LESSON 96Salvation Comes From My One Self.Although you are one Self, you experience yourself as two; as both good and evil, loving and hating, mind and body. This sense of being split into opposites induces feelings of acute and constant conflict, and leads to frantic attempts to reconcile the contradictory aspects of this self-perception. You have sought many such solutions, and none of them has worked. The opposites you see in you will never be compatible. But one exists.The fact that truth and illusion cannot be reconciled, no matter how you try, what means you use and where you see the problem, must be accepted if you would be saved. Until you have accepted this, you will attempt an endless list of goals you cannot reach; a senseless series of expenditures of time and effort, hopefulness and doubt, each one as futile as the one before, and failing as the next one surely will.Problems that have no meaning cannot be resolved within the framework they are set. Two selves in conflict could not be resolved, and good and evil have no meeting place. The self you made can never be your Self, nor can your Self be split in two, and still be what It is and must forever be. A mind and body cannot both exist. Make no attempt to reconcile the two, for one denies the other can be real. If you are physical, your mind is gone from your self-concept, for it has no place in which it could be really part of you. If you are spirit, then the body must be meaningless to your reality.Spirit makes use of mind as means to find its Self expression. And the mind which serves the spirit is at peace and filled with joy. Its power comes from spirit, and it is fulfilling happily its function here. Yet mind can also see itself divorced from spirit, and perceive itself within a body it confuses with itself. Without its function then it has no peace, and happiness is alien to its thoughts.Yet mind apart from spirit cannot think. It has denied its Source of strength, and sees itself as helpless, limited and weak. Dissociated from its function now, it thinks it is alone and separate, attacked by armies massed against itself and hiding in the body's frail support. Now must it reconcile unlike with like, for this is what it thinks that it is for.Waste no more time on this. Who can resolve the senseless conflicts which a dream presents? What could the resolution mean in truth? What purpose could it serve? What is it for? Salvation cannot make illusions real, nor solve a problem that does not exist. Perhaps you hope it can. Yet would you have God's plan for the release of His dear Son bring pain to him, and fail to set him free?Your Self retains Its thoughts, and they remain within your mind and in the Mind of God. The Holy Spirit holds salvation in your mind, and offers it the way to peace. Salvation is a thought you share with God, because His Voice accepted it for you and answered in your name that it was done. Thus is salvation kept among the thoughts your Self holds dear and cherishes for you.We will attempt today to find this thought, whose presence in your mind is guaranteed by Him Who speaks to you from your one Self. Our hourly five-minute practicing will be a search for Him within your mind. Salvation comes from this one Self through Him Who is the bridge between your mind and It. Wait patiently, and let Him speak to you about your Self, and what your mind can do, restored to It and free to serve Its Will.Begin with saying this:Salvation comes from my one Self.Its thoughts are mine to use.Then seek Its thoughts, and claim them as your own. It is often seen in Highly Sensitive Persons (HSPs) who suffer from Complex PTSD or childhood trauma. Abstract: Recent progress in cortical stem cell transplantation has demonstrated its potential to repair the brain. However, current transplant models have yet to demonstrate that the circuitry of transplant-derived neurons can encode useful function to the host. This is likely due to missing cell types within the grafts, abnormal proportions of cell types, abnormal cytoarchitecture, and inefficient vascularization. Here, we devised a transplant platform for testing neocortical tissue prototypes. Dissociated mouse embryonic telencephalic cells in a liquid scaffold were transplanted into aspiration-lesioned adult mouse cortices. The donor neuronal precursors differentiated into upper and deep layer neurons that exhibited synaptic puncta, projected outside of the graft to appropriate brain areas, became electrophysiologically active within one month post-transplant, and responded to visual stimuli. Interneurons and oligodendrocytes were present at normal densities in grafts. Grafts became fully vascularized by 1-week post-transplant and vessels in grafts were perfused with blood. With this paradigm, we could also organize cells into layers. Overall, we have provided proof of concept for an in vivo platform that can be used for developing and testing neocortical-like tissue prototypes. Copy rights belong to original authors. Abstract: The human brain can utilize various information to form temporal expectation and optimize perceptual performance. Here we show dissociated amplitude and phase effects of pre-stimulus alpha oscillation in a nested structure of rhythm- and sequence-based expectation. A visual stream of rhythmic stimuli was presented in a fixed sequence such that their temporal positions could be predicted by either the low-frequency rhythm, the sequence, or the combination. The behavioral modelling indicated that rhythmic and sequence information additively led to increased accumulation of sensory evidence and alleviated threshold for the perceptual discrimination of the expected stimulus. The electroencephalographical (EEG) results showed that the alpha amplitude was dominated by rhythmic information, with the amplitude fluctuating in the same frequency of the oscillation entrained by the rhythmic information (i.e., phase-amplitude coupling). The alpha phase, however, was affected by both rhythmic and sequence information. Importantly, rhythm-based expectation improved the perceptual performance by decreasing the alpha amplitude, whereas sequence-based expectation did not further decrease the