Alan Abramowitz, a professor emeritus of political science at Emory University, returns to “Closer Look” for a recap of the convention. Plus, the Georgia State Election Board is facing criticism along with calls for some board members to be removed for changing rules, specifically one rule that involves the certification of election results. This all comes just months ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Janelle King, a member of the Georgia State Election Board, responds to the criticism.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has strongly condemned the loss of civilian lives following an Israeli air strike on a school building, in Gaza, on Saturday. The attack claimed the lives of over 70 people who had sought refuge in the building. The United Nations reports that, as of last Tuesday, 477 of Gaza's 564 school buildings have been directly hit or damaged, with more than a dozen targeted since then, in the ongoing war in the Middle East. For more on this Elvis Presslin spoke to Conflict Resolution Expert and Director at RiskRecon, Dr Kingsley Makhubela

Zeina Azzam, a Palestinian American who is poet laureate of Alexandria, writes longingly about her ancestral home in Palestine while celebrating her American identity, often peppering her English poetry with Arabic. Azzam, 68, came to the U.S. at the age of 10 after living in Homs, Syria and Beirut. Her parents fled their home in Haifa in 1948 when Zionist paramilitary forces drove more than 750,000 Palestinians from their homes to establish the Israeli state. The Zionists were largely European Jews who themselves suffered through centuries of displacement, antisemitism, and genocide. This mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians is called Al Nakba, or The Catastrophe, and ignited a refugee crisis that's lasted decades. Today, Israeli settlements continue to displace Palestinians in the West Bank. This history has fueled both Israel and Hamas to conduct violent strikes and retaliations. Next month, VCIJ at WHRO will profile an Israeli-American. Azzam has made a colorful and happy home in Alexandria, decorated with cultural emblems from the Arab World, fig trees and jasmine plants. Her poem, “Write My Name,” has gone viral with its vivid description of children surviving in war-torn Gaza. Azzam read the poem before the United Nations Palestinian Rights Committee, and the verse has been translated into multiple languages. Speaking independently, not as the Poet Laureate of Alexandria, she shared stories about her life as a child of refugees in America, Al Nakba, the Israeli-Hamas War and her hope for the future.

John Feffer, author of Splinterlands and current director of Foreign Policy in Focus at the Institute for Policy Studies, summarizes how Donald Trump pursued illiberal internationalism versus liberal internationalism of Joe Biden. Trump was semi-isolationist, cavorted with authoritarian leaders, and wanted to militarize the border between the US and Mexico. Biden's emphasis was to engage the US in the world through involvement in the UN, WTO and other multilateral institutions. The Israeli-Hamas War has resulted in over 30,000 deaths and reduced most of Gaza to rubble. Biden has pushed for a two-state solution, working with Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries. It was alleged that 13 of the 13,000 employees of UNRWA collaborated with Hamas, which has prompted an automatic reaction of the US and some other funders to withdraw their financial support. On another front, Republican Speaker of the House Johnson has refused to bring up a bill funding assistance to Ukraine.
Dr. Augusto Lopez-Claros, Executive Director of the Global Governance Forum, highlights his recent book,, “Global Governance and the Emergence of Global Institutions for the 21st Century.” Global institutions, such as the United Nations, confront the world's major problems, such as climate change, Israeli-Hamas War, Russian invasion of Ukraine, attacks on democracies, and nuclear proliferation. The United Nations has been the epicenter of confronting on these problems. Unfortunately, many national goals are not in conformance with international goals. Also, there is an unraveling of the nuclear arms treaties over the last 30-years. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for the “Summit of the Future Conference” in September to deal with many of these problems. To be more successful, the UN must begin to reform the institution, especially the Security Council, as well as to discuss overhauling the UN Charter. The main challenges are to protect democracy in the UN and worldwide and have a more carbon-free lifestyle.

