William Seymour had a way of going about “Church" that was completely unique in his time. In the early 1900s, the very segregated church kept to themselves. Through his understanding of the Holy Spirit, William created a church movement that still lives on to this day. What was his understanding? That the church dwells in the people of Christ and not in buildings. In Pastor Stephen's sermon we dive into the idea of an embodied church, living faithfully as God's church in our day-to-day lives.

WHAT LABEL DO YOU LIVE UNDER?   What's wrong with this picture? The Protestant Reformation happened around 1500 years ago. It was a separation from the Catholic Church based on Martin Luther's revelation that the "just shall live by faith" and not by the rule of a church or under the control of a pope. Today, 30,000+ different labels of groups of people are trying to express what a Protestant is.  That's a lot of heavy bondage on the body of Christ. Unfortunately, human nature was still in control, and it wasn't long until the protestants wanted to kill the suspected heretics just like the Catholics had done. It was the same Spirit that Jesus contented with when the disciples came to him in Mark 9:38 and complained that someone outside their camp was casting out devils. They're anxious question to Jesus was we've got to do something about that. Jesus had quite a simple rule about unity. He answered them and said well, fellas, if they're not against us, they must be for us, so leave them alone. In 1906, there was an outbreak of the Holy Spirit in Los Angeles, California, on Azusa Street. A black man named William Seymour received the Holy Spirit while he listened to reports of it in a Bible school in Texas.  Coming to Los Angeles, the Spirit of God fell on them, and a prayer meeting in their home, eventually moving into an old Mission on Azusa Street. It was like the shot that was heard around the world. The outpouring of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, with speaking in tongues and all the gifts of the Spirit that were manifested, literally went around the world from that humble mission house. Unfortunately, human nature took over again, and the first separation happened in the Pentecostal movement when the black brothers and sisters were shoved aside. They started a fellowship called the church of God in Christ. From that point in time, it seemed that labels began to be important to the Spirit-filled folks. What started with one outpouring to describe Pentecostalism has splintered into literally hundreds, if not more, of labels that people live under. At some point, if we're going to see the kingdom of God advance, we must have one label: Jesus Christ and him alone. True fellowship is with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Everything else is secondary.   YOU CAN GIVE HERE: http://www.georgewatkinsministries.co...   WEBSITE= http://www.georgewatkinsministries.co...   FACEBOOK=https://www.facebook.com/FaithProduce...   Faith Producers address: PO Bx 1006 Mt Vernon, WA 98273   FAITH PRODUCES AN INTERNATIONAL PODCAST https://faithproducers.podbean.com/   You can 'WALK' with George Watkins daily @ youtube.com/faithproducers  faithproducers.com  twitter.com/faithproducers  Facebook.com/faithproducerstv   faithproducers.com

Pastor Damaris Solis brings this week's message, “Not Enough." William Seymour of the Azusa Street Revival Key Verses: Genesis 26:1-6, 14-19 NLT “A severe famine now struck the land, as had happened before in Abraham's time. So Isaac moved to Gerar, where Abimelech, king of the Philistines, lived. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt, but do as I tell you. Live here as a foreigner in this land, and I will be with you and bless you. I hereby confirm that I will give all these lands to you and your descendants, just as I solemnly promised Abraham, your father. I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed. I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions.” So Isaac stayed in Gerar. He acquired so many flocks of sheep and goats, herds of cattle, and servants that the Philistines became jealous of him. So the Philistines filled up all of Isaac's wells with dirt. These were the wells that had been dug by the servants of his father, Abraham. Finally, Abimelech ordered Isaac to leave the country. “Go somewhere else,” he said, “for you have become too powerful for us.” So Isaac moved away to the Gerar Valley, where he set up their tents and settled down. He reopened the wells his father had dug, which the Philistines had filled in after Abraham's death. Isaac also restored the names Abraham had given them. Isaac's servants also dug in the Gerar Valley and discovered a well of fresh water.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” Sermon Topics: Pride,