amplitude on top of rhythm-based expectation. Moreover, rhythm-based and sequence-based expectation collaboratively improved the perceptual performance by biasing the alpha oscillation toward the optimal phase. Salvation comes from my one Self. Although you are one Self, you experience yourself as two; as both good and evil, loving and hating, mind and body. This sense of being split into opposites induces feelings of acute and constant conflict, and leads to frantic attempts to reconcile the contradictory aspects of this self-perception. You have sought many such solutions, and none of them has worked. The opposites you see in you will never be compatible. But one exists. The fact that truth and illusion cannot be reconciled, no matter how you try, what means you use and where you see the problem, must be accepted if you would be saved. Until you have accepted this, you will attempt an endless list of goals you cannot reach; a senseless series of expenditures of time and effort, hopefulness and doubt, each one as futile as the one before, and failing as the next one surely will. Problems that have no meaning cannot be resolved within the framework they are set. Two selves in conflict could not be resolved, and good and evil have no meeting place. The self you made can never be your Self, nor can your Self be split in two, and still be what It is and must forever be. A mind and body cannot both exist. Make no attempt to reconcile the two, for one denies the other can be real. If you are physical, your mind is gone from your self-concept, for it has no place in which it could be really part of you. If you are spirit, then the body must be meaningless to your reality. Spirit makes use of mind as means to find its Self expression. And the mind which serves the spirit is at peace and filled with joy. Its power comes from spirit, and it is fulfilling happily its function here. Yet mind can also see itself divorced from spirit, and perceive itself within a body it confuses with itself. Without its function then it has no peace, and happiness is alien to its thoughts. Yet mind apart from spirit cannot think. It has denied its Source of strength, and sees itself as helpless, limited and weak. Dissociated from its function now, it thinks it is alone and separate, attacked by armies massed against itself and hiding in the body's frail support. Now must it reconcile unlike with like, for this is what it thinks that it is for. Waste no more time on this. Who can resolve the senseless conflicts which a dream presents? What could the resolution mean in truth? What purpose could it serve? What is it for? Salvation cannot make illusions real, nor solve a problem that does not exist. Perhaps you hope it can. Yet would you have God's plan for the release of His dear Son bring pain to him, and fail to set him free? Your Self retains Its thoughts, and they remain within your mind and in the Mind of God. The Holy Spirit holds salvation in your mind, and offers it the way to peace. Salvation is a thought you share with God, because His Voice accepted it for you and answered in your name that it was done. Thus is salvation kept among the thoughts your Self holds dear and cherishes for you. We will attempt today to find this thought, whose presence in your mind is guaranteed by Him Who speaks to you from your one Self. Our hourly five-minute practicing will be a search for Him within your mind. Salvation comes from this one Self through Him Who is the bridge between your mind and It. Wait patiently, and let Him speak to you about your Self, and what your mind can do, restored to It and free to serve Its Will. Begin with saying this: Salvation comes from my one Self. Its thoughts are mine to use. Then seek Its thoughts, and claim them as your own. These are your own real thoughts you have denied, and let your mind go wandering in a world of dreams, to find illusions in their place. Here are your thoughts, the only ones you have. Salvation is among them; find it there. If you succeed, the thoughts that come to you will tell you you are saved, and that your mind has found the function that it sought to lose. Your Self will welcome it and give it peace. Restored in strength, it will again flow out from spirit to the spirit in all things created by the Spirit as Itself. Your mind will bless all things. Confusion done, you are restored, for you have found your Self. Your Self knows that you cannot fail today. Perhaps your mind remains uncertain yet a little while. Be not dismayed by this. The joy your Self experiences It will save for you, and it will yet be yours in full awareness. Every time you spend five minutes of the hour seeking Him Who joins your mind and Self, you offer Him another treasure to be kept for you. Each time today you tell your frantic mind salvation comes from your one Self, you lay another treasure in your growing store. And all of it is given everyone who asks for it, and will accept the gift. One of the ways that the new-age industry participates in the hate economy is through the politics of dissociated spirituality. Dissociated spirituality is strategic for the hate economy to hold power over us. Simply put, it's a “divide and conquer” approach aimed to fragment & hijack our consciousness. The more dissociated we are, the more disempowered we are towards anyone and anything that tries to sell us s**t. Hence why the spiritual materialism sector of new-age is booming.A big part of sacred activism is reclaiming the parts of our consciousness that have been severed off and used against us without our conscious awareness or consent. To use without consent constitutes abuse. Spiritual abuse is rampant in new-age because the industry thrives within a systematic structure of domination, coercion, and control. In this 35 min discussion colleague and fellow therapist Carol Greenwood and I discuss the effect of lockdowns and restrictions on essential contact for healthy human minds and bodies. Our longing for connection is subverted and instead replaced with the idea that we need to fear eachother. This has implications for society as a whole and leads to numbing behaviours that dissociate us from our own bodies and the planet we live on.The climate crisis we are facing is thus ignored or simply pushed aside as we struggle with the signals of danger we are receiving from our bodies. We simply have no energy left to deal with the bigger picture, despite the looming crisis. But these things are not divorced from one another. Dissociated cultures do not take care of eachother or the planet. 