That will mean more persecution for Christians and those of other minority religions. His enthusiastic support for the false god “Lord Ram” and a new Hindu temple in northern India's Ayodhya is an attempt to create what Modi has called “The New India.” Hindus for Human Rights is protesting, calling this an attempt to “weaponize Hinduism in the name of the BJP's repressive nationalist ideology, ahead of national elections in May.” Brazil floods kill 32 Torrential rains in Brazil led to severe flooding last week, resulting in the deaths of at least 32 persons and the displacement of 5,000 others, according to The Brazilian Report. Court: 18 to 20-year-olds can carry guns The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the rights of 18 to 20-year-olds to carry arms. The court ruled that a Pennsylvania law, which prohibits the right of these young adults from carrying firearms in public during a state of emergency, was unconstitutional. U.S. Circuit Judge Kent Jordan wrote, “It is undisputed that 18 to 20-year-olds are among ‘the people' for other constitutional rights such as the right to vote, freedom of speech, peaceable assembly, government petitions, and the right against unreasonable government searches and seizures.” March for Life in D.C. and across America Pro-lifers held their March for Life events around the country over the weekend, connected to the January 22, 1973 date of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision which effectively legalized abortion. As The Worldview reported yesterday, thousands braved snowy weather in Washington DC, to march and attend a rally with speakers including NFL player Benjamin Watson and House Speaker Mike Johnson – both of whom we quoted. Other speakers included Republican Congressman Chris Smith of New Jersey, Focus on the Family President Jim Daly, and Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship. Abortion rate up despite overturn of Roe Despite the reversal of Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, the number of abortions appears to still be on the increase in America. The Guttmacher Institute reports that in the first 10 months of 2023 there were an estimated 878,000 abortions in the formal US health care system. That's a rate 12% higher than 2020's numbers. And that doesn't include the number of abortions produced by the Day After Pill, the IUD, and the unrecorded Abortion Kill Pill by Mail program. Hear the Word of the Lord, for America, from Isaiah 1:15-17. God said, “When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. But the former World Wrestling Entertainment star is now making headlines for “playing real-life superheroes” alongside one of his friends. A week ago Sunday night, Hogan was in Tampa, Florida when he witnessed a horrific crash and jumped into action. The accident reportedly involved a 17-year-old girl, whom Hogan rescued. After news of the incident broke, the wrestling icon's wife, Sky Daily Hogan, shared details of the event on her Facebook page. She said, “Last night, after we left dinner in Tampa, we saw a car flip in front of us! I truly admire my husband, @hulkhogan, and our good buddy, @jakerask, for springing into action, puncturing the girl's airbag, and getting her quickly out of the car.” According to Hogan, the victim was “unscathed,” though rattled. In the end, she called the entire ordeal “an absolute miracle.” The wrestler also confirmed the story on his Twitter feed, explaining how he was able to pop the airbag without a knife. He wrote, “The crazy part about the teenager that flipped her car was that, without a knife to puncture the airbags to get her out, an Indian Rocks Christian ballpoint pen came in really handy. Thank you, God, all is well.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Tuesday, January 23rd in the year of our Lord 2024. As the Israel-Hamas war enters its second month, the role of intelligence has figured prominently. How did Israel fail to grasp Hamas's intentions and capabilities and to anticipate the October 7 attack? Was this a failure of imagination or were there structural and bureaucratic impediments that prevented Israel's intelligence community from identifying the dots and connecting them? Are domestic politics overriding sound intelligence analysis to shape the Israeli government's campaign against Hamas, its approach toward Gazan civilians, its efforts to free hostages, and its thinking on post-conflict Gaza and the West Bank?Efraim Halevy, former director of the Mossad, and Ami Ayalon, former director of Shin Bet, engage in conversation with Aaron David Miller on these and other subjects.

