This week on the @Monday_mile_series, I'm joined by the wonderful @benshephard! Ben has been anchoring morning television for over 20 years, from his early mornings on @gmb to now hosting @thismorning with the lovely Cat Deeley. This week we chat about Ben's incredible challenge #Fitatfifty, from what inspired him, and how he's found the challenge so far. Ben explains that although he's found the physical side of the challenge really rewarding, it's the mental challenge and the community that it's built that his really pushed him to keep going We also discuss his non-negotiables for how to stay fit and how he's always been good at not letting a big night out affect his day. We chat about filming the new show reality show ‘The Summit', what it was like travelling out to New Zealand to film and how it's one of the ‘most exciting things' he's ever done. Life (UN)Closeted: LGBTQ & Heterosexual Coming Out Stories & Advice for coming out of life's closets!

Lesbians just want to find love. Yes it is true, so why not give them their own reality TV show and let the fun, drama, and reality of dating life ensue. Filmmaker Nicole Conn along with model and actress Jessica-Rose Clark bring the desert life of Palm Springs to life fully in this rolicking adventure of Coming Out For Love. Think Bachelorette for Lesbians. Learn all about this ground-breaking approach to making sure Lesbians get some much needed air time about dating and mating. About Nicole, Jessica, and Coming Out For Love Prolific queer filmmaker Nicole Conn (A Perfect Ending, Elena Undone, More Beautiful For Having Been Broken), through her Nicole Conn Films Global, presents Coming Out for Love (“COFL”), a new, 16-episode dating competition premiering worldwide on February 14, 2023, across various digital streaming platforms. New episodes will air weekly. Watch the sizzle reel HERE. Conn tapped LGBTQ+ icon and activist Jessica Clark to host. An actress in such films as True Blood, Season of Love, ALIEN: Harvest, and A Perfect Ending, she is also known as co-owner of High Art Tattoo. "Jessica is made for this,” says Conn, “She's our Padma Lakshmi and Cat Deeley all rolled into one. Her imprint is so strong on this series, we immediately made her a producer.” COFL showcases sixteen queer women living together under one roof and participating in emotional and physical challenges to win weekly keys that unlock the heart of Season One's Single, influencer and activist Amber Whittington. The series prides itself on authentic representation of the queer community and does not shy away from, or edit out, hot button topics or highly volatile scenes, including sensitive racial conversations, racy sexual encounters, and not so “pc” moments. The format, competitions, and relationship interactions will appeal to all audiences, queer or straight. Queer visibility and representation are important for LGBTQ+ individuals to feel validated and helps challenge the toxic misconceptions and offensive stereotypes about the queer community. Season One Single Amber Whittington is a multi-nominee for LGBT Influencer of the Year awards and was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine as a “creator to watch” in May 2022. Whittington's YouTube channel and her “Amber's Closet” platform have been beacons of hope for many young queer women coming out. She boasts over 1.9M followers. Showrunner Nicole Conn continues, “Amber is Gandhi and Barack Obama's love child. She is the absolute strongest first lead we could have ever imagined and everyone in America will fall in love with her.” Conn is thrilled to finally have this series come to fruition, sharing, “I've always been labeled a pioneer and am proud to have the first female-loving-female reality dating competition show make Herstory in 2023. My daughter Gabrielle and I have watched The Bachelor together faithfully for years, rooting for our front-runners. I kept wishing there was a show that represented the love of two mothers she'd experienced in her own life. I've wanted to make this show for over 15 years. My business partners, Lissa Forehan, Brandon Amelotte, and I thought we'd try and have some fun with a small budget. After day one, we knew we were onto a project we'd all be damn proud of in its representation of a very diverse, multi-talented group of young queer women. THIS is the future of reality dating shows.” Co-Executive Producer Brandon Amelotte says, “Coming Out For Love gives the enormous fan base of dating competition shows another fun and engaging option. These are real women opening themselves up as they explore their issues, emotions, and sexuality. Come along for this remarkable journey, you won't be disappointed." Becoming a children's author and illustrator (part 1): The legendary children's author Julia Donaldson & new children's author and illustrator Ted Chaplin talk to We'd Like A Word presenters Paul Waters and Stevyn Colgan about how to create really good stories for young readers. Julia is the former Children's Laureate and the author of A Squash And A Squeeze, The Gruffalo, The Smartest Giant in Town, Stickman and more than a hundred books read by and to children, again and again and again. Many of them illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Now Julia is curating an online course to pass on her advice - and the advice of other experts - to other people who would like to become children's authors. It's under the auspices of the BBC Maestro series. You can find more details by following this link https://www.bbcmaestro.com/courses/julia-donaldson/writing-children-s-picture-books - 27 lessons