1.      Intro: Welcome to the podcast Coronavirus Crisis: Carpe Diem!, where by God's grace, you and I rise up and embrace the possibilities and opportunities for spiritual and psychological growth in this time of crisis, all grounded in a Catholic worldview.   We are going beyond mere resilience, to rising up to the challenges of this pandemic and becoming even healthier in the natural and the spiritual realms than we were before.  I'm clinical psychologist Peter Malinoski and I am here with you, to be your host and guide.  This podcast is part of Souls and Hearts, our online outreach at soulsandhearts.com, which is all about shoring up our natural foundation for the spiritual life, all about overcoming psychological obstacles to being loved and to loving.  a.       Thank you for being here with me.  This is episode 37, released on October 12, 2020 b.      and it is titled: The Silent Killer Who Stalks You From Inside.  2.      I want to talk with you about the silent killer, the worst adversary I face clinically, the greatest rival, the greatest opponent to love and life that I have ever met within another person or within myself. 3.      This one is a very stealthy, effective, ruthless killer -- often hidden beneath the surface of our consciousness, in the murky waters deep below where we can see.  But then at times it surfaces, Powerful, moving.  And maybe you think I'm being dramatic -- but I'm not.  I've seen it kill other and I've been seriously wounded by it myself.     a.       Killer on the natural level and also on the spiritual level.  This assassin slays not only hearts, minds and bodies but also souls.  A very comprehensive murderer, very complete, this hitman does his work often slowly but very thoroughly.  b.      Who is this killer?  High blood pressure?  No.  Stroke?  No.  Heart disease?  No.  Diabetes?  No.  Cancer? No.  These can and do kill bodies, but as serious as they are, they are nowhere near as deadly to most people as our silent killer.  c.       Who is this killer?  The devil you say?  Satan?  No.  Not Satan.  Satan cherishes this killer, and prizes the stealthy sneaking, clandestine work.d.      No, it's not Satan because this killer lives within us in a way that demons ordinarily do not.  This killer has a pass to roam within us, to move in our being.  Satan doesn't, unless we are possessed.  Besides, Satan does not have permission to slay us, or to harm us unless God permits it, at least with His passive will, and only then for our greater good.  e.       This killer seems meek and modest, but when it whispers its messages in our ear, it evokes in us fear, anxiety, depression, and efforts to do more and more, and it can also provoke us to anger, aggression, and violence.  Unchecked, this killer can bring us all the way to helpless, despair and suicide.  f.        Some of us try to numb ourselves to distract ourselves from this killer by using alcohol, drugs, food, binging on Netflix, hours of social media, masturbation, porn, shopping, compulsive exercise, gambling, surfing the web, video games, sleeping the day away, dissociating and even cutting and burning our bodies, all in an attempt to escape.g.      Who is this killer?  It is absolutely vital for us to know -- is it guilt -- no.  Depression -- no, Anxiety, Fear, Anger -- no, no, no.  Is it pride?  No, not pride.  But this killer has a close and intimate relationship with pride.  The killer feeds pride and is nourished by pride.  Who is it?  Take a moment and really think about it.  We need to know this killer, this adversary.  And we will.  Today we will be getting to know this silent killer.  But not yet.  We've got to look beyond the killer for a moment.  4.      There is one thing that disarms this killer.  One thing.  And that one thing is Love.  Real authentic Love.  Charity.   Love rescues us from this killer.  It transforms us, makes us immune to the silent killer who no longer has power over us.  So let's talk about love.  5.      Shifting gears.  Two great commandments -- a.       Matthew 22:35-40    And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” And Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.”b.      Main task is to love God and love our neighbor.  With all of ourselves.  All your heart, all your mind, all your soul.  All of us.  c.       And we need to love our neighbor as ourself.  Think about that.  Love our neighbor as ourselves.                                                                                 i.            Jesus doesn't say we need to love our neighbor more than ourselves -- it could be implied, but I wonder about whether that's possible.  d.      So that means we need to be loved                                                                                i.            Reflecting on last week's episode --  Why we flee from real love.  the capacity to receive love --                                                                               ii.             We discussed fear, avoidance, anger                                                                             iii.            We went into how real love burns, it requires us to give up dysfunctional coping mechanisms                                                                            iv.            It can require us to give up good things that are lesser than love.                                                                                v.            We discussed require us to be open, receptive and thus also vulnerable                                                                             vi.            But we didn't discuss what or who causes our vulnerability to seem so dangerous to us.  Who does that?   That is the silent killer rearing its ugly head again.  It's our silent killer makes the vulnerability seem so perilous, so potentially catastrophic for us.  e.       