The Israel-Hamas war has pushed the Palestinian issue to center stage both in the region and internationally. Have Hamas's October 7 attack, Israel's blockade and airstrikes, and the ensuing humanitarian catastrophe altered Gazans' views on Hamas? What did Hamas hope to gain from the attack? Has the Palestinian Authority been weakened further by the escalating violence in the areas under its control, and would its influence be strengthened or weakened if Israel were to succeed in destroying Hamas's military capabilities? Are there any circumstances in which the Palestinian Authority might return to Gaza?Aaron David Miller sits down with pollster and analyst Khalil Shikaki, director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, in conversation on these and other issues.
One month into the Israeli-Hamas war U.N. Security Council remains divided on the language to be used in a draft resolution that would call for humanitarian relief for the besieged enclave of Gaza. This, as the Secretary General warned that Gaza was becoming a graveyard for children and that the unfolding catastrophe made the need for a humanitarian ceasefire more urgent with every passing hour. The 15-member Council, mandated with the maintenance of international peace and security, met yesterday for more than two hours behind closed-doors but gaps on language remain despite four failed resolutions that has seen the Council have zero say or impact on the war's current trajectory. It's Monday, October 30th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Israel's attack on Gaza commences Israel has deployed ground troops and tanks in Gaza after bombarding 150 “underground targets” said to harbor Hamas Muslim terrorists across the north of the region. More vehicles and thousands of troops are gathering in Israeli border towns, reports The Daily Mail. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said: “The operation in Gaza is to continue until there is a new order.” Israel is beginning to allow humanitarian aid to access southern Gaza while bombarding the north, amid claims it had killed two 'spearhead' Hamas commanders, including an architect of the October 7th attacks that killed 1,400 Israelis. Hind al-Khudary, a journalist in central Gaza and one of a few people with cell phone service, said, “The bombs were everywhere, the building was shaking.” Turkey threatens war with Israel On Saturday, Turkish president Recep Erdoğan threatened war with Israel in a speech at a pro-Palestine rally, reports The Express. And when he said that it could "come at any night unexpectedly" his comment was met with ecstatic reception from hundreds of thousands of attendees. The crowd responded with the chant: “Turkish military to Gaza.” Listen. (audio of Erdoğan and crowd's chant) Erdoğan told attendees that Israel was responsible for war crimes, and framed Hamas, the Muslim terrorist group, as "freedom fighters.” Mike Pence drops out of presidential race In an appearance on Saturday at the Republican Jewish Coalition's annual gathering in Las Vegas, former Vice President Mike Pence dropped a bombshell, reports the Associated Press. PENCE: “Last June, I announced my intention to seek the Republican nomination for president of the United States because I believe this country is in a lot of trouble. I was raised to believe that to whom much is given, much will be required. And with everything our country is facing, I just couldn't sit this one out. “But the Bible tells us that there's a time for every purpose under Heaven. And traveling across the country over the past six months, I came here to say it's become clear to me, this is not my time. So, after much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today. (crowd groans) “Now, I'm leaving this campaign, but let me promise you: I will never leave the fight for conservative values and I will never stop fighting to elect principled, Republican leaders to every office in the land. So help me God!” (applause and cheering) Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." Pence had struggled to raise money and gain traction in the polls. PENCE: “And finally, we thank God for His amazing grace. It gave us the courage to step forward so many years ago, and the wisdom to step aside. My fellow Republicans, thank you for your kindness, your support, and your prayers over these many years. (applause) As we go home to Indiana, let me assure you that we leave here with optimism and faith. “We don't know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future. And with faith in Him, and boundless confidence in all of you, we know the best days for America, and our most cherished ally, Israel, are yet to come. Thank you. God bless you.” Maine shooter committed suicide Almost 48 hours after a mass shooting broke Lewiston, Maine, forcing it into lockdown, the trail took police to a recycling center in Lisbon, reports the New York Post. Robert Card, the 40-year-old Army reservist, who killed 18 people at