Why it is acceptable for Israel to have nuclear capabilities?

Afternoon Drive with John Maytham

Mike Wills is joined by Idan Ronen, an Israeli journalist and Middle East researcher based in Netanya, who helps us explore the reasoning behind Israel’s nuclear posture and why it continues to enjoy quiet tolerance from global powers. While not officially confirmed, Israel’s nuclear arsenal is widely accepted as fact — maintained under a policy of "strategic ambiguity." Presenter John Maytham is an actor and author-turned-talk radio veteran and seasoned journalist. His show serves a round-up of local and international news coupled with the latest in business, sport, traffic and weather. The host’s eclectic interests mean the program often surprises the audience with intriguing book reviews and inspiring interviews profiling artists. A daily highlight is Rapid Fire, just after 5:30pm. CapeTalk fans call in, to stump the presenter with their general knowledge questions. Another firm favourite is the humorous Thursday crossing with award-winning journalist Rebecca Davis, called “Plan B”. Thank you for listening to a podcast from Afternoon Drive with John Maytham Listen live on Primedia+ weekdays from 15:00 and 18:00 (SA Time) to Afternoon Drive with John Maytham broadcast on CapeTalk https://buff.ly/NnFM3Nk For more from the show go to https://buff.ly/BSFy4Cn or find all the catch-up podcasts here https://buff.ly/n8nWt4x Subscribe to the CapeTalk Daily and Weekly Newsletters https://buff.ly/sbvVZD5Follow us on social media:CapeTalk on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CapeTalkCapeTalk on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@capetalkCapeTalk on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/CapeTalk on X: https://x.com/CapeTalkCapeTalk on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@CapeTalk567See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ghost Wasn't Created To Be A Billion-Dollar Brand. That's Why It Is One.

When Ghost co-founders Dan Lourenco and Ryan Hughes launched their fitness and lifestyle brand in 2016, they weren't chasing headlines or quick exits. They were trying to build a company that felt like a movement.  From the outset, Ghost resonated with a younger, influencer-savvy audience drawn to its bold, candy- and snack-inspired fitness supplements – flavors like Warhead and Sour Patch Kids brought a nostalgic twist to recovery powders and wellness products. Building on this momentum, the brand expanded into energy and hydration beverages, achieving broad distribution across major U.S. and international retailers while cultivating a strong direct-to-consumer presence. In a significant endorsement of its growth and potential, Keurig Dr Pepper acquired a 60% stake in the company for $990 million in October, with plans to purchase the remaining 40% by 2028. So how did a company that deliberately avoided a traditional marketing playbook become a household name in sports nutrition and energy? In a candid conversation, Dan pulls back the curtain on Ghost's rise — from behind-the-scenes YouTube videos to blockbuster licensing deals and national shelf space. He explains why authenticity remains the brand's North Star — and why, for Ghost, that goes beyond simply being founder-led. Dan also reflects on the personal journey behind the business: how stepping away from social media helped him regain focus, and what scaling a brand taught him about leadership, growth, and staying grounded. Show notes: 0:25: Dan Lourenco, Co-Founder & CEO, Ghost – Dan talks about Ghost's mission to become a “100-year brand” built on authenticity, innovation, and community, and how, despite selling a majority stake to Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP), Ghost has retained its founder-led identity. He also discusses why the brand's growth has been rooted in transparency rather than traditional marketing, how differentiation lies in purposeful innovation, and why the company approaches licensing more selectively than in the past. Dan explains how Ghost's expansion into functional beverages was driven by organic customer behavior, and why he emphasizes staying nimble, preserving brand values, and maintaining a startup mindset. He also reflects on the challenges of founder wellness, learning to balance personal fulfillment with leadership, stepping back from personal social media and how he advises entrepreneurs to focus on what truly matters. He's since become the de facto beat reporter for the world's oceans — and his investigations reveal the shocking prevalence of forced labour, mind-boggling overfishing, and the hard truth is that it's all connected to the cheap seafood we love.If you have the stomach for the kind of viscerally tough reporting we do on Hunting Warhead, we know you'll appreciate The Outlaw Ocean — another show that sheds light on the darkest corners of the world, and goes where others won't.Find and follow The Outlaw Ocean (S2) here: https://link.mgln.ai/oo-hw

Almost all the landmark treaties of the Cold War and post-Cold War period restricting the U.S. and Russian arsenals are no longer in effect, having been abrogated or abandoned. China is arming. Other states may be interested in joining the nuclear club, despite the strictures of the non-proliferation treaty of 1968. Send Steve a Text MessageHey there, Steve Stine here. In this episode of my guitar podcast, I wanted to share with you my approach to learning challenging guitar solos, using the example of "Warheads" by Extreme. As a guitarist, I know how frustrating it can be to tackle a difficult solo, especially when you're trying to stay true to the original while still making it your own.Throughout this episode, I break down my process for learning solos, from the initial listening stage to figuring out the notes and adapting the techniques to suit my own playing style. I emphasize the importance of finding a way to execute the solo that feels comfortable and natural to you, rather than trying to copy the original artist note-for-note.Using specific examples from the "Warheads" solo, I demonstrate how I modified certain licks and phrases to better fit my own playing, while still maintaining the essence of the original. I also discuss the realities of playing live and how that can influence the way you choose to play a solo.My goal with this episode is to encourage you to approach learning solos in a way that works for you, and to remind you that it's okay to make modifications and adaptations to suit your own style. Remember, you're not trying to be someone else – you're always going to be you, and that's what makes your playing unique. Links: Steve's Channel → https://www.youtube.com/user/stinemus... It was the biggest gold discovery in history...until it wasn't. In 1995, Canadian mining company Bre-X announced to the world it had found a significant amount of gold deep in the jungles of Indonesia. Stock prices soared as investors worldwide fought to stake their claim. But when Bre-X's chief geologist mysteriously fell from a helicopter over the jungle, the story of the billion dollar discovery began to unravel. Nearly three decades later, no one has ever been held accountable. In the new podcast, The Six Billion Dollar Gold Scam, host Suzanne Wilton takes you from the jungles of Indonesia to small town Alberta, Canada, to investigate what really happened and find out more about the man behind the biggest goldmine fraud of all time. Produced for the BBC World Service and CBC by BBC Scotland Productions. More episodes are available at: https://link.chtbl.com/noD9tHcz
