On this week's show, Dana and Steve are joined by guest host Isaac Butler to talk truth, justice, and the American way via James Gunn's Superman. They discuss the latest incarnation of the man of steel and the cultural discourse he's generating that has become as volatile as kryptonite itself. Next, they hop to another cultural lightning rod: Lena Dunham. They get into her new series Too Much which she created with her husband Luis Felber. Finally, they report back from Viola's Room, an immersive theater experience by the creators of Sleep No More. In a bonus Slate Plus episode, they respond to the news that Scott Rudin—famous Broadway megaproducer and infamous alleged abuser—is mounting a comeback. Endorsements: Isaac: The Criterion Channel special Brian Cox: The Craft of Acting, hosted by yours truly Isaac Butler. Also, Ari Aster's newest film Eddington before the discourse begins! Why MAGA Really Hates Superman | The Karel Cast 25-96 ⸻ Superman just had the biggest solo box office opening in franchise history — so why is MAGA calling it a flop? Because Superman actually represents truth, justice, and the real American way — something MAGA no longer believes in. In this episode of The Karel Cast, we dive deep into why the right is melting down over a movie that challenges their distorted vision of patriotism. PLUS: MAGA influencers are literally burning their red hats as key figures break with Trump over his refusal to release the Epstein files. He promised transparency, so why is he backing out? Could it be that he's protecting himself — and what might those files reveal about his ties to Epstein's island? It's hypocrisy on full display, and we're unpacking all of it.

It is hard to talk about this follow up without asking what happened. The first was a surprise hit that was popular among audiences of all ages. M3GAN also took the internet by storm which is always a big win. It was not long before a sequel and spinoff were announced. Everyone seemed excited about the prospect of a M3GAN universe. We talk about how the marketing failed the movie. Was the trailer too campy? Maybe, it is not like the original was super serious. It definitely gave people the wrong impression. What made the first so appealing was how it mixed camp, sass, and creepiness. The camp and sass were in the trailer, but all of the horror was removed.Which is a shame, since M3GAN 2.0 is a pretty fun watch. It is laugh out loud funny, has some great action scenes, and did a better job of developing its main characters. It did all the right things; it just was for the wrong movie. This will have many leaving the theater feeling confused. What does the future hold for the franchise? While there has been no announcement regarding a third movie, Soulm8te is still set to be released in January 2026. Is it already time to reboot the mainline franchise? Or can they salvage something from what they already have? Was M3GAN just a matter of right place, right time? Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Send us a textF1: The Movie is a high-octane sports drama that follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a seasoned Formula One driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a promising rookie, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). Together, they join the fictional APXGP team, aiming to disrupt the established order of the racing world. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film combines practical racing sequences with real F1 footage, offering an immersive experience for audiences. The movie has been praised for its dynamic storytelling and stunning visuals, making it a must-see for both racing enthusiasts and general moviegoers.Since its release on June 27, 2025, F1: The Movie has achieved remarkable box office success, grossing approximately $293 million globally. This figure makes it Apple's highest-grossing film to date, surpassing previous top performer Napoleon. A significant portion of its opening weekend revenue—19%—came from IMAX screenings, ranking fourth for IMAX's share of global debut sales behind Dune, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and Oppenheimer. The film's success has also sparked discussions about a potential sequel, with director Joseph Kosinski expressing interest in continuing the story. While no official sequel has been announced, the film's performance makes further installments increasingly likely.Support the showThe audio clips used in this podcast, including excerpts from movie/series/documentary trailers, are used under the principles of fair use and fair dealing for the purpose of criticism, commentary, and review. In this wide-ranging episode, the host celebrates Hollywood's unexpected return to form, spotlighting the massive success of F1: The Movie. With no woke messaging, no forced diversity quotas, and a classic story of redemption and self-determination, Brad Pitt's latest hit proves audiences still crave straightforward, inspiring entertainment. The film has already grossed nearly $300 million worldwide and boasts a rare 97% audience rating, confirming that Hollywood's decline is self-inflicted—and reversible when politics are left at the door. But the optimism stops there. The host pivots to the “big, beautiful bill” passed under Trump—an eye-watering spending package that includes crucial immigration enforcement but explodes the deficit to historic highs. Despite Trump's team promising that 3% growth will pay the bill, the episode argues that this is a razor's-edge bet that could backfire spectacularly. With a bond market already wobbling and most new jobs government-funded, the risk to the dollar and the economy is enormous. This episode is both a celebration of cultural sanity—a film that simply entertains—and a sobering look at fiscal brinkmanship in Washington that could define America's future.