We need to be loved in order to pass that love on                                                                                i.            Last episode Nemo dat quod non habet  -- No one gives what they don't have.   Nemo dat rule.                                                                               ii.            To reflect that love back to God                                                                            iii.            To be a channel of love to others                                                                            iv.            And to love ourselves in an ordered way 6.      So ultimately, what I want is for you to be able to love God so much better and to love your neighbor so much bettera.       So we will do a whole series of episode on loving God and another whole series of loving our neighbor                                                                                i.            Focusing on the psychological aspects that can make this much more difficult than it needs to be                                                                              ii.            Souls and Hearts -- Grace perfects nature.  7.      But we need to start with receiving love bettera.       So first, we will do a whole series of episodes on receiving love.                                                                                i.            From God our Father                                                                              ii.            From Mary our Mother                                                                            iii.            From Jesus and the Holy Spirit                                                                            iv.            From the Saints                                                                              v.            From ourselves                                                                            vi.            And from others8.      And to kick that series off loving ourselves better, we need to know what are the obstacles, especially the psychological obstacles to receiving love.   We need to know what stands in the way, what are the hurdles, what makes it difficult for us to receive love.  a.       And that brings us back, face to face with our silent killer.  And now it's time to name the killer.9.      The silent killer, the worst adversary I face clinically, the greatest rival, the greatest opponent to love and life that I have ever met within another person or within myself is [drum roll]  Shame.  S-H-A-M-E.  Shame.  10.  So what is shame.  How do we define it.  a.       English has real limitations, a significantly restricted vocabulary when it comes to expressing the nuances of internal experience.  It's really important to get this straight.  b.      Brene Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston -- really done a great job of bringing the topics of shame and vulnerability into the public square for discussion                                                                                i.            Her definition of shame:  I define shame as the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing that we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love and belonging – something we've experienced, done, or failed to do makes us unworthy of connection                                                                              ii.            Great start and better than most definitions out there.  But still incomplete.  Brene Brown is primarily a researcher, though she is a licensed master social worker and has clinical experience.   I approach this as a trauma therapist who really specializes in shame work.   c.       Shame is:  a primary emotion, a bodily reaction, a signal,  a judgement, and an action.  d.      Drawing heavily from Treating Trauma-Related Dissociation -- A practical, integrative Approach by Kathy Steele, Suzette Boon, and Otto van Der Hart.  Experts in complex trauma, with a real focus on the disconnects that happen within the person who has experienced trauma.                                                                                  i.            Those disconnects, when severe enough, become dissociation                                                                              ii.            Those disconnects are, by definition, a lack of integration.  e.       Shame is a primary emotion -- heartset                                                                                i.            Primary emotions are those that we feel first, as a first response to a situation. They are unthinking, instinctive, automatic emotions that we have. Under threat, we feel fear.  We don't have to think about it.  We see a Bear in our campsite. Hmm  Bear.  Big teeth.  Looks feriocious. It's coming at us.  Ok, it's time to be scared.                                                                                ii.            Emotional response to 1.      a real or perceived abandonment2.      Rejection3.      The loss of relationship -- a relationship we sense (rightly or wrongly) that we need to survivef.        Shame as a bodily reaction -- physiology of shame  Bodyset                                                                                i.            Defenses against shame are immediate, unmediated by our higher-order thought processes1.      The intellect does not have time to reflects2.      The automatic nature of the defenses against shame compromises the will's effectiveness in the moment.                                                                                ii.            Takes us out of the window of tolerance1.      Window of tolerance the zone of arousal in which a person is able to function most effectively. When people are within this zone, they are typically able to readily take in information, process that information, and integrate that information more readily.  People in the window of tolerance are feeling emotions at moderate levels, not overwhelmed with emotion and not numbing their feelings out.  