a bowling alley and a bar, was found dead of a self-inflicted wound in an empty, locked trailer. On Friday night, at 10:45pm, three hours after his body was discovered, Maine Democrat Governor Janet Mills made the announcement. MILLS: “I stand here tonight to simply report that the Maine State Police have located the body of Robert Card in Lisbon. He is dead. I've called President Biden to inform him about this news. I've informed Senator [Angus] King, Senator [Susan] Collins. This discovery is entirely thanks to the hundreds of local, county, state, and federal law enforcement members from all over, people who searched tirelessly to arrive at this moment.” Card had worked at the business until late last spring, when he left voluntarily. The business' main property had been checked and cleared twice by local police, but officers did not learn until later in the search that there was an overflow parking lot across the street. As for why Card chose his targets, Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck said it was likely due to paranoia, that “people were talking about him and there may even have been some voices at play,” reports Spectrum Local News. Last summer, Card underwent a mental health evaluation after he began acting erratically during Army training. A bulletin sent to police across the country shortly after the attack said Card had been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks after “hearing voices and threats to shoot up” a military base. The Lewiston shootings were the 36th mass killing in the United States this year. Jewish college students trapped in NY library by pro-Palestinian protestors And finally, the Israeli-Hamas War is spilling over into America. On Thursday, a group of Jewish students took shelter in a library at Cooper Union in New York City as a group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators loudly chanted “free Palestine” outside, reports CBS New York. The school officials closed the library's doors for 20 minutes at 4:00pm to protect the Jewish students. Taylor Lent, a Cooper Union Jewish sophomore, said this. LENT: “The librarians ran over to us and they were, like, ‘We tried to warn you, but we just got notice that they're coming down.'” Another concerned female Jewish student spoke to CBS New York. STUDENT: “It was tense. People were nervous. They were specifically acting very aggressive in those spaces where outwardly Jewish students were sitting.” And a Jewish male student, who was wearing a yarmulke, expressed his concern. MALE STUDENT: “I genuinely don't know what would've happened if the doors were left open.” The pro-Palestinian demonstrators — many of whom were carrying Palestinian flags and signs which said “Zionism Hands Off Our Universities” were initially headed to the office of the Cooper Union President, reports the New York Post. The opening salvo of this conflict are discussed in this episode of Law With Mr. Lafayette.
This is the most important conversation I've ever had on the Habits & Hustle podcast as we dive into the devastation of the Israeli - Hamas War and the history of Israel. I felt compelled to release this episode as social media is providing content without context – which is very, very dangerous. Plus, there are a lot of people speaking who know nothing. I hope this episode provides you with a greater education, a new perspective for what is happening in the world right now. In this episode, I chat with Nathaniel Buzolic aka Nate Buzz who has 3+ Million followers on Instagram and an Australian actor who most know from The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars. Nate grew up in an Islamic community, has been to Israel 25+ times, and is one of the most educated people I know in the history between Israel and Palestine. What we discuss: (0:03:00) - Nate's Background on Understanding Arab and Jewish Culture (0:13:48) - Understanding Cultural Differences (0:24:04) - Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict (0:33:50) - Analyzing Conversations Surrounding Israel's Ongoing Conflict (0:40:10) - Understanding Support for Malicious Organizations (0:51:21) - Christian Actor's View of Hollywood (0:59:49) - The Escalating Global Presence of Evil (1:07:56) - Insights on Hostages and Controversial Figures (1:15:03) - The Manipulation of Public Opinion (1:27:05) - Addressing Anti-Semitism and Shifting the Conversation (1:39:00) - Passion, Purpose, and Representation Find more from Jen: Website: https://www.jennifercohen.com/ Instagram: @therealjencohen Books: https://www.jennifercohen.com/books Speaking: https://www.jennifercohen.com/speaking-engagement Learn more from Nathaniel Buzolic: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/natebuzz Twitter: https://twitter.com/natebuzz IMBd: https://www.google.com/search?q=Nathaniel+Buzolic&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS1004US1004&oq=Nathaniel+Buzolic&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i512j46i512j0i512l3j69i61.340j0j9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Learn