lasting 6.5 hours, costing £80 In the meantime, Julia some surprising revelations for We'd Like A Word listeners. But what about Ted Chaplin - he's been at the top of the movie animation tree for a long time - working Farmageddon (Shaun the Sheep), Early Man, the Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists, Captain Scarlet, and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (but it wasn't his fault - if you've seen the film, you'll know what we mean). But now he's moving into writing and illustrating children's picture stories. It's been more than a year since presenters Paul and Stevyn have been able to get together face-to-face to interview a guest - due to covid - but in this episode we meet in Ted Chaplin's workshop, (which is a lot tidier looking than Steve's, I can tell you). UPDATE 10/22/2021 We want to issue a trigger warning on this episode. Recent allegations have come to light regarding the actions of Travis Wall and his actions toward young dancers at conventions. In this episode, recorded in April 2021, we are highly complimentary of Wall as a dancer and choreographer. If that may be upsetting to you, we urge you not to listen. We believe survivors. Bree and her hockey pal Liz, host of the Leafs podcast Real Gud Pros (@realgudpros on Twitter) sit down to talk about their other big passion: dance (dance, dance, dance). Did So You Think You Can Dance help the world of dance, or hurt it? Can you imagine if the show hadn't hired Cat Deeley? When did the show just become something competition dancers tried out for when they turned 18? Is Tyce Diorio both the best choreographer and the worst judge? And, of course, we have to ask: what was with the way this show treated Black men? Here is a playlist of some of our SYTYCD highlights.

It was created by American Idol producers Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe and is produced by 19 Entertainment and Dick Clark Productions The series premiered on July 20, 2005, with over ten million viewers and ended the summer season as the top-rated show on television. The first season was hosted by American news personality Lauren Sánchez. Since the second season, it has been hosted by former British children's television personality and game show emcee Cat Deeley. The show features a format where dancers trained in a variety of dance genres enter open auditions held in a number of major U.S. cities to showcase their talents and move forward through successive additional rounds of auditions to test their ability to adapt to different styles. At the end of this process, a small number of dancers are chosen as finalists. These dancers move on to the competition's main phase, where they perform solo, duet, and group dance numbers on live television, attempting to master a diverse selection of dance styles, including classical, contemporary, ballroom, hip-hop, street, club, jazz and musical theatre styles, among others. They compete for the votes of the broadcast viewing audience which, combined with the input of a panel of judges, determines which dancers advance to the next stage from week to week, until a winner is crowned as "America's favorite dancer". So You Think You Can Dance has won seven Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography and a total of nine Emmy Awards altogether. Licensed variations of the show, produced for broadcast markets in other nations, began airing in August 2005, and dozens of localized adaptations of the show have been produced since, airing in 41 countries to date. The sixteenth season premiered June 3, 2019. On February 20, 2020, the show was renewed for a seventeenth season, that was set to air in the summer of 2020, but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the season was indefinitely postponed on June 18, 2020. This Week's Thanks:Thanks to Visager for our theme song “Welcome Player.” You can find more of their music at visager.us. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Nolan Gross. Nolan finds himself being cast in films opposite some of today's hottest Hollywood stars, proving to himself and Hollywood that his career is one to be followed with anticipation. He was never one to shy away from performing in front of an audience. He started with little concerts for friends and family at the age of four. At seven years of age, he progressed to taking his passion more seriously and began to film commercials and attend local acting classes. Nolan's' first television role was in the NBC comedy series “The New Normal.” From there he went on to book a guest role in the hit FX series “American Horror Story.” Craving to be on the big screen, Nolan transitioned to film and booked roles in “Noah” (Spring 2014), James Franco's independent film “Bukowski” (2014) opposite Graham Patrick Martin and Josh Peck, “Lucky Dog” (2014) with Cat Deeley and David DeLuise, as well as the lead role of ‘Jimmy' in “Any Day” (2014) starring opposite Eva Longoria, Kate Walsh and Tom Arnold. With a slew of established actors as co-stars, Nolan has been able to learn from the best and make any actor twice his age pine for his young career.    In his spare time, Nolan loves playing club soccer, penny boarding, spending time with friends and listening to music. You can find him following international soccer teams and rooting for his favorites; Real Madrid and Barcelona. Nolan loves to travel and has visited Iceland, Australia, Spain and Italy. However, he spends most days in Southern California with his sister living like an everyday kid, attending a regular school and balancing his passion for acting with academics.
