Send us a Text Message.

There was a smell in the apartment - disgusting, noxious, body odour. Azora had never smelled such revolting body odour. It's speculated that this was the smell of Noritta Samsudin's killer. Later that night, Noritta would be found dead. A pillowcase covered her head. Underneath, a bolster case wrapped around her face, tied behind her head. A towel was found stuffed in her mouth. Her hands and legs had been bound with electrical cords and bras. Could it have been one of Noritta's alleged boyfriends, one of which was a a married man with children. Or perhaps a stranger - an unknown killer running wild...? Check out my website: https://abriefcasepodcast.com/ Be my friend on Instagram: @abriefcasepodcast
I had a startling realization today: the tradition of Earth Month is actually not that much older than I am. According to the Smithsonian Magazine, Earth Month's roots (pun intended) come from an environmental crisis. In 1969, a major oil spill along the Santa Barbara coastline led to roughly 3 million gallons of oil spreading across 35 miles. It's hard to properly communicate the magnitude of this environmental disaster. But to those who saw it, they knew instantly it was a life-changing moment. In fact, in January 1970, The New York Times' environment correspondent called it the “ecological ‘shot heard round the world.'”In the spring of 1970, Gaylord Nelson, a politician from Wisconsin, came up with “Earth Day,” as it'd later be called, as a national day of learning. Strategically set in April, around spring break and finals, Earth Day relied heavily on students and youth to lead the movement (so yes, Greta Thunberg has predecessors). Facing political pressure from the rise of environmental activism, President Richard Nixon founded the Environmental Protection Agency at the end of 1970. The Clean Water Act passed a couple of years later, and by the end of the decade, media coverage about environmental issues had quadrupled. There's obviously a lot more. But in the interest of time, I'll stop my history lesson there in order to focus on today. Climate change is one of the major ongoing traumatic events facing our population. Global warming is leading to catastrophic storms. Deforestation is forcing animals and insects out of their natural habitats and leading to a loss of biodiversity. An overreliance on fossil fuels is increasing air pollution, which in turn increases our risk of respiratory diseases. It's a lot, to say the least. And to be honest, I feel a little daunted taking on this topic. Let's make this clear, I'm far from an expert on environmental policies and I am not a model of sustainability. But that's exactly why I'm so excited to welcome the guest you'll hear from today - Azora Zoe Paknad, the founder of Goldune. Goldune is a curated online marketplace that focuses on sustainable, eco-friendly brands that make sustainability less beige. One of their core tenets is that sustainability is a spectrum, and we can't let the shame of wondering if we're doing the right thing stop us from doing the best choice in the moment. In this episode, you'll hear Azora Zoe share how Goldune helps consumers make a better choice when shopping. She also reveals what standards they look for when vetting products for the site, and her perspective on “greenwashing” (don't worry, we'll define it if you don't know what it is). We end with a fun little round-up of Azora Zoe's favorite health and wellness adjacent products on Goldune. So, make sure you have their website pulled up so you're ready to browse. More about Azora Zoe PaknadAfter a multi-role tenure at Food52 working in all things home, kitchen and food, Azora Zoe founded Goldune in late 2020.

