and more. #car #cars #vw #volkswagen #genesis #carreview

During this episode, I spend some quality time with the all new Volkswagen Taos SUV; a conversation about neighborhoods vs Interstate highways have some communities rethinking transportation; and Stellantis turns on the (electric) power in its quest to remain competitive in a quickly evolving marketplace. Is it too little, too late?
During this episode, I review the all new Volkswagen Taos compact crossover SUV. Named after a small community in New Mexico as homage to John Muir, a long time author of a funky VW Beetle repair manual that first debuted in the late 1960's, the Taos is the smallest SUV in the company's American vehicle line-up.
As reliable as a 20 year old Toyota, we have yet another fun episode of the Unnamed Automotive Podcast for you to listen to this week. First Benjamin jumps in and talks about the massive hole left in VW's lineup that is being replaced by the 2022 Volkswagen Taos subcompact crossover. While the old Golf was a compact-car favorite, VW felt that Americans just didn't deserve it anymore, so here comes the spacious and efficient Taos. Benjamin ponders the new motor, the ride and the pricing, and explains what was going on at VW behind the scenes to produce in this vehicle (and whether there's any reason to check one out). Then the duo rip through some of the hot news in the automotive industry. Specifically, there's super-sad information about the next generation Subaru WRX STI, and all the juicy details about the new Acura Integra. Finally, Benjamin takes Sami for a spin with his version of This-or-That, called That-or-This. Listen through, and don't forget to send us your thoughts on the episode through social media or our website www.unnamedautomotivepodcast.com

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is an all-new 7-passenger version of the storied SUV that has helped the Jeep brand achieve its unprecedented success. For our interview about the vehicle, host Jack Nerad traveled to Detroit for an early drive of the vehicle. There he spoke with vehicle line engineering head Tom Seel. In the dialogue, Seel reveals the innovative design and engineering that went into creating the all-new three-row Grand Cherokee L while retaining its Jeep-specific off-road abilities. Host Jack Nerad just test-drove the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L in Michigan and discussed the drive with vehicle line engineer Tom Seel. The momentum continues to build for electric vehicles with General Motors expanding its multi-billion-dollar investment in EV and autonomous vehicle technology. But as guest co-host Geno Effler, who is J.D. Power director of corporate communications, noted, a high percentage of American consumers are still skeptical about the prospect of buying an EV for themselves. One of the biggest obstacles, Effler says, is electric vehicle pricing. Most often EVs command large premiums over similar-sized conventional vehicles with the same capabilities. The hills above the Malibu, California, coast were the perfect place to test drive the all-new 2022 Volkswagen Taos small SUV. In the road test segment, host Jack Nerad details the intricacies of the 2022 Volkswagen Taos, the European brand's all-new subcompact crossover SUV. Though by some measures the Taos is small, it is big in the amount of technology it brings to the party. One example: properly equipped and in the right circumstances it can drive itself…as long as its driver continues to pay close attention to the process. J.D. Power's Effler will give his perspective on the subcompact SUV market and insight into the continued escalation in new-vehicle prices that shows no sign of abating. Do you have a car in your driveway that you don't use much? You might want to think about selling it because, as we note in the news segment, the used-car market is so hot that a little-used car might give you a financial windfall. Will new electric vehicles like Lucid Motors, Rivian, Canoo, and Lordstown Motors be able to find a market and be successful? Host Jack Nerad and guest host Geno Effler discuss that as well during their wide-ranging dialogue on the future of the industry also in the news.

The world of compact cars and hatchbacks is, ironically, shrinking. The once robust segment is seeing storied nameplates fall to the wayside every new year. Volkswagen added some fuel to that fire with its latest-generation Golf model's departure from the US Market. When you look at the declining demand for compact cars and hatchbacks in the U.S., it makes sense. Filling the Golf's void, VW looked saw a perfect place to meet customer demands: small crossovers. The Volkswagen Taos is both a literal and spiritual successor to the Golf's place in the United States. While literal might be a stretch because of its high-riding seating, the Taos is replacing the Golf's place in Volkswagen's Puebla, Mexico factory. Spiritually? It's following the changing tides of consumer trends. Powering the VW Taos is a 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 making 158 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. On this episode of Quick Spin, Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the latest Volkswagen product and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you through the features of the 2022 Volkswagen Taos while he walks you around the new machine. He also takes you along for the drive review. Between those segments, Wren talks with Patrick Carone and expands on his thoughts. Closing the show, the pair talk about what makes the Taos special.