Good News Church – Yukon, OK

I came across this book that a friend of mine recommended to me named "Fifty Pentecostal and Charismatic Leaders." I like the book so much that I ended up calling the author not long ago and speaking to him at length about the book. The book mentions many leaders you are likely to have heard of: Smith Wigglesworth, William Seymour, and Aimee Semple McPherson. Among these people is mentioned an individual originally from Great Britain named Donald Gee. The description given to Lake is particularly interesting: "The Apostle of Balance." At a time when there was so much hysteria in the Pentecostal community, Donald Gee was a steady voice that brought balance to an emerging movement. I believe that this principle of balance is a crucial one to realize for our personal lives and our walks of faith. The ultimate balance can be achieved by keeping our eyes on Jesus.

This Podcast is a Ministry of Good Samaritan Anglican Church in Buford, Georgiagoodsamaritanbuford.comHostsDavid Wickenden - Fr. Dan Shoemake What does it mean to be Charismatic/Pentecostal?Charismatic Christians emphasize the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the use of Spiritual Gifts and miracles as a normative expression of the truth of the Gospels. Furthermore charismatics affirm and exercise the working of miracles and spiritual gifts in the current Church as a regular demonstration of the Chrstian life. The distinctive beliefs of Charismatics and Pentecostals are:Miracles and signs of God's supernatural intervention are currently occurring in the Church today. The active operation of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. An event subsequent to salvation called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, in which the Spirit empowers the Christian for the work of the Church.DEFINITIONSFirst: When using the word charismatic in this context - I am not referring to people with strong personalities. Charismatic - Greek word - Charis (Favor or Gift)Refers to the gifts of the Holy Spirit described in Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12 & 14. So Charismatic Christians are those who operate under the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We will talk further about what exactly those are in our next episode when we break down the scriptural merit for the Charismatic movement. Pentecostalism - Greek Pente-coste (50th) = Festival of Weeks - in Hebrew, Shavuot  (Deuteronomy 16:10 & Exodus 34:22) which occurs 50 days after the Festival of Passover. This particular label refers to the event in Acts chapter 2, when the disciples were gathered together in the upper room 50 days after the Resurrection of Jesus and tongues of fire fell upon each of them, and they began to speak in tongues. Baptism in the Holy Spirit -  Refers to a phrase spoken by John the Baptist (Matt 3:11, & Lk 3:16) and the risen Christ in Acts 1:5 “you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” This refers to an event where a Christian is empowered with the Holy Spirit - the distinctive Pentecostal belief is that the initial physical evidence of this indwelling is speaking in tongues - much like the events in Acts 2:3. 10:46, 19:6.Distinction between Charismatic and PentecostalI'll be using the terms interchangeably. The movement that began the global revival in the 20th century is commonly called Pentecostalism. Later revivalist movements have identified themselves using the distinction “Charismatic.” In a broad sense the difference between these two movements is about some disagreements about the concept of Baptism in the Holy Spirit. The Beginnings of Modern PentecostalismAlthough there have been various examples of charismatic and mystics like Hildegard of Bingen, St. Theresa of Avila, and others, the modern conception of tongues has its historical roots in Azuza, California. A one eyed black preacher man named William Seymour began a small mission that became the catalyst for the movement. This led to a transformation in protestant and Catholic experiences of the Holy Spirit. The Prevalence of the Pentecostal MovementThe Pentecostal and Charismatic movement has completely overtaken the globe. Today it is most prevalent within the charismatic Catholic movement - but has also had an effect on evangelical, and mainline protestant movements. The historic black Church has also widely practiced charismatic worship.