People in the window of tolerance respond to the demands of everyday life without much difficulty -- they can make pretty good decisions, carry out their role responsibilities, do what they need to do.  2.      Stressful cortisol levels go up, and our ACTH levels rise, indicating a stress response.3.      Hyperarousal -- this is where our sympathetic nervous system revs us up, gets into fight or flight mode in response to shamea.       Heart starts racingb.      Breathing quickensc.       Pupils dilated.      Blood rushes to arms and legse.       Face can flush red f.        Get ready to defend ourselves or attack or run away 4.      Hypoarousal, when the parasympathetic nervous system shuts us down -- freeze response, like a deer in the headlightsa.       We disengage sociallyb.      Want to disappear, hide, camouflage ourselves. c.       Shut down.  Numb out.  Dissociated.      Lowering of the heade.       Breaking off eye contactf.        Tightening up of muscles, curling up in a ball (spine) -- hunching to protect vital organs.  Making one's body smaller, less visibleg.      Feeling like ice water in the veins, cold freezing sensationh.      Fluttering in belly.g.      Functions of Shame  This often gets missed.  The upside of shame.  Why it exists.                                                                                 i.            Shame is a signal that there is a lack of attunement or an even more serious threat in one or more of our important relationships.  It has important function                                                                              ii.            Shame inhibits other emotions, thoughts, sensations, beliefs or behaviors that are perceived as unacceptable to powerful others who we need.1.      Steele Boone and van der Hart refer to it as a "social threat detector" that alerts us to modify or avoid behaviors that will cause us to be rejected by those we need.  They see this as part of social evolution.   2.      Shame helps us learn the boundaries of socially acceptable behavior so that we can be part of our group, with the optimal level of closeness and distance.  a.       By 12 to 18 months or so, toddlers show signs of shame in response to misattunement or disapproval.  Mommy and Daddy's reactions help guide the child through developmental milestone and avoiding shame is a part of that.  3.      Shame is a survival mechanism.  It helps save us from potential terrible consequences -- example of abuse.  Inhibiting of crying -- I'll give you something to cry about.  Freezing, staying still not crying.  4.       Some shame needs to be accepted.  The only ones who don't seem to experience shame at all are psychopaths -- sociopaths.  Think of it -- someone who is shameless -- that's hardly a compliment.   8.      Shame as a judgment  -- mindseta.       A judgement about who we really are from the perpective of a critical, rejecting other.                                                                                                    i.            We look at ourselves through the eyes of critical, angry or disappointed other, often a parent or other caregiver.  b.      But we have internalized it.  We've take it inside.  Now we are doing it to ourselves.  c.       We repeat messages we've picked up from important others:                                                                                                  i.            Nobody cares about you.                                                                                                  ii.            You're a loser                                                                                              iii.            You can't do anything right                                                                                              iv.            You should never have been born. d.      May no longer the case, no longer accurate.  Anachronistic, no longer applies.  No longer in second grade.   9.      Chronic shame needs to be attenuated, reduced, titrated, ordered, regulated. a.       Chronic shame develops when the child has a sense of being rejected, unwanted, a burden.  b.      When the child changes behaviors, does what he can to be better in the eyes of the adult and still is rejected, he can conclude that he just is a bad person.  c.       The difficulty is in the response of the others -- the caregivers.  d.      But the child bears the burden of shame caused by the shaming of the caregivers.  e.       Child sees parts that are unacknowledged and unacceptablef.        Ostracized or invaded.  10.  And we assume that God is like our caregivers -- soulset.   11.  Shame as action  -- “shaming” is an action that is intended to cause someone else to feel inadequate, worthless, unlovable, a loser, etc.  for being or doing something that the originator feels is wrong or undesirable.a.       It is a quick way to control another person, especially one in a dependent positionsb.      Little children will do almost anything to preserve their attachments to their parentsc.       Teachers, coaches, instructors -- huge powersd.      Also romantic partners are motivated my shame -- seems to protect from the loss of relationship.  12.  Qualities of shamea.       Shame is hidden.  Hidden from others, hidden from God, often hidden from the therapist, hidden from self.  b.        Shame inhibits positive emotions13.  Strategies for coping with shamea.       Nathanson (1992, 1997)  Four defensive scripts for avoiding shame:                                                                                                  i.            Attack self                                                                                                ii.            Attacking others first -- preemptive.  Sarcasm, cutting humor,                                                                                               iii.            Isolate from others                                                                                              iv.            Avoid inner experiences1.      Controlling-caregiving -- viewing others as more deserving, as more in need.  Denying my own needs by extending myself to serve others, but it's not out of charity -- it's a defense, a way of running away from my own shame, keeping just ahead of my shame shadow.   11.  Brief review  Shame is:  a primary emotion, a bodily reaction, a signal, a judgment, and an action.  There's not a simple definition.  12.  Enough for today.  We will get more into shame and how to work with it in the next several episodes.  So much more to unpack.  This was N., Hughes, L. E., Forsythe, A., Krishnamani, V., Faraldo-Gomez, J., Robertson, J. L. Abstract: Over two-thirds of membrane proteins of known structure assemble into oligomers. Yet, the forces that drive the association of these proteins in the membrane remain to be delineated, as the lipid bilayer is a solvent environment that is both structurally and chemically complex. In this study we reveal how the lipid solvent defines the dimerization equilibrium of the CLC-ec1 Cl-/H+ antiporter. Integrating experimental and computational approaches, we show that monomers associate to avoid an energetic penalty for solvating a thinned-membrane defect caused by their exposed dimerization interfaces. Supporting this theory, we demonstrate that this penalty is drastically reduced with minimal amounts of short-chain lipids, which stabilize the monomeric state by preferentially solvating the defect rather than altering the physical state of the membrane. We thus posit that the energy differentials for local lipid-solvation define membrane-protein association equilibria, and describe a molecular-level physical mechanism for lipid regulation of such processes in biological conditions. Abstract: Stuttering is a neurodevelopmental disorder of speech fluency. Various experimental paradigms have demonstrated that affected individuals show limitations in sensorimotor control and learning. However, controversy exists regarding two core aspects of this perspective. First, it has been claimed that sensorimotor learning limitations are detectable only in adults who stutter (after years of coping with the disorder) but not during childhood close to the onset of stuttering. Second, it remains unclear whether stuttering individuals' sensorimotor learning limitations affect only speech movements or also unrelated effector systems involved in nonspeech movements. We report data from separate experiments investigating speech auditory-motor learning (N = 60) and limb visuomotor learning (N = 84) in both children and adults who stutter versus matched nonstuttering individuals. Both children and adults who stutter showed statistically significant limitations in speech auditory-motor adaptation with formant-shifted feedback. This limitation was more profound in children than in adults and in younger children versus older children. Between-group differences in the adaptation of reach movements performed with rotated visual feedback were subtle but statistically significant for adults. In children, even the nonstuttering groups showed limited visuomotor adaptation just like their stuttering peers. We conclude that sensorimotor learning is impaired in individuals who stutter, and that the ability for speech auditory-motor learning -- which was already adult-like in 3-6 year-old typically developing children -- is severely compromised in young children near the onset of stuttering. Thus, motor learning limitations may play an important role in the fundamental mechanisms contributing to the onset of this speech disorder. Copy rights belong to original authors. Salvation comes from my one Self. Although you are one Self, you experience yourself as two; as both good and evil, loving and hating, mind and body. This sense of being split into opposites induces feelings of acute and constant conflict, and leads to frantic attempts to reconcile the contradictory aspects of this self-perception. You have sought many such solutions, and none of them has worked. The opposites you see in you will never be compatible. But one exists. The fact that truth and illusion cannot be reconciled, no matter how you try, what means you use and where you see the problem, must be accepted if you would be saved. Until you have accepted this, you will attempt an endless list of goals you cannot reach; a senseless series of expenditures of time and effort, hopefulness and doubt, each one as futile as the one before, and failing as the next one surely will. Problems that have no meaning cannot be resolved within the framework they are set. Two selves in conflict could not be resolved, and good and evil have no meeting place. The self you made can never be your Self, nor can your Self be split in two, and still be what It is and must forever be. A mind and body cannot both exist. Make no attempt to reconcile the two, for one denies the other can be real. If you are physical, your mind is gone from your self-concept, for it has no place in which it could be really part of you. If you are spirit, then the body must be meaningless to your reality. Spirit makes use of mind as means to find its Self expression. And the mind which serves the spirit is at peace and filled with joy. Its power comes from spirit, and it is fulfilling happily its function here. Yet mind can also see itself divorced from spirit, and perceive itself within a body it confuses with itself. Without its function then it has no peace, and happiness is alien to its thoughts. Yet mind apart from spirit cannot think. It has denied its Source of strength, and sees itself as helpless, limited and weak. Dissociated from its function now, it thinks it is alone and separate, attacked by armies massed against itself and hiding in the body's frail support. Now must it reconcile unlike with like, for this is what it thinks that it is for. Waste no more time on this. Who can resolve the senseless conflicts which a dream presents? What could the resolution mean in truth? What purpose could it serve? What is it for? Salvation cannot make illusions real, nor solve a problem that does not exist. Perhaps you hope it can. Yet would you have God's plan for the release of His dear Son bring pain to him, and fail to set him free? Your Self retains Its thoughts, and they remain within your mind and in the Mind of God. The Holy Spirit holds salvation in your mind, and offers it the way to peace. Salvation is a thought you