What's it all about? I was delighted when the Fifth Wall people reached out about the podcast. For some time I've wanted to address areas of the climate challenge, and areas of technology that are hugely important, but don't often get much press or attention, including on this podcast. In particular the Built Environment is of enormous importance to us all on many levels, it is of course where we live and work, and because of that impacts not just our immediate lives, but as you will hear, contributes far more to carbon emissions than transport, which gets most coverage at present. Greg has a great background, including reporting directly to Elon Musk at the Boring Company and Neuralink. Take a listen. About Greg Smithies: Greg is a Partner at Fifth Wall, where he co-leads the Climate Technology Investment team. Prior to joining Fifth Wall, Greg was a Partner at BMW i Ventures where he led the Sustainability investing practice, investing in companies such as Prometheus Fuels, and PureCycle (NASDAQ: ROCH). Before joining BMW i Ventures, Greg led Finance & Operations for both The Boring Company and Neuralink simultaneously. Greg started his investment career at Battery Ventures where he covered early-stage enterprise technology startups, as well as industrial technology buyouts. Successful exits from his work there include Nutanix (NASDAQ: NTNX), AppDynamics (acquired by Cisco Systems, Inc.), and IST (acquired by Scott Brand). Greg was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and currently lives in Oakland, CA. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School where he received a BS in Economics and a BS in Computer Science. About Fifth Wall: Founded in 2016 and based in Los Angeles, California, Fifth Wall, a Certified B Corporation, is the largest venture capital firm focused on technology-driven innovation for the global real estate industry. With approximately $2.5 billion in commitments and capital under management, Fifth Wall connects many of the world's largest owners and operators of real estate with the entrepreneurs who are redefining the future of the Built World. Fifth Wall is backed by a global mix of more than 70+ investors from 15 countries, including Acadia Realty Trust, Azora, BNP Paribas Real Estate, British Land, CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield, D.R. With backgrounds in the food + fashion industries, Atelier Saucier co-founders (and best friends) Nikki and Staci set out to combine their varied experiences and shared passion for hosting; and introduce a fresh, elevated perspective to all things table linens. Atelier Saucier is a modern tablescape design house for sustainable + customizable linens. Their brand ethos is to be eco. The planet is their priority. All of their linens are sustainably-sourced, rescued, repurposed and locally made in Downtown Los Angeles. They hand-pick surplus, premium fabrics so that no two styles of ‘kins are alike. Their small batch production process ensures no excess inventory or waste. ATELIER SAUCIER is where entertaining, dining and design intersect. This episode is part of our four-part series all about sustainable design, curated and hosted by Azora Zoe Paknad of Goldune. On this new FUTURE OF WOMEN Podcast series, Azora speaks with designers, journalists, and agroforestry entrepreneurs about sourcing products and developing supply chains in a way that respects the environment and communities that create them. NIKKI REED Never interested in playing dolls or dress up, rather looking to play “restaurant”, Nikki knew from a very young age that hospitality + business were in her future. After graduating from Cornell University's Hotel Administration School, she worked with Starwood Hotels and the Gramercy Park Hotel, parlaying that into a 7 year stint at the Hillstone Restaurant Group managing their restaurant operations in NYC, LA and AZ. With a successful hospitality career under her belt, Nikki joined New School, a progressive restaurant consulting firm and built a bench of high-profile clients. Sensing an industry need for elevated entertaining accoutrements and bespoke tablescapes, Nikki channeled her experience into building a brand of her own and thus, ATELIER SAUCIER was born. STACI INSPEKTOR Arts + crafts were Staci's passions as a child, so when her grandmother bought her a Husqvarna sewing machine at age 9, it was a harbinger of designs to come. Staci graduated from UC Davis Fashion Design School and quickly made a name for herself working with patternmakers and designing womenswear, swimwear + footwear for an LA-based fashion house. She gained first-hand experience in sourcing and production of materials and soon her love of design seamlessly transitioned her career in the direction of interiors and decor. Eager to blend her love of textiles with well-appointed home accessories, she co-founded ATELIER SAUCIER with the intention of creating meaningful and modern tabletop designs.
Azora Zoe Paknad's goal is to get millions of people around the world excited about sustainability. Goldune is an ecommerce retailer offering sustainable products for home, life, and your medicine cabinet, with an emphasis on supporting women and BIPOC-owned brands. We're thrilled to announce our next FUTURE OF WOMEN Podcast series, a four-part series all about sustainable design, curated and hosted by Azora Zoe Paknad of Goldune. On this new FUTURE OF WOMEN Podcast series, Azora speaks with designers, journalists, and agroforestry entrepreneurs about sourcing products and developing supply chains in a way that respects the environment and communities that create them. Today, Azora is speaking with Esha Chhabra and Smita Satiani. In 2019, Esha and Smita founded Alaya Tea. Alaya Tea sources organic and biodynamic teas directly from people and planet-friendly Indian farms at the base of the Himalayas. After growing up drinking chai and traversing this mountainous area in India's Northeast, visiting small farmers and tea estates, Esha and Smita were keen to build a company that respects these communities and addresses environmental challenges we face through agriculture. Alaya's packaging is fully compostable, including the label. Esha Chhabra is a writer who covers the environment, business, and agriculture. She has contributed to The Guardian, New York Times, Economist, and Forbes. She has been awarded multiple grants from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting as well as two reporting fellowships from the UN Foundation. For the past three years, she developed a book which looks at 30+ businesses around the world making a social and environmental impact with Patagonia. In 2019 she founded Alaya Tea with Smita Satiani. Smita Satiani is an Indian-Pakistani American entrepreneur. Over the last 10 years, she has worked in the social impact and climate change spaces across philanthropy, government and private industry. In 2019, she co-founded Alaya Tea to bring the Indian tea time she grew up with to a broader American audience, in a more people and planet-friendly way. Her work has been featured at the MIT Media Lab, and in Forbes, Washington Post & The Wall Street Journal. She is currently an adjunct instructor at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz Policy School.

Voltaire.

The antidote administered by Dr Zarkov restored flash Gordon’s memory. Then the Doctor and Dale Arden told Flash what had happened while he was under the spell of the wicked Queen Azura. Zarkov persuaded him that he must take over the Blue Magic Land just as he had taken over the other kingdoms so Flash went in to see Azura who under the spell of her own forgetfulness failed to recognize him. Azura accepted Flash’s claim that he was King and at his request ordered the entire army of the Blue Magic Land to pass in review before him. While the review was in progress General Tal leaps to the balcony upon which Flash, Dale, Zarkov and Azura were standing and attempted to plunge his sword in to Flash’s back. The story continues…