Click here to download this podcast Israel was in a kairous moment. It was the time appointed by Heavenly Father. It was a fitting and the specific time God had appointed for their visitation. Yet, they failed to grasp the opportunity set before them. Indeed, most seemed completely blind to what was happening. They continued to run their shops, curse the government, meet their buddies at the bar, bet on the games, and take care of their families. History has proven that mankind has often missed God's visitations. He is visiting us again. Will you miss God's visitation? The religious and political leaders continued their game of politics; pushing and shoving for a better position and a bigger slice of the pie. Serious threats were straining the tenuous relationship with the Roman Prefect because of the zealots; particularly the zealot out of Galilee. He was a Nazarene portraying himself to be a prophet of God. The very thought was offensive! But large crowds were following him and he seemed to be persuading them with his new doctrine and his stunning ability to make them think miracles were happening. They seemed oblivious that the man standing before them, teaching on the temple steps and on the mountainside was the same one who had astounded them when He was twelve years of age. His grasp of Scripture and His ability to open the understanding of the common man, combined with the authority of His spirit and word, astonished the crowds but angered the spiritual leaders and the politicians. They had no idea this man was not the ordinary zealot or self-proclaimed prophet. He was God in the flesh. Even more curious was the inability of the Pharisees, Sadducees and priests to grasp the moment and to know the true identity of the man with the level of knowledge they possessed about the promise of Messiah and His coming. How is it possible for them to miss the timing and fail to see the Son of God when He stood in their very presence? The answer to that conundrum is the great danger being faced at this very moment by the church in the United States of America. The Pharisees, Sadducees, lawyers and priests of Jesus’s day were blinded by their preconceived notions, messianic charts, and political rhetoric. Their spiritual senses had been dulled by their secret sins, their form of godliness with a calloused spirit, their personal ambition, and their spiritual snobbery. The general populace was too busy trying to survive. They loved seeing the miracles and hearing the messages of hope spoken by this new prophet. It was great fun talking in the market place about his criticism of the Pharisees and Sadducees and their hypocrisy. But who had time to take seriously his call to lay down your life and follow him? It was the very few religious leaders, like Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea, who dared humble themselves and truly grasp the moment. Although thousands ate His miracle meals and saw the blind eyes open and the dead raised to life only one hundred and twenty faithfully waited in prayer for the “promise of the Father.” I wonder how many in America today will get past the political rhetoric and hear the voice of the Holy Spirit? I wonder how many pastors, professors and denominational leaders will turn off the “talking heads” and silence the news anchors to hear what God speaking? How many Christians will turn away from the riot scenes on their television and stop listening to the anger of their family members, co-workers and neighbors and let God show them what He is doing in America right now? It is not about Democrat or Republican. It is not about the haves and the have nots. It is not about the popular vote and the Electoral College. As significant as those things are… and they do hold significance, their great importance will only be realized if we can see how God is working at this critical juncture of American history. Three of the most politically charged times in modern U.S. history were seasons God was doing something far greater. The Crisis Point Of the Modern American Church The turn of the century was politically charged with progressivism, woman suffrage and racial inequality. God was about to address all of these social ills and political issues by pouring out His Holy Spirit. It all began in 1896 at the Schearer Schoolhouse near Camp Creek in Cherokee County, North Carolina. A congregation, led by a holiness preacher began to experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in other tongues. This stunning work of God was also ignited on the west coast of the United States ten years later in Los Angeles, California. A humble African-American preacher, William Seymour, began holding meetings teaching the biblical experience of receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues. The crowds grew until private homes could no longer hold them. They rented an abandoned building on Azuza Street that was only 2400 square feet in size. God was seeking to resolve the racial issues of America by the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Blacks, whites, Hispanics all came to hear this former slave preach the Word of God and to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Pentecostal movement swept across America like a great tidal wave. America and the world were healing from the wounds of World War II in the late 1940’s