share with God, because His Voice accepted it for you and answered in your name that it was done. Thus is salvation kept among the thoughts your Self holds dear and cherishes for you. We will attempt today to find this thought, whose presence in your mind is guaranteed by Him Who speaks to you from your one Self. Our hourly five-minute practicing will be a search for Him within your mind. Salvation comes from this one Self through Him Who is the bridge between your mind and It. Wait patiently, and let Him speak to you about your Self, and what your mind can do, restored to It and free to serve Its Will. Begin with saying this: Salvation comes from my one Self. Its thoughts are mine to use. Then seek Its thoughts, and claim them as your own. These are your own real thoughts you have denied, and let your mind go wandering in a world of dreams, to find illusions in their place. Here are your thoughts, the only ones you have. Salvation is among them; find it there. If you succeed, the thoughts that come to you will tell you you are saved, and that your mind has found the function that it sought to lose. Your Self will welcome it and give it peace. Restored in strength, it will again flow out from spirit to the spirit in all things created by the Spirit as Itself. Your mind will bless all things. Confusion done, you are restored, for you have found your Self. Your Self knows that you cannot fail today. Perhaps your mind remains uncertain yet a little while. Be not dismayed by this. The joy your Self experiences It will save for you, and it will yet be yours in full awareness. Every time you spend five minutes of the hour seeking Him Who joins your mind and Self, you offer Him another treasure to be kept for you. Each time today you tell your frantic mind salvation comes from your one Self, you lay another treasure in your growing store. And all of it is given everyone who asks for it, and will accept the gift. Think, then, how much is given unto you to give this day, that it be given you!- Jesus Christ in A Course in Miracles, Lesson 96

Salvation comes from my one Self. Although you are one Self, you experience yourself as two; as both good and evil, loving and hating, mind and body. This sense of being split into opposites induces feelings of acute and constant conflict, and leads to frantic attempts to reconcile the contradictory aspects of this self-perception. You have sought many such solutions, and none of them has worked. The opposites you see in you will never be compatible. But one exists. The fact that truth and illusion cannot be reconciled, no matter how you try, what means you use and where you see the problem, must be accepted if you would be saved. Until you have accepted this, you will attempt an endless list of goals you cannot reach; a senseless series of expenditures of time and effort, hopefulness and doubt, each one as futile as the one before, and failing as the next one surely will. Problems that have no meaning cannot be resolved within the framework they are set. Two selves in conflict could not be resolved, and good and evil have no meeting place. The self you made can never be your Self, nor can your Self be split in two, and still be what It is and must forever be. A mind and body cannot both exist. Make no attempt to reconcile the two, for one denies the other can be real. If you are physical, your mind is gone from your self-concept, for it has no place in which it could be really part of you. If you are spirit, then the body must be meaningless to your reality. Spirit makes use of mind as means to find its Self expression. And the mind which serves the spirit is at peace and filled with joy. Its power comes from spirit, and it is fulfilling happily its function here. Yet mind can also see itself divorced from spirit, and perceive itself within a body it confuses with itself. Without its function then it has no peace, and happiness is alien to its thoughts. Yet mind apart from spirit cannot think. It has denied its Source of strength, and sees itself as helpless, limited and weak. Dissociated from its function now, it thinks it is alone and separate, attacked by armies massed against itself and hiding in the body's frail support. Now must it reconcile unlike with like, for this is what it thinks that it is for. Waste no more time on this. Who can resolve the senseless conflicts which a dream presents? What could the resolution mean in truth? What purpose could it serve? What is it for? Salvation cannot make illusions real, nor solve a problem that does not exist. Perhaps you hope it can. Yet would you have God's plan for the release of His dear Son bring pain to him, and fail to set him free? Your Self retains Its thoughts, and they remain within your mind and in the Mind of God. The Holy Spirit holds salvation in your mind, and offers it the way to peace. Salvation is a thought you share with God, because His Voice accepted it for you and answered in your name that it was done. Thus is salvation kept among the thoughts your Self holds dear and cherishes for you. We will attempt today to find this thought, whose presence in your mind is guaranteed by Him Who speaks to you from your one Self. Our hourly five-minute practicing will be a search for Him within your mind. Salvation comes from this one Self through Him Who is the bridge between your mind and It. Wait patiently, and let Him speak to you about your Self, and what your mind can do, restored to It and free to serve Its Will. Begin with saying this: Salvation comes from my one Self. Its thoughts are mine to use. Then seek Its thoughts, and claim them as your own. These are your own real thoughts you have denied, and let your mind go wandering in a world of dreams, to find illusions in their place. Here are your thoughts, the only ones you have. Salvation is among them; find it there. If you succeed, the thoughts that come to you will tell you you are saved, and that your mind has found the function that it sought to lose. Your Self will welcome it and give it peace. Restored in strength, it will again flow out from spirit to the spirit in all things created by the Spirit as Itself. Your mind will bless all things. Confusion done, you