more about your ad choices. US INVOLVEMENT IN THE CONFLICT DEEPENS AS ATTACKS CONTINUE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East Front: After much delay, the Israeli invasion of Gaza appears to be on the horizon. Attacks are beginning to involve US military presence throughout the region, with rocket and drone attacks being reported at the Al-Asad Airbase in Iraq. Missiles fired by Houthi rebels in Yemen were also intercepted by the USS Carney (DDG 64), currently underway in the Red Sea.Europe: Multiple terror attacks/incidents have been occurring constantly since the beginning of the Israeli-HAMAS War. Stabbing incidents appear to be the most common attack vector, continuing the trend from the past few years.-HomeFront-USA: Pro-Palestine demonstrations and riots continue in most major US cities. Hundreds of rioters were arrested at the US Capitol following a rally in support of Palestine. The DoS has issued a global travel warning, urging Americans on the entire planet to use Caution and be alert for attacks.-Analyst Comments-The Israeli invasion of Gaza is behind schedule by American standards…if that operation were to be a quick and limited campaign. LSCOs take time, even if the combat zone is only 140 sq mi. The preparation time needed by Israeli forces strongly indicates Israel does not believe this will be a quick war, and that the IDF was not prepared for this operation or a total mobilization. The latter idea is supported by Israeli politicians who have been openly stating that this will not be a quick operation. Other rhetoric from Israeli sources indicates that an annexation of Gaza is guaranteed, but how much of Gaza is to be taken by Israel is not yet determined. External actors (and international politics) will probably be the deciding factor. On the diplomatic front, developing reports that the US has given “the green light” to an Israeli invasion of Gaza are extremely alarming. If these reports are true, and taking all factors into account, the US has done nothing to ease tensions in the region, and have openly been advocating for expanding this conflict. In Congress, various politicians continue to openly call for war with Iran, and other nations. This alone makes the proposals and efforts by Russia and China look reasonable by comparison. The irony of these two nations being the voices of peace in the UN is palpable, and will paint the US into a diplomatic corner as US foreign policy remains stagnant.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst: S2AEND REPORTNNNN
On October 7th, 2023, the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur war, Hamas launched a deadly attack on southern Israel. The attack was not a military engagement--it was a terrorist attack on civilian targets. That attack led Israel to declare war on Hamas. In this episode, Derek and Lindsay discuss some of the major aspects of the conflict from a Christ-Centered perspective.

Since October 7, the conflict between Israel and Hamas has escalated to its highest level in recent years. The brutality of the Hamas attacks, the hostage-taking, and Israel's response to date, including devastating air strikes in Gaza and the blockade—have intensified the conflict. Will Israel launch a major ground campaign against Hamas? What is the fate of the hostages? Is there a chance that the conflict could spread to the West Bank and Jerusalem or trigger a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah on the Israel-Lebanon border? What is Iran's involvement, and how is the Biden administration dealing with the crisis? Aaron David Miller sits down with former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak to discuss these and other issues.
A strike in Gaza hit a hospital Tuesday, killing hundreds. Palestinians and others say it was an Israeli bombing while the Israel Defense Forces say it was an errant missile fired by the militant group Islamic Jihad. On Saturday October the 7th the world awoke to the most horrific, chaotic, and game changing Arab-Israeli war in 50 years. But despite how tragic the news was, it wasn't at all surprising. Internal divisions and partisan dysfunction inside previously functioning democracies (like Israel) have left previously secure and united societies, divided and open to their enemies. This has been an open invitation to those who wish to actively disorder global affairs. In this bonus episode, Jason Pack and David Patrikarakos discuss how, in our era of disorder, conflicts in one part of the world create immediate disordering reactions elsewhere. They'll also talk about David's time in Gaza, Jason's conversations with anti-Semitic cab drivers in Lebanon and the West Bank, and how the internet radicalizes reporting on this conflict. Jason and David disagree agreeably about whether Hamas has already won this war. Finally, they'll try to suggest ways out of this conflict, as they try to Order the Disorder.