when God stepped in with a miraculous healing ministry and a fresh out pouring of His Holy Spirit. Jack Coe, a tent evangelist who began preaching while he was still serving in the army during World War II. Oral Roberts with his “Canvas Cathedral” that would seat three thousand and more. Gordon Lindsay, T. L. Osborn, and others began crossing the United States with their tent meetings and faith healing. While controversy surrounded their work, America was experiencing spiritual healing by a fresh out pour of the Holy Spirit and truly amazing physical healings. Dr. Billy Graham was invited to Los Angeles, California in September 1949. A large tent that seated six thousand people was set up in a parking lot. It was later enlarged to seat nine thousand. As the crowds grew and overflowed the tent the three week meeting was extended. Thousands came to Christ including several celebrates. This was the national-wide launching of the Billy Graham crusades. God was healing what man and politics could not heal. The 1960’s saw America was being torn and divided. The ravages of an “unpopular war”, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, college “sit ins”, Haight Ashbury love in, hippies, flower children, LSD, the killing of Bobby Kennedy, and the Watts riots shook our nation. Into this cauldron of anger, hate, free sex, and “turning on and dropping out”, the Jesus People and the Charismatic Renewal came transforming lives. Thousands of teenagers and college students were delivered from drugs and immoral lifestyles as they came to Christ on the beaches of California, in coffee houses of the Pacific Northwest, on the college campus in Berkley, and in home Bible studies. Businessmen and business women were finding salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit through Full Gospel Businessmen and Women’s Aglow.0 The Episcopal and Catholic churches were coming alive through Sunday night charismatic renewal Bible studies and hundreds of lukewarm Pentecostal churches experienced a fresh out pouring of the Holy Spirit. God was doing what the social engineering of the “Great Society” could not. America has reached another crisis point. Progressivism and the New World Order are seeking to change culture with political correctness and tolerance, demanding the Christian church embrace women’s rights, same-sex marriage and the LGBT agenda. Our cities are being divided blue and red, minorities are feeling disenfranchised, and our first responders are serving at great risk. As the world hurdles headlong into the last days with Lucifer setting up his one-world agenda many in the church are moving apostate participating in same-sex marriages, welcoming transgender members, and preaching a compromised Gospel. God has His agenda. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call (Joel 2:28-32 KJV). Can you hear the voice of God calling His church to a new outpouring of His Spirit? While the culture grows dark with evil and the streets are filled with looters and angry voices; while men and women burn with lustful passions and every thought of their imagination is only evil, God’s eyes are searching across the nation looking for the righteous ones through whom He can show Himself mighty. America is not lost, not yet. This is the hour of our visitation. The greatest spiritual awakening of this generation, maybe the greatest in all of history, is before us right now. God desires to pour out His Spirit on our nation one more time, healing our damaged emotions; bring peace to the war zones of our inner cities; uniting the blacks, whites, Hispanics and Asians in the divine love that can only come from Holy Spirit. This is day of our visitation. The question remains. Will we seize the moment or will we be like the Pharisees and Sadducees? Many scholars are realizing today that some major parts of contemporary church history are missing, obscuring the truth about those who God majorly used in crucial roles. For example, William Seymour, who God used to birth the Pentecostal-Asuza Street revival is just now—almost a century later—being fully recognized for the important role he played in that movement. Likewise, Lonnie Frisbee, “the Hippie Evangelist” who God used dramatically not only in the Jesus People Revival but in the birth of two of the most significant evangelical movements of our day, is slowly starting to receive recognition—roughly a quarter century later—for the major role he played. Magazines like Christian History and Charisma, as well as scholar David Di Sabatini in a recent work, are slowly unfolding the seminal role he played. An overview of his story and role in the birth of the Calvary Chapel and Vineyard Movements is retold in these recordings.

Pentecostalism began on the American frontier, and it has become one of the largest expressions of global Christianity. In less than a century, it has grown to hundreds of millions of adherents. Today, Pentecostalism is pan-denominational. There are charismatic Catholics and Lutherans, unaffiliated Pentecostal communities, and established Pentecostal traditions, most prominently the Assemblies of God. Host Krista Tippett speaks with a theologian about the rise of Pentecostal worship among African-Americans in every denomination and a sociologist on her study of modern day Pentecostals — whom she sees as mystics among us.