are restored, for you have found your Self. Your Self knows that you cannot fail today. Perhaps your mind remains uncertain yet a little while. Be not dismayed by this. The joy your Self experiences It will save for you, and it will yet be yours in full awareness. Every time you spend five minutes of the hour seeking Him Who joins your mind and Self, you offer Him another treasure to be kept for you. Each time today you tell your frantic mind salvation comes from your one Self, you lay another treasure in your growing store. And all of it is given everyone who asks for it, and will accept the gift. It’s all too common for people to want someone else to change … because we tend to think we’re perfect and we don’t need to change. The other person needs to change, right? It’s important to remember that relationships are communication loops. The way to change someone else, magically, is to change yourself. John Grinder taught Mike to ask the question, “What am I doing that is exquisitely maintaining that other person’s behaviour?” If you ask this question to yourself you’ll often come up with useful answers. Chris asks Mike to do a detailed breakdown of the NLP personal edit known as “Theatre of the Mind”. It’s an absolutely brilliant technique that was taught to Mike by his mentor. Don’t JUST listen to this. Learn it and then use it on yourself as a personal test.  Then use it with clients, friends, family, etc. Shock yourself at how incredibly powerful this is. We discuss how formalizing this as a “personal edit” is more effective than just consciously analyzing the situation and thinking about how you *should* change. Mike explains another great NLP technique that makes use of two chairs and an exploration of the three perceptual positions. The three perceptual positions are: 1) Self; 2) Other person, or  empathy; 3) Dissociated, or observer. Chris admits to using a horrible line on his wife that he KNOWS will irritate her, and relates it to the Theatre of the Mind personal edit that Mike taught in this episode. Mike discusses the importance of having an exit strategy for conversations. Chris brings up the “What’s next?” exit – this is the question all hypnotists should ask to their clients at the end of a session. Mike talks about dealing with pain by speaking to it directly – it sounds like it should be totally nuts but it isn’t. Check it out as an exercise to use for yourself! Want to setup your own personal anchor to fire off an incredibly resourceful state at anytime?  Mike explains how to begin the process such that you stack on more and more positive stuff each time you do it.  This is amazing stuff!  Anchors must be replicable, repeated, and unique so you’re not firing them by accident. Dr Sam Warner: 'Visions, voices, dissociated parts and child sexual abuse: from living life in crisis to moving on to recovery', Joint Special Interest Group in Psychosis, 24 February 2016 In this talk, Sam Warner demonstrates how visions, voices and dissociated parts sometimes develop in response to the overwhelming trauma of child sexual abuse. She explores how splitting parts off in these ways helps people to mentally survive the trauma of abuse, but can also cause additional stress, which may undermine their recovery. This is particularly the case when services view visions, voices and dissociated parts as symptoms of mental disorder, rather than as meaningful and potentially helpful starting points for recovery. Drawing on her work with children and adults who hear voices, see visions and experience different identities, she demonstrates how victims of childhood sexual abuse can be supported to use their visions, voices and dissociated parts to understand abuse-trauma and to provide direction for recovery

This thesis proposes two complementary scenarios to observe Bell correlations in the motion of two macroscopically separated material particles. Both are based on the gradual dissociation of ultracold Feshbach molecules and result in macroscopic delocalizations of the single-atom states. By giving a full account of these scenarios, including the coupled-channel description of the Feshbach dissociation, the optically guided dispersive propagation, interferometric processing and the final position measurements, I demonstrate for both cases their potential to violate a Bell inequality under experimentally viable conditions that correspond to delocalizations and interatomic separations on the order of centimeters.

Formation of the prestalk-prespore pattern in Dictyostelium was investigated in slugs and submerged clumps of cells. Prestalk and prespore cells were identified by staining with vital dyes, which are shown to be stable cell markers. Dissociated slug cells reaggregate and form slugs that contain a prestalk-prespore pattern indistinguishable from the original pattern. The pattern forms by sorting out of stained prestalk cells from unstained prespore cells. Sorting also occurs in clumps of dissociated slug cells submerged in liquid or agar. A pattern arises in 2 h in which a central core of stained cells is surrounded by a periphery of unstained cells. Sorting appears to be due to differential chemotaxis of stained and unstained cells to cAMP since exogenous cAMP (>10−7 M) reverses the normal direction of sorting-out such that stained cells sort to the periphery of the clumps. Isolated portions of slugs regenerate a new prestalk-prespore pattern. Posterior isolates regenerate a pattern within 2 h due to sorting of a population of vitally stained ‘anterior-like’ cells present in posteriors. Anterior-like cells do not sort in intact slugs due to the influence of a diffusible inhibitor secreted by the anterior region. During posterior regeneration this signal is absent and anterior-like cells rapidly acquire the ability to sort. Anterior isolates regenerate a staining pattern more slowly than posterior isolates by a process that requires conversion of stained prestalk cells to unstained prespore cells. The results suggest that pattern formation in Dictyostelium consists of two processes: establishment of appropriate proportions of two cell types and establishment of the pattern itself by a mechanism of sorting-out.
