Now on top of that, you have … athletes who are going to be put in isolation because either they're a close contact, or … they are testing positive and we will get more positive tests,” says ESPN national reporter Michele Steele. “That is what IOC [International Olympic Committee] organizers expect over the coming days, just as a function of the 11,000 athletes who are going to be in that village.”

With so much uncertainty around right now, the only certainty seems to be this: COVID anxiety is a thing and it's becoming more of a problem as time goes by. COVID anxiety is affecting mental health for a lot of people and we need to do something about it. What is COVID anxiety? It's the various aspects of  COVID that are creating additional anxieties in people. For me this is not the same as simply having a higher level of anxiety due to the pressures of living with COVID.Some people are reporting that since COVID came into our lives, they are now experiencing anxiety where they didn't before. In this episode I explore the various aspects of COVID anxiety and how you can begin address it, if that's what you want.   Head Trash Clearance Tips for COVID Anxiety If you want to tackle your COVID anxiety, then it's worth exploring each of these aspects and identifying what it is about those things that brings up fear or anxiety for you. There's a lot here to unravel and it will be different for everyone, but here are some things that I would expect to see on someone's Head Trash Clearance To-Do list if they wanted to reduce their COVID anxiety. The same week the Film #Thewisdomoftrauma with @GaborMate  is released it feels apt to discuss #Collectivetrauma since the covid pandemic. In this 35 min discussion colleague and fellow therapist Carol Greenwood and I discuss the effect of lockdowns and restrictions on essential contact for healthy human minds and bodies. Our longing for connection is subverted and instead replaced with the idea that we need to fear eachother. This has implications for society as a whole and leads to numbing behaviours that dissociate us from our own bodies and the planet we live on.The climate crisis we are facing is thus ignored or simply pushed aside as we struggle with the signals of danger we are receiving from our bodies. We simply have no energy left to deal with the bigger picture, despite the looming crisis. But these things are not divorced from one another. Dissociated cultures do not take care of eachother or the planet. We are truly in a toxic culture as @DrGaborMate has said in his most recent book.We discuss ways in which you can heal your self and those around you by meaningful, attuned connection which helps to heal the wounds of attachment failures triggered by the isolation we have had enforced. There is hope for a new, brighter tomorrow when we come to terms with the nature of our biology as social creatures.Carol and I can be found individually on greenwood-therapies.com (welbeing coaching/ myofascial release) and alchemytherapies.co.uk (trauma therapy and massage) AND together as fatigue-free.me (multidisciplinary team approach to chronic fatigue and post-viral conditions).

Has the pandemic changed our perception on the world we once knew? How do we move forward with healthy boundaries for our newly claimed time away from potential social pressures?

COVID-19 has brought us a lot of firsts. For some, the COVID-19 era may have been the first time many may have and are currently experiencing anxiety: children making up a large percentage of this category. There's a well-known quote that says “We can't stop the waves in life, but we can learn to surf” We can't change what we've been and are still going through with COVID, however, we can change our perception of it, and choose to look at the events and situations from another point of view. That being, what have we learnt from this living through the pandemic that can help benefit our lives? Lucky for us we are joined by our special guest Sarah Smith, Dietitian from Bayside Dietetics who is going to talk to us about how we can learn from our COVID anxiety and help us and our children be healthier. Sarah works in private a practice in Bayside Melbourne after working for an extended period within a Monash Children's Hospital. We ask Sarah questions including: As a dietitian, you have naturally used the analogy of food and it's relation to COVID anxiety. Can you explain a little more about your philosophy? How does the concept of not getting enough to eat do the very opposite and drive us to overeat? Is the example of panic buying the correlation and demonstration of human behaviour of anxiety and how we have demonstrated this recently in the COVID-19 era? Could you please explain how trying to stop your child from eating too much can backfire and make them eat more? Is there an alternative approach that doesn't have the consequence of backfiring in this way?  What else can parents be doing to make sure they look after their children's eating and nutrition? For Sarah's full article please visit: https://kiddipedia.com.au/learning-from-covid-anxiety-to-help-our-kids-be-healthier/ For more information on Sarah, please go to: http://www.baysidedietetics.com.au/   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I've been reading a lot about kids and anxiety during this pandemic, and I've been surprised me by how well my kids have adjusted to the new normal. Or so I thought. Turns out kids can show quite subtle signs that they're struggling with Covid-stress… which is stressful. Even if our children don't really grasp the full extent of what's going on, life is very different for them now. But, children don't express their emotions in the same way that we do, so how on earth are we meant to know if they're stressed or anxious, or whether it's simply age-appropriate behavior? Well, there are five subtle signs that mental health experts say we need to keep